Sam knocked on the door of Wolfgang's office, he was becoming thoroughly accustomed to these kind of non-football related meetings, it was what made his job so unique from other managers across the game. Not only did he have to worry about whether his team was winning week in week out, but also make sure that a far right extremists weren't about to kill him any time soon. It had been better recently, but the meetings still continued, so it never went away. Wolfgang was looking strangely pleased with himself, recently he'd been irritable and reclusive, Sam hadn't even seen him for over a week. The look of exhaustion and anxiety had not altogether disappeared, but had faded considerably.

"What's got you so happy all of a sudden?"

"Take a seat and I'll tell you"

Sam walked forward and sat down in the chair, he wondered what this was all about. Wolfgang didn't waste time in explaining.

"Now, I have it from some of my 'sources' that our problem will be taken care of in the next few months."

"Right.....first of all, how? And secondly, who are these 'sources'?"

"I can't tell you who they are, but believe me they are serious and so this information is 100% reliable, believe me I have checked everything. Basically, the 'organisation' that contacted me have obtained a document that is so scandalous it will bring the NPD down for good. They will lose 99% of their voters in an instant, it will be the end of them."

"What's in the document?"

"Remember the incident last December?"

"Yeah, but we couldn't prove.......................so that document is proof of their involvement? How?"

"It is a transcript from a conversation between two senior party members, confirming involvement of the NPD. This document will be released to the world media in the next few months."

"So that's it then?"

"Yep, that's it."

Wolfgang expected Sam to be rejoicing at this news, but the manager sat in quiet and serious thought.

"Well try and be a bit more happy about it!"

"Wolfgang doesn't one thing worry you?"

"What?"

"That if they go down, they'll take us with them?"

October 2012

Given the fact that our lead at the top of the league was only one point, it was important that we kept winning to keep up the pressure on the chasing pack. We did just that in fantastic style in our first match of October against Fluminense, who were one of the teams still in with a shout of challenging for the title. João Paulo, Juan Pinzon and Wellington were all on target, but that excludes a wonderful hat-trick from Pablo Correa. Rodrigo Tiui got the only goal for the visitors as Fluminense trooped back to Rio on the end of a 6-1 thumping.

There were plenty more goals in our next match against Cruzeiro, but unfortunately it did not lead to another three points. Moises got us off to a promising start when he converted an early penalty. But Cruzeiro soon hit back through veteran Chilean midfielder Claudio Maldonado. They went one better when João Pedro rounded Barbosa to give Raposa a 2-1 lead. Barely minutes later Maldonado, in what would be a man of the match performance, grabbed his second and suddenly we were two goals adrift at 3-1. But we weren't about to go down without a fight, we had a title to win after all. Wellington scored a crucial goal to send us in at the break 3-2 down. We managed to equalise not long after kick off when Pablo Correa tucked home a curling shot from 18 yards out. But it was all we could manage as we were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw.

We were soon back to winning ways, but it took a last minute free kick from Juliano to seal a 2-1 win against Gremio. Pedro Junior had put the visitors ahead before Wellington equalised. Juliano bending it round the wall and into the top right hand corner in stoppage time. How crucial that goal may be, remains to be seen. Juliano was once again the hero of the hour in our next game against Palmeiras. It took yet another sublime late free kick to win the game after the score was deadlocked at 1-1. João Paulo had given us a deserved lead but shkay defending allowed Quirino to slot home an equaliser. But the talented left winger was our saviour for the second time in succession as we won 2-1.

It would prove to be a third straight 2-1 victory when we welcomed Santos in our next game, but this time it was Juan Guillermo Pinzon who would rescue the three points. Whoshington had driven home the opener, but late on Luciano Sorriso had grabbed an equaliser. With just seven minutes remaining it fell to Colombian right winger to hit an audacious first time volley across the face of goal which cannoned off the upright and in. We took our run of victories to four against Bahia, but we were greatly helped by the home team having both David and Deivid sent off. Wellington and Juliano got the goals in a comfortable 2-0 win.

German far right party in chaos after incriminating document is procured by various media organisations

2nd November 2012

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe

The German Nationalist Party (NPD) has been left in tatters tonight after a document detailing orders to carry out murders and other offences on behalf of the party was obtained by various media organisations. It is thought that the document in question was initially obtained by either British or American security services and that it was then leaked to the media for mass worldwide exposure. However statements from both governments have denied any such action.

The NPD have been regarded as the biggest threat to peace and stability in Europe since the Nazi Party. They have recently enjoyed a surge of new voters and they have even taken new seats in the German Parliament. With that reputation comes wariness from the rest of the European community and therefore rumours of a media leak by intelligence services is the most popular theory behind this.

As for the document itself it contains transcripts, memos and even a sound recording of senior NPD politicians authorising, condoning and in some cases ordering a series of horrific crimes. Some include the party recent connection with Brazilian football side Hermann Aichinger, plots to kill the chairman and manager plus responsibilty for the helicopter crash that killed a dozen fans last December. Other eveidence includes orders for party members to organise groups of young right wing extremists to carry out anti-Semitic and racial attacks on the streets of Munich.

The German government has ordered that the party be disbanded and it is reported that there have already been numerous arrests. It remains to be seen whether anything can be salvaged from the wreckage that now is the German Nationalist Party. Probably not, it seems as though Europe has heeded previous lessons and has stamped out Fascism before it was allowed to take root once more. The NPD has raised questions about the document's authenticity, but an investigation into such claims is highly unlikely. Even if it were a fabrication, only a fool would deny the NPD's involvement in said events, even without proof. The White House and Downing Street will probably be sleeping easier tonight now that one of their main threats has finally been neutralised after 6 years of hesitation.

November/December 2012

Just seven more games stood between us and a historic first league title. We went into those final seven games with a 4 point lead over our nearest rivals Flamengo. A healthy lead given the season's late stage, but a lot could happen over the next month and a half. But much to my disgust we got off to a disastrous start against Vitoria. Thiago Neves scored twice in a shock 2-0 win for the visitors. Our defending was shambolic at times and the fact that we have been crippled by injury was no excuse for a performance like that. Flamengo cut the gap down to one point and the nightmare of last season began to creep once more into the back of my mind.

We needed to bounce back and we certainly did against Sport Recife but it wasn't that great a defensive performance. It was a game that we worryingly went behind on two occasions, Emerson and Fabiano breaching our defence in the first half. But in the end we wore them down and goals from Lucas Rocha, Whoshington and two from Ale, wrapped up a comfortable 4-2 win. We were delighted to hear that Flamengo had only drawn in their game, so our lead was increased to three points.

We couldn't finish off Americano in our next game despite playing over an hour with a one man advantage after Malawian defender Glynn Duncum was sent off for the home team. Disappointing but Flamengo just could not seize the initiative, another draw for them keeping the gap at three points.

But next came the possible title decider against Flamengo themselves. We knew that a win here could go a long way to sealing the title. But I had serious doubts given the huge amount of players absent through injury. Flamengo went down to 10 men early on but somehow carved out a 2-0 lead through goals from Bruno Mezenga and Fabiano Oliveira. However the numerical advantage soon told and with 15 minutes to go we were level thanks to a goal from Whoshington, teenager Jorge had pulled one back earlier in the game. We tried everything to get a winner but in the end we had to settle for a draw, that kept the point gap at three with three games left.

However, our next two games were nothing short of a disaster and to this day I do not know how it didn't cost us the title. first we lost to a hard working Atletico Mineiro side that were 3-0 up inside an hour. Correa and Wellington did their best to salvage a point by grabbing a goal each but it wasn't enough to save us from a 3-2 defeat. Flamengo predictably responded with a win and now only goal difference kept us top of the league with two games to go.

Internacional had proved a stumbling block at the end of last season and it was no different in this game. At half time we trailed 3-2, goals from Ale and Whoshington cancelled out by Rafael Sobis and Diogo cutting our defence to shreds. In the second half Juca and Danny Cano wrapped up a 5-2 win for the visitors and at that point I was convinced we would be condemned to a runners up spot for a second successive season. But somewhat unbelievably Flamengo had also been defeated at the hands of already relegated Americano. That meant that going into the last game we were level on points.

Last year we had made light work of Corinthians and we needed a repeat performance. It took until the second half for the deadlock to be broken but ot finally was when Whoshington blasted home for 1-0. It was soon followed by a goal from Pablo Correa and then one from his Argentine compatriot Jorge Gimenez. A 3-0 victory that sealed our first league title in over 60 years of existence. We learned that Flamengo had suffered yet another defeat at Bahia, so that meant we were crowned champions three points clear of our closest rivals. It was a wonderful day but already our minds began to focus on the World Club Championships in Japan.

Hermann Aichinger record historic first league title

10th December 2012

www.atleticoha.com.br

Hermann Aichinger beat Corinthians 3-0 yesterday to seal the First Division title for the first time in their 61 year history. Up until 2006 the Santa Catarina side had never progressed further than the Third Division, but just 6 years on they are celebrating a major league victory. It has all been down to English manager Sam Cox who has masterminded the team's transition from sleeping giants to serious contenders. This latest trophy joins their Copa Libertadores success as one of the greatest acheivements in the club's history. But it was almost a repeat of last season when they narrowly finished second to São Paulo. A late collapse with defeats to Atletico Mineiro and Internacional almost saw Flamengo beat them to the title, but the Rio side had a slump in form of their own and defeat to Bahia on the final day of the season meant CAHA were crowned champions.

Manager Sam Cox was delighted at his teams performance this season: "We knew that we had to learn our lesson from last season and not give away as many soft points. Having said that we acheived exactly the same amount of points as last season, I suppose we have to be thankful that our rivals were a bit more wasteful than São Paulo were last season! All credit has to be given to Flamengo, they are a quality side. We defeated them in the Copa Libertadores and we have just pipped them to the league title, we bear them no ill will. They are a side we respect very much and we wish them luck next season."

Star striker Wellington was also delighted with this latest trophy: "We were so disappointed to lose out on the final day last season, we were just thankful that we got another opportunity to win the league and this time we made no mistake. It is a fantastic acheivement and I hope we can successfully defend our title next season".

The Champions of Brazil and South America now head to Yokohama in Japan to try and become World Champions, completing a very impressive treble. The likes of Tigres of Mexico, Orlando Pirates of South Africa, Auckland of New Zealand, Okayama of Japan and Deportivo la Coruna of Spain stand in their way.

World Club Championship Semi Final 2012

Hermann Aichinger vs. Okayama FC

Hermann Aichinger manager Sam Cox was able to field a full strength side against Japanese side Okayama. The Asian champions had recorded an impressive 3-0 win over South African outfit Orlando Pirates, so the Brazilians had to be wary of a potential upset. But in reality the Japanese side provided few threats to Barbosa's goal. Hermann Aichinger's first foray into Okayama's half eventually resulted in the first goal as early as five minutes in. Some good build up play from Fagner Galvão put Wellington clean through on goal. The strikers shot was saved well, but Pablo Correa was on hand to pounce on the re-bound and make it 1-0.

From then on it was one way traffic with Correa and Wellington creating numerous chances. Pablo Correa had the chance to double the lead mid-way through the first half. The young Argentine powering a free header just over the bar. Fagner Galvão was unlucky not to score from range as he was brilliantly denied by Okayama keeper, Tatsuya Ueda. Barbosa was finally forced to make a save not long before the break when a corner delivered by Takayuki Abe curled dangerously towards the back post. The Brazilian international was forced to parry the ball out for another corner.

The second half was non stop pressure from Hermann Aichinger. Chance after chance went begging and it took until the 84th minute for the game to be made safe. A long cross by Juan Guillermo Pinzon, found Wellington who nodded it on for Pablo Correa. The youngster hit it on the volley past the keeper for 2-0. A comfortable victory for Hermann Aichinger who go on to the final, where they will meet Deportivo la Coruna after the Spanish side beat Mexicans Tigres 2-0.

Final Score: Hermann Aichinger 2-0 Okayama FC

Helmut had by now gotten used to the endless routine of prison life. That said, his influence managed to make his stay in prison a lot more comfortable than most other prisoners even began to dream of. Now he was joined by several of his colleagues after the collapse of the party. He saw them every now and then but he was forbidden from contact with them. It had all happened in the blink of an eye. He had often imagined emerging from prison a conquering hero, crowned the new Emperor in what would be the Fourth Reich. At the party's height of power that idea did not seem that far off. However, now it appeared an impossibilty and he would be spending the rest of his days behind bars. As the cold reality of that slowly began to sink in, Helmut's mind turned to revenge. He couldn't hit out at the people that had been responsible for the party's collapse. For a start he had no idea who they were and even if he did, he was sure they would be to powerful to contend with. He could however hit out at the man that had put him in prison. The man whose close range shot had resulted in a steel plate re-inforcing what was left of his cranium, the one that gave him such excruciating headaches every day.

On this particular frosty morning in mid December, Helmut walked over to the pay phone in the prison courtyard. There was a lengthy queue to use the phone, but upon seeing Helmut and the two men that acted as personal bodyguards, the crowd shuffled backwards and Helmut was allowed to the front of the queue. He slowly picked up the receiver and punched in a series of numbers. It rang several times before there was an answer.

"Yes?"

"The time has come, you must depart for Japan. You know what is required of you."

"Understood."

"Good luck."

It was a short conversation, however it had no need to be lengthy especially since all calls were monitored. The German Police would have no idea what any of it meant.

***

24 hours later, a man left Tokyo airport. He was dressed all in black, even down to sunglasses. He looked European and generally was the kind of person one tended to avoid in the street, there was an ominous vibe about him. As he made his way to catch a taxi he bumped into another man causing him to drop his case.

"Are you okay?"

He asked the man he had almost felled. The man surveyed him suspiciously before answering.

"Yeah I'm fine"

The man looked him straight in the eye and then nodded. The European glanced down and picked up his case before setting off. Except it wasn't his, their cases were identical and they had pulled off a perfect switch. The European got in a cab to a local train station, he kept an iron grip on the new case as he boarded a train bound for Yokohama........

World Club Championship Final 2012

Yokohama Stadium, Japan

Hermann Aichinger vs. Deportivo la Coruna

Sam Cox's Hermann Aichinger side faced a tough test in this World Club Championship final. The Spaniards were blessed with talent in every department. Talent such as Spanish internationals Manuel Moreno and Silva, rising Argentinian starlet Gustavo Garcia, Chile captain Luis Jiminez. Not to mention tricky English winger Stewart Downing, clinical Russian striker Alexandr Kerzhakov and Brazilian internationals Rafinha and Neto Potiguar.

So it would be a tough challenge for the Brazilians who hoped to complete a treble. However this competetion had not been won by a South American side since Corinthians beat Liverpool in 2006. It would be a real test of character for Cox's men. Para was the only CAHA player not 100% fit for this game and young Argentine Jorge Gimenez was on stand by to replace him just in case.

Deportivo started well and Kerzhakov found the side-netting in the first few minutes, perhaps a sign of things to come. But Hermann Aichinger responded and João Paulo saw a fizzing effort well saved by Munua. Moises also took the opportunity to put the Deportivo defence under pressure and his trickery with the ball was unsettling compatriot Rafinha as the right back struggled to deal with the teenager. But it was the left winger who gave away the ball that eventually led to the opening goal. Gustavo Garcia went on a fabulous run before crossing for Kerzhakov who fired the ball past Barbosa on the half volley for 1-0. CAHA had been punished and the Spaniards looked comfortable and well capable of increasing their lead. They almost did a few moments later and it was the Russian Kerzhakov again who was in, this time he was denied by a last ditch tackle by Matheus. Barbosa was in action once more, this time saving a well struck shot from Neto Potiguar. Deportivo were looking as though they were about to run away with the game. Garcia had a few more chances but wasted them, it was now total one way traffic and Hermann Aichinger needed a goal soon to try and get back in the match. Amazingly that goal came just before half time. A cross from Moises was played into the near post where Wellington flicked it towards goal, the keeper parried but straight into the path of Pablo Correa who tapped in for 1-1. It was the last action of the first half as the teams went in for the break.

Gimenez came on for Para at the start of the second as CAHA looked to build on their equaliser. But it was easier said than done as barely 10 minutes into the second half Deportivo hit back. Jimenez playing in Neto Potiguar who calmly slid the ball past Barbosa to give Deportivo a 2-1 lead. It was back to the drawing board for Cox's men as they went about finding a second equaliser. Barbosa made a few saves that kept CAHA in the game before a counter attack yielded major rewards for the Brazilians. Another Moises cros was hoisted towards the back post and Juan Guillermo Pinzon towered above everyone and thumped a header home for 2-2. That opened the game up dramatically and both teams had chances to win but just couldn't finish off their chances. The final whistle was blown and the teams prepared for penalties.

Jorge Gimenez opted to take the first CAHA penalty and he tucked the ball neatly into the bottom left corner for 1-0. Tal Ben-Haim soon levelled the shoot out, smashing the ball into the centre of the net for 1-1. João Paulo was next up and he made no mistake restoring CAHA's advantage to 2-1. Arguably the man of the match Gustavo Garcia confidently blasted Depor's next penalty home making it 2-2. Juan Guillermo Pinzon's penalty found the net via the post to make it 3-2. Then disaster struck for Deportivo, Rafinha's penalty clattered against the cross bar and it was advantage Hermann Aichinger. Matheus gladly increased that advantage by sticking the ball into the net and making it 4-2. Asier Del Horno had to score to keep Deportivo in it, but his penalty was brilliantly saved by Barbosa and Hermann Aichinger sealed a World Championship win.

Final Score: Hermann Aichinger 2-2 Deportivo la Coruna (Hermann Aichinger win 4-2 on penalties)

As the final whistle blew, Sam felt an elation that was unrivalled by any of the trophies he had won previously. This was the tournament that meant the most to Brazilians and he was bringing it home. In somewhat of a daze he made his way onto the pitch where the presentation of the medals and trophy was about to take place. The players were jumping around and showering each other in champagne. They insisted that Sam was the first to go to the podium as he had guided them here. Sam obliged and turned to see the president of FIFA holding the trophy. He began slowly walking towards the ultimate when all of a sudden he heard a loud crack and he was blown off his feet, a searing pain burning in his left side just below his shoulder. He looked down and saw dark blood spurting from in between his shoulder and breast, he was vaguely aware of the screams as he clutched his left side to stem the bleeding. He began to struggle for breath and he could taste the blood trickling out of his mouth. As he lay gasping and clutching his wound he was aware of the paramedics crouched at his side.

But then his vision began to blur and his hearing became muffled. He felt a cold sensation grip his body as he lapsed out of consciousness...........

Well, that's it. The end icon_smile.gif

I know I previously promised an extra season but I felt the time was right to finally end this tale after the victory in the Club World Championship. Plus, I'm well into playing what will soon become the sequel, so I didn't want to get too far ahead in that respect. I hope to start that sequel very soon so any fans of this one, don't panic!

I suppose a few thank-you's are in order. Firstly to the player Wellington, whose 200+ goals not only made the story more interesting but also saved it from being 20 pages long as opposed to just over 6, who knows we may still have been languishing in the Third Division were it not for him! Not bad for a free transfer and I guarantee you'll be hearing more from him soon.

Next I have to thank everyone who read this and posted encouragement along the way, it was really appreciated guys icon14.gif. And to all the people that voted for this story in the Awards. I would have been thrilled with just one nomination but to get three was much more than I could have expected. I couldn't think of a more worthy writer to share the Best Rest of World Story award than chesterfan2 who has been a profilic supporter of this story and for that, more thanks are in order.

So, I hope the cliffhanger has left you all suitably enthralled and I hope you take a look at the sequel. (Whenever I get round to starting it that is! icon_wink.gif)

Cheers,

Sam

Hats off Xenon, one heck of a story. And I'm not just saying that because you've just said something nice about me.

I know I've joked about it previously but I really did vote for this story as Best Rest Of the World Story, and to my mind it is THE worthy winner of that category. This story finishes strongly on a high note where my PP-70 story just kind of stops, in addition I thought my story kind of went off the boil towards the end.

Nevermind, back to the grindstone, good luck, Xenon, with whatever comes next.
