18Rabbit's Zero to Hero Experiment

Recommended Posts

The Experiment

This an experiment to test and track the development of a group of unknown, 14 year old wonderkids from the lowest ranks of the English 11th divisions to see where they wind up and track their development by the AI and see how their stats, positional training and preferred moves progress. I have some doubts that even starting at age 14 that some of these players will reach their potential, but we shall see.

The Game

FM2011, DB 11.3. I will be running the game in vacation mode as a manager for a random division 9 team. If I get fired (which I probably will) I'll start a new manager and take over the same team. This is mainly to facilitate the use of shortlists to keep track of everyone.

The Database

I will be using the "FM2011 to Level 11 build 2.02" database from RTC's English National League System Update - Taking FM11 to Level 11 as the basis for the experiment. I also loaded the premiere divisions for the following countries but set them to "View Only": France, Germany, Italy, N. Ireland, Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Wales.

The Players

Players were created at age 14 with the following basic attributes:

  • Reputations all 1 - They have basically walked in off the street as total unknowns.
  • Current Ability = 10 - They played FIFA on Xbox once or twice
  • Potential Ability = 185 - Superstars around the skill of Xavi or Rooney
  • They were randomly assigned to different U18 squads from Division 11 teams in England with 4 year youth contracts (unless the participants picked a different one)

The Sign-Ups

The following statistics were set by me:

Player Nationality - English

Second Nationality - None

D.O.B. - 01 June 1996 (making sure each player had just turned 14 upon the experiments start)

Contract/length - 4 year youth contract at a Division 11 club

Place of birth - set to the town/city where their club plays

Current Ability - 10

Potential Ability - 185

Hidden attribute Injury Proneness will be set to 3

Attributes picked by the players:

First Name, Last Name

Up to 3 Positions - (positions will be set to 20, 15 and 10 respectively so put your primary first)

Preferred foot (main foot set to 20, weaker foot set to 10): Left or Right

2 player attributes to set to 11

3 player attributes to set to 10

2 player attributes to set to 8

3 hidden player attributes to select and set to any number

(All other attributes were generated by the engine)

Preferred Division 11 Club

I will be keeping track of significant milestones like first player with an international appearance, first player with a first team goal and records along those lines so we can cheer each other on. My hunch is that this will start out slow and then get more interesting after the first couple of seasons.

Starting Notes

When the game was generated, all of the 14 year old players were moved from the U18 teams up to the first team squads. Jim Bowman actually started with a salaried youth contract ($8/wk). Most of the kids are listed as part of the starting first team squad and all of them but one (Eighteen Rabbit) are listed as Key Players as their squad status. Another thing I noticed is that many of the stats I set in the editor before the game was started were not implemented. For example: Stats I set to 11 often came out as 7 in the game. I'll list the picked stats and actual values below for each player along with any specific notes for them.

A quick note about the Max CA values, they seem to be fixed at a set value + the starting CA of 10. Every one who has improved in current ability has seen an identical rise in Max CA (so if CA is 16 now, their Max CA has gone up by 6 also). This value is from FM Genie scout so I'm not sure what it's based on.

As of January 1, 2011 here are the current stats and notes on each player (max values are from FM Genie Scout):

    Notes:
The worst maximum CA potential of anyone in the experiment based on his 1 star advancement rate, I'm very curious to see how he develops as his CA inches upwards. In spite of that he still has over a 7 average playing ST and is the leading goal scorer of the grou with 6 goals in 19 apps.

    Notes:
Anomalous because he's provisionally agreed to sign a $8 p/w profession contract on 6/1/2013. He's the first player to agree to a contract with a club. He also has 20 first team starting apps as ST only missing 2 games. Avg rating is 6.76 and only 2 goals. Second highest reputation 296. Also the only player with a value > 0 ($250).

19 apps with the worst avg in the group 6.56. Got suspended once and then has gone back and forth with being selected or benched. His highest game rating was 6.80 so he's fairly consistently average.
  24. B. Rick Wall (GK) - Penryn Athletic - CA 12, Max CA 107
    Positions - GK (20)
Preferred foot: Left (20), Right (10)
Picked Attributes in order - current value (max value)
    Command of Area - 9 (13)
    Agility - 9 (10)
    Reflexes - 8 (12)
    Composure - 8 (8)
    Acceleration - 8 (10)
    Anticipation - 6 (10)
    Influence - 7 (12)
    Best Stats
    Arial Ability 12, Bravery 12, Fitness 12
    Notes:
Best keeper rating with 17 apps and 7.08 rating and leads in number of shutouts with 6. He's played in every match and seems like he's doing pretty good in spite of having pretty average attributes.

Ok, now that the huge wall of text is over, here are some pretty pictures.

And with that, I'm off to bed. We'll see you all at the end of the season!

If there are any specific stats that you'd like me to track, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Well, it's now June 1st and everyone is now 15. Fortunately Division 11 are the lowest teams in the DB so there is no regulation from Div 11 so I didn't have to worry about that. Here's how the players and teams wound up. This is just a quick update, I'll do more later. In general it looks like some of the player stats have gone up kind of like the CA did where the minimum and the maximum both have gone up. For now, here is where each team finished in their division

Two of our clubs got promoted so Eighteen Rabbit and Miloš Marić will be playing in Division 10 this upcoming season. A few others were close to promotion, as the kids grow up they may make the difference to push their teams over the top. As of right now, no other clubs are listed as being interested in any of the youngsters but I imagine this will change as their reputations grow.

Here are my overall choices for players of the year:

Keeper of the year: Kenny Meredith - Fewest against and most shutouts, pretty clear choice.

Defender of the year: Danny Facey - he's had great ratings all year and is an arial beast in front of the net. Korban Dallas is a close second.

Midfielder of the year: Fyre Mahn - 14 MoM's, a whopping 18 assists and even managed 2 goals of his own.

Forward of the year: Jim Bowman - 11 goals and 12 assists, he makes goals happen whether he's shooting them or setting someone else up for them.

Great to see I'm featuring high in the rankings, suprised I wasn't named defender of the year despite having the highest average rating.

KUTGW Rabbit.

Defender was a close race, with you, Korbin and Danny all being pretty great.

Today's work is done. I have uploaded a spreadsheet to Google docs that contains all of the stats for all of the players in the experiment at two specific data points, January 1st, 2011 and June 1st, 2011. I'll keep this updated every 6 months to track stat progression. The first page will track CA progress and the total stat delta at each data point.

For example:

Name 7/6/10 1/1/11 1/6/11
CA	Max CA	CA	Max CA	CA	Max CA	Stat Delta
Alonso, Adam	10	130	16	136	23	143	12

Adam's CA has gone from 16 to 23 and he has gained a net of 12 stat points in that same period.

Anyway, here's the link to the spreadsheet. I'll edit the OP and put it in there as well:

Zero To Hero Stat Progression Spreadsheet

NOTE: Each player has their own tab along the bottom to track each of their stat progressions separately.

Here's the update for January 1, 2012

The Zero To Hero Stat Progression Spreadsheet has been updated with the latest stats.

Player Notes

Two players have advanced enough that they should be able to reach their max CA of 185: Fyre Mahn and Ben Talbott.

Almost all teams changed divisions due to some anomalies with the FM2011 to 11 DB that I had nothing to do with (like South Liverpool has moved from the Liverpool Country Premier league to the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division (a different Div 11 league)). Overall I don't expect this to have much impact since they have all been lateral moves, but it is odd and worth noting.

  1. Adam Alonso (M/AM ©) - Chipping Sodbury Town (6th) - CA 31, Max CA 151
20 apps as MC with an average of 7.11 with two goals, off to a good start this season.
  2. Jules Barry (ST) - South Liverpool (1st)- CA 37, Max CA 173
13 apps with a 7.25 average. Leading the goal chart at mid-season with 8 goals and 4 assists. South Liverpool is on target for promotion this season.
  3. Luke Bilgewater (AM ©, ST) - Blunham (16th) - CA 10, Max CA (47)
Luke Bilgewater has changed from a "Key Player" to a "Backup" and has also seen fewer appearances than last year. Blunham isn't having a good season and is currently in last position in their division. Luke's stat growth is anemic.
  4. Jim Bowman (AM ®, ST) - Basildon United (8th) - CA 28, Max CA 132
16 apps as ST with 7.03 average. Managed to pick up a red card but having a fairly good season this year. Currently in 3rd on the goal count with 6 goals and 4 assists.
  5. Nikolas Clemence (M ©, ST) - Hannakins Farm (2nd) - CA 31, Max CA 146
Having an excellent season in their new Div 11 league, Hannakins is a contender for promotion this year. Nikolas has managed 7 goals and 7 assists in 15 apps and has maintained an impressive 7.91 average. Really having an excellent season. Strangely he wasn't selected for the first 5 games of the season but has played every game since then.
  6. Matthew Cooper (D/WB (L)) - Team Solent (15th) - CA 25, Max CA 161
Matthew is having a rocky season, appearing 8 times as DL and twice as DR with an overall average of 7.27. He suffered a lower back stress fracture early on and was out for 8 weeks and has racked up 7 yellow cards and 1 red in the other games, being suspended twice. This may be frustration from feeling that his team isn't living up to its potential.
  7. Glenn Crane (DM, M ©) - Crane Sports (3rd) - CA 31, Max CA 185
Glenn is doing okay with 16 apps as MC with a 7.09 average. Hasn't been a permanent fixture of the first team but is seeing regular play. Is one of the first players to show in Genie Scout that he can reach his full potential of 185. His team is a contender for promotion in their new division.
  8. Korben Dallas (SW, D ©) - Gondolphin Atlantic (10th) - CA 27, Max CA 128
19 apps as a DC with a 7.72 average. Another pretty good season for Korben with one of the highest averages in the league and just trailing Danny Facey for headers again. Also has managed a goal and 3 assists as a DC. Even with his club in a new league, they're still doing about the same as last season and are pretty far out for promotion contention.
  9. Rustam Daminov (M/AM ©) - Mousehole (4th) - CA 31, Max CA 121
19 apps as MC with a 6.98 average. Having another "yeah, he's pretty decent" season for Moushole. 1 goal, 6 assists and 1 MoM. Moushole is doing fairly well overall, may be able to get promoted, maybe.
  10. Jefferson De Marisco (M ©, ST) - AFC Aldermaston (1st) - CA 29, Max CA 135
12 apps as MC with 6.75 average. Not having a particularly good season though he's "pleased to be at a successful club". Started out with a sprained ankle so he missed a couple of early matches and recently got suspended for yellow card accrual. His team is doing well in their new division and may secure promotion.
  11. Phill Ewles (ST) - Singh Sabha (16th) - CA 26, Max CA 168
Not having such a good time in the new league, 16 apps as ST with an average of 6.66. Thinks that the team is not living up to it's potential. 5 goals and 1 assist for the year so far, so... meh. Part of the problem may be Singh Sabha's struggle in the new division that they are in, they are currently in last place and haven't won a game yet. 0-7-8.
  12. Danny Facey (D (RC)) - Flitwick Town (7th) - CA 32, Max CA 155
16 apps as DC with a 7.44 average with 5 assists. Having a pretty good season but not quite as good as last year. This is one team that didn't change divisions. Still rocking the headers though winning 85% of them.
  13. Cuddle Fish (GK) - Blofield United (5th) - CA 40, Max CA 183
15 apps with a 6.71 average. Earned a red card mid-season. Having a fairly lackluster season. 15 allowed and 5 shutouts
  14. David Ginsberg (AM ©, ST) - Rothwell Athletic (18th) - CA 33, Max CA 183
Rothwell is not enjoying life in their laterally move, dropped from 2nd last season to dead last this season. David has had 18 apps with 6.89 average. Laying 5th on the goal chart with 5 goals and 5 assists.
  15. Przemyslaw Leszkiewiczski (WB/M ®) - Gas Recreation (4th) - CA 31, Max CA 136
The Mad Pollack is on track for another interesting season racking up 8 yellow and 3 red cards in the first half of the season and yet still maintaining a 7.30 average when he isn't suspended. Managed 1 goal and 4 assists also. Gas Rec stayed in the same league and are on track for a high end finish, maybe promotion contenders.
  16. Fyre Mahn (M/AM ©) - Alresford Colne Rangers (3rd) - CA 38, Should be able to max at 185 CA now.
Having some of the best personal development, gaining 38 stat points in the last 12 months, he's having a good season. 15 apps as MC with a 7.61 average with 4 goals and 7 assists. On track for another great season.
  17. Machio Mann (M/AM ©) - Warstone Wanderers (4th) - CA 33, Max CA 170
15 apps as MC with a 7.29 average. Having a pretty good season and scored a few times from the midfield with 5 goals and 3 assists. His club is in 4th but probably not a promotion contender
  18. Miloš Marić (M/AM (L)) - Knutsford (10st) - CA 34, Max CA 145 (Division 10)
After being promoted last season, Knutsford is sitting comfortably in mid-table in their new division. The new league compeition hasn't hurt Miloš much, he's had 16 apps as ML with a 7.29 average. He has a pending contract offer from Knutsford which would make him the second player in the group to go legit and stop working for free. Though being listed as a key player, he's appeared in a little over half of the games this season. He also has 4 goals and 4 assists.
  19. Kenny Meredith (GK) - South Liverpool (1st) - CA 18, Max CA 76
In spite of his anemic growth rate, he's on track for Keeper of the year again, conceding only 11 goals in 13 games with 9 shutouts. Overall he's made 13 apps with a 7.35 average and has picked up 6 MoM awards. With two wonderkids on the South Liverpool team, maybe they can get promoted this year
  20. Eighteen Rabbit (D ©, DM) - Uckfield Town U18s - CA 33, Max CA 145 (Division 10)
Eighteen Rabbit has changed from "Backup" to a "Hot Prospect" and moved back to the U18s for Uckfield seeing only 2 starting appearances and 2 subs in league play. Still doing ok overall, has a 7.21 average.
  21. Ruby Rhod (D/WB (L)) - Greenways (8th) - CA 31, Max CA 182
Experiencing good personal growth, almost reaching his max CA limit, he's had 14 apps as DL with an average of 7.08 overall. Played regularly after being left on the bench for the first few games and one suspension for a red card. Overall a pretty nondescript season.
  22. Ben Talbott (M/AM (L), ST) - Lutterworth (10th) - CA 35, Max CA 185
Lutterworth didn't shift leagues though maybe it would have been better for them if they had. Ben has had a good season with 14 apps as ML with a 7.31 average and one game as a ST where he rated an impressive 9.30. He has 5 goals and 7 assists for the season and feels that Lutterworth is not living up to its potential. This has caused some frustration it seems as he has racked up two red cards recently and spent several games under suspension.
  23. King Tikki-Man (DM, M ©) - Swanage Town & Herston (11th) - CA 36, Max CA 151
Not having much of a season in their new lateral moved league, King has had 14 apps as MC with an average of 6.58 and 3 apps as DM with an even worse average of 6.43. Also feels that his team has potential that it isn't using, ironic from a man 120ish ability below his potential. Currently has the lowest average in the league.
  24. B. Rick Wall (GK) - Penryn Athletic (3rd) - CA 21, Max CA 116
Doing better in their new laterally moved league, though probably won't get promoted due to Wolverhampton Utd. kicking the tits out of everyone else in their division. Having a good season with 18 apps and a 7.31 average overall. Has been a better performer this year than last.

Seems my man, Bilgewater has no chance of success! Shame I have such a low CA, so much worse than the rest.

Yeah, he got shafted on creation. I have no idea what determines the advancement rate but he got boned. I'll be surprised if he breaks 100 CA before he retires.

I'll be adding reputations, ability and hidden attributes to the spreadsheet later. I need a nap now though. :)

Oh, and according to Genie Spy, Progress rate is determined by Age, Ambition, Professionalism and Determination. This explains why Luke is stuck at 10 CA since his ambition is 1 and his professionalism is 6. If I would have known that before had I would have considered a minimum cap on ambition at 5 or something but I'm ok leaving it as is for now and seeing what happens.

Well, it's now June 1st again, happy birthday and sweet 16. The new divisions were kind to some and cruel to others. Here are the final positions. I have also updated the spreadsheet with current CA's, stats and reputations for everyone. I'll post more details about how this season went for our intrepid youths tomorrow and start the next season.

Player's Team Notes

  1. Adam Alonso (M/AM ©) - Chipping Sodbury Town - 4th in Manchester Football League Premier Division - Division 11
  2. Jules Barry (ST) - South Liverpool (PROMOTED) - 1st in Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division - Division 11
  3. Luke Bilgewater (AM ©, ST) - Blunham - 14th in Bedfordshire Football League Premier Division (2nd from the bottom) - Division 11
  4. Jim Bowman (AM ®, ST) - Basildon United - NOTE: Apparently in the division mixup from the weird DB, Basildon got promoted to Div 9. 11th of 17 in Essex Senior League - Division 9, not too bad overall
  5. Nikolas Clemence (M ©, ST) - Hannakins Farm - 2nd in Kent Country League Division One West - Division 11. SOOO close for Hannakins Farm, lost promotion to Tudor Sports by 3 points
  6. Matthew Cooper (D/WB (L)) - Team Solent - 16th of 17 in Northern Football Alliance Premier League - Division 11. Owch
  7. Glenn Crane (DM, M ©) - Crane Sports - 9th of 16 in Staffordshire Senior League Premier Division - Division 11
  8. Korben Dallas (SW, D ©) - Gondolphin Atlantic - 6th in Hampshire Premier Division - Division 11. Solid mid-table finish.
  9. Rustam Daminov (M/AM ©) - Mousehole - 3rd in Hertfordshire Senior Premier Division - Division 11. Murdered by Wolverhampton Utd. Strong contender for promotion next season against AFC Wombourne Utd.
  10. Jefferson De Marisco (M ©, ST) - AFC Aldermaston - 2nd in East Berkshire Premier Division - 2 points off of promotion. Beaten by The 61 FC.
  11. Phill Ewles (ST) - Singh Sabha - 16th in Peterborough & District League Premier Division - Division 11. Would have been regulated if any lower leagues were loaded in the DB.
  12. Danny Facey (D (RC)) - Flitwick Town - 5th in Bedfordshire Football League Premier Division - Division 11. Uh... with Blunham which is Luke Bilgewater's team.
  13. Cuddle Fish (GK) - Blofield United - 4th in Liverpool County Premier League Premier Division - Division 11. 10 points off of the leader but only 2 points from 2nd place, should be a good season next year.
  14. David Ginsberg (AM ©, ST) - Rothwell Athletic - 14th of 20 in Wearside Football League - Division 11.
  15. Przemyslaw Leszkiewiczski (WB/M ®) - Gas Recreation - 6th in Essex and Suffolk Border Premier Division - Division 11
  16. Fyre Mahn (M/AM ©) - Alresford Colne Rangers - 3rd in Northamptonshire Combination Premier Division- Division 11 - 2 points shy of promotion, definite contenders for next season
  17. Machio Mann (M/AM ©) - Warstone Wanderers - 12th in Midland Football Combination Division One - Division 11.
  18. Miloš Marić (M/AM (L)) - Knutsford - 7th in Sussex County League Division 2 - Division 10. Solid mid-table finish after being promoted last season.
  19. Kenny Meredith (GK) - South Liverpool - (PROMOTED) - 1st in Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division - Division 11
  20. Eighteen Rabbit (D ©, DM) - Uckfield Town - 2nd in Kent County Premier Division - Division 10. After being promoted last season they were 5 points shy of doing back to back promotions. Solid contenders for next season.
  21. Ruby Rhod (D/WB (L)) - Greenways - 7th in East Berkshire Premier Division - Division 11
  22. Ben Talbott (M/AM (L), ST) - Lutterworth - 9th in Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division - Division 11. Mid-table
  23. King Tikki-Man (DM, M ©) - Swanage Town & Herston - 10th in Northamptonshire Combination Premier Division - Division 11, same division as Fyre Mahn
  24. B. Rick Wall (GK) - Penryn Athletic - 5th in Hertfordshire Senior Premier Division - Division 11. Same division that Rustam's team is in.

Somehow Flitwick Town and Blunham, Alresford Rangers and Swanage Town and Penryn Athletic and Mousehole wound up in the same Division 11 divisions with each other, this DB has some weirdness in its promotion/transition tables. This put it a little more head-to-head this season.

The weirdest thing was seeing that Jim Bowman and Basildon United just skipped the whole "needing to get promoted" thing and gave Division 11 and 10 a miss and went straight to a Division 9 league.

Here's the player update for June 1, 2012

The Zero To Hero Stat Progression Spreadsheet is up to date.

Player Notes

Two more players players have advanced enough that they should be able to reach their max CA of 185: Glen Crane and David Ginsberg.

For the upcoming season we have 1 team in Division 9 due to an anomaly with the DB, 3 teams in Division 10 from promotion and the remainder in Division 11.

  1. Adam Alonso (M/AM ©) - Chipping Sodbury Town - CA 38
31 apps as MC with a 7.15 average. Has been a significant player this season, leading the group in assists with 17 and 7 MoM's.
  2. Jules Barry (ST) - South Liverpool - CA 40
Helped get South Liverpool promoted this year. Lead the group in goals this year with 11 and a 7.05 average. Didn't play in the last 3 games of the season though.
  3. Luke Bilgewater (AM ©, ST) - Blunham - CA 10
Poor Luke, still stuck with CA 10. Still listed as a backup player for Blunham in their difficult Division 9 league. 14 apps with a 6.96 average, managed 5 goals and 1 assist and 1 MoM
  4. Jim Bowman (AM ®, ST) - Basildon United - CA 34
25 apps as ST with 6.98 average. Got a whopping 4 game suspension at the end of the season for a red card. Managed 4 goals and 3 assists. Holds lots of records for his team and league for goals and assists and average rating.
  5. Nikolas Clemence (M ©, ST) - Hannakins Farm - CA 36
Had another bang up season, second overal with his average rating of 7.84, 10 goals and 13 assists in 25 apps. He does something great almost every game and winning MoM in 53% of the games he's played (15)
  6. Matthew Cooper (D/WB (L)) - Team Solent - CA 31
Picked up another red card and periodically left on the bench. Played 11 of 20 matches but his average was very good this year 7.51 with 3 goals and 6 assists. Got 7 MoM's for those games too.
  7. Glenn Crane (DM, M ©) - Crane Sports - CA 40
A pretty good season for Glenn. 28 apps with a 7.14 average. Out for a few matches with a twisted knee. 1 goal and 11 assists
  8. Korben Dallas (SW, D ©) - Gondolphin Atlantic - CA 31
A season to be happy with, third highest average in the group at 7.76 with 30 apps. Even managed 1 goal and 5 assists as a DC. Picked up the most MoM awards of the group, 17. Second behind Danny again for headers and tackles.
  9. Rustam Daminov (M/AM ©) - Mousehole - CA 37
Improved season for Rustam, made 33 apps with an average of 7.05 picking up 3 goals and 13 assists with 5 MoM awards.
  10. Jefferson De Marisco (M ©, ST) - AFC Aldermaston - CA 35
Had a decent season and is developing well. Still playing mainly as MC with an average of 6.83 (seems to do much better as a ST). 1 goal, 7 assists.
  11. Phill Ewles (ST) - Singh Sabha - CA 30
Singh Sabha has struggled this season and came in last in their division. In spite of this and in spite of only appearing in 6 of 20 of their matches, Phil lead his team in goals. They'd probably do better if they actually played him. He also picked up a suspension and was out for 5 weeks with a twisted ankle. Good news is that they can only go up from here.
  12. Danny Facey (D (RC)) - Flitwick Town - CA 37
30 apps with a 7.47 average, another great season for Danny. 6 assists and 11 MoM awards. Leads the groups in tackles per match at 5.04 and still rocking the aerial with 189 headers won (85%).
  13. Cuddle Fish (GK) - Blofield United - CA 40
His stats have been growing well and is still the starting GK. 30 apps with a 6.82 average. Second in the group for concessions with 25 and tied for first in shutouts with 11. Also managed a red card with a 1 game suspension.
  14. David Ginsberg (AM ©, ST) - Rothwell Athletic - CA 38
Had a decent season, 27 apps as ST with 6.92 average. 8 goals and 8 assists with 3 MoM. Played in about half of the games he was eligible for. Top goalscorer for the league this year.
  15. Przemyslaw Leszkiewiczski (WB/M ®) - Gas Recreation - CA 36
The Mad Pollack had another good season racking up 14 yellow cards and 4 reds. Oh wait, I mean he had 3 goals and 6 assists with 7 MoM. Geeting a 7.35 average in 29 games. He's a good player in spite of being a brute.
  16. Fyre Mahn (M/AM ©) - Alresford Colne Rangers - CA 40
Had another good year with 26 apps, 5 goals and 12 assists and 12 MoM awards and a 7.58 average. Shaping up to be quite a player. Almost got promoted this year. Was the top goalscorer for the team... playing as a center mid.
  17. Machio Mann (M/AM ©) - Warstone Wanderers - CA 40
27 apps with a 7.27 rating. Solid performer in spite of his teams fairly meh season. 6 goals and 3 assists with 5 MoM. Top goalscorer for the league.
  18. Miloš Marić (M/AM (L)) - Knutsford - CA 40
Solid performance in his teams new Division 10 league. 21(3) apps with 4 goals, 6 assists and 6 MoM. and an average rating of 7.24. He has been offered a contract with Knutsford. Only played 9 of 20 matches, they really should play him more.
  19. Kenny Meredith (GK) - South Liverpool - CA 23
Growing slow but still keeping the ball out of his own net. Helped get South Liverpool promoted this year. Conceeded only 11 goals in 21 apps and 11 shutouts. Picked up an impressive 9 MoM awards with a 7.33 average. Considering a contract offer from South Liverpool.
  20. Eighteen Rabbit (D ©, DM) - Uckfield Town U18s - CA 40
Uckfield loves friendlies apparently. Had 14 competitive apps and 20 noncompetitive. Had the highest average in his league apps with an impressive 7.89. 8 assists and 6 MoM. Also the highest pass completion percentage at 75%.
  21. Ruby Rhod (D/WB (L)) - Greenways - CA 36
Decent season with 23 apps, 1 goal and 2 assists with an average of 7.07. Nothing outstanding but decent. Record for worst discipline on his team this year, 8 yellow and 1 red.
  22. Ben Talbott (M/AM (L), ST) - Lutterworth - CA 40
Inspired by the Mad Pollack, Ben racked up 10 yellow cards and 2 reds, but also maintained a 7.33 average over 27 apps. Scored 7 goals and got 9 assists with 8 MoM awards. I'd actually like to see them on the same team. Lutterworth won the Liechestershire County FA Jelson Holmes Senior Cup this year
  23. King Tikki-Man (DM, M ©) - Swanage Town & Herston - CA 40
Another season at the bottom of the average list for the King. He's developing well, just not playing well. 28 apps with an average of 6.63. 1 goal, 6 assists.
  24. B. Rick Wall (GK) - Penryn Athletic - CA 27
Had the second highest average among the keepers with 30 apps, 7.28. Conceded 29 goals and 9 shutouts. Was out for 12 days with a strained wrist.

Additional Notes:

Going through the squads that the players are on I noticed that Knutsfort and Uckfield went semiprofessional on 6/25/2011.

One team is in Division 9, 2 are in Division 10 (with one promoted to Div 10 for next season) and the rest are still in Division 11.

Here are my overall choices for players of the year:

Keeper of the year: Kenny Meredith - Fewest against and most shutouts, pretty clear choice. Better than last year's performance.

Defender of the year: Korben Dallas - While Eighteen Rabbit had some better stats, he also only had 14 "real" games. Korben is playing good, solid defense all year long.

Midfielder of the year: It's a close race between Fyre Mahn and Adam Alonso, but I think I have to go with Mahn again. They're both turning into great midfielders.

Forward of the year: Nikolas Clemence - Clear winner this year, 10 goals, 13 assists, 15 MoM and a huge 7.84 average He had a great year.

I've already simmed the 1st half of the 2013 season and have noticed that everyone is being capped at CA 40, Home reputation 1799 and world rep 400. Not sure if that's capped by age or club or what. Not sure when those ceilings will break.

Glad to see Machio Mann is grabbing his goals :). I'm a bit envious of Fyre Mahn's 16 flair. I was really hoping for a high flair attribute when I made him but he still got a decent 12 so he could still become a good AMC in the future. Also good to see his low bravery has already increased a bit from 4 to 5. I like how his teamwork and sportsmanschip have turned out. At 7 and 5 they fit his name well :p.

I really like this experiment and watching these growth tendencies of youngsters and how they preform.

The Zero To Hero Statistics Spreadsheet has been updated as of January 1, 2013. More and more players are stuck at 40 CA, some people have had several statistics drop. I'm not sure what will get them out of this pit, their reputations seem to be capped as well. There are younger players in the DB with better CA's and one even with a PA of 200 (nice regen) so I'm not sure what the issue is.

So...

We'll see how it goes, if all of the players stagnate and die, I'll run some other tests and see about restarting it with a modified setup.

Maybe they get capped because they can't learn anything anymore at their current club. It could also be an age restriction which caps their CA.

There are younger players with higher CA in the database (regens) but they're on all star teams. It may be restricted by the reputation of the league or team since most of these are pretty similar.

I finished simming the 2012/2013 season. Spoiler, someone gets promoted to Division 9 legitimately. More details to come.

Since development has stagnated, I'm pushing the seasons through a little faster to see if they can break the glass CA ceiling.

Here are the year end stats for the 2012/2013 Season.

The Zero To Hero Stat Progression Spreadsheet is up to date.

Player Notes

Most everyone is now capped at 40 CA, 400 world rep and 1799 home rep.

  1. Adam Alonso (M/AM ©) - Chipping Sodbury Town - 5th in Manchester Football League Premier Division
29 apps with a 7.14 average. Good form again this year but stuck under the CA cap.
  2. Jules Barry (ST) - South Liverpool - 2nd in Sussex County League Division 2
Almost got promoted straight to Division 9, having two wonderkids is helping them out considerably though they were 9 points off of the league winner.
36 apps with a 6.97 average. Considering a contract offer from South Liverpool, had a great year for goals even if his form was somewhat lacking.
  3. Luke Bilgewater (AM ©, ST) - Blunham - 7th in Bedforshire
Luke barely played this season, 5 appearances all fairly mediocre. Still stuck with his 10 CA.
  4. Jim Bowman (AM ®, ST) - Basildon United - 15th in Essex Senior League
Avoided Regulation but not by much of a margin. Made 31 apps as ST (7.01) and 5 apps as MR (7.70). Good form but not many goals to show for it this year. Basildon struggled in their Div 9 league this year.
  5. Nikolas Clemence (M ©, ST) - Hannakins Farm - 4th in Kent County League Divsion One East
Another good season for Clemence, 26 apps as ST with a 7.77 average.
  6. Matthew Cooper (D/WB (L)) - Team Solent - 9th in Northern Football Alliance Premier League
Cooper did a good job dragging his team reluctantly up from the bottom of the table to a mid-table finish this year. 26 apps as DL with 7.77 average.
  7. Glenn Crane (DM, M ©) - Crane Sports - (PROMOTED) 1st in Staffordshire Senior League
Crane had a good year and so did his team. Crane was the lead goal scorer for his team this season (as MC). 30 apps with a 7.15 average.
  8. Korben Dallas (SW, D ©) - Gondolphin Atlantic - 11th in Hampshire Premier Division
Had a good year but got suspended for 2 games near the end of the season and then wasn't selected for the remainder. Also broke his hip and is now expected to be out for 6 - 7 months. Owch.
  9. Rustam Daminov (M/AM ©) - Mousehole - 6th in Hertfordshire Senior Premier Division
Rustam didn't have the best season, 27 apps as MC with a 6.68 average. Picked up a 4 game suspension for a red card near the end of the season.
  10. Jefferson De Marisco (M ©, ST) - AFC Aldermaston -11th in East Berkshire Premier Division
Personally had a pretty decent season but his team struggled. 18 apps as MC with an average of 6.79. Feels that the team isn't living up to their potential.
  11. Phill Ewles (ST) - Singh Sabha - 4th in Reading Football League
Singh Sabha changed leagues again, to their advantage. They still were pretty far off from promotion but they were solidly at the top of the mid-table finishers. Phil only had 7 appearances as ST with an average of 6.94 because he was out for the first 10 games of the season with a broken leg. Hopefully they can push through this year.
  12. Danny Facey (D (RC)) - Flitwick Town - 9th in Bedfordshire Football League
Finished just behind Blunham this season. Danny Facey had another good season making 27 apps with a 7.40 average. Missed 5 matches due to a hernia.
  13. Cuddle Fish (GK) - Blofield United -3rd in Liverpool County Premier League
A mediocre season for all of the keepers, 33 apps with 6.73 average.
  14. David Ginsberg (AM ©, ST) - Rothwell Athletic - 7th in Essex and Suffolk Border Premier Division
David could have done better. 26 apps with a rating of 6.77. He's happy with where the club finished this season.
  15. Przemyslaw Leszkiewiczski (WB/M ®) - Gas Recreation - 8th in Essex and Suffolks Border Premier Division
Apparently now in the same division as Rothwell. Snuggled up next to them in the mid-table. The Mad Pollack was a little calmer this season, only racking up 11 yellows and 3 reds and kept the same average from last season. 2 goals and 7 assists. Currently on a 4 game suspension.
  16. Fyre Mahn (M/AM ©) - Alresford Colne Rangers - 4th in Northampton Town League
Fyre didn't have as good of a season as he did last year. Only 14 apps as MC with an average of 7.31 mainly due to injuries. He was out for 4 weeks with a pulled hamstring and then another 5 months with a hip injury. Hopefully next season he'll recover and be back in form.
  17. Machio Mann (M/AM ©) - Warstone Wanderers - 3rd in Midland Football Combination Division One
His team had good success and he was part of it. 29 apps as MC with an average of 7.07. Played primarily as a backup but played in every league match.
  18. Miloš Marić (M/AM (L)) - Knutsford - (PROMOTED) 1st in Carlsberg Premier Division
Miloš rocked the house this year with 11 goals and an incredible 19 assists. He's a huge part of his team getting promoted this season. 42 apps with a 7.33 average. Considering a contract offer from Knutsford.
  19. Kenny Meredith (GK) - South Liverpool -2nd in Sussex County League Division 2
Still the best keeper in the group but the gap has narrowed. 38 apps with a 7.18 average. Considering a contract from South Liverpool.
  20. Eighteen Rabbit (D ©, DM) - Uckfield Town - 6th in Kent Country Premier Divison
Rabbit finally proved himself enough to get his status changed from "Backup" to "First Team" Played in games that weren't just friendlies this year, 18 apps with a 7.41 average as DC.
  21. Ruby Rhod (D/WB (L)) - Greenways - 8th in East Berkshire Premier Division
Ruby was ok and not "Super green" as he would have preferred. 20 apps with a 7.06 average. Good form when he's not suspended.
  22. Ben Talbott (M/AM (L), ST) - Lutterworth - 9th in Leicestershire Senior League
Ben had a good season but not good enough to pull his team up past a mid-table finish. 21 apps as ML with a 7.15 average, 9 apps as ST with a 7.07 average. Feels the team is not living up to their potential.
  23. King Tikki-Man (DM, M ©) - Swanage Town & Herston - 6th in Northamptonshire Combination Premier Division
Another decidedly average season for the Tikki-Man. 28 apps as MC with a 6.69 rating. Needs to work on his form
  24. B. Rick Wall (GK) - Penryn Athletic - 17th in Hampshire Premier Division
Didn't finish last in their league, but close. Did get runner up in the Cornwell County FA Durning Lawerence Charity Cup but not much else to brag about this season.

Here are my overall choices for players of the year:

Keeper of the year: Kenny Meredith - Still performing well though the margin has narrowed this year. B. Wall has improved and Kenny had a more average year.

Defender of the year: Korben Dallas - 7.89 average and a huge 21 MoM awards for a DC, he's still at the top of the heap though Danny Facey is still right there.

Midfielder of the year: Wow, what a difference a year makes. Miloš Marić is the clear choice this year, 42 apps, third highest goal scorer (and he plays ML!) and killing on assists. Also one of the primary reasons that Knutsford got promoted to Division 9 this year.

Forward of the year: This was a tough year for the forwards award. Nikolas Clemence or Jules Barry, take your pick. Nikolas looked better doing it but Jules had a slightly better ratio of goals per match (.51 vs .50) and was playing in a higher division. Nikolas did also have 14 MoM awards so he should probably get it again this year but it was very close.
