Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am proud to announce to you all, the newest site on the football scene, may I introduce you to... The-Gaffer.net.

With the new football season beckoning, Football Manager 2009 imminent and Football Manager Live in its Beta testing stages, Myself and my staff team decided to merge all three of these into one friendly and resourceful community.

We have a daily updated main site where you will find all the latest news and articles as well as our community forums.

Whilst it may seem ambitious to be concentrating on all rather than one, the-gaffer.net has built up a decent staff team, and we are confident in our abilities to appeal to everyone, we have an extremely talented and dedicated staff team which consists of the following;

  • Si
  • Putzy

With this team we aim to provide a superb service to all of our members, supplying them with high quality content, amazing discussions, up to date news and articles, many challenges and competitions and much, much more.

With Football Manager 2009 close to hitting the shelves, we have created our very own logo, kit and facepack styles which we will be working on and creating every graphics for every individual and club in the game. We also offer a lot more to assist you in your game including skins, and guides.

Over the next few weeks we will be adding a lot of competitions for our members to participate in, some of these having prizes for the winners.

Our FMLive section is currently rather small, this is due to the fact that it is still going through its Beta testing phase, but for now, our section is more than capable of assisting those who do test the game or those who are dubious about buying the game.

So on behalf of all of us at The-Gaffer, we look forward to seeing you around and if there is anything we can do for you, please just ask.

Quality is a word that impresses people. Quality play, quality burgers, quality gear, it appeals to you and if something is named quality... you get a feeling of its satisfactory use and an impression that it may be of use to you whether that be hunger or boredom etc. The-Gaffer is a new Football Manager website as some of you may be aware, and after a somewhat O.K. start, it is now developing into a decent site. This is all developing via the staff room, where constant discussion is now underway on how The-Gaffer (TG) can be made better, and possibly legendary across the scene. Currently these people are:

Administrators

Si

Putzy

Global Moderators

JJ.44

Nexus

RGE

Forum Moderators

Lineo

Huntelaar

Macca

Peo

RedManc

Most of those names will be nothing more than letters to you, but once I have convinced you to register at The-Gaffer, I am sure you will realise that each of them are part of a 'Quality' line-up. Sure, enough with the chit-chat, What can we offer you? Well, where to start? As Sports Interactive are currently adding the final touches and heading on the home-straight upon their release for Football Manager 2009, we are focusing on the ultimate selection of utilities for the new game. These utilities include:

  • Quality Databases, for when your default game gets boring, and to save you bags of time from having to build one from scratch even including a database request system.
  • Graphics, ranging from full skins to facepacks. Everyone's work is welcome, if you fancy designing some of your own stuff and putting your Photoshop skills to the test, where better of a place to do so? There is no such thing as a poor effort, try your best and we will comment constructively so hopefully your next effort will be even better! If you don't fancy your luck at designing your own graphics, we also have a special talent in making them. Lineolus '09 (Click Here) is a slick new style which is creeping its way up the ladder, and will be a major part of this year's graphical master class with a big designing team for the T-G exclusive facepack.
  • A healthy off-topic section, something which is a must for every website you visit. Our goal is to make sure that T-G is not only a place you come after losing 3-0 to Derby with Man Utd, but a place where you come when you are bored - to have a laugh or comment on Lucy Pinder’s rack. Everyone here is friendly, so don't be shy – people who are troublemakers are quickly dealt with and are not tolerated here.
  • A prediction league! Time for some real football, predict the week's scores and discuss your psycho abilities or cry at your awful guesses, it adds more to the general banter of T-G. You can find the Prediction League Here
  • Fantasy Football, something we offer free courtesy of PremierLeague.com. Sign up with your team of your choice, and compete against our amazing line-ups. Click Here for details and sign up to defeat the smug Lineo!
  • We also have a Kit of the Week competition (KOTW), something that also appeals to the graphical geniuses of the community. Winners get a nice little graphical prize to display and show off all over the forum! Click Here to Sign Up!
  • Our very own exclusive tactics, request them and post your team, and our miniature Alex Ferguson's will come up with a tactic to guarantee your team league success!
  • Lengthy reviews, bits for you to pick out if you're lazy or long detailed descriptions if you are really interested in a player. Request them too if you feel your scout isn't quite up to scratch, we're free scouts!
  • We also offer more entertainment in the form of challenges, AI experiments and on/offline games, just to keep you busy during the long wait for FM'09.

Lineolus '09 - Exclusive to The-Gaffer

We have recently undergone a bit of a re-decoration in the form of a new forum skin, a new main site, both of which give you the option to pick your own skin for it.

This is just a short pick out of what we can offer at The-Gaffer, and at the moment we are still on a limit. You are what we want to help increase the limit, and in future destroy it to become a truly Quality Football Manager Fansite.

The-Gaffer.net - Quality Guaranteed.

First of all, everyone at The-Gaffer hopes that you've had a great time over the Christmas period and would also like to wish you all the best for the New Year. Now then, after months of no updates, we feel that this advert is essential in showing you where The Gaffer currently stands.

After a steady and successful 2008, The-Gaffer is gearing up to a prosperous and booming 2009. We have many major plans this year, some of which have already been put into place and the others are in production and raring to go. We see The-Gaffer as a site with masses of potential and believe that with hard work and dedication it can succeed as a top FM fansite.

So, what has changed and what is going to be changed as we follow on from the celebrations of the new year. First of all we have altered the staff structure making it easier to identify the staff roles, condensing them into two categories;

Administrators

Hayesie: Site Owner / Head Admin

Putzy: Site Owner / Tech Guy

Lineo: Site Admin

Moderators

RGE: General Mod

TommyFM: General Mod

Shaggy: FM/FML Mod

Marshall: Off Topic / Graphics Mod

Next of all is our brand spanking new mainsite which went online on the 1st January thanks to our talented coder and admin, Putzy. The mainsite is a semi-portal to our forums, containing all the latest content and files from The Gaffer in an easy to navigate design. It is quite simple and there is nothing too flash included from the word go, but we can ensure installation of more and more features when needed and requested by members.

Along with the new mainsite, Putzy has created a matching forum skin. The new skin replicates the main site well and fits perfectly with our theme. Similar to the mainsite we are looking for ideas and suggestions on how to improve the skin, all ideas will be welcomed.

Since The-Gaffer opened in late July 2008, we have gone through numerous amounts of 'Headers' and 'Logos' for the site, however none of which have looked professional enough, so we are looking to YOU for assistance. The idea is to get our members involved with TWO competitions, hopefully we can find 'The One' during this. Part One of the competition is the search for a new TG logo. If you would be interested in helping out The-Gaffer and entering then please consider it. The rules can be found here.

After these two competitions, the Graphic of the Week will run as normal from Friday to Friday with voting taking place over the weekend after the deadline for entries. Each week will have a different theme ranging from 'Great Goalkeepers' to 'Deadly Animals'. The type of graphic will change every week, sigs, icons/ava's and wallpapers will be on show.

We are also in the process of creating a monthly FM Magazine, the basic layout and structure is finished and once the staff team have decided on content to include, the release date will be imminent. The magazine will include exclusive site news, interesting articles and invaluable guides covering players, clubs and leagues.

The-Gaffer's first monthly challenges is under way and sees you taking charge at newly promoted Hull City. Can you take them to the same heights as reality in the Premier League or will fare as many expected before the season commenced. If you would be interested in taking part in this challenge and getting yourself on the leaderboard showing off your managerial skills. The rules can be found here.

That is not all as RGE and Hayesie are planning to run several AI Experiments. The first of these run by Hayesie is 'Wenger's Talent Spotting' this experiment focuses on the Arsenal managers trend of buying young future starlets as opposed to big name players. Wenger has been put in control of Hull City (The highest average aged squad in the Premier League) to see if he continues the tradition of buying young foreign stars or abandons it looking to get instant success with the West Yorkshire side. The main objectives of these AI experiments is to see if Football Manager relates to trends and traditions of real life football, in the way of transfers, manager and manager to player relationships and player development.

If you want to get away from all the serious stuff you can visit our off-topic area for an enjoyable laid-back experience discussing anything from legendary Youtube clips to Celebrity Big Brother. We also have a Time-Wasters section for games such as 'Guess The Player' and 'This or That'. So if you want to be part of our friendly easygoing community then feel free to sign up and be part of the rise of The Gaffer in 2009.
