I have just created a tactic for Barcelona... This is the first time I have played as them and I am having trouble getting Messi to score goals... I really like my tactic as and don't really want to change it as it has brought me very early success including a 10-0 win on my managerial debut... I play him upfront in the False 9 role... I've also tried him as a Trequartista but just having no luck...

Any help or advice...

Your set up defies an awful lot of basic principles.

Whilst Barcelona are a strong side, you are woefully exposed at the back.

The CWBs will advance very high, your positioning of Neymar and Pedro is unnecessarily high, and those two won't track back enough.

Very Fluid will lead to additional compactness, but it takes the edge of the Playmaker Roles you are using - it better suits less specialists.

According to the Twelve Step Guide, you have 5 specialists, which as a loose guide is better suited to a More Rigid Fluidity.

You have no central penetration. Everything relies on Alves and Alba in terms of movement.

Control has a highish line, which you are pushing up, so the use of Hassle Opponents may be superfluous.

Playing Narrower will focus passing through the middle, which may reduce the opportunities to get the ball to your only mobile players - the wide CWBs.

Working Ball Out of Defence isn't needed, as the passing structures on Control will see defenders pass short anyway.

Retain Possession shortens your passing length and lowers the tempo. You add to this with Shorter Passing and Much Lower Tempo TIs. Were you aware of that overlap of instructions?

Exploit The Middle will add to the Play Narrower TI in terms of focusing passing through the middle. It may help the relatively static nature of your MCs by asking them to increase their forwards runs, but probably not enough to get them in the box. It will also get Alves and Alba even more offensive. Watch out for counter attacks, you could have two pretty isolated DCs.

Regarding Messi, you place a huge burden on his shoulders. He isn't a physical presence, but he is essentially being asked to do everything here.

Pedro won't really be a goal threat, Neymar's only thinking about that as a secondary job, and the AP (S) players will be too deep.

Messi is having to link play and provide the focal point at the same time. I think your whole system needs to change to focus on Messi as the finisher, rather than Messi as the creator AND finisher.

RTHerringbone - On your advice I had another look at my tactic and the link your provided... I also looked at the thread "How to Play FM14: A Twelve Step Guide"... I agree with your assessment of my tactic... I normally play with English teams and play a fast attacking formation and I think I got caught up in the "Barcelona Tiki-Taka" and tried to fool myself in thinking I'm a tactical genius...

I've decided to think about what I'm actually trying to achieve which is Messi being my focal point of my team... I know you said I placed a heavy burden on his shoulders but I think he can by my creator and finisher... I've gone for a more "traditional FORMATION which is Messi working the F9 role... With the space behind to drop deep he can come and collect the ball from midfield and have enough space and time to think about what he wants to do next... My CENTAL MIDFIELD TRIO using Xavi as the DLP so he'll just sit a little deeper with Iniesta pushing slightly forward but still retaining position in the middle of the park... I decided to use two INSIDE FORWARDS with Pedro attacking so he will run and put some balls in the box and Neymar as in the supporting role so he is more likely to lay the ball to Messi and not crossing the ball as much... I however give NEYMAR more creative licence while PEDRO to stick to his role...I gave Messi no additional player instruction, Xavi and Iniesta ease off tackles... BUSQUESTS and my CWB

My TEAM INSTRUCTIONS are now hopefully less contradictory... with the control mentality I'm looking to keep the ball while have the patience to craft out chances...

I hope this tactic suits me better...
