Club Background:

Manchester United Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, that plays in the Premier League. Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910.

In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United was the first English football club to win the European Cup, ten years after the Munich air disaster that claimed the lives of eight players. The current manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has won 37 major honours since he took over in November 1986.

Manchester United has won the most titles in English football, with 53 domestic trophies, comprising a record 19 league titles, a record 11 FA Cups, four League Cups and 19 FA Charity/Community Shields. The club has also been successful globally, winning seven international titles: three European Cups, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. In 1998–99, the club won a "Treble" of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, an unprecedented feat for an English club.

Manchester United is one of the wealthiest and most widely supported football teams in the world. As of July 2011, the club is number one in Forbes magazine's annual ranking of the world's 50 most valuable sports teams, valued at $1.86 billion. After being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, the club was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 in a deal valuing the club at almost £800 million.

Old Trafford is an all-seater football stadium in the Trafford borough of Greater Manchester, England, and the home of Premier League club Manchester United. With space for 75,957 spectators, Old Trafford has the second-largest capacity of any English football stadium after Wembley Stadium, the third-largest of any stadium in the United Kingdom, and the eleventh-largest in Europe. The stadium is approximately 0.5 miles (0.8 km) from Old Trafford Cricket Ground and the adjacent Manchester Metrolink tram station.

The ground, given the nickname the Theatre of Dreams by Bobby Charlton, has been United's permanent residence since 1910, with the exception of an eight-year absence from 1941 to 1949, following the bombing of the stadium in the Second World War. During this period, the club shared Maine Road with local rivals, Manchester City. The ground underwent several expansions in the 1990s and 2000s, most notably the addition of extra tiers to the North, West and East stands which served to return the ground almost to its original capacity of 80,000. Future expansion is likely to involve the addition of a second tier to the South Stand, which would raise the capacity to over 90,000. The stadium's current record attendance was recorded in 1939, when 76,962 spectators watched the FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town.

The ground has frequently hosted FA Cup semi-final matches as a neutral venue and several England international fixtures while the new Wembley Stadium was under construction. It also hosted matches at the 1966 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 1996, as well as the 2003 UEFA Champions League Final. Aside from football-related uses, Old Trafford has hosted rugby league's Super League Grand Final since the league's adoption of playoffs in 1998 and the final of the 2000 Rugby League World Cup.

Manchester United is reputed to be the most popular football club in the world, with the highest average home attendance in Europe. The club's worldwide fan base includes more than 200 officially recognised branches of the Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC), in at least 24 countries. The club takes advantage of this support through its worldwide summer tours. Accountancy firm and sports industry consultants Deloitte estimate that Manchester United has 75 million fans worldwide, while other estimates put this figure closer to 333 million.

Supporters are represented by two independent bodies; the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association (IMUSA), which maintains close links to the club through the MUFC Fans Forum, and the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST). After the Glazer family's takeover in 2005, a group of fans formed a splinter club, F.C. United of Manchester. The West Stand of Old Trafford – the "Stretford End" – is the home end and the traditional source of the club's most vocal support.

Manchester United has rivalries with four clubs: Arsenal, Leeds United, Liverpool, and Manchester City, against whom they contest the Manchester derby.

The rivalry with Liverpool is rooted in competition between the cities during the Industrial Revolution when Manchester was famous for its textile industry while Liverpool was a major port.

The "Roses Rivalry" with Leeds stems from the Wars of the Roses, fought between the House of Lancaster and the House of York, with Manchester United representing Lancashire and Leeds representing Yorkshire.

A rivalry between Manchester United and Arsenal also exists with various flare-ups over the years.

Squad 2012/2013 Season

Squad-photo-2012-13-v2-620x350.jpg

Goalkeepers:

Not an area that should need to much attention. With David De Gea beginning to find his feet in the EPL, and Anders Lindegaard acting as a capable back up, United possess to very competent first team GKs. Youngsters Ben Amos (loan) and Sam Johnstone are prospects for the future, and should be given time to develop with reserve/loan football.

Recommendations:

1st XI - David De Gea

Back up - Anders Lindegaard

Hot Prospect - Sam Johnstone (Reserves), Ben Amos (Loan)

Fullbacks:

United lack serious depth in the full back regions, and is an area on concern. Anyone wanting to mount a serious title challenge should be looking to strengthen the squad with recognised fullbacks. Patrice Evra is still more then capable of holding down the left side, but with young Fabio on loan, and Alexander Buttner preferring to play higher up the pitch, there is no recognised cover. Same can be said for the right hand side, with Rafael the only natural RFB in the squad. Phil Jones can provide make shift cover, but prefers to play more centrally. The only noticeable youth prospect is Tyler Blackett (DL), who looks to have a promising future.

Recommendations:

1st XI - LB - Patrice Evra / RB - Rafael

Back up - LB - Alexader Buttner / RB - Phil Jones

Hot Prospect - LB - Tyler Blackett

Transfer Targets:

RB - Kyle Walker - can be purchased from Tottenham for around £13 million. Established, English and capable of occupying Uniteds RB position for many years to come. A very good investment.

LB - Leighton Baines - English international looking to take the next step. Heavily linked with United, and if you're looking for a ready replacement for Evra then this is your man.

Central Defenders:

United begin the season with Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling still on the injury list, leaving the injury prone Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, along with Phil Jones, as Uniteds established CB's. When fit, all are capable of holding down a starting XI position, and one position United have very good depth in. Hot prospects Scott Wootton and Michael Keane will be looking to earn call ups in cup rounds, and will provide extra cover should you experience an injury crisis.

Recommendations:

1st XI - Nemanja Vidic / Rio Ferdinand

Back up - Chris Smalling / Phil Jones / Jonny Evans

Hot Prospects - Scott Wootton / Michael Keane / Tom Thorpe

Central Midfielders:

United possess an abundant of playmakers, but very little in support, and with Darren Fletcher out with a virus, may be a position you look to strengthen. The ever present Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, along with Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Anderson all provide United with plenty of pin point creative passing, but not much ball winning prowess. Phil Jones can fill the gap of ball winning midfielder until Fletchers return, but its needs addressing. New signing Nick Powell will also be looking to establish himself in the first team and adds depth to the playmaking ranks. Hot prospects Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe can be utilised in cup competitions. Anderson begins the season on the transfer list and can be used to free up room for a BWM.

Recommendations:

1st XI - Michael Carrick / Paul Scholes

Back up - Tom Cleverley / Ryan Giggs / Anderson / Nick Powell / Darren Fletcher / Phil Jones

Hot Prospects - Ryan Tunnicliffe / Larnell Cole

Transfer Targets:

BWM - Marouane Fellaini - Big, strong ball winning midfielder with ambition to play for a big club, would make a perfect addition to Uniteds engine room.

BWM - Yann M'Vila - The Frenchman has been linked to a lot of big clubs, and acts not only as a ball winner, but a player capable playmaker aswell. well worth his expensive price tag.

Attacking Midfielders/Wingers:

United possess one on the best out and out wingers in the game in Antonio Valencia, and combined with Ashley Young and Nani, provide Uniteds width. Centrally, Tom Cleverley, new signing Shinji Kagawa and a deep lying Wayne Rooney, look to provide the killer balls in the final third. Danny Welbeck has also proven himself capable of drifting out wide into an inside forward position, as can RVP and Ryan Giggs. Young prospects Robbie Brady and Jesse Lingard will be hoping for 1st team action, and should be sent out on loan to further their development.

Recommendations:

1st XI - Ashley Young / Shinji Kagawa / Antonio Valencia

Back up - Tom Cleverley / Nani / Ryan Giggs

Hot Prospects - Jesse Lingard / Robbie Brady

Strikers:

With the recent signing of star dutch striker Robin van Persie from Arsenal, United now possess on the deadliest strike forces in world football. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda and hot prospect Angelo Henriquez all are capable of scoring goals. Due to united's stocks, it may be worth looking for loan deals for Macheda and Henriquez, as well as other hot prospects Joshua King, Will Keane and James Wilson. With the multiple variations all strikers offer, you shouldn't have an issue scoring goals.

Recommendations:

First XI - Wayne Rooney / Robin van Persie

Back up - Javier Hernandez / Danny Welbeck / Angelo Henriquez / Federico Macheda / Ashley Young

Hot Prospects - Will Keane / Joshua King / James Wilson.

Conclusion:

United in the re-building phase, with alot of highly rated young players looking to establish themselves as key figures at Old Trafford. The veterans all still have their roles to play, and with the addition of some big names, United look more then capable of mounting a serious title challenge. The biggest issue for united is squad depth in the full back positions, as well as another ball winner in the middle of the park, and if you can rectify these issues, should enjoy a good start to your Manchester United careers.

ManchesterUnited_Overview-3.png

Conclusion

United, along with rivals City and Chelsea, look to be the main three competing for the title. Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham will all look to provide a challenge, with Everton and Newcastle being outside contenders. With a good mix of young talent and seasoned veterans, United's squad has the potential to extend its title total to 20.

With top level training facilities and youth academy, and the best coaches and scouts in the world, you have all the assistance you need to take the hotseat. A good transfer budget and excess wage bill means you can make some key signings, and should look to strengthen your full back and central midfield positions.

I wish you all the best, and look forward to seeing how you all get on with our beloved Manchester United.

I'd also like to add at the start of the game Manchester United doesn't have a Director of Football. Try to hire Damien Comolli.

Isnt the DoF only really usefull if you intend to delegate some responsibilities to him? If you prefer to keep all things hands on, are there any reasons to hire a DoF?

I think the records should only count when the full game is released.

SS of Fellaini, Goetze, and Strootman.

I missed out on Fellaini but it's okay.

Thank you.

Isnt the DoF only really usefull if you intend to delegate some responsibilities to him? If you prefer to keep all things hands on, are there any reasons to hire a DoF?

I agree.

can add nainggolan to that defensive midfield area better then m vila i think

May I see the SS of Nainggolan?

Screen Shots added of all player attributes / player info (PPMs etc) within first team squad

That is awesome. Thank you.

Fletcher is fit not long after the season starts and was very good for me everytime I called on him. He just settled the whole game, made simple passes and made no mistakes.

Also another great thing about Fletcher is that it seems he is a very good tutor. I got him to pair up with Phil Jones and Phil said he enjoyed his time and learned a couple of things that would help him in the future. I am hoping a similar outcome with Powell.

Angelo Henriquez was on loan at Udinese for the whole season, they said he would be a a valued member of the first team and he played 28 games scoring 5 goals. Not brilliant but considering he is 18 and Serie A isn't the easiest league in the world for strikers I think it was still the correct move. Udinese came back for him again on loan for a season as a valued member of the first team and I have decided to accept it. I would of prefared him to play in France or Holland but had no offers from those countrys.

Edit:

Forgot to mention I would highly recommend signing Stevan Jovetic in the first window. I got him for a mere 17.5mil and was my best player at the "business" end of the season. I've decided to make a bold move at the start of the 2nd season and move Rooney to midfield as a DLP - Support and give Jovetic his DLF - Support role upfront.

ofcourse i had to start with man utd

bought bale for 25m then i saw sandro got upset and transfer listed so bought him aswell for 12m.

started the season great but have gone into a slump recently, think it was because i changed from 4-2-2-2 to 4-2-3-1 at home. RVP is scoring nearly every gameb

trying to use scholes alot but his lack of physical attributes is hindering the team and might buy Thiago off Barca to be my playmaker as i saw hes been transfer listed.

sold anderson to everton, cleverley is so underrated its frustrating.

it will be great to see how henriquez develops as he has 5* potential. been trying to give him minutes off the bench and league cup starts

i did plan to get strootman but he doesnt seem that good in the game and not worth that price.

Given the fact that we have Scholes, Giggs, Kagawa, Cleverley and Anderson as our senior creative and offensive MC's I think that Strootman, Thiago and/or Goetze is not needed at all at least in the first season. Even after the first season after you get rid off Scholes and Giggs you still Kagawa, Cleverley and Anderson.

I also wouldn't go for Fellaini and/or Sandro. We have Fletcher and Carrick in that defensive MC role.

Vrsaljko could be the long term back-up for Rafael.

I don't justify buying Bale as we have Young and Buttner for AML position.

Why buy Jovetić when we have Rooney, van Persie, Chicharito and Welbeck?

I'm also against selling players in the first season. I think we should give at least one chance to every senior player for them to show us what they can do before eventualy selling them after the first season. I also don't buy unless I have to, so that's why I'm against buying unecessary players. That's just my policy though!

I agree with a lot of what you have said. I kept Carrick/Fletcher/Scholes & Giggs for the first season. Giggs really declines after 6months sadly. I never offered Giggs/Scholes new contracts at end of season and Fulham offered me 7.5mil upfront for Carrick at start of 2nd season which was just too good to turn down for a player in his 30's.

Imo, if you are looking for cover for Rafael I would just retrain Valencia there. I sold Valencia to Spurs for 15mil and he did amazing for them and Spurs finished 2nd in the league. I should of done what I said and kept him to give Rafael competition.

Young and Buttner are imo, not Man Utd standard. Arsenal offered me 13.5mil for Young which I accepted and I did give Buttner a chance as Evra's under study but in January when West Brom offered me 3.2mil I took it and signed Douglas Santos.

Sadly, Chicharito who is one of my favorite players irl, is not as good as I had hoped. Chelsea offered 15mil for him and considering Jovetic was going to cost me 17.5mil it was really a no brainer. Jovetic got more chances than I had planned since over the course of the first season RvP missed roughly 6months through injurys and he grabed the chance with both hands. Chicharito didn't have a good season with Chelsea finishing 6th but has made a bright start to the 2nd season.

Played 3 games in the EPL & 1 match in the CL. Team looks like this, although atm Jovetic has lost his place to Llorente (free transfer end of 1st season, 90k a week). Jovetic got a 3 match ban for a red card and Llorente has been brilliant, he either plays Target Man support or attack, depending if he starts/subs for the Poacher role or the DLF role.

Depending on how RvP does with form/injurys, I am considering bringing in Deulofeu from Barca as he hasn't agreed a new contract yet and I will be able to offer him one in January. RvP also has wages of 180k week so I am expecting more from him.

I hear what your saying but i sold young in my game, hes always poor in fm for some reason. sold him for £20m to tottenham after i took bale off them for £25m. upgraded AML only spending £5m.

I got Thiago as I want more flair in my team and will be using Cleverley as cover which he is good at as he is versatile and HG. also its a big catch for cheap as he has fallen out with Barca.

been playing rooney more at AM recently with RVP upfront on his own

is Hernandez performing for anyone? hes been poor the whole season for me

Excellent points. i never like to sell in the first season, and unless entirely needed, i dont like to buy either. I added Kyle Walker to the squad to rotate with Rafael, as i wanted to use Phil Jones provide cover in a DM spot or rotate with Fletcher in the MC-BWM position. Carrick and Scholes run the show for me, rotating in the MC-DLP position. Young, Cleverley, Valencia and Nani all provide my width, with Kagawa rotating with Rooney in the AMC position. RVP, Welbeck and Chicharito all compete for the ST position. Defensively, Buttner struggles, so i have him improving his defensive stats, and with so many goals coming from wingers, may need to be looked at.

Thought id give some screenies of my wide players, proving Young can handle it:

Started my United save and brought in Neymar and Walker. Loving how quick and easy it is to loan out the prospects. Also got Cantona as my DOF :D

Will mainly be playing 4231.

GKs De Gea/Lindergard

RBs Rafael/Walker

1st CB Rio/Evans/Jones

2nd CB Vidic/Smalling/Jones

LB Evra/Buttner

1st CM Carrick/Fletch/Ando

2nd CM Scholes/Giggs/Cleverley

LAM Neymar/Young

RAM Nani/Valenca

CAM Rooney/Kagawa

ST RVP/Hernandez/Welbeck

Got loads of options as Front 4 can basically all play in any of them positions. Fabio will come back to back-up Evra for a year or so before fighting with Buttner for starting spot. Rio will play less next season and drop down to 3rd or 4th choice with Wootton or Keane joining first team if no one is signed. Giggs and Scholes will get new contracts if they don't retire but will play very little and just tutor and coach. Powell will likely join the first team Tunnicliffe, Petrucci, Cole or Lindgard might as well but down to how Ando does and if Carrick leaves I might spend big to fill the key position. Future looking very bright.

Started a save to test the new options with Man utd.

Sold anderson , bought fellaini(25milj) , Gotze(25 milj) and Strootman(14 milj)..

Will start a new one when the full game is released.

How did you manage that when you only get £30m ?

Kagawa can play behind Rooney or VP and i use a MC , MC and AMC , so i needed Fellaini first choice ball winning midfielder(or box to box) and Götze as first choice MC

They are not that expensive , so a good buy :)

And IRL Ferguson also needs to find a new DMC and AMC ..

MCL(ball winning) : Fellaini, Carrick, Fletcher

MCR(dlplaymaker) : Götze , Scholes, Giggs

AMC: Rooney, Cleverly(or Kagawa)

ML: Kagawa, Young

MR : Valencia , Nani

SC: VP , Hernandez, Wellbeck

How is cantona doing , because his stats are average . I got Bernhard Peters as DOF , very expensive..

I don't want anyone to get me wrong. I'm not having a go at anyone, but it's just my policy and I know that's your policy. I just feel that there is no need to buy unless you really have to. For example if you have only one senior player in one position. I just think that everyone should be given a chance especially given the fact that the debt is still pretty big. But, it's each to their own! :D :D

I understand it Fabio, but fellaini was the key in FM12 for my Man utd succes (and he would be IRL ) and the lack of 'young' AMC's in the squad is also a problem. Kagawa is good but should be playing behind the striker of AML position, Scholes and giggs are great but not the youngest and Cleverly is underrated on FM.

Anyway, i start a new save when the full game is released and a few bad bugs are solved, then i won't sign Strootman because Fletcher and Carrick could do the job .

DOF is broke for buying players as aims to buy 3rd choice GK all the time so his stats are not really needed I just use him to offload players and he does but anyone could do the same tbh DOF is just for show for me but would add an nice extra challenge being force to just do tactics not transfers when it is fixed.
