luka_zg 154
Question is simple. How to create defensive/counter attacking system in 4-1-4-1 formation with wingers as the attacking outlet? I have quite an inferiour team compared to the rest of the league so I need the tactic to be "men behind the ball" so to speak, but also when having the ball to try and do fast counter attacks. Any suggestions?
Britrock 202
Some thoughts: Maybe WBa (possibly even CWBa) for the full backs with DWs at MLR, gives you a nice overlap for width when attacking but defensive cover from the DWs. A HB at the DMC position, to give you three at the back when the FBs get forward, a CMa in midfield to get forward to provide support to the striker, then some sort of creator alongside him (DLPs or APs?). Up front maybe a defensive forward to chase down the opposition or possibly a complete forward on support. I'd try to avoid anyone on an attacking duty as they'll be very lonely on their own. luka_zg 154
What does HB do when my team is in possession of the ball? he drops between my CB's or stays in the hole and drops in defence only when myy team plays without the ball?

The second one. Theoretically he drops between the DCs when you are defending, and steps back into midfield when you regain possession. What it means in practise is that you'll often need a responsible player at MC, because when you defend a big gap opens up between your DC and MC lines wen the Half Back drops back. luka_zg 154
I'm not really sure about this HB role..I would rather go with anchor man on DM.
JamieAdams3 10
I would personally only use a Half Back when full backs/wing backs are offensive. Provides that much needed cover and can allow for some good short build up play that is needed with high full backs.
RTHerringbone 1,131
NakS has done a decent job showing how a Half Back is positioned in different phases of play: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/376697-The-Half-Back-and-quot-Freeing-Up-quot-a-Player?p=9256207&viewfull=1#post9256207
