auberius
A few game months back (April 2017), I bought (as a Premiership club) a promising American left-back from an MLS club, and must have glanced at the screen and seen "July 1st" and thought no more about it. However, he didn't join me at the start of my transfer window and when I checked, it turns out he's apparently joining me on July 1st 2018... Is this some bizarre MLS rule I wasn't aware of? It might make some sense in terms of his birthday (he's 18 on June 29th 2018) but as his current contract expires at the end of 2017, what's he going to do then? aderow
I think it has to do with the fact that he is under 18. Also it may be because the transfer window doesnt open until July 1st 2018.
DanGLiverpool
Probably will play out of contract anyway, then wait until he 1/7/18 to join you. Or he could sign a contract until 1/7/18, doubt it though.
hasdgfas
Non EU players aren't allowed to sign for an EU club until they're 18, iirc. Although that may not be fully accurate, it's close. Brazil, Argentina, USA, etc. That's why Arsenal doesn't have Wellington Silva or Damien Martinez at the start of the game, for instance.
Sead Muratic
Or some nations simply won't allow their players to go abroad before reaching certain age, for good reasons.
