2nd place which is an improvement on last season but pretty disappointed we couldn't grab the title.

Another 2-0 loss to Bayern unfortunately. It would have been great to end my Borussia Dortmund career with another trophy but it just wasn't to be. We did have both Bacca and Kivrak were out injured which didn't help.

Season 4 - (B)orussia Dortmund

3a835cd273d9709d9d8070848d5e0d2f.png

A pretty disappointing season really. We won the Super Cup and the European Super Cup but it was gutting to not win the Bundesliga or even the German Cup. It wasn't great to go out the Champions League quite early but I suppose that's what you get for not topping your group.

Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2

Nani was the standout this season, he was our best player and top scorer from the right wing - 21 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for him. Reus was good when fit but he only started 26 games due to various injuries. Bacca was good again but like Reus he missed a fair bit of action due to injuries - his record of 17 goals in 28 starts was still pretty decent though.

GK - Kivrak had another okay season. He got injured for the Cup Final which saw Weidenfeller play what I think was his only game for me.

DR - Grobkreutz was first choice again. Piszcek barely featured at all and kept making noises to leave.

DL - Gibbs was first choice all season and did well enough. Schmelzer played now and then but didn't get too much of a look in.

DC - Hummels and Subotic were first choice again and were largely solid. Garay was rotated until he left in January, Chedjou got a few starts but not as many as he would've liked.

DM - Bender was good again. Sergio Alvarez wasn't called upon all that often and to be honest he wasn't that great when he was.

AMR - Nani was fantastic as already stated. Mertens had another good season as back-up AMR/AML with 14 assists and 7 goals from 27 starts and numerous sub appearances.

AML - Reus was great when fit which wasn't all that often. Mertens started most of his games here when Reus was out. Tello started the odd game and had a host of sub appearances on the left and was okay - nothing special though.

CAM - Firminho was okay. I'm not sure he was much of a step up on Mkhtaryan last season though. Odegaard was okay as back-up to him, he wasn't great though and and still has a long way to go before he should be a regular for a big team. I hope this loan spell has helped him in his career though - maybe I will see him again at club or country some day.

ST - Bacca was good when fit as said. Icardi was a decent back-up with 12 goals from 20 starts and numerous sub appearances. Remy didn't feature much but he did well to get 4 goals in the 3 starts and 11 sub appearances he did get.

Dinamo Moscow's former manager appears to have been harshly sacked much like Klopp was at Dortmund. I'd been keeping an eye on them all season as they are the biggest 'D' club, whilst the manager was "insecure" for a while he was top of the table in March and had also gone on a great run in the Russian Cup so I assumed he'd be fine like he was last season. However he ended up blowing the league and finishing 3rd and then followed this up with a loss on penalties in the Russian Cup final to CSKA. I'm not sure if CSKA/Dinamo are rivals but perhaps this was what took it over the edge as just days after i'd lost in the German Cup final I received a message that Dinamo Moscow had sacked their manager. I obviously jumped at the chance and managed to talk them into getting the job.

They've made Europa League and the European football has made sure by budget is around £30M. There's a few players that seem to want to leave as well which could free up more funds. I know that Russia have some rule where you have to field at least 4 Russian guys and there really does not seem to be any significant depth in decent Russian players at the club so i'll have to get in quite a few even if they're pretty average.

I've been rejecting a lot of friendlies for Cameroon mainly because i'm lazy and couldn't be bothered to play in friendlies throughout the season. But England offered me one at Wembley in June which I liked the sound of. I also thought it would be a nice way of having a look at the England team to see if I could have them as my "E" side. Roberto Martinez lead them to winning the World Cup over the summer though so I don't think that job is going to be available for some reason!

A decent game though and we were unlucky to come out of it with a loss. It was my ex-players Sturridge and Welbeck who scored the goals that resulted in us losing though - so quite bittersweet for me.

Quick look at my first strength side. Sahin, Sneijder, Valbuena, Bendtner, Chris Samba on the bench too. Oh and a load of Russian guys of course.

An excellent start to the season with Salomon Rondon and Javier Hernandez ripping the league apart so far.

We currently sit in 2nd place on goal difference. Rubin and Zenit have also won all 4 of their opening games.

Oh yeah and a quick heads up on the Cameroon situation. We're hosting the 2019 African Nations so that's why you wont see any fixtures for a while :D

Not the best month in the league. We smashed two teams but dropped points away to Kuban and then lost 1-0 to CSKA Moscow thanks to a last minute Gael Clichy winner. I mean ffs :D

A very frustrating game against a lower league side. It took us ages to score and they equalised soon after. It looked like it was going to extra-time until Salomon Rondon scored a sensational solo goal from one of their corners.

0cc8db76ac10b3bb5aacf3916afeaf00.png

Two more draws in the Europa League in another couple of frustrating fixtures.

cfd3102ec8595f24949fbe440546a163.png

We need to at least beat H.Tel-Aviv and Viktoria Plzen in our next fixtures with them as we should've beaten them in the ones we've already played.

00fa6974ad7e9e3cf222a18608815a32.png

A good month in the league though saw us sweep aside Yenisey and Baltika without any real problems. We then beat 3rd place Rubin 2-0 thanks to a Rondon brace.

c7bc63da65dda81b5bd4db5245b8b85a.png

Zenit have now won 11 out of 11 ffs. Our next game is away to Zenit though and we could really do with beating them. If we lose dare I say it our title challenge could be over in very early November :D

I also had two friendlies with Cameroon this month. I got offered a friendly with Germany earlier in the year - I originally didn't want to face them again but with a closer inspection I noticed this was not the Germany side that battered us in the Confederations Cup. They'd since flopped at the 2018 World Cup, failing to get out of a group containing Chile, Jamaica and Switzerland, which resulted in the sacking of Jurgen Klopp. I wasn't confident of beating them still but we gave them a good game and I was pleased to come out of it with a 1-1 draw. Of course it was my ex-player Marco Reus who scored their goal.

We also drew 1-1 with Australia which was really quite disappointing as we were much the better side in the match. I have friendlies against the U.S.A. and my current club nation Russia scheduled before our difficult home African Nations campaign will begin in January. It's quite convenient that the Russia winter break happens at the same time so I don't have to worry about going from club games to African Nations games in mid-week or something :D I've got no idea how something like that would work logistically if someone was managing an African national side and a European club side in real life.

December

Another loss at Anfield for me as I once again fail to top a European group with Liverpool in it as well.

523b282048af806aca95ff8de257adb2.png

We've had a really shocking group stage tbf and we're extremely lucky to even progress to the knockout stages. We've drawn Cagliari in the next round which seems like a winnable game but Viktoria Plzen and H.Tel-Aviv seemed like winnable games :D Hopefully we can take our league form into the Knockout Stages. One thing that is interesting is that the Russian League doesn't start again before those games - so whilst we wont have any weekend games getting in the way, we also wont have played a competitive match for like 2/3 months. So i'm not sure. Hopefully should be alright!

African Cup of Nations

We managed to navigate our way through the tricky group we were drawn. A 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast was a great result considering we were 2-0 down at half-time. We also came from behind to beat Egypt 3-1 which was our finest hour in the group stage. The win against Egypt put it in our own hands and meant as long as we avoided defeat against South Africa we would qualify at their expense. It was a bit ropey near the end of the match but we held on to make it to the knockout stages.

ad248cdfef2ea7f42ee961aa9b7c7006.png

We came from behind against Algeria to book our place in the semi final. Senegal weren't all that much trouble at all really and that was probably the easiest game of the tournament for us. The Ghana game was very tense with our entire team struggling for fitness despite rotation being in place - an injury to captain Alex Song really didn't help things either. We took it to penalties and won 5-4. It was a very nervy shoot-out because with the final penalty of the first 10 - Ghana had the chance to win it but thankfully missed it. We then scored our first sudden death penalty and they missed theirs to ensure we won the African Nations on home soil.

I thought post-African Nations was a good time to resign from my post as Cameroon manager. It's 3 more years until the next World Cup and whilst I would have liked to have taken Cameroon into a World Cup to see how far we could have got - I also would have had to have play numerous qualifying matches for both the World Cup and the next African Nations whilst also managing full-time at whatever club i'm at.

A bit of international management this early in my career has been nice and it was great to win a tournament but i'm pleased to be able to have a break and just have my club to worry about for the near future.

March

In our 3rd away game of the tournament we managed to dispose of Kuban quite comfortably with it being 4-1 in the end, even Bendtner scored! We're away yet again in the semi final as we face Spartak Moscow. Volga NN somehow knocked out Zenit in the last round and we're actually ahead of all of the sides remaining in the competition so I definitely feel like we could win this one.

235ba1a2839960558edfac95210ed1da.png

Maritimo proved a more difficult set of matches than I expected but we still won 3-1 on aggregate to progress to the Quarter Final. We'll play Everton who were a team i've been looking at in terms of whether they'll sack their manager this summer. If they're in the Quarter Final or potentially Semi Final of the Europa League it doesn't seem that likely despite their manager being insecure earlier in the season.

dc9a3a21719fa20feb609896bb0b8a01.png

A decent month in the league which saw Rondon pick up two hat-tricks. It's a bit annoying to drop points to Krasnodar as we do really need to finish 2nd to get Champions League football for next season but we do have a game in hand with Lokomotiv Moscow who sit above us at the moment.

A disappointing end to our Europa League campaign. We were really disappointing away to Everton, didn't even pick up an away goal which I knew would cost us. We got the 3 goals we needed to progress thanks to Rondon but then Everton got one back in the 91st minute to knock us out /o\

A pretty good month in the league as drop points just once. Zenit actually dropped points twice, but they're still unbeaten. It would be nice to beat them in our home game against them to prevent them from doing an unbeaten season.

It seemed only fitting that it was Javier Hernandez and Salomon Rondon who secured our only silverware of the season in a 3-2 win in the final.

Not the most inspiring end to the season but we did enough to secure Champions League football for the club next season.

Season 5 - (D)inamo Moscow

A relatively successful season. I secured the Champions League football that the club wanted and whilst I would have liked to have challenged for the title, Zenit were insanely good this year and even if we hadn't dropped points as often as we did we still wouldn't have got that near them. I was disappointed to go out in the Europa League especially in the manner we did as I felt I could've potentially won it again. We were awful in the Group Stage though. I at least managed to win the Russian Cup which I was pleased with.

Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2

Rondon was insane. 48 goals and 12 assists from 46 games - I've never had a player on FM dominate a league like he has this season. Kokorin, Javier Hernandez and Mangala all also had fantastic seasons.

GK - Casilla was a great purchase for the £3M or so I paid for him. A few poor moments but overall a great season.

DR - Karavaev was pretty good and was a bargain free transfer signing.

DL - Adilovic was good when fit. Bugaev was decent as back-up.

DC - Mangala was great with Bryzgalov being decent alongside him. Morales came in and did okay in the games he featured in.

DM - Denisov and Modric were an okay partnership. Ayoub also featured here sometimes as well. I wasn't thaaat pleased with my options at DM tbf but I think the guys I used there did okay considering their ability and Modric not being a natural DM.

MC - Dzagoev had a good year and was a steal for less than £1M especially considering the Russian regulations for domestic lineups.

CAM - Kokorin was very good. Valbuena was pretty decent when he was required and Sneijder also featured here sometimes, he was okay.

ST - Rondon and Hernandez were an insanely good partnership and ripped the Russian league apart. Bendtner wasn't called upon too often, he wasn't great but I was desperate for a 4th choice when I signed him on loan and he did get one goal and two assists tbf.

Hang about I've just remembered something. The England job is unlikely to be available in an odd-numbered year (Confederations cup aside but you haven't told us what's been going on internationally). There's nothing in the rules about withdrawing or changing a bet (just making a single one) so I'm seriously considering my options, bearing in mind that the worst case scenario is if it is England after all.

Edit: Oh sod it, since I'm not entirely sure which of Everton or Espanyol to go for as an alternative, I'm sticking with England and taking the probable hit. Final Answer.

I was a bit surprised to see Malky Mackay sacked since he'd knocked us out in the Europa League Quarter Final. Everton actually went onto the final but lost to Lyon. It seems mad that they were one game away from European success and Champions League football and still got rid of him, but it seems 12th in the league wasn't good enough for them. I actually had to delay my move by a week to make sure i'd spend 365 days at Dinamo Moscow :D

I wasn't in a massive rush to leave Dinamo and would've quite happily stayed on another season but when I saw the Everton job available I felt I might as well go for it and if I get it, I get it. I've not got a massive transfer budget but upon arriving at the club i've noticed that Lukaku and Marco van Ginkel are both desperate to leave for Champions League football and and I could probably make £50/60M in combined fees from selling them so that may well be a course of action I take.

I've also noticed that Mackay sold John Stones to Chelsea last season for just £10M! I'm sure I usually see him go for £20/25M in most saves so a bit disappointing that he couldn't get that much for him. I'm not sure what my hopes or expectations for the season are. The board seem to want Europa League football secured which I think can be done especially since the squad I inherited reached the Europa League final last year. It would be nice to have a cup run or two as well. It should be interesting as this is my first time managing a club that can't feasibly win the league in my first season in charge.

A massive summer at Everton saw us rake in £97M in transfer revenue as a result of a lot of sales - most of the money came from selling Lukaku, van Ginkel (further strengthening Zenit ffs :D), Poulsen and Tibbling.

I got in a lot of talent this summer. 3 Everton icons returned to the club with Fellaini coming in for £3.5M after a few disappointing years at Villarreal, Ross Barkley joins after 4 years of failing to get into Chelsea's side and also joining from Chelsea was Wayne Rooney who has also been rotting away at Chelsea, he made just 3 appearances all season last year.

My old pal from Dortmund and Arsenal, Dries Mertens, joins on the cheap after being pushed to the sidelines since I left, I very nearly signed Nani as well but he chose Galatasaray and their CL football instead. Kieran Gibbs, another player that I have managed twice also joined - I needed another left back and he's my go to guy! Jonny Evans comes in at CB with United no longer having need for him, Sergio Canales came in to add depth at CAM with Diego Poyet joining from AC Milan to add depth at DM/CM. Saido Berahino comes in to compete with Rooney as 1st choice striker - I managed to get Berahino quite cheap due to West Brom being relegated last season.

A 36 year old Yaya Toure was released by City over the summer and I jumped at the chance to add his experience to the squad, his wage demands weren't even that bad really. Ander Herrera joins on loan from Utd to add depth at CM with Leo Baptistao also joining on loan to be 3rd choice striker. Matt Lowton comes in also mainly because I was desperate for a RB in-case Coleman gets injured.

And finally the biggest signing of the summer - Andre Schurlle joins for a massive £25M. I'm hoping he can be a real top quality player to drag us up the league and through the cup competitions.

Tactics

My first choice team looks something like this:

There's a lot of depth to the side with the likes of Jagielka, Lowton, Bakary Kone, Leighton Baines, Diego Poyet, James McCarthy, Yaya Toure, Mirallas, Sergio Canales, Alessio Cerci, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Leo Baptistao all also available in-case of injury or rotation.

A good start in the Capital One Cup as we go away to feeder club Bournemouth and win 3-1, with an impressive 30 yard strike from Yaya Toure being the highlight. Wayne Rooney also scored his first goal since re-joining his boyhood side. We have Sheffield Wednesday at home in the next round which should be another relatively easy game.

Not the best of starts in the league but Stoke away is never gonna be an easy game and Man City are a very good side. We held City at bay for most of the game but they scored from a free-kick and a corner late on, set-piece defending may be something I need to work on as from open play we handled them quite well. We at least won on the opening day against Watford, it wasn't an easy match as they equalised twice but an own goal after a powerful Schurlle shot eventually gave us the 3 points.

We absolutely spanked Sheffield Wednesday even with a rotation/back-up 11 playing. Alessio Cerci got a first half hat-trick which could see him getting some game time in the league as a reward, with Wayne Rooney also showing what he is capable of. We face recently relegated Sunderland in the next round.

A decent 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane especially when you considering Spurs won the league last season () but I learned from the City game and we defended a lot deeper in this one and playing with 2 DM's helped us. We almost won it thanks to Berahino's goal but Lamela scored a late equaliser from a free-kick. A brace from Andre Schurle gave us a win over Ipswich and a late Wayne Rooney strike gave us 3 points away to Reading. It's still early in the season but we're in 9th place and seem to be on an upward climb.
