Alf Ramsey

Have you got all the teams i've pm'd you. Think you inbox must be full now as Ipswich wouldn't go through..

Hi, yes I have thanks. Alf Ramsay is manager of England, so I need another manager! :)

If you can post the teams here, that's great as it is gives everyone a chance to see the players that will be added to the game.

Apart from the obvious Cahill, Kewell and Viduka. I don't know if the final decision has been made yet but, as someone who's seen a bit of Swansea over the years, can I just recommend Willy Gueret over Dorus de Vries for the Swans?

One other thing I noticed on the mega-post up there (nice work btw cel1234, obviously you put some effort in there  ) was a recommendation for Ron Atkinson to be West Brom Manager. I would say that if you're going to do that then (provided he's not playing somewhere) Jack Charlton should replace Atkinson at Sheffield Wednesday.

Jack Hacker Charlton, is playing for leeds, and Ron Atkinson shall remain Sheffield Wednesday Manager. Cheers.

I will research Willy Gueret and they shall both be included.

Gretna will be in the massive update.

Also can you do the same thing for the teams in the following divisions?

German First Division ( Apart from Bayern)

German Second Division

Serie A (Apart from Inter Milan, A.C. Milan and Juventus)

Serie B

LIGA BBVA (Apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona)

Ligue 1

Ligue 2

Scottish First Division

You have been an amazing help so far, and I really appreciate all your work on this, all the names will ensure that I spend much less time on research and much more time developing this massive update and bringing it out sooner rather than later! Cheers.

Some great research done by cel1234.

I'm throwing my personal opinion into the Boro squad, deleting a few mentioned and adding others. There is more than 25 here as I realise a good few of these listed will be better suited to other clubs where they made there names.

Keepers:

Mark Schwarzer GK

Stephen Pears GK

Jim Platt GK

Defenders:

George Hardwick FB

Gary Parkinson RB

Franck Queudrue LB

Emmanuel Pogatetz CB

Christian Ziege LB

Gary Pallister CB

Nigel Pearson CB

Tony Mowbray CB

Willie Maddren CB

Stuart Boam CB

Gareth Southgate CB

Midfielders:

George Boateng DMC

Juninho AMC

Robbie Mustoe DMC

Graeme Souness CM

Emerson CM

Craig Hignett CM/AM/C/L/R

Stewart Downing LM/AML

Stuart Ripley RM/RML

Attackers:

Wilf Mannion AMR/L/C/ST

John Hendrie RW/CF

Brian Clough (Has to be Forest Manager unfortunately!)

John Hickton ST

Mark Viduka ST (Leeds no doubt)

Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink ST (Chelsea?)

Fabrizio Ravanelli ST

George Camsell ST

Bernie Slaven ST

Additional suggestions:

Ugo Ehiogu - CB

Uwe Fuchs - Striker (Only if we are short on forwards if some of the better players are with other clubs)

Gaizka Mendieta - MC/R (however he 100% needs to be in Valencia ahead of Boro)

Nick Barmby - AMC/L/R

Paul Merson - AMC (Should be included, IMO)

Youth players (from players currently in the database):

Lee Cattermole

Adam Johnson

James Morrison

Brad Jones

Ross Turnbull

David Wheater

I am doing the extensive research as we did for the 2014 version and the 2015 version will be out much earlier than the 2014 version was however it wont be out until later in the year. I am waiting for the 3rd Patch and also I don't want to bring it out too early when people are still enjoying the normal version of the game. I have not forgotten about it, i am using the time to do more research and preparation work and when the time is right, this will be out again in 2015. But better than before of course...

Looking forward to this Fenech, gave new life to FM14 last year.

Some great work their cel1234. As a life-long Leeds fan I can't in general argue with your extensive list, just needs some narrowing down to the 25-man limit. I'd be happy to offer an example 25-man squad based on my knowledge Fenech?

A quick one - I'd put Lee Bowyer as a RM/RW; whilst later in his career he did indeed play centrally, for us he was at his best on the right wing.

For reference, the results of a survey on Leeds' all-time best 11 + 5 subs: http://www.ozwhitelufc.net.au/greatest_players/team.html

I would be happy for you Sebbo to give me your version of the 25 man Leeds Squad. This is the time now where people need to start coming forward with the best 25 players of all time for their respective clubs. As always, we can discuss any inclusions or exclusions and the reasons why in due course!

Still playing FM14s version of this, fantastic database, not even contemplating getting FM15 until this is released.

Thanks and the database took a lot of time to make so i really appreciate the great feedback, lets try and make this version even better but at least on the same level!

SQUADS ARE NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN AGAIN AND everything is open to debate until the squads are finalised once more...

RIP Dave Mackay, one of the all-time greats. Nice touch, Fenech.

On a Spurs note, if you're looking for debate, I posted this in the 2014 thread as I didn't notice this one so I'll reprise it here for your input.

It has been addressed before, but I firmly believe Danny Blanchflower should be at Spurs. I appreciate your criteria for deciding which club a player should be at, but you did list "Common sense" as the overriding factor in the decision. Yes, he didn't move to Spurs til he was 28, but he was there for 10 years, captained the most successful (double-winning) team we've ever had, captained the first English team to win a European trophy and is consistently voted amongst the top 5 Spurs players of all-time - indeed The Times ranked him as Spurs' greatest ever player in 2009. He played more than twice as many games for Spurs than he did for Villa, and had immensely more success with us. A Spurs legends side without Blanchflower makes absolutely no sense.

Still, it's your baby and therefore your choice, so keep up the good work!

Hi BuffaloPhil,

Thanks and yes Dave Mackay was a complete Legend so R.I.P Dave Mackay!

In regards to Danny, It's a very tough one because I am very uneasy starting such a great legend at such an advanced age, the absolute guarantee that I give, is that if a play is at a club at a certain age, then he was at THAT club at THAT age, and therefore Danny would be 28 at Spurs. But you make it very hard to refuse on the grounds of common sense and also i have been thinking that perhaps, if he managed to play over 300 games from the age of 28, he must of had 20 for natural fitness, so maybe if i raise the natural fitness of the player to 20, i could justify him starting at 28 years old. He actually stayed at Spurs until he was 38, which further backs up the fact he must of been naturally fit, so perhaps in these cases i can make an exception to the rule on the starting age. Therefore Danny Blanchflower will be at spurs in the 2015 version, but please be aware that someone already in the spurs 25 man squad will be going elsewhere. I will have to analyse which position needs to suffer but e.g. if he is a attacking right winger, ill probably send Chris Waddle over to Newcastle at an earlier age... but we will see, i cant say for sure, because i need to look at the situation closely and make a fair decision for spurs and also ensure that the right player leaves to make way for Danny coming in.

Cheers.

Thanks Fenech. Looking at your squad list from the previous version, and assuming you're insistent on keeping the same number of people in various positions, then I think it would have to be Ron Burgess who misses out. But in my humble opinion I would dispense with Les Ferdinand even though Blanchflower wasn't a striker - Spurs have Greaves, Smith, Gilzean and Woodward as strikers, plus Bale can play there, so I don't feel there's really any need for a further, significantly weaker, striker in the squad.

Another Spurs suggestion would be to include the late, great John White - a wonderfully talented inside-right who was right up there amongst the best of the double-winning team before sadly being killed by lightning aged 27. I'd also include Bill Brown, Stephen Carr, Chris Hughton, Ledley King, Graham Roberts, Ossie Ardiles and Teddy Sheringham who weren't in your original squad.

My 25 man squad would be :

Pat Jennings (GK)

Bill Brown (GK)

Steve Perryman (DR, DC, DM)

Stephen Carr (DR, WBR)

Cyril Knowles (DL, WBL)

Chris Hughton (DL, DR)

Dave Mackay (DC, SW, DL)

Ledley King (DC, DM)

Gary Mabbutt (DC, DM)

Maurice Norman (DC, DM)

Graham Roberts (DC)

Danny Blanchflower (DM, CM, MR)

Luka Modric (MC, DM, ML, AML, AMC)

Glenn Hoddle (MC, AMC)

Paul Gascoigne (AMC, MC, AML, AMR)

Osvaldo Ardiles (MC)

John White (AMR, MR, ML, AML)

Chris Waddle (AMR, MR, ML, AML)

Cliff Jones (AML, MR, ML, AMR)

Gareth Bale (AML, DL, ML, AMR, AMC, ST)

Jimmy Greaves (ST)

Bobby Smith (ST)

Vivian Woodward (ST, AMR, AMC, AML)

Alan Gilzean (ST, AMC, AML)

Teddy Sheringham (ST, AMC)

but obviously it's your project and your decision!

Hi Buffalo,

Right, well when i get to Spurs I'll have a look at it, and thanks for the suggestions.

As always I will give every player who has played for Spurs since 1888 a fair crack of the whip and only best 25 since 1888 will make the squad, bear in mind that I look for a complete balance of playing positions throughout the squad too.

I will come back to you in more detail once I have got to Spurs and give you my feedback on your suggestions and whether or not any of the squad can be changed and we can continue the debate at that point.

Cheers

They really need to work out a way to allow you to not have to create this from scratch every year. Allow some kind of import of last years DB into the new years editor, or at least something so we don't have to wait so long for what I consider the best DB on here.

I won't play the game till i can use this DB.

So any idea of a release date?

For Leeds I mentioned in the FM Scout site, I thought Allan Clarke should have been with Leeds & Robbie Keane dropped. Keane was only at Leeds for a short time and left with the Risdale fire sale. Though Clarke started at Fulham, he is Leeds thru and thru.

Hey Fenech, apologies I've not responded sooner. Despite subscribing to this thread I never received an email telling me of replies. As promised, this is my breakdown of a potential Leeds United Squad:

Leeds United

Manager: Don Revie

Chairman: Perry Woodward

GK:

Gary Sprake GK

Nigel Martyn GK

David Harvey GK

DEF:

Gary Kelly DR

Paul Reaney DR/DL - 3rd most appearances (745)

Paul Madeley DR/DL - Equal 4th most appearances (724)

Lucas Radebe DC

Jack Charlton DC - 2nd most appearanes (762)

Norman Hunter DC - Equal 4th most appearances (724)

Terry Cooper DL

Trevor Cherry DC/DL

MID:

David Batty DM

Billy Bremner DM - Club Captain - All time most appearances (771)

Johnny Giles MC/MR/AMC

Gary McAllister MC/AMC

Gordon Strachan MC

Gary Speed MR/MC/ML/AMC

Peter Lorimer AMR/ST - All time top goalscorer (219)

Eddie Gray ML/AML

Harry Kewell ML/AMC/AML

FWD:

Allan Clarke ST - 3rd top goalscorer (151)

Alan Smith MC/ST

John Charles DC/ST - 2nd top goalscorer (157)

Mark Viduka ST

Tony Yeboah ST

Notable omissions:

Mick Jones (close - too many strikers), Jon Sheridan (close - enough, and arguably better, players in his position), Jack Milburn, Tony Dorigo, Bobby Collins, Lee Chapman, Tony Currie, Lee Bowyer, Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, Albert Johanneson, Rio Ferdinand (obviously would be better placed at Man United), Ian Harte, Jonathan Woodgate, Dominic Matteo, Joe Jordan, Michael Bridges (injury prone, too many strikers, probably wouldn't manke most people's list), Vinnie Jones (obviously better placed at Wimbledon), John Lukic (enough GKs), Mervyn Day (enough GKs), Willis Edwards, Eric Cantona (Not even close really, for so many reasons!).

------------------------------------

That's 25 I believe. There are plenty more I could add, and many I have excluded in favour of lesser names in order to balance out the positions.

In terms of playing position, I have highlighted where they predominantly played for us (and using FM language, i.e. RW = AMR), however many of the above could also do a job in other positions, especially the further you go back in time, where it seems many players had 4 or 5 different positions to their name. It is also important to note that, for example, Billy Bremner could clearly play CM along with the DM I've put above, but I thought this was obvious and does not need highlighting.

I will edit this over time to add more and more detail, but I hope for now this is helpful.

Will there be an option to make 2 leagues made up of only legends database players so that the English, Scottish, Spanish teams can all play in some sort of super league system? Or is that too complicated?

This is what I would like as well but theoretically it should actually be very easy to put together. You just need to merge a legendary player database with a World League database that somebody else has already put together. The key thing is that the player database must only have changes to players and mustn't have any changes to the clubs. I tried this with another legends database but failed because the clubs had been fiddled with.

I'm really keen on this idea because it would make a really tough challenge. Once you win the Champions League with a small club it's difficult to get enthusiastic about a new save.

In any case I think you're doing fantastic work here.

I would love to have this as well. I have planned to do something like this for long time, but never found time/motivation to complete it. On FM15 I was starting on something like this, but problem is I use MAC and the the visual graphics in the editor is hopeless with the rendering. So I hope this will be better for FM 16, and I might give it a go.
