Early goals set us on way to comfortable win, we face Torquay in 4th round. More Points Dropped! A late goal denies us the 3pts. We Draw at Old Trafford! It wasn't looking good but we managed to fight back. Giant Killers! Disaster, Made a lot of changes thinking we would still win, yep that was a mistake. Maw74 Posted May 3, 2021 Author Share Posted May 3, 2021 (edited) Season 65 - 2079/2080 Luton Beat Leaders Man Utd! The hatters are having a good spell in their relegation fight. We Suffer Heavy First Leg Defeat! The ref was bent, we suffered after the penalty and his decision to send Pedrinho off for having an opinion. We still should have defended better and we also should have grabbed an away goal or two. What a result, we needed an early goal and we got it, when the 2nd went in I knew we had a big chance. We could have been on level terms before half-time as we were creating enough chances. We suffered the injury blow just before the break, Pérez is a good sub anyway, then we got the boost with them going down to 10 men, Pérez was soon on the scoresheet as he got us within one. Somehow PSV managed to hold out for over 30 minutes, I was frustrated as it looked like we were going to fall just short as the chances came and went with saves, blocks and misses a plenty. Then just as I had given up hope and time ticking out a cross went into the PSV area and there was another of our subs, Marcelinho to head home from close range, we had done it. Another 30 minutes of action was earned/needed and Nick Moore who was in for the suspendedPedrinho fired in from close range, even though we had totally dominated and PSV had very few sights of our goal, I was still worried as it would/could only take one and they have away goal. Thankfully we held firm, very tense in the 2nd period of extra-time but we had completed a great comeback. Results & League Table! He held that post until 2075, when he took a step back from football duties, he moved into the board room as he became a director at the club, and now in 2080 he is chairman. Pérez Brace Eases Us Into Last Four! They cut our lead to just 3-2, any chance of them mounting a serious comeback were brushed away by Pérez.Our Spanish striker netting an early 2nd half brace to end any chance of them overturning the tie. Aggregate: Stopsley Utd 5 Espanyol 2 We face Gladbach in the Semi-Finals. Top Of The Table Clash! What a win! We put five past the leaders, I knew early on this battle was going to run all season. I should know this save by now and we have had many title races that run the full distance. I wasn't expecting us to blow them away like this though, hopefully this puts a massive dent in their confidence, they suffered a big blow by going out of the Champions League to Benfica. They are still in the FA Cup so we both have cup distractions but I can't see them posing a problem for either of us in terms of focus, the first test for us is to win the game in hand. Gladbach Pay Penalty! Two early penalties put this tie firmly in our control, four penalties overall and Gladbach paid for those. All English Final! This meant we finished with back to back games with Chelsea, we beat them 2-0 in league. I was gutted about that penalty award on 117mins, we held our nerve to win the shoot-out. Now that the club has a new chairman in Francisco Dreer I think it is time to make a few changes to the staff at the club, in FMC the staff have rolling contracts. That is good and bad, good that you don't have to worry about contract running down, bad because that means if you do want to make a change they always have a year to run (always). So that means you have to pay them a lot of compensation as well as any club you take staff from. Staff when Dreer become chairman...... New staff with four new members..... So we now have a big Argentine influence at the club, Didac Riera stays as he is on a low wage and it would make little sense changing him considering his rating anyway. Lucas Stahmer also stays as you will see shortly. It's a tough transfer market right now, it's hard to find players within our budget to really add strength to our side.The players that would make us stronger right now are way above our current total budget, Watson & Rodwell are only back-up and those deals took our budget, Whitlow makes a return to our club, it was a cheap deal so no harm or risk to bring him back, he will get some cup action and some time from the bench. I really don't know how we managed to not win this, we created so many chances, needed a late goal to take it to extra-time, we totally dominated the extra 30 minutes but somehow Villa held out. We Focus On Cups! So with the league title out of sight, the cups are now our hope of lifting a trophy. In previous rounds we beat Wigan (a) 1-0 and Huddersfield (h) 4-0. Tough Tie With Benfica! We come through group with ease. Benfica were champions in 2080, they hit us with 3 goals in 4 minutes. We recovered from that shocking spell, got score to 2-3, then conceded a 4th just minutes later. Sánchez scored instantly to give us a big chance in the 2nd leg though. So from 0-3 after 25 minutes of the first leg, we turned things around in a big way. Stopsley Utd 9 Benfica 5 We face Sunderland! Newcastle Tie Goes To A Replay! We should have gone through with a 3-1 lead on 60 minutes. We make no mistake in replay as we put past Newcastle. Man Utd have also been taken to a replay, we will play whovever comes through (Man Utd). Man Utd Are Cruising! Technically we can still catch them but that isn't going to happen. They just lost to West Ham but we lost to Brentford, so we can't even take advantage when they do slip up, we need them to lose every game, we have to win every game. Not a chance of either of those happening, I expect Man Utd to be confirmed champions. Our battle is with Man City, I want 2nd place, I know it doesn't matter a massive amount really but just want to finish as high as possible, I would also like to use the remaining league games to give fringe and young players some first team action, focus is very much on the cups. In this game I thought Head to Head record is broken once you have played a team 100 times. It is in terms of keeping a complete record, anyway I haven't really been taking much notice of them anymore, until now, was a bit confusing at first, as after that game the only change was with goals, So I am guessing it updates it to the last 100 games played against each other. Slender First Leg Advantage! We should have had a better/bigger advantage but obviously the red card caused a problem. I know this is an old game but 70 seasons into this save and don't remember seeing this sort of thing before. My players normally just go out on loan without issue, he went anyway. An opening day defeat as we lose to both Manchester sides in the space of a week. Another defeat came soon after as we lost to Colchester away, our form then picked up as we put a good run together, I made a lot of changes for cup game, we still should have performed better, the fringe players didn't do themselves any favours. It has been very frustrating though because Man Utd have always had games in hand, at one point it was five games, so they have always been a big threat. We simply have to keep winning because they are coming for us, drawing games is something we couldn't afford to do so it was tough, the Norwich draw was so annoying, we just thumped them in the FA Cup but drew a blank in the league. Worse followed though, the Chesterfield result was a shocker, just pathetic. Now Man Utd are just nine points behind with three games in hand. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Easy Progress In Champions League! We qualified after 4 wins from 4, so I was able to make big changes and use fringe players for our final 2 games. So Rhys Rodon got some game time........... and a pro-contract.
