Abuzaglo scores 2 in under 21 debut despite playing as a central defender (for the first time in his career?). The St Pete's player scored in the 89th and 90th minute to seal a 5-0 win. Anerdov scored in the 32nd minute with a header and Pravaya came on late in the sub for the two other U21 debuts.

A closer match the final score would say, a very good game from everyone on the boys side. Golo had 14 tackles, Nicholas 2 goals, and Anerdov chipped in with one. Toothrotski had his best game of the season.

Spartak Moscow vs St Pete's Boys

Totally under pressure the whole game (59% possession for Spartak) St Pete's scored twice with fantastic goals to cancel out Spartak's 28th minute goal. Golo's 30rd yard ball into the run of Abuzaglo fell perfectly for the U21 Captain, and he half-volleyed a great goal in the 39th minute. Trying to find a counter-attacking goal while Beberov did amazingly well to keep Spartak from getting a 2nd, it finally came from a team move. Bull started it but the killer play was a criss-crossing exchange of crosses from Panstov and Jenkov that freed up Nicholas to fire home the latter's ball for the winner! The shocking win leaves the boys in sole posession of 2nd place on the table.

Final:1-2

MOM: Bezrodny (Spartak)

Enigmatic Abuzaglo to break silence!

Reserved Russian starlet Garzon Moriz Abuzaglo of St. Pete's Boys has spoken to the media for the first time in over two years today...

Abuzaglo had this to say, in his secretly developed English:

"I would like to thank everyone connected with the club for their support and adulation over the last few seasons. It has been a tough time for me personally as I struggled to learn a new language. I have endeavored to give my utmost upon the pitch at all times and I know you have appreciated this. I would also like to give a huge thank you to my manager for standing by me even though I had not spoken a word to him in two years. Sorry about the punch gaffer. And for those journalists looking for a headline, I give you this; "Abuzaglo make goal"

St Pete's Boys vs CSKA

In a win the fans of the club are calling magnificent, the boys continue to lay claim to the 2nd position on the table. In the 4th minute, Nicholas was given a lecture by the referee for diving and the talk seemed to enrage the player. Moments later, and the boys were on the board as Molotov hit his first goal of the season by heading home a Powersov corner. Nicholas got to a rebound just a few minutes later and tacked on the second. CSKA drew one back, but it was to be the only one that Toothrotski was going to let past him on a brilliant day. Abuzaglo turned home his 20th of the season in the 34th minute after Anerdov forced a great save. Abuzaglo forced a save just before the whistle, and this time Nicholas was there to tuck home the 4th on the day. Many chances were created by both teams in the 2nd half, but the boys couldn't find a 5th and Toothrotski wasn't going to let CSKA get another.

Zenith Peterburg vs St Pete's Boys

A hattrick for one of St Petersburg brightest talents: Maxim Astafjev of Zenith. The striker owned the back line of Dinamo and hit three before halftime. Toothrotski's form plummetted, and the rest of the club can't seem to figure out their derby opponents this year. Molotov scored in his third straight game late in the 2nd half.

Titov Named Russian Player of the Year

Yegor Titov, attacking midfielder of Leverkusen has been named Russian Player of the Year just ahead of his teammate Denis. Titov has been on fine form for his German club, and has recently been joined there by Denis, formerly of Dinamo Moscow. The third place finisher in the voting was up and coming striker/defender Garzon Moriz Abuzaglo whose impressive strike ratio this season, 26 goals in 27 appearances, including 6 in continental competition, seemed to impress voters. Abuzaglo has also recently made his debut for the Russian U21s and a full call-up can not be long in coming.

Contract status:

Only Abuzaglo refuses to negotiate a new contract with Dinamo St Peterburg, all others have signed new deals to continue with the club through 2009. Pravaya and Anerdov were the biggest winners in negotiations, going from 200 a week salaries to 1200 a week.

year end review . . .

And so the comparisons with Peter Crouch only grow in as the years go by. Pravaya is obviously . . . er. . . "talented" in the air, but he is quite surprising on the ground to, and can hold up play to bring other into the game and create space. Pravaya joins Anerdov as top earners on the team, possibly based more on thier undying dedication to the team, as much as thier percieved talent.

When asked about his view on Abuzaglo's impending move away from Dinamo St. Pete's - Pravay was quoted as saying

Nobody is bigger than the team. Abuzaglo has been a great servant to St. Pete's, and his performance in front of goal this year has been inspirational, but it would be madness to make a move away from the team when it is obvious that we are poised to make a huge noise on the international scene. We must all make our own way in the world. I would be supremely dissapointed to see him go.

A Dinamo Moscow bid for St Petersburg midfielder Misja was rejected today. This is not normally news, however the reason the club gave for the rejection was different. Rather than complete outright "We won't sell" the respons from the club was "We won't sell... to you, since you are in our division..." It is difficult to know how much to read into this.
