llama3
so i just started a new save, i guess i'll log what i get up topre season was short and simple, two away trips to wolves and barnet wolves 2 - 1 arsenal griffiths 47, golbourne 86 - walcott 25 barnet 0 - 1 arsenal walcott 48 not the best start, but oh well. i opted to not allow transfer budgets so i'll be sticking with what i have for now, in a compact four four two arrangement team versus barnet You are going to seriously struggle with a lack of movement there. Can I recommend you visit the tactics forum here: http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php/18-Tactics-amp-Training-Discussion Particularly reading wwfan's 12 step guide: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/366111-How-to-Play-FM14-A-Twelve-Step-Guide As your team is going to be very disjointed and static. That wolves result is not a freak result - its because you had no movement whatsoever.
KingLara
FM14 ARSENAL SEASON 4 REVIEW Another very successful season. Winning all seven trophies. Story of the season PRE SEASON I made three major signings with Tevez, Schwiensteiger and Rull coming in. A cobined fee of just over 11m Departures included Giroud and Zieler leaving for 31m and Valdes on a free. Pre season was our best yet. We didn’t concede a goal in our first five matches before letting one in against Barcelona in the Emirates Cup. We still won that though beating Juventus 4-1 in the final. SQUAD Squad changed a bit. Gencer, Begic and Saudners all promoted. Gibbs and Alonso down to Under 21’s Rulli Gencer Baines Begic Peruzzi Sagna Vermaelen Balanta Mertersacker Kocielny Insigne Gomez Lacazette Wilshere Toure Ramsey Schweinsteiger Ozil Lewandowski Walcott Saunders PREMIER LEAGUE We won the league easily enough. Although lost four games which is twice as many as last two seasons combined. We also finished with less points. At one point we were on to hit over 100 goals but suffered late on by being in too many competitions. Just 9 goals conceded at home is good. However just 29 scored away is very poor. ajw10
Done with this. Won the League and CL in my second season despite being pretty ****. Decided to change it up by playing 3 AMC's in a 4-2-3-1. Clearly this doesn't work as wingers are EVERYTHING on this game. Signed Diego Costa to solve my striker woes. He can't hit a barn door. Open goal, one on one with the keeper, it doesn't matter. HE WILL MISS. This game is no fun. Nothing makes any sense. I can't go back to 13 because there are things on 14 that I will miss. Pretty sure I'm done with the series. DEERHAUNTER
http://gyazo.com/51ea91ecf93ae208a2d2c62eda51910f Get stuffed Chelsea. Even sweeter as it's a tactic I've developed. Was worried at the start as Szczesny was "Looking switched off". Mourinho tried playing mind games as per usual. 23 games gone and that win made me leapfrog Chelsea to the top of the table, lovely stuff. Thought I'd get a save going as Arsenal as I am a fan of them, but my other save is getting frustrating as I'm stuck in Norwegian 2nd division haha ----------- Transfer wise only brought in Diego Costa and Efy Ambrose. In all honesty, who ever I seem to play as ST aren't really scoring too many, although Giroud did get a fair few whilst Costa was injured. It's alright though as me midfield are scoring/assisting buckets between each other. EDIT: Can someone give me a good image hosting website thingy majig that's as good as Gyazo with regards to easily taking/uploading a picture, cheers. JD nawrat
Hey guys. Started an Arsenal save ages ago in order to experiment with the Christmas Tree formation over in T&TD. Sadly I lost interest quite quickly with the save and with FM in general but I have since found interest again so I've been playing with Arsenal (same save) since yesterday. Thought I might as well update my on-goings in here too. Not often I post in GP&TG these days because most threads are inactive but the Arsenal thread is one of the more active ones so I might as well post Just a quick few screenshots of my fixtures, tactic, squad, league table and transfers to start off with: Great results so far. One defeat in my first 22 games in charge. Even got offered a new contract for this. 10 straight wins the best run I've put together so far. Only one game missing from this screenshot is shown on the right panel (0-0 with Man Utd). They're our closest challengers at the top currently... So far doing very well in the league. Proud of what we've accomplished thus far. The defence isn't keeping opposition out as much as I was hoping but we're doing alright defensively I suppose. Joint best in the league with the fourth best attack at the minute. Transfers in/out. Sagna wasn't attacking enough so he was shipped out. Flanagan's a great young prospect and actually one of my best players of the season so far. Coleman's been riddled with injuries which is frustrating. Bender's getting terrible ratings but he's doing what I want so it's fine. And Stevan Savic is a good player thus far. The squad. The tactic. Although be aware that this is a second string team in preparation for the 6th CL game (qualified with two games remaining, easily). Working well so far. Standout performers... Mark.
Wow you really have Serge playing awesome for you there mate. Mind posting a screen shot showing Goals/Assists from the squad page. I take it Walcott is first choice up top? How are the two AMs going?
JD nawrat
Walcott was intended to be first choice but he suffered an injury and Podolski stepped up in his absence. Since Walcott's return I've tried to give the pair of them equal opportunities because I now realise Podolski can be great, but Walcott just isn't keeping up with the German so Podolski is first choice really. As for Serge, he wasn't intended to be first choice. He came off the bench a couple of times and looked great and he did really well in the first cup game of the season so I decided to start him in the next few games and he was awesome in them and has been first choice since, with Santi/Ozil rotating the other AMC spot and Rosicky playing back-up to Serge whenever he needs a rest. Wilshere and Coleman missing from the first screenshot... Wilshere's been performing awfully when I play him so he gets a lot of bench appearances. Coleman's only made four appearances so far this season due to injuries and the like
Mark.
Thanks for sharing. It's kind of interesting, it shows how different players seem to thrive in different situations. I notice that you have slightly different roles for the AM line depending on who is playing, ie Ozil was SS while Gnabry is AM. Its actually a pretty cool formation and sort of works with the Arsenal side, you do lose a bit of rotational options for The Ox etc, but he should be able to be developed into a pretty fine MC. Where is Wilshere struggling for you?
JD nawrat
I play Ozil as an Enganche, Santi as an AM/A, Gnabry as an AP/A Ox fits into my system either as an MC/S or an AM/A if I'm desperate for rotation (he's came off the bench a couple times for that exact reason). Wilshere's been playing as an AP/A, MC/S and as the DLP/D. Just can't get him performing. Think I might make him a solid DLP/D though and he can replace Arteta at the end of the season, meaning my starting trio can be Ramsey/Wilshere/Bender. And then eventually my two AMCs will be Gnabry and Zelalem (who I've not brought into the first team yet but will do at some point).
Mark.
Ah ok, you don't find that the roles changing depending who is playing affects how the positions interact too much? (Not criticizing, trying to get a better understanding) Would actually love to see a few in game pics etc!
JD nawrat
I'm not usually a fan of changing roles from game to game in all honesty, something I rarely do with one or two exceptions. But I find that if I ask Ozil to play AM/A he gets awful ratings where Santi always does good as an AM/A. I haven't actually tested Santi as an Enganche but it's something I might try out We play exciting football, just a shame I can't link my youtube account to my FM or I'd post some videos. I'll be bumping the thread I linked above later in the week and I'll probably have plenty of screens to show then
Mark.
Great looking forward to it I really should post about my current season. I actually am tempted to implement a similar tactic just when I want a lot of creativity at the top. I have brought in Montoya too who could excel in the WB role. Would be interesting to see how it goes with my current Tactical philosophy, I have been experimenting with a variety of shapes inside a Standard/Very Fluid setup with mainly support roles like Redmark did in his thread. The players have been expressing themselves very well so far and results have been pretty nice!

JD nawrat
Usually bombing into the final third to receive a pass from Ozil/Santi/Serge and then slamming it across the face of goal into the far corner. Kawee
So, playing my long-term Arsenal save, and as usual, just kicking butt everywhere. Most goals scored, least conceded every season, and having very little trouble even against the big teams. I've won Champions League in style with results like this: However, this one year, I was in the UCL final against At. Madrid, and it turned out to easily be one of the most embarrassing result in my entire FM career (and I've been playing since CM3) It was too bad to not share with you guys: How did I lose to 8-man At. Madrid? God only knows :o The worst part was, even though I put everything on the pitch to try and take advantage of their lack of players, we just didn't seem able to do anything. The last 10 minute of the game was highlight-less except for their 3rd red card. I had to stay off the game for like a week, and now I'm back on it, so I had to share this. Kawee
Did Atletico just set about kicking you off the pitch? highest number of bookings in any one game I've ever seen Actually, no. I was very surprised myself. They committed 15 fouls (nothing out of ordinary.) Crazy part was, my team committed 14 fouls ourselves, yet the took almost all the misfortune! I feel like the big evil club that did all the dirty tricks it could to win, but eventually lost out to the good underdog guys who won against all odds. JD nawrat
Nothing like a good ol' underdog story Got back round to continuing with my save for a bit. Beat Brighton in the Quarter Final of the Capital One Cup and drew Man United in the semi-finals (other semi is Fulham v Man City). Tough draw but I fancy us over two legs. Also beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. We didn't really deserve a win, should've been a draw if anything but OH WELL, not complaining Scored two of our four shots, Chelsea scored one of their 15 or so. They had a weakened team, too. Missing Oscar and Cech, possibly more. Got to take these opportunities though P17, W14, D2, L1. Twelve undefeated in the league now

Graphiccoma
Arsenal Season 2 Hi Guys, So i have a question.. just finished my first season Arsenal. Won the competition on Goals (shared 89 points with united) and champions league versus Juventus (early red card on their side helped alot) i did lose the Capital one cup final and FA cup final... the entire team preformed outstanding getting 7+ rating all around. now i sold Carzorla vor 31 Mil straight up to PSG (since he's 29 and i got some replacements) i got Balanta as a back up now. and got Niklas Sule to replace mertesacker on the long term. Question is PSG offered 23 mil for koscielny straight up. i could get a little more out of it.. should i sell him?? i also have incoming Ward-prowse (15 up front / 10 in 48 months) Will hughes (7.5 up front) Deulofeu (12 and 10 48 months) fischer (12 and 10 48 months) luke shaw (15 10 48 months) claudio yacob (12 up front) are these good deals...especially koscielny he was a beast last season. and i should get balanta some real 1st team time.. i also got mitrovic in wintertransfer as a youth / back-up.. Giroud scored 38 goals last season for me.. i do need a new striker for now. i was thinking Wilfried Bony. they want 13-15 mil for him.
Graphiccoma
I can recommend de Sciglio and Martin Montoya as good right backs, they've been doing well on my game. lewis999
I have absolutely no idea how I am going to fit Ozil, Santi, Aaron and Jack in my team. Having such a hard time deciding which shape I want to play as well.
feche
I'm actually in 2020 winning 6 EPL, 3 UCL and losing a final, 3 World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 3 FA Cups and 3 League Cups Played 411 matches with 322 W, 44 D and 45 L with a 78% of winning. Also 1084 goals scored and 319 against. This is the real players left in my squad. Szczesney Danilo Bartra Koscielny Pleguezuelo Shaw Baines Romero Ramsey Wilshere Fabregas Crowley Barkley Aguero If someone wants a screenshot of something in particular I'll put it. For example Aguero in season 18/19 scored 53 goals and 15 assists in 52 matches. In this season he has 36 in 31 apps until now (was 36 in 28 at some point). james_wilko
Go strikerless, you know you want to... I did that in my Arsenal save, Santi as the AML, Ozil as a Shadow Striker, Walcott as the AMR. Had Wilshere as a CM support next to a box to box midfielder (currently the Ox) and Ramsey behind as a DLP. Fantastic combination play & Ozil scores so many goals. Goonerslg
Just come to the end of December in my second season and the table looks like this... I was flying at the top until 3 defeats in December against Swansea, Cardiff and Forest totally derailed me. I'm not really sure what happened to be honest but with Chelsea and Sp*rs having games in hand I now face a bigger scrap for top spot than I should of. llama3
2 CM's I take it? Absolutely. Made some variations from game to game. But stuck to my 4-2-3-1 and I was comfortably best in the league. Won 18/19 home games, the other a draw. Need to improve a little defensively, plus in away games. Also in big european games too.

All these people on here keep making me think twice about that shape these days. All this MR/ML are the same but better defensively have got in my head haha. Goonerslg
I was thinking of trying out a 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond away from home to shore things up a bit and stick to my attacking 4-2-3-1 at home. Anyone had any experience using a diamond midfield?

Cheers bud. I'll give it a go tonight. What CM combo do you use? I'm thinking DLP and B2B both on support.

That could work if you have a good defensive mid behind him. Or go with a Regista and change the DLP to a CM(S)? Depends who you have really. Be wary in the EPL that a lot of teams use the 4-2-3-1 or variants so you could be exposed to a lot of wing play and 2 v 1 situations in a narrow formation.
