Your Greatest Ever Comeback

Recommended Posts

In a break from the recent forum tradition of talking about AI comebacks, I want to know how many of us have made an extraordinary turnaround in a match. IMO scoring a late equaliser or winner in FM is as close to emulating real football emotion as possible in a game. I've provided a few screenshots of games in which I have defied the odds and come back to save face or get an all important win.

Hopefully some more of you will add to this and provide some screenies to prove your tactical masterstroke.

FC Bayern - Juventus

Liverpool - FC Bayern

HSV - FC Bayern

I recently suffered a comeback from my AI opposition.

3-0 up. Eight minutes to go, I think? Thought it was all wrapped up, so I switched my attention to the Wii. Upon my return - it was 3-3. I'll post a screenie later if I feel the urge! icon_razz.gif

Damn Wii...

I once came back from 1-0 down to get a draw at 1-1 if that counts?!

Seriously though, I cameback against Newcastle as Birmingham at home. They went 2-0 up in 34 minutes but a cool double from my striker and a long range goal from my midfielder sorted them out.

2 comebacks which i am so so proud of. first i against chelsea in the champions league. was 3-0 down from first leg of semi at stamford bridge, and then went 1 goal down in 2 minutes at the emirates, ended up winning 5-1 and winning the tie 5-4 on aggregate. the hero was nicklas bendtner who i brought in to the starting XI at the last minute.

ArsenalvChelsea

second i achieved about an hour ago. dominated the game against liverpool, best chances etc, but was down 1-0 at half time cos of ezequiel garay. pushed and pushed and in the 86th/87th minute fabregas scores for me, then garay puts into his own net in stoppage time at the new anfield and arsenal leave with 3 points to stretch to 31 consecutive wins.

(dont have a screenie of liverpool game yet!) :p

4-0 down at halftime to barcelona in the CL quarter finals, came back to 4-4 with a blatantly offside goal in injurytime icon_biggrin.gif

not only did we win 1-0 in the nou camp, but we went on to lift the trophy too!

i also beat roma 6-2 at home in the 1st knockout, second leg the previous season, after losing 4-1 in the olimpico.

Champions League quarter finals against Real Madrid as Milan (the only team I ever play with on FM).

Lost the first leg away to them 2-0. Second leg at home, was losing 1-0 after half time. Then came back to beat them 7-1 and finally going through to the semi finals (which I lost to Man Utd 6-3 on aggregates) on an aggregate of 7-3.

Man Utd - Newcastle CL final a come back of sorts. Had been an even game then we got to extra time and the game went crazy, we just started to pull them apart and won with ease. My best game in FM08 so far, made all the better by the fact Man Utd only finished 7th that season, so no CL football for them the next.

Arsenal - Swansea Late goal beats AI comeback. Going into the last game of the season fighting with Arsenal to try and finally win my first Premiership, I needed to beat them to draw even on points and take the title on goal difference (beat them by 3).

Ignore my previous post, was meant to cancel it but posted by accident!

Went behind during extra time, but managed to get a late equaliser then won via penalties. The game itself was a rollercoaster so I might make a thread for that if I can't find one similar.

Don't have any screenshots as I deleted the save a while ago but I came back from 3 down in the FA Cup final to win on penalties against Arsenal in the second season as Coventry City.

I Also managed a 3-3 draw at the Bridge the game before hand after being 3-0 down with Chelsea having won the league and only conceded 5 goals all season, with mifsud scoring a hattrick.

My two greatest comebacks came in the championship playoffs with West brom.

3-0 down to Watford at home in the first leg.

We won 4-3 on agreegate with Sherjill MacDonald(who hasn't scored for us irl) scoring a hat trick.

Then in the play off final i went 3-0 to Preston and in a bizarre fashion i pulled it back to 3-3 when Centre back Neil clement(Our longest serving player) scored with a header in the 95th minute of stoppage time.

Stuff of fairy tales, except i got relegated the season after icon_frown.gificon_biggrin.gif

its not really a great comeback but in the champions league a few seasons ago i was ac milan and i was playing aresenal..

in the first leg at home i lost 3-5 somehow i dont really know what happened i just choked i guess...

in the return leg at the emerates a week lateri was getting smashed again losing 2-0 i think and then they got 2 red cards in like 30seconds icon_smile.gif

they changed to a formation with no strikers (i think 5-3 with 2 of the 3 cm's having barrows) so i changed my formation to a 2-5-3 and scored 5 goals to win the match icon_smile.gif

With Mexico I was playing Brazil away from home. Was 2-0 down and half time and being swamped. Made no changes, just told the team to tight mark the forwards and said I expect better for the team talk. BOOM FT 2-4!

Was also 3-0 with 70 mins to go away at Man City on my Everton save. Bring on my replacement DM Diego Souza as Veloso was having a 'mare... he scores 3 along with Nazarith and Ageuro chipping in to make it 5-5 FT... I went on to win on penalties icon_biggrin.gif

I once lost the first leg of a Champions League Semi-Final 4-0 to Real Madrid at home, conceding defeat I decided to rest most of my first team and focus on the league, the reserves ended up winning 5 - 0 in the away leg.

I still don't know what caused Real to fall apart so badly but it was one of those FM moments where I felt the kind of happiness you can't usually get from playing a game.

Went down an early goal in the 4th minute, but on the 16th minute managed to pull it back to level. Suddenly we got blitzed with 2 goals in 2 minutes to make it 1-3 to them. Got to half time and I gave my team what for in the dressing room. It was Mike Bassett-esque, reminiscent of his ranting and raving at half-time when England were playing Mexico... as we piled out for the second half and almost straightaway lost another goal.. 1-4 to them. I had my head in my hands and with barely any time to look back up, they scored again to make it 1-5!! I was thinking cricket scores, resignation, throwing computer out of the window, giving up on FM completely etc.

However, my team had other ideas... nearly straight away we got one back on the 58th min to make it 2-5. No more than a consolation, surely? However, just two minutes later we score another, 3-5.. is there a sign of life in the team??

My team seems to have sparked and after intense pressure, we are dominating, however it's getting us nowhere. Coming up to the 80th minute and I'm already thinking of saying, well, at least you won this half lads...

But suddenly, on the 83rd minute we score to make it 4-5... surely not? What kind of crazy game is this? Did the other team go home early? It seems that they are on the ropes, but there isn't enough time! My team will not be denied and the moment of epiphany arrives with the equalising goal two minutes later to make it 5-5!!!!!!!!

My team aren't finished there though and at the death we charge up the field to score another to complete an amazing turnaround and quite frankly one that I've never seen in all my years of playing FM.

I actually felt like I'd been out there and played the full 90 minutes myself.

Unbelievable 5-1 down comeback
