Misodoctakleidist
I use a sweeper keeper all the time. It just means that he rushes out and clears through-balls.
duffy89
René Higuita Second that mate, an absolute legend

momo3289
I never use sweeper keeper! Did not even know I could! Might look into it...
Luton Town
never risked it due to the keeper probably doing some stupid thing and end up costing a goal
Graham FM
never risked it due to the keeper probably doing some stupid thing and end up costing a goal yeah im in the same boat here..i know if i did it my keeper would just make a mess of clearing the ball and cost me dearly
razorr666
You have to have a decent keeper mind, or you will see some pretty crazy mistakes.
Misodoctakleidist
If you play a high defensive line it is worth the odd mistake once a season.
momo3289
I don't trust keepers when the ball is at their feet!
edgar555
There are a number of quality sweeper/keepers in game and those with the right stats can do a fantastic job. There is a thread about them I'm GPTG. Makes me laugh to see them dismissed out of hand by people who haven't even used them.
momo3289
I will look at the thread. I dont trust keepers to play as sweeper but will look into it as I play a high defensive line and if I have the right keeper I might give it a try and hopefully be proven wrong
Neji
Pepe Reina springs to mind when I hear 'sweeper keeper'.
cruyff14
All Ajax keepers are/were taught to play sweeper keeper in fact all Dutch goalies were as it's part of the foundations of total football
nippon14
Pepe Reina springs to mind when I hear 'sweeper keeper'. Yes, I think same. When I play with Liverpool, I usually give him sweeper keeper role.
Kenco
Pepe Reina is very good at this, I signed him for Man City and use him in as sweeper keeper on support duty. He is very quick for a keeper, so will often beat strikers to the ball, and has good ball skills. Also allows for quick counter attacks.
robertcornell68
Always use the sweeper keeper, even in the BSP.
Andyprime
i never used to but i swear by them now (and sometimes at them )
Montanaro
In one save I've got a sweeper keeper regen with like 16 pace, 17 acc, like 16 rushing out. However I have set him to defensive so he rarely rushes out, I need to change him to attack.
plf666
I use a sweeper keeper if i'm playing lower league and have slow defenders.

Misodoctakleidist
He was caught out by an inconsistent bounce. It would have been fine if on a better quality pitch.
stemlfc
Pepe Reina is a good s.keeper. His awareness is legendary. A true legend that man is.
NVS_Gooner4life
I have never used it tbh, another goalkeeper that comes to mind who liked to do insane rushes was the mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos.
2000AD
Would Fabien Barthez be classed as 'sweeper keeper' or just 'eccentric and made mistakes'?
Pangaea
I use it too. Be warned though, they can both save you some goals from throughballs and cost you goals from ****-ups.
Pangaea
The risk of the sweeper keeper....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHIV6eVdZpQ That's not a sweeper keeper. That's an idiot.
Koki
Manuel Neuer you will see at wc I don't know who told those young keepers (Neuer & Adler) that you have to run out of your goal to be a good modern keeper. Sometimes it seems like they run out of their goal because they 'have to' without knowing what they're doing. To say it with the words of Tim Wiese: 'Modern goalkeeping means keeping a cleansheet'. danpegg
Respect to Koki for quoting Tim Wiese, what a guy. But yes, its all about sweeper keepers. As long as they have decent acceleration, rushing out and first touch you're sorted
aadam
Maybe one can use a sweeper keeper to raise pressure on opponents when in need of a goal in the last minutes by having him collecting clearances and getting the ball forward instead of just standing on his line? I'm not sure, I'm just guessing.
Troneas
rené higuita from colombia was a legend. other examples include former mexican goalie jorge campos, current argentinean goalie sergio romero seems to be going in that direction too.
robertcornell68
Last night my sweeper keeper headed the ball straight to the opposition's centre forward. Oops. They save more points than they lose but from time to time you will need to kick something.
Gizmo7
I have a regen keeper with about 17 for pace and accelaration, but only 11 for rushing out. Would he be a decent sweeper keeper?
Troneas
I have a regen keeper with about 17 for pace and accelaration, but only 11 for rushing out. Would he be a decent sweeper keeper? what is his "decisions" rating? you don't want him rushing out at the wrong time.
Fade2Black
being a fan of Stefan Klos i always use sweeper keeper. I play with a high line so it clears any potential counter attacks.
DavidG589
Pepe Reina springs to mind when I hear 'sweeper keeper'. Was going to say this. I like Reina, think he's a class goalkeeper - I always use this option regardless of who I manage. But then, to be perfectly honest, I never really notice anything different between that and standard goalkeeper settings. Of course, I might not know what I'm supposed to be looking for! jb10billion
I use sweeper keeper in the last 10 minutes if i'm not winning. clears up thru balls and keeps the ball in the opposition half the majority of the time. prone to the odd mistake but if i lose the match i blame it on the previous 80 minutes anyway so sod it! SeanNUFC
Did it once, it backfired, never again!
AbsoluteGenius
I use it all the time unless my keeper is extremely slow (pace under 5). It has proven to be very effective, especially as I play with a high defensive line. However, yes, my sweeper keeper does sometimes make mistakes (about 2 or 3 times per season), but it is worth it for the sweeping/assists.
