Because we will be playing a lot more 50 over games from next week, than the one off 20/20 game we play this week.

Does anyone else think that England playing their ODI squad for the 20/20 is a bit dumb.

As you can see a number of our batsmen have played extremely little and those that have haven't exactly been outstanding. Both Flintoff and Pietersen have to play on the principal that they hit the ball better than pretty much everyone else in England. It just takes one of them to get going and the opposition are in major trouble. But why not play someone like Maddy who has been the best 20/20 player by far, in a competition in which mainly Aussies have dominated.

Just back from Grace Road. Quite a privilege to see the mighty Aussies at pretty much full strength. They are almost all huge lads as well - after watching them warming up the Leics lads looked like midgets by comparison when they came onto the field.

Despite his century Hayden still looked pretty scratchy and went through periods where he got bogged down then would hit out a while to get it going again. Martyn was impressive though, scoring quickly without you really noticing, whilst Symonds was brutal towards the end - his last 40-odd came off 16 balls.

Brett Lee's opening spell was very quick, although his action does look well suspect when you are sat in line with him - I'd go so far as to say that he actually DOES chuck his bouncer (the ball that got Paul Nixon out almost defied belief in that regard). He got some stick off the crowd too for not signing autographs but he took it in good part and had some banter going. McGrath and Dizzy were absolute top blokes though who couldn't have been more hospitable to the fans.

I got some good snaps and will post a few later on.

Have to agree with that, McGrath was alwas willing to spend some time with fans when he was at Worcester a couple of years back.

After the working over he got from Brett Lee today I'd imagine Maddy is quite happy not to have to face him again quite so soon

brett lee first and then matthew hayden. they kept refusing to sign peoples stuff between balls and they were getting a right rollicking from the above boxes or bars (are they boxes?). there was also some quality banter between them and the aussies in the crowd icon_biggrin.gif i was in a huge patch of aussies actually... did you see the one with the long ginger hair and the yellow cap?!

Okay, I know where you were then - your end was definitely getting riotous well before ours was. It started off with McGrath getting a gentle ribbing and went up a few notches when Lee came down

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Clarke and Kasprowicz hit by kit theft

Michael Clarke and Michael Kasprowicz were the victims of thieves at the end of Australia's 95-run win over Leicestershire on Saturday.

Clarke had five favourite bats stolen after the case containing all his equipment was taken. A bag belonging to Kasprowicz containing shirts for the upcoming one-day series against England and Bangladesh, which carry the player's name on the back, was missing as well as distinctive yellow pads and training clothing. Kasprowicz also had some money stolen from the team hotel in Brighton last week.

Player equipment has become a popular collectors' items among cricket fans with a brisk, and often legitimate, trade carried out on various internet sites. But while the loss of a shirt is annoying, the theft of a bat, which for a top-order player such as Clarke would be designed to his specific instructions, is a more serious issue.

"Michael's case has been stolen," an Australia team spokeswoman told AFP on Sunday. "That contained his five bats, seven pairs of gloves, three pairs of spiked shoes, his yellow pads for the one-day series, two pairs of rubber-soled shoes - even his box has gone."

Australia meet England for the first time this season in a Twenty20 international at the Rose Bowl on Monday. If Clarke plays it looks like he will have to borrow equipment from his team-mates.

"We are speaking to them [Clarke's sponsors] about how quickly they can get replacements to him," the spokeswoman said. "But as for shirts, it's a public holiday in Australia tomorrow so I guess if he plays it will have to be with the wrong name.

The spokeswoman said the thefts must have taken place between the end of the match and the players getting on the coach. "We're not sure if the bags went on the coach and then went off it," she said. "There were so many people milling around and the security was quite lax. It's disappointing to think this sort of thing could stop touring teams playing at these sorts of grounds in future." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
