cezar.sl
One thing that annoys me in FM is that sometimes, when you buy a player, over the couple of days / weeks you spend negotiating a price and contract, the player is involved in a Europa League / Champions League game, and thus he is ineligible to play for your team in the continental competitions. I suggest that a clause must be added, stating that the buying club will pay an extra sum of money is the selling club does not use the player in a continental competition. So, if for example, you are Liverpool and want to buy Jovetic from Fiorentina, and they have some continental matches coming up, and they want 15 mil $ for him, you could negotiate the offer to 13 mil $ + 2 mil $ if he is not cup tied. That way, Fiorentina get their money if they don't play him, but if they do play him, maybe because it's a must win game and they have a lot on injuries in that position, you'll get a cheaper, but cup tied player. The same rule can apply to domestic cups. Real life example : Poulsen did not play for Juventus in the Europa League because of his negotiations with Liverpool. Koki
I really like the idea. Would add to the game and prevent you from that annoying moment when you realise you can't field your new signing
cezar.sl
Given that Europa League qualifying rounds start as early as 1st July, it's very easy to end up with and unusable player.
Neji
from me. Just been a victim of this actually, this feature would have helped massively.
Herter
Instead of having contract clauses, this should be in the game passively.. I mean that IRL when a player knows he is leaving the club, he doesnt play in european competitions. It happens alot.. but contract clauses would also be a good feature

He might be a loyal player, but with the new agents in the game, his might want the bigger deal to go trough so he gets a hight cut. In the example I gave, for Fiorentina, it would be a bigger loss to go out of the Champions League in the qualifying stages than to lose 2 mil $ from the transfer. On the other hand, would than money be worth enough for Liverpool to compensate the loss of a player in the continental completion? It brings a new factor in the negotiations. How much are both teams willing to risk?
dave byrd
What if the team needs him? Well if they need him they will play him. They don't have to agree to that clause if it were put into the game.

As I said, the team has a choise : use the player and lose the money or keep the money and risk the game.
gazzamark
There should be some affect on a players value if he's cup tied, it takes away from realism with it not being included.

Well, if a player is Cup tied for the Italian Cup, why should it affect his value if you buy him in France?
Leaf_Fan_85
I believe he's referring to Europa/Champion's League cup tied.
x42bn6
Won't work. Contracts can only take place once signed so if during negotiations or transfer confirmation he plays it can't apply - the contract isn't signed! The better way to do it is that the selling club may avoid playing him in Europe - if they do, the price should simply come down.

Nottingham Forest
This would be a good feature tbh. Great idea mate .
trekman
What if the team needs him? If they really need him then why dont they just reject the transfer in the first place or wait to see if they progress in european competition then transfer list him\accept offers when they get knocked out. Misodoctakleidist
What's to stop you pretending that you want to buy the entire first team of your next opponents in the CL qualifiers?
ManUTactician247
This is actually a good idea, it adds depth to transfer negotiations and gives you an extra option when trying to get a player
SCIAG
What's to stop you pretending that you want to buy the entire first team of your next opponents in the CL qualifiers? Or all their goalkeepers... They'll choose whether it is worth them playing the player. If he's a key player, they'd probably play him anyway, weighing up whether the fee is worth more than qualification...
