PIAGOL!!! July Edition

Piacenza finished 9th in the Serie A this season, and are among the 3 Italian teams that are competing in the Intertoto a.k.a. EuroVase Cup. They have gone through to the semi-finals by beating OB, a Danish team, 3-0 on aggregate (0-3) (0-0). Two goals by frontman Calaio, and one trademark long-range shot by Buffel ensured Piacenza's smooth accession to the next round.

Piacenza finished just one point behind Ternana, 7th, who are directly and deservedly through to the UEFA Cup, following an excellent performance in their first year of top flight football.

As a result of lack of funds, and of a desire to reinforce the cohesion of his team for the coming season, manager Alexis Manson has decided to alter the team as little as possible. He parted only with Mettomo, who went to Serie B team Parma for 900k euro. Wingers Soto and Sionko, whose contracts are expiring soon, are on their way out too, as their demands for a contract renewal are too high to Manson's liking.

Manson has already secured Mauricio Donoso's signing, Albino Leffe's player of the season, and is currently looking to sign a central defender, right winger, and striker on loan in order to have enough cover in the event of injuries or suspensions, without inflating the wage bill. Linz is another player who could be shown the door, if another striker joins the club.

If Manson makes enough money out of selling another couple of players, he might decide to splash the cash on a defender, as Piacenza's major weaknesses this season were clearly at the back, and without some heroic perdormances by Lastuvka, the team could have found itself in big trouble.

Another worry for the squad is Salomon Kalou possible departure, as Liverpool and Barcelona have offered his minimum fee release clause, which amounts to 10 million euro.

Manson is currently negotiating with the player for a possible renewal of his contract which would increase the release clause fee to 25 million euro, but it is unlikely the player will want to renew his contract at Piacenza when he has the opportunity to move to such illustrious clubs as Barca or the Reds.

CESENA Calcio  BENVENUTA Kozak

cesenajpeg.jpg

Cesena building at the team while the preseason just started

Earlier we spoke about the first 2 signings for coming season at Cesena: Mohamad Momin and Andre Hanssen. Like promised by its manager, Cesena stayed busy on the transfer market. The long awaited winger became an experienced player. His name Camoranesi and he comes on a free transfer from AS Roma. Also a previous Juventus player. Especially his Serie A experience was a main reason of this buy.

The week before Cesena signed a central defender. Boubacar Diarra came also on a free transfer from Freiburg. He will be in fight with Italian Compagnone for the 2nd central position at the back. The Dino Manuzzi based team failed to buy cultured & experienced left wingback Roger on a free transfer from Aston Villa. The former Spanish international choose for Serie B team Parma ïŒ.

“We are only looking for an extra striker with Serie A talent. Don’t expect players for other positions. After the sale of Zacchini to Cagliari for 350.000 Pounds we have 2.1million to spend. We must be creative and I hope to have news on this item soon. A full team a month before the league start is what we wantâ€, all said by Kozakiani…

After a sucessful end of first serie A season albinos looking to streghten their team to survive next year in serie A. Manger Kuk stays on the ground and said next season will be even harder then the past one.Two big signings in this preseson .... Vagner Love moved from CSKA in a record free for the small italian side ....he should secure 10-15 goals this season among with younggod Adam Freeman. Kuk let Donoso, the argentinian surprise of the season as he is getting rather old and Kuk needs a phisicaly stronger midfielder to handle virtuosos albinos strikers. New signing serb will do the job. Albino still looking to buy a strong defender to complete the squad altho its not a priority.

FC Parma

----------------

Ennio Tardini:

After finishing dead last in the previous season, Parma have surprisingly turned to inexperienced Norwegian manager Stian Martinsen to bring the team back to the Serie A. Last season was a total disaster for the former UEFA Cup champions. The Gialloblù won only 4 games through the whole league campaign, waving goodbye to Serie A with only 23 points and a goal difference of -39.

The young Norwegian has a massive task ahead of him if he is to gain the respect of the players and bring Parma back to glory. We all remember important names in football making their breakthrough in Parma. The likes of Crespo, Cannavaro, Buffon, Adriano and Gilardino among many others, all made a name for themselves in Parma after being brought to the club as only average players. At his first press conference at the Ennio Tardini, Martinsen spoke about how he was looking to bring in new players to shine just like these. He said that he was confident he was the right man to help the club back to the Serie A and eventually rise to the heights of the early/mid 90s. He left yesterdays press conference with a confident smile on his face, seemingly not affected by the pressure to reach promotion already during his first year in charge. People connected to Parma are waiting in excitement to see what kind of effect he will have on the clubs fortunes.

Forza Parma!

PIAGOL!!! September Edition

When we stated two seasons ago that Piacenza would become one of the top clubs in Italy within the next 2-3 seasons, Davide 'Dello'Spliff' described the statement as the 'howler of the year'.

Piacenza proved last season, by qualifying for the Intertoto Cup, that they were a team to be reckoned with. However, their performances on the pitch, apart from a few excellent results against the likes of Juve, failed to convince anyone that they had the ability to achieve great things.

With the departures of Salomon Kalou and Thomas Buffel, two key players last season, it looked like Piacenza were going to struggle in the Serie A, unless French manager Alexis Manson managed to attract big names to replace them.

He has done exactly that. Mancini was bought for around 7 million euro, a bargain for a player of this quality. Something tells us Kalou will soon be forgotten by the fans. Lewandowski, a strong defender who can also play in midfield, was bought to strengthen an alarmingly weak defence.

Piacenza's start to the season has been impressive to say the least. They qualified for the UEFA Cup by beating Real Madrid in the final of the Intertoto, 1-0 at home, and then 2-0 at the Bernabeu Stadium.

They have also won their first three league games, including a 4-1 thrashing of Atalanta.

New signings Lewandowski, Mancini, and Donoso (former Albinoleffe star) have immediatly adapted to Manson's tactics, and have largely contributed to this explosive start.

It is of course too soon to tell whether Piacenza have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season, but if they can beat Real Madrid twice in a row, why shouldn't they be able to beat the likes of Milan, Roma, Inter, or AC Milan?

We said two seasons back that Piacenza might become one of the best Italian clubs within 2-3 years. We are now 2 years later, and already Piacenza have shown signs of a great club. They are 6 points ahead of As Roma after only 3 games. So we would like to ask you, who is laughing now, mister 'Dello'Spliff'?

Piacenza Starting XI

1: Lastuvka

2: Melchiot/Lamey

3: Sigurdsson/Piva

4: Lewandowski

5: Faty/Koubsky

6: Zlogar

7: Mancini

8: Carter/Some Ghanean (I think??) DMC whose name I've forgotten

9: Pazzini/Zigic

10: Calaio/Linz

11: Donoso/Perez

Piacenza have a bit of money left to spend, but left it too late to try and buy Eduardo Costa (DMC), they might decide to sign him during the January mercato if things aren't going as planned.

They might decide to sign a winger, as well as a striker on loan, in case one of their strikers suffers a long-term injury.

Parma

------------------------------

In front of the new season Gialloblù is predicted favourites to grab the Serie B title, and secure a quick return to the topflight. The new manager has been given an excellent transfer budget, and will have no excuse for not achieving Serie A status at the end of the season. With money between his hands Martinsen got busy in the transfermarket already in his first weeks in charge. Some new faces have arrived, showing that Martinsen is serious about gaining promotion in his first year. The most important signing seems to be England striker Michael Owen, who joined the club on a free transfer, looking to get his career back on track in Italy. Also Mexican playmaker Juan Pablo Rodriquez, signed in a 4,2 million pound deal from Istres, is expected to make an immediate impact. The complete “transfers in†list look like this:

Michael Owen (No club) Free

Juan Pablo Rodriquez (Istres) 4,2m

Thando Mngomeni (Helsingborg) 925k

Ovidiu Petre (Chievo) 925k

Lars Iver Strand (VÃ¥lerenga) 825k

Lucien Mettomo (Piacenza) 600k

Aliou Cisse (Cesena) 70k

Parma

-----------------------------

The season opened with the group stages of the Italian cup. These games were treated more like pre-season frendlies, resulting in an early exit from the cup after 1 win and 2 draws.

The real action started with the Serie B opener home against Catania.

Catania (H) 3-0 win

The new signings secured a good start to the season with two pens from Rodriquez, and 1 goal from Owen.

Fiorentina (A) 3-4 loss

After leading 3-1 at half time, Parma collapsed and lost 4-3. Goals from Pienaar(2) and Owen.

Arezzo (H) 3-0 win

Napoli (A) 1-1 draw

Parma brought home one point from the once so mighty San Paulo stadium. Cisse goalscorer at

historical ground in Naples, where many players claimed to sense the spirit of the great Diego/ God.

Catanzaro (H) 2-0 win

Parma continues to stand out as a strong home team, with sub Degano scoring twice.

Verona (A) 1-1 draw

Away against James’ men was a tough game, and Parma will be happy with the result. Dalmat scored.

Reggina (H) 0-0 draw

First goalless match. Reggina goalie MOM.

Genoa (A) 1-1 draw

A disappointing draw after totally controlling the game. Genoa GK Carini stopped everything ending up with a 10 rating. Rodriquez scored the goal.

Parma

-------------

Gialloblù is going real strong in Serie B at the moment. The new manager seem to have turned things around, and Parma now look destined for a return to Serie A. The new centrehalf signings, Petre ond Mettomo, are proving brilliant additions to the squad. With the two of them showing good form, Parma look extremely solid. A great ongoing run of nine games without conceding a single goal proves great strength at the back. Up front Michael Owen is doing what he is payed for, bagging goals. South African duo Pienaar and Mngomeni are also proving lethal infront of goal. New boy Mmngomeni only recently made his brake through into the starting eleven, and seem likely to become a fans favourite at the Ennio Tardini with his superb dribbling skills.

After the teams last match, a 4-0 away hammering of Catania, manager Martinsen was asked a few questions:

Q: The team looks strong now. How do you see your chances to reach Serie A?

A: Easy. This team is simply too good to play in Serie B.

Q: Do you feel you have the confidence of the board and the fans now, after the recent good results?

A: I sure do. When I first got here I must admit I felt the pressure. Everyone around here expect Serie A football next year, so I had to the get results right away. Now I am starting to prove my knowledge of the game, so the critics is backing off.

Q: One of the clubs biggest stars when you arrived was forward Coriva. So far this season he doesn't seem have such an important role. How is Corivas future at the club?

A: Coriva is out. He is transferlisted, and will be sold or loaned out if we get a decent offer. Unless he gets his act together, and start performing in training and in the matches he do get, he is not in my plans.

Q: Rumours has it the club is struggling with a enormous wage bill. Is this true?

A: Well, there is no secret that some players earn good money at this club.

Q: Yes, but I asked if the club is struggling to keep up with the wages. Have you exceeded the wagebuget?

A: (Pause) I don't understand this question. Your italian accent makes your english hard to understand. I'm sorry.. (Leaves quickly)

Giallopazzi - The Roma fanzine with attitude 2008 Christmas special

Ho ho ho, Romanisti! It's that special time of the year again, when all the kiddies quiver with anticipation at the thought of all those bright new toys they're about to receive. Our lads at Trigoria are no different, though they may have to wait another six months to get their hands on a shiny trophy. Roma are still on course in the three competitions they entered this season: Serie A, the Champions' League and the Coppa d'Italia. Inter look the strongest at the moment in the league, but the Giallorossi have dragged themselves back to within eight points after a poor start to the season, and are now actively chasing the leaders along with Milan, whilst the rest of the pack have been well and truly left behind.

In the Champions' League, Roma easily qualified by winning Group B, in which Betis Sevilla, Rosenborg BK and Slovakian side Zilina had also been drawn. They will meet Glasgow Celtic in the last 16.

In the Coppa d'Italia, Roma have reached the Quarter-Final and play Juventus, who despite being one of the favourites for the league title have already been distanced by Inter, Milan and Roma.

Coach Dello Spliff has made some tough decisions at the beginning of this season, letting club legend Francesco Totti join rivals AC Milan, and giving young Cesc Fabregas the playmaker's role. After a hesitant start in Serie A the team has begun to click, and wingers Junior Khanye -who is keeping Italy regular Antonio Cassano out of a place in the first eleven- and Maxi Rodriguez -who joined in the summer on a free transfer to replace Mauro Camoranesi- have been outstanding. The squad looks well balanced, and will be further strengthened by the arrivals of Argentine defender Demichelis, young French midfielder Ted Lavie and Russian striker Anatoly Guerk.

In the spirit of the feastive season, we decided to ask some of the players what their ideal Christmas present would be:

"A cosmonaut's outfit by Jean-Paul Gaultier" Djibril Cissé (King of Kitsch)

"A new pair of lederhösen" Michael Rensing (Sour Kraut)

"La minchia della tua moglie" Daniele De Rossi (Replacing Totti In Our Hearts)

"Pro Evolution Soccer 7" Gaël Clichy (Playstation Addict)

"You can start by washing my car" Davide Dello Spliff (Doesn't Understand "No")

Exclusive Manson Interview

French/Irish manager Alexis Manson, currently manager of Serie A team Piacenza, appeared on Italian TV channel Rai Due for an exclusive interview.

Interviewer: Your team seems to be getting stronger and stronger every year, despite not possessing the same means as great clubs such as AC Milan, AS Roma, or Juve. How do you do it?

Alexis Manson: The way I do it is quite simple. I think long-term. This does not mean I bring in talented 15 year olds like some managers do. I sign the best players available at a given time, taking into account the needs of my team, or at least what I consider them to be.

My main aim is to build a balanced team, with players who know each other and appreciate each other's contributions to the club. So far I have been relatively successful at doing this. We have shown that we couldn't compete with the best teams, but we are not that far behind. What I am striving to do now, is to reinforce our position as a UEFA Cup club, and then build on this to hopefully oust one of the big guns and reach the Champions League.

I: Are you scared that by doing this, your club, one season, might play below-par and not fulfill its expectations, and mess up a currently comfortable situation which will take time to get back to, specifically because of this lack of money and infrastructure?

A.M: Of course, this has happened to many clubs before. Look at what happened to Alaves, they had 2 fantastic seasons, then had one average one, and they were never able to recover from this. If this happens to me, I will have to seriously consider the option of resigning, because somewhere, somehow, I, and the rest of the team, will have failed, and failure often implies consequences.

However, I am confident this will not happen to us. I would like to think that I am doing my job relatively sensibly, and I am sure that as long as I remain the Piacenza manager, and that I am able to keep as much power within the club (i.e. having full control over who we sign and how we run the club financially and economically), Piacenza will remain a competitive team.

I: Finally, will you be the Piacenza manager next season, or will you be looking for a new challenge?

A.M: I am really enjoying my job at the moment, and the results are going our way. There is therefore no reason for me to abandon a team which I have built on my own for the past 5 seasons. The only event which could lead to my departure is if I am contacted by Lazio, Juve, Ac Milan, or Inter. It's as simple as that.

I: Thank you very much for your time, Mr. Manson, and good luck, you are doing a truly fantastic job with this team.

Extracts from Trigoria FM's daily 'Notizie Giallorosse' radio program, 22nd January 2009

"...and thank you for that report, Marcello. The next item is a little conversation we had with signor Dello Spliff early this morning, as he arrived at Trigoria. Donatella Mettemila was our reporter."

...

"Signor Dello Spliff, after the victory over Juve in the Coppa d'Italia, how do you see the season progressing for Roma?"

"That's a very good question, dear. Can I just say I really like your shoes, by the way. And your hair. Hmmm...Oh yes, the season...Well, to be honest, I think you should ask someone who is actually paid to make that kind of prediction. I'm just paid to manage the team, on and off the pitch; I'm not much good at predictions, I'm afraid. Or a medium -you could ask a medium. Isn't that what they do for a living?"

"Erm...Yes, perhaps...But I'm sure our listeners are more interested in what you think will happen. So what do you think?"

"I think some of your listeners might not agree with your certainties on what they are interested in. But ok, let's assume they are; I think the rest of the season will be a success if the team plays well, but that it will be a failure if the team doesn't."

"Yes...Could you perhaps be more specific?"

"See, that's where you could use a medium. A medium could be specific, what with all the messages they get from the beyond, and suchlike. I'm afraid the future is just a great big blank page to me."

"Right...Well, one final question then: did you see the Piacenza manager's interview on RaiDue last night, and if so, what do you think of his predictions?"

"I did, yes. I think he wouldn't make a very good medium. I liked the bit about what he is striving to do. I mean, I hate to put a downer on things, but it seemed to me that what he was striving to do was get a job at one of the big clubs -everyone knows they have rejected his applications time and time again. But if he can convince himself and his players that he is thinking of the 'long-term' for Piacenza, then I'm very happy for him."

"Erm...Thank you for your thoughts, signor Dello Spliff. Perhaps we had best leave it there..."

"My pleasure, signorina. Buona mattina."

Parma

Champions! With four games left to play, Parma have secured the Serie B title. The new champions could celebrate winning the title after beating second placed Vicenza home at the Ennio Tardini. In a close encounter the 1-0 vicory was secured by South African Thando Mngomeni. Everyone present at the stadium yesterday could feel a sense of relief. Supporters, players and staff all seemed more relieved than happy. The feeling amongst people at the club is clearly that by promoting they have done nothing more than what is expected. There is nothing extra to celebrate.

Through the season Parma have kept a steady course towards promotion. There was never a doubt that this team were to good for Serie B.

Link to post

After securing promotion tp the Serie A, the club's young manager was asked to say a few words.

Q: Happy?

A: Offcourse we're happy to win the title, but I also feel the club should never have been here at all. This club is way to big for the Serie B. We have done nothing more that our job by winning this title. Now we are back were we belong!

Will there be celebrations through the night now? Or is focus still on the remaining 4 games?

A: To be honest I don't care about the last four games. In other words; the lads are free to have a few beers after a job well done.

Q: Many people doubted that a young norwegian manager like yourself could help this club back on track. Now you've surely proven your critics wrong. Any comment on that?

A: In your face everybody!!

Q: Ehh.. right.. How do you see the next season? Can the team cope with the pressure of Serie A football?

A: Easy, sure we can.

Q: Wow! That's pretty bold.. Anyway thank you, and concratulations.

Martinsen drove away in his promotionbonus, a big ass Mercedes, to the cheering from fans in the back. The good results and he's somewhat arrogant style has surely made him a big favourite with the fans at the Ennio Tardini. With Martinsen i charge they now expect great things for Parma.

The worst thing happened to me. After an easy championship season in Serie B Cesena directly relegated again to serie B.

Manager Kozak blamed all to his assistant, luck and his striker Lucero p icon13.gifss.

After being 6th in league after 10 games Kozak had to move houses and assistant Zola took over the job. He succeeded to blow whole season away. With loosing easy games and making all star players unhappy.

After Kozak cam back his team was 16th and Very Poor morale. Season was lost. However other managers like "Mr.Stuck-tila" kept saying Cesena would survive, Kozak was right. His team was lost.

Next season will be an easy one Kozak told the press. With the Serie A quality players that move in the job is to win the Italian cup. The title will be be 100% ours! angryfire.gif

Giallopazzi - The Roma fanzine with attitude. December 2009.

With last season's second-place finish in Serie A, Roma were guaranteed a place in the Champions' League Group Stage, and they had a very comfortable start to their 2009/2010 league campaign, going unbeaten for their first nine games (including seven wins). Unfortunately our beloved Giallopazzi had a very poor month of October, which coincided with signor Dello Spliff's absence from the dugout, after he suffered a recurrence of malarial symptoms.

But since Dello Spliff's return at the end of October, Roma have gone another nine games unbeaten, and they inch closer and closer to the top of Serie A, vying for supremacy with usual suspects Inter and Andrezj Kuk's impressive Udinese side.

There are few new faces at Roma this season, but Dello Spliff has brought in Belgian international playmaker Dirk Battaglia, who has put in some excellent performances and taken over Cesc Fabregas' place in the first team. French international Rio Mavuba was Roma's big buy of the summer, and after a hesitant start he has begun to justify his reputation and the 20M Euros pricetag. Highly-rated youngster Davide Barbiero, whom Dello Spliff had managed as a youth player at Ascoli, was also brought in to add depth to the forward line.

Roma qualified easily from Champions' League Group H, which included Barcelona, Rangers and Wisla Krakow, topping the group with five wins and a draw from their six games.

All this should lead to an exciting second half of the season, with the Giallorossi still in the running for all three major competitions they are involved in. Whether they can keep up their current form remains to be seen, but manager Dello Spliff is determined to win his first Serie A title after going close in the last two seasons.

No humorous quotes in this edition, I am sorry to say, as our reporters have been informed they would be shot on sight if spotted lurking near the gates at Trigoria. Fair enough, I suppose.
