As a sign of my FM addictiveness, I'll say that he's 'currently recupurating from an arm injury. Out for 2-3 weeks' so updates may be less frequent than usual in that time.

lol, bless! I hope he recovers quickly mate. All the best! icon14.gif

If yes, would it be possible to check my injury proneness stat, because after reading through the story again, I noticed that I have been injured alot.

Cheers icon_smile.gif

And, Looking forward to the World Cup!

According to FMM, the Cap'n has an injury proness rating of 25/100 so he's probably just ahd bad luck so far rather than being a Michael Owen.

(everyone join in) sti, sti, sti for the world cup.

kutgw mate.

Can't see the odds of STI winning the whole thing but they are rank outsiders for all of the group games: 15-1 to beat Turkey, 20-1 to get past the Germans and 10-1 to win against Cameroon. I guess the bookies don't rate the Southerners that much!

Rivals Clash: Southern Treasure Islands v. Northern Treasure Islands, International Friendly

Date: 01.06.10

Venue: Crossbones Stadium, Blackbeard City (home of the Blackbeard City Raiders)

Preview

These two rivals met on STI's home turf as the Southerners completed their preparations before heading to South Africa. The boys from the North would be looking to demoraliase their rivals before the World Cup. Only Jason de Mire was missing for STI, meaning the chance was there for the other strikers to show their form ahead of the tournament.

1st Half

The Southerners were determined to head to the World Cup in style and it showed as they started the match at an incredibly high tempo. The Northerners seemed to be lacking motivation as the STI attackers poured forward. It took just 4 minutes for the scoring to begin as Adam Clatworthy crossed for Bobihno to head home. A mere three minutes later, Clatworthy got to the byline and crossed again. This time it was Captain Gingerbread, who rose to the ocassion and marked his return from injury with a goal. NTI seemed powerless to resist the STI attack and hardly mnaged to venture into their opponents half. At the other end, the Southern Islanders were turning the game into shooting practice. A 3rd goal seemed inevitable and indeed it came as Bobinho collected a loose ball on the edge of the area, skipped through the defence and placed a shot into the back of the net.

2nd Half

NTI seemed to be in danger of total humiliation and so came out for the second half with a very defensive look. They tried to keep the ball away from their opponents and weren't taking any risks going forward. This resulted in them managing just three decent attacks all game but without any return. If another goal was to come, it was always going to be from the STI side and Craig Healy made it possible with a sublime pass to Gingerbread, who removed any lingering doubts about his fitness with another goal. The only worry for STI was an injury to Juan Carlos late on but post match scans revealed it was only bruising and he would be fit for the World Cup.

Final Score: Southern Treasure Islands 4 Northern Treasure Islands 0

World Cup 2010: Group Stages

So here it is - the STI World Cup Adventure!! icon_biggrin.gif

As the tournament approached the Southern Treasure Islands started to gain a bit of attention both as the new comers and the youngest squad at the tournament - where had these boys come from? exactly how good were they? could they be a surprise package? The situation started to arise where everybody saw STI as their second team (a bit like Jamaica at France '989, except, of course, for their bitter rivals from the North, who could only watch back in their Capital City offices. icon_wink.gif

The STI Squad - nearly all they names from those first days at the Cove Bay Pirates were reunited once more for the World Cup adventure. Only one absentee as Jason de Mire was ruled out for a month with a shoulder injury. icon_frown.gif That did create space in the squad for Joep Beukers, meaning a regen would be joining the rest of the lads.

Group C, Matchday 1: Southern Treasure Islands v. Turkey

Date: 13.06.10

Venue: Ellis Park, Johannesburg

Up first, a tough test against Turkey. In a cagey first half, the Southerners tried to keep the ball and shut out their opponents. The Turks seemed surprised by the passing skill of the Islanders and began to realise, along with the rest of the world, that they may have underestimated their opponents. STI's tactics of frustrating the other team paid off in the second half as Emre suffered a rush of blood to the head and clattered into Craig Healy from behind, earning himself a straight red. From the resulting freekick, Captain Gingerbread fired home a thunderbolt to give the debutants the lead. After that, it was all about STI and Elliot Druce laid on another goal just five minutes later which Brendanio, just on as a sub, cooly slotted home. Gingerbread ended up with the MoM award but a special mention must go to Iker Reina who had made some crucial saves when the score was at 0-0.

Final Score: Southern Treasure Islands 2 Turkey 0

Group C, Matchday 2: Germany v. Southern Treasure Islands

Date: 18.06.10

Venue: FNB Stadium, Johannesburg

An even tougher proposition in the next game then as STI faced three times champions Germany. The Germans had beaten Cameroon in their first game and would be looking to secure a spot in the 2nd round. STI would just be hoping for the best. Germany had many of the early chances but, once more, the Southern Islanders were showing their skills on the ball as they played a patient possession game. It seemed like the experience of the Germans would be to much though as they took the lead on 14 minutes. The STI boys did not lose heart though and kept playing the ball around the park looking for a breakthrough. They got it on 24 minutes as Juan Carlos broke down the right wing and fired in a cross which was powered home by Bobihno. That rattled the Germans, who then found themselves under pressure. They buckled again on 37 minutes as Elliot Druce was on hand again with a lovely through ball for Captain Gingerbread, who made it two in two games. Germany tried to break down their opponents in the second half but couldn't find a way back into the match with Maccaniniho in particularly fine form. As the referee blew trhe final whistle, the stadium erupted and the citizens of Cove Bay poured onto the streets to celebrate one of the biggest World Cup shocks ever!

Final Score: Germany 1 Southern Treasure Islands 2

STI Ratings & Stats

The joy of the Southerners was amplified greatly later in the day as Turkey beat Cameroon. WÄ°th Turkey and Germany both on three points and set to play each other in the final game, and a pointless Cameroon side the last opponents for STI, the boys from the South were through to the next round! It would just be a matter now of whether they finished first or second in the group....

It's a shame just one antion qualified this time round but bear in mind that by the time the next World Cup comes around, the NTI players will all be aged 23 or 24 - approaching their peak, they should qualify too. icon14.gif

World Cup 2010: Group Stages

Group C, Matchday 3: Cameroon v. Southern Treasure Islands

Date: 23.06.10

Venue: Loftus, Pretoria

STI arrived in pretoira for their final group game already established as the sensation of the tournament and sure of their place in the next round. There was still work to be done, however. The situation in group D meant that, if they could top the group, their likely opponents would be Peru or Australia. If they ended up in second place, there would be a much tougher match ahead against England. Although Cameroon were out, they were not to be written off as they would be looking to get at least one win to save some face. The first ahlf seemed to be passing uneventfully but Cameroon suddenly burst into life in the last 5 minutes as they exposed the STI defence twice to go in 2 up at the break. In the second half, the Southerners began to play more aggresively but they lost momentum when Captain Gingerbread was taken off with a bang to the head. News was coming through from the other game that Germany were 2 up against Turkey, a result which would leave STI 2nd in the group. It wasn't over, however, as Bobinho produced a moment of magic to score deep into injury time. STI still lost but that goal enabled them to top the group. icon14.gif

Final Score: Cameroon 2 Southern Treasure Islands 1

STI Ratings & Stats

Group C Results & Final Standings - in the end, it was tight with STI and Germany tied on points and goal difference - the head-to-head result meant STI took top spot. icon14.gif

And here are all the first round results:

Final Standings: Groups A-D

Final Standings: Groups E-H

No great surprises, except perhaps for Portugal's elimination. NTI may also feel they could have done better than Colombia. icon_wink.gif

That meant STI would face Australia in the second round: Full Second Round Draw

If they can beat the Aussies, STI will face the winner of the Ivory Coast/Ukraine match in the quarters.

Says you are out for a week so you'll miss the second round but will be back should STI make the quarter finals.

Decent season for Peralta I suppose, managed to grab a few first team appearances at least. Hoping he stays with Merchants to develop his career but a move to Roda wouldn't be so bad; their in the uefa cup at least. After NTI's drubbing against STI perhaps it's time General Specific was replaced as captain; would give a chance for some fresh talent to compete for that DMC position icon_smile.gif

World Cup 2010: Second Round

Southern Treasure Islands v. Australia

Date: 27.06.10

Venue: Loftus, Pretoria

Into the second round and a match up between two of the 'smaller' remaining teams in the tournament. STI were riding high on a wave of confidence following their group stage success. Australia were rubbing their squeaky bums after barely making past Peru and South Africa in the first round. The pattern of the group stages continued as STI dominated from the start. However, the Aussie defence was strong and the first half finished goaless. A quick pep talk at half time did the trick as it took Bobinho just two minutes to open the scoring following fine work by Clatworthy. STI had many chances to increase their lead but couldn't capatilise. Australia gave them a couple of late scares but the score remained unchanged and the Southern Islanders were on their way to the quarter finals!!!

Final Score: Southern Treasure Islands 1 Australia 0

STI Ratings & Stats

Elsewhere, Ivory Coast comfortably dispatched Ukraine, setting up a clash with the STI boys. Denmark upset the odds by sending holders Italy out on penalties. Nigeria also provided a shock as they knocked out Argentina. One result that was no surprise - Germany beat England on penalties. icon_rolleyes.gif

World Cup 2010: Quarter Finals

Ivory Coast v. Southern Treasure Islands

Date: 02.07.10

Venue: Odi Stadium, Pretoria

This match brought together two teams who were in form, as well as being seen as dark horses to win the entire thing. STI were straight out of the blocks as Juan Carlospicked up the ball from the kick-off, ran down the wing and delivered a great cross which Bobinho cooly volleyed home. STI were 1 up and their opponents hadn't even touched the ball! Ivory Coast soon settled into the game though and started to outplay the Southerners. They got back into the match as Didier Drogba fired home a free kick on 24 minutes. That gave the West Africans the momentum to dominate the rest of the half as STI really struggled to cope with their powerful attack. The Islanders help on until injury time when Meite gave the Ivorians the lead. In the second half, STI set about reasserting themselves as they did what they have done so well throughout the tournament and held the ball, looking for the best openings. It paid off as Wilkinson got to the byline on 57 mins and crossed for Bobinho to score once again and level the match. Both sides had chances to win but 90 mins came with no more goals and this game was going to extra time...

As happens all too often at these tournaments, both teams sat back in extra time as tiredness kicked in and the risk of missing out on the semi-finals played on both teams' minds. The inevitable penalty shoot-out was unavoidable. STI were up first and Brendanio and Wilkinson both kept their heads as they slotted the ball passed the keeper. Then, a moment of panic as Nathaniel Ball rushed his kick and hit it too close to the goalie. That gave Drogba the chance to put Ivory Coast in the lead. Noody in the stadium was more relieved then Ball as he blasted wide. Rich Denton then scored from the spot, as did Ivory Coast. Maccaniniho had the responsibility of taking the last penalty for STI. With the pitch wet from rain showers, the centre back did a john Terry and slipped at the vital moment, sending the ball wide in the process. That then gave Ivory Coast the advantage as Kanga Akalé stepped up with the chance to win the game for his team. STI's only hope was some magic from Iker Reina. Akalé rolled up his socks began his ran up and...... icon_wink.gif

....blasted it over the bar!! Sorry about that - I fully intended to post the remainder of this last night but got caught up with other stuff...)

That meant sudden death. Craig Healy did the business but his strike was cancelled out by Kolo Toure. It was then down to captain David Sunderland to restore the advantage. The Ivorian keeper got a hand to the shot but couldn't keep it out as STI went 5-4 ahead. Eboue then had to score for Ivory Coast - but he couldn't as his peanlty smashed against the bar!! Wild celebrations ensued from the Southern Islanders as they had reached the semi-finals on their World Cup debut!
