Ratinho was an unused substitute as MVV cruised to an easy 3-0 win over Gemert in the Amstel Cup First Round. He will be hoping for some action in the second round.

Numancia travelled to Ceuta in a match that saw two OTF(A) players on opposing sides for the first time. Recent Cueta signing Tim Van Speybroeck was on the losing side as Angus MacGuyver's Numancia ran out one-nil victors. Van Speybroeck was substituted in the 61st minute, the same minute, ironically, that Numancia brought on MacGuyver.

Real Madrid used Taz Devil as a 71st minute substitute as they won 3-0 at U.D. Mérida in a friendly. Devil grabbed the assist on the third and final goal as he cut inside and laid Trashorras through on goal. Goals came from Trashorras, Celades and Christian Vieri.

Angus MacGuyver started in midfield as he played for Numancia U-18s away at Zaragoza U-18s in Group 1 of the Spanish U-18 league. He played a full 90 minutes but was completely inaffective as his side went down 2-0.

Also involved in U-18's action was Frank Appraisal as he took to the field for Getafe U-18s away at Sevilla U-18s, again in Group 1. Appraisal started in the centre of defence but was moved to left back for the start of the second half. He only last 20 minutes before he was dismissed for two bookable offences, OTF(A)'s first red card.

Fahd Hakeem was not selected in the matchday squad as Oberhausen won at St. Pauli in the DFB-Pokal 1st Round. Extra-time was needed but goals from Leandro Simioni in either half secured a 3-2 win.

Angus MacGuyver was in U-18 Cup action for Numancia U-18s as they hosted Racing U-18s and, again, was again selected in midfield. After a goalless first half, Numanica were hit on the break as Racing delivered a sucker punch to win the game 1-0.

Betis U-18s included Johnathon Bevington in their starting line-up in an attacking midfielder as they travelled to Tenerife U-18s in the U-18 Cup. In a dirty match, in which both sides saw a players dismissed, the scoreline read 1-1 as the game was forced into extra time. It was Tenerife who added to their tally and ran out 2-1 victors, with Bevington picking up a yellow card in the dying seconds.

Frank Appraisal was again selected for Getafe U-18s, this time at home to Real Sociedad U-18s in the U-18 Cup. Coming back after his red card in the previous game, Appraisal played a solid game as his team ran out 2-1 winners.

Nick Morgan made an appearance in the centre of three strikers as Darlington played an attacking 4-3-3 formation at home to League One Chesterfield in the Carling Cup First Round. Chesterfield were reduced to ten men in the first minute and missed a penalty in the first half as they crashed to a shock defeat. Morgan himself set up Wijnhard for the first goal before he was substituted in the 70th minute, and two more goals allowed Darlington to run out 3-0 winners.

Chris Nicol was part of a three-pronged attack as he played for Chelsea Reserves at home to Charlton Reserves. It was Charlton who led at half-time after an early penalty but, after Chelsea missed a penalty of their own, they extended their lead thanks to another penatly and Chelsea lost 2-0.

In a press statement today, Jolinho said

"Whilst many of the current crop of talented youngsters have signed with large continental clubs, I believe the best thing for me is to get regular football.

"There is no better club in the world than Montrose FC for me to start my career - I'm already looking forward to playing in front of that famous Links Park crowd@

It was CIS Cup First Round night in Scotland, which saw Jolinho make his Montrose debut at home to East Fife. He started on the left wing and after a decent enough first half, he was subsitituted after 61 minutes. He looked tired, but after a couple more weeks of training Jolinho will be able to last the pace. Without him, Montrose battled on and in extra-time, both sides scored to take it to penalties. Both sides were poor at penalty kicks, but Montrose scraped through 2-1 after 5 each and 1-1 after extra-time.

Also in action was Dougal McGuire, who was playing for Albion Rovers away at Berwick Rangers. McGuire was booked early on and never really 'recovered' from this set back and played a poor game before being substituted in the 67th minute. Berwick took the lead before half-time and Albion levelled before Berwick were reduced to ten men. Albion piled on the pressure but then received a red card of their own which allowed Berwick to pull further ahead. Albion got a consolation goal in the last minute but they crashed out by 3 goals to 2.

For the first time, we had two OTF'ers playing in the same side as Raith took on Clyde at home. Michael North was named in the centre of midfield and Timmy Newell was named outside of him on the left-wing, and was also named captain at just 16. Both played a full 90 minutes without doing anything other than being solid and this helped Raith to a comfortable 2-0 victory.
