joe777330
OK i am middlesbrough my local club well someone has to and my youngster has picked up a serious viral infection . I have never seen this before so how do you get it on FM and how rare is it. Also why does he heal quicker sent home then seeing a specilist?
brightonrock
It is one of the rarest injuries/illnesses in the game but it can potentially be career threatening. It will likely leave him out for an entire season, I have had a player out for 14 months with a viral infection before. DEFINITELY send him home as the illness is contagious and if it spreads through your squad you could absolutely ruin an entire season for yourself. Wiitastic
oh dear i sent him to specilist oops either way is fine, usually sending someone to a specialist will mean they are out for a tiny fraction less time than if you send him home. How long does it say on his player profile that he is out for ?
Gandy
Could be similar to this ..
markyosullivan
I think I've seen it happen once out of all my FM11 saves so far.
Leishy1995
My mate had a youth player break into his first team, started netting goals then suffered this, never came back the same, attributes down and never reached the potential he could have before dropping down to the Scottish Football leagues. SCIAG
Fortunately, it is very rare.

SCIAG
Wow. Did he have HIV? The mystery "virus" isn't specified, but it essentially includes HIV, yes. It is simply easier (in terms of programming- only one serious virus instead of a few dozen) and more sensitive to not name it as any specific virus. jackripper
Darren Fletcher going through the same thing apparantly.
Wellmade
Ross McCormack had a mystery virus while at Motherwell. Not exactly sure what caused it but the fans at the time couldn't decide if it was Lazyitis or Manageritis. Could have been the latter as he was cured about the same time the manager left. Not that I am trying to say the OP's man management skills are bad or anything. :o:o

SCIAG
Wow, I was kidding. I know you were kidding. You were essentially right, though, HIV is a serious viral infection (people who have a player come down with this often say "no virus would keep someone out for that long..."). Unknown Hacker
I miss the days when players would spend a month out after consulting their faith healer... But I have only ever seen one of these viruses. Was Rickie Lambert I believe. Ruined his career...
Boltman
I've always thought (as SCIAG describes) this was intended as a catch-all for the multitude of various non-injury illnesses which people, including footballers, can suffer from. Check for example Morten Wieghorst, who missed more than a year of his career after developing Guillain-Barré syndrome. While that's not a viral infection in itself, it can be triggered by becoming infected, and it's an example of an illness serious enough to make someone completely unable to play football for an extended period, yet come back after making a recovery. Players have also missed time due to treatment for cancers etc, although I doubt that was what was intended by 'viral infection'.
snootyjim
I remember in CM 01/02 players could undergo chemo, although I've never seen it in any of the FM games so I'm presuming it was removed.
Bradley21
Whenever i hear about the "serious viral infection" i always remember the time on FML when Richard Tebbutt (who was super admin and lead moderator at the time) came into the game and manually gave a guys full team a 2week long viral infection injury, it was amazing! The guy was cheating with a multiple account and mucking up a league for everyone else though, so it was all fair! As for on FM11, ive only seen it once, some swedish regen i signed got it when he was 19, was out for about a year. When he came back he got pretty decent still but i always wondered how good he may have gotten without that injury
dannyxx20
duncan or darren fletcher, whatever his name is!! anyway he is currently out with a viral infection, he'll be back in about 3 months so would've been out for about 6 or 7 months irl, apart from 1 game just before the champs league final
