Sheffield United boot out Warnock + New unknown manager finally speaks!

There was much shock and disbelief around Bramall lane today as Sheffield United chairmain Derek Dooley

announced that the club would be parting company with manager Neil Warnock with immediate effect.

He went of to further shock the media and supporters alike when he annoucned that new man was already

identified and in fact, he was inside the lane taking charge at that very moment!

The waiting press pack held it's breath, who could the new man be? was he any good? why was Warnock

replaced? does anyone know when this will be done so we can all go for a pint?

Finally Dooley piped up again........"Ladies and Gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to present to you

the new manager of Sheffield United football club.....................Mr Steff Browning".

*stunned silence*

Steff: So any questions then?

Reporter 1 : Who in the utter **** are you?

Steff: I'm the new manager you moron, didn't you just hear what Mr Dooely said?, keep up man!

Reporter 2 : Your not qualified to take over such a high profile position are you?

Steff: I believe my record, or rather lack of a record speaks volumes about how under qualified

I am for this job, but did you see the wages they offered me? I sure as hell wasn't going to say no!

Reporter 3: What are your plans for the club?, where do you see this team going?

Steff: Well it has been brought to my attention that my fellow lowlife over at Southampton,

Andrew Hepburn, has been making outrageous claims that the saints will be in the Premiership next season

and then in the champions league soon after that.............he's obviously at the glue, but as for this

side I do beleive with a bit of work we have the potential to challenge for at least a playoff spot

given a bit of luck, and with a bit of luck we can win promotion this season.........no promises though.

Fan at the back You have to get Tonge, Kabba, Kenny on to new deals!

Steff: Don't tell me how to do my job, do I come to your work and tell you how to sweep up? Ok

thats it no more questions, I have work to be getting on with.

After Browning left the press conference he met Neil Warnock who had just finished clearing his desk and

was on his way out of the ground, Warnock had these kind words for the new manager "don't worry about

taking my job, it's what the club wanted so grab this opportunity with both hands, me? yeah sure I'm

gutted to be out of management just now, but I'll just wait until Rob Perry gets the bullet at Cardiff

and I'll be right back in there again, just you wait and see.

Well after finally getting rid of that press lot and that loser Warnock I set about assessing my squad

and getting rid of some deadwood.

First out the door was that muppet Sturat McCall, he may be a good guy and a decent assistant manager

but I just kept picturing him in that Rangers strip - he had to go icon_biggrin.gif

Billercay came a knocking for the services of Stephen Quinn, I took them up on their kind offer and

pocketed (quite literally) 18k for the player

Next up was the S.O.S from that nutcase Perry "I need a defender do you have anyone I can bid for?"

"erm........I have Unsworth.........just take him off my hands and get out of my office".

So offically thats David Unsworth to Cardiff on a free transfer - reality is he was begged from me.

Finally on the outward bound was Haidong Hao on a free transfer - he quickly hired by desperate Cardiff

manager Rob Perry as a coach.

Yeah time to get scouting and spend all the lovely money the board gave me!

There were loads of players who could be signed but the sad reality is that not many of them would even

consider signing for Sheffield United. First thing was first, get a new assistant manager to replace

Stuart McCall, and we got a one here, ALL HAIL THE CANTONA \O/ and yes I freely admit he was signed on

the basis of his name alone and not his ability.

After a bit more scouting around Europe I had identified Cesar Jimenez as a good signing, in went the

offer to Zaragoza for 400k and back came their acceptance icon_biggrin.gif, this players should prove an adequate

replacement for Unsworth.

And the only other player to join up for now was Hungarian striker Krisztian Kenesei on a free transfer.

With all that out of the way, it was time to find out of this lot could actually play or not, so we

ventured forth will some reasonable optimism towards our pre season friendlies.

Saturday 16th July 2005: Chelmsford v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 7-0 win

Chelmsford were crushed in a lightning blitz by my lads here as they racked up their seven goals inside

the first half!

Neil Shipperley got us underway in the 7th minute, Phil Jagielka got the second in 12mins, Alan Quinn

make it three inside 24mins, this had all the makings of a rout by this point, 3 minutes later Shipperly

grabbed his second goal and the teams fourth, Shipperley completed his hat track inside 40mins with a

stunning volley for the fifth.Garry Flitcroft added number six in the 44th minute and Michael Tonge

completed the magnificant seven right on the stroke of half time.

Second half was a snooze fest, and apparently both teams went to sleep as well, nothing to see here,

move along please.

Tuesday 19th July 2005: Nottm Forest v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 2-1 win

Nothing worth any note happened in this match for 64mins. NOTHING, and even then the only thing that

happened in the 64th minute was Michael Tonge going off injured, still it made a nice change from the

crap play that had been served up prior to that. The game did find a little bit of life in the 70th

minute when Paul Ifill was clattered by some Forest diddy inside the penalty box, the rest had no

hesitation as he pointed to the spot, Ifill dusted himself down and converted the kick himself.

Gary Holt pulled Forest level in the 84th minute but Ad Akinbiyi won the game for us with his 89th

minute strike after rounding the keeper \o/

Saturday 23rd July 2005: Bristol Rovers v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 2-0 win

Crap match punctured by only two moments of any note, 45mins Danny Webber scored, 52 mins Phil Jagielka

scores.........the end.

Wednesday 27th July 2005: Rotheram v Sheff Utd : Friendly : 3-0 win

Goals from Steven Kabba (3mins) Alan Quinn (46mins) and Michael Tonge (70mins) were enough to see off a

lacklustre Rotheram side who never really looked threatening our goal at any time during the match.

Saturday 30th July 2005: Sheff Utd v Parma : Friendly : 2-1 defeat

A chance for my lads to test themselves against one of Europe's big name sides, in Italian Giants Parma.

Marco Delvecchio opened the scoring with his 12th minute penalty, three minutes later Bernardo Corradi

doubled the advantage for the visitors.

Ade Akinbiyi pulled one back for us in the 42nd minute, but Parma were able to see the rest of the game

out comfortably and in reality they never really needed to get out of second gear.

Wednesday 3rd August 2005: Sheff Utd v Arsenal : Friendly : 1-0 win \o/

The mighty Arsenal visited the lane and most people were exepecting a hammering here, or at least a good

game, truth is they got neither, Alan Quinn scored in the 3rd minute and the game instantly fizzled out

:\ ........no seriously it did.

And now finally all the rubbish is out of the way !

It's time to start on the long and hard road to the premiership........or at least the playoffs!

The players were ready, I was ready, the fans were...........erm still protesting outside the ground

over my appointment, but thats a kinda ready, right?

Saturday 6th August 2005 : Stoke v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-1 win

My first game in charage and I was hoping for a good result to hopefully shut some of those whinning

fans up, After 11 minutes though it looked like it was going to be an uphill battle, as Sambegou

Bangoura gave stoke the lead with a delightful litte chip over my helpless keeper icon_frown.gif

Nick Montgomery pulled us back into the match in the 42minute with his low hard shot.

At half time I got the players in and hammered into their heads that they could win this match, at least

one of them took my advice on board, Krisztian Kenesei came out 2nd half with a point to prove, he

grabbed his debut goal in the 55th minute and capped off a good performance with his second goal in the

90th minute.

A 3-1 win icon_biggrin.gif, I bet you fans love me now? ......oh no you don't .. ok then icon_frown.gif

Tuesday 9th August 2005: Brighton v Sheff Utd: Coca-Cola Championship: 2-0 win

This one was a case of the late late late late late show for us here, both sides had plenty of chances

in this one and it looked like it was heading for an (entertaining) 0-0 draw.

But it wasn't until the 88th minute before the ball found the back of the net thanks to Neil

Shipperley's right boot. Steven Kabba got on the end of the ball as the Brighton keeper played it from

outside his own box allowing Kabba a shot at an open goal from 45 yards.

Saturday 13th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Reading : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0

Quite possibly the biggest robbery since the great train robbery here, how Reading never won this match

I'll never know, my lot only managed on shot on target during the whole game and never EVER looked like

threatening Reading's goal after that.

Reading were robbed......But i'll take it \o/

Saturday 20th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Ipswich : Coca-cola Championship : 0-0 draw

Ohhhh another fecking 0-0 draw, this time it was down to my strikers inability to take advantage of the

chances that came their way as Ipswich never managed a single shot on target during the entire 90 mins.

Rubbish icon13.gif

Wednesday 24th August 2005: Darlington v Sheff Utd : Carling Cup First Round : 3-1 win

Simon Johnson fired Darlington into a shock lead in the 4th minute, their joy was short lived though as

Alan Quinn levelled for United a mere minute later. Sheff Utd now pressed forward in great numbers as

they attempted to claim the lead and the breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Steven Kabba got on

the end of a Michael Tonge cross and smashed the ball low and hard past the keeper \o/

Things went from bad to worse for Darlington as Matthew Clarke was sent off just on the stoke of half

time for what can only be described as a shocking tackle.

Down 2-1 and down to ten, things weren't looking bright for Darlington at half time.

The second half started pretty slowly but the result was never in doubt as the Sheff Utd defence seemed

resolved to never be breached by Darlington again and in the 64th minute Alan Quinn put the result

beyond doubt as he grabbed his second of the game and United's 3rd. After that it was just a case of us

seeing out the remainder of the match as we marched on to the second round draw.

Saturday 27th August 2005: Watford v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-0 win

This one was another late late late show as things looked like to be heading for another 0-0 draw until

my players realised they were indeed allowed to score goals, in fact, that they were encouraged to score

goals!

Neil Shipperley finally got the picture as the netted in the 79th minute. Steven Kabba popped up from

nowhere in the 88th minute to grab the second goal and Shipperley completed the lateness of it all with

his second goal in the 89th minute \o/

Monday 29th August 2005: Sheff Utd v Leicester : 1-1 draw

On reflection both teams stuggled to really get going at all in this match.

Things did look bright at the start from Sheffield United as Krisztian Kenesei fired them into a fourth

minute lead, but if we're being honest it was a mistake from Leciester defence that let him in rather

than great play from ourselves. The same can be said for Iain Hume's goal for Leicester, shocking

defending allowed him to practically walk the ball into the net, the goals seemed to wake up the defence

of both sides and the match deveoped into one boring stalemate after that.

Saturday 10th September 2005: Cardiff v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-2 win

Up against one of the weaker teams in the division here (Rob you know its true!), although that being

said Cardiff certainly didn't play like a supposed weaker team.

Krisztian Kenesei opened the scoring for us in the 14th minute icon_cool.gif

This however only served to anger Cardiff and they would hold a 2-1 lead at half time through goals from

Mamadou Diallo (34mins) and Joe Flurry (43 mins).

The team talk at half time was full off abuse, I mean, come on losing to Cardiff? it's not acceptable is

it? Alan Quinn seemed to take the team talk to heart as he levelled the game within two minutes of the

restart. Both teams pushed a probed at each other looking to grab a third and steal all three points,

the goal that would eventually seal the match come for Sheff Utd as Steven Kabba found himself free of

the last defender and kept his cool to beat the keeper from close range.

Tuesday 13th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Hull : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-0 win

Not a great game here, but an effiecent performance from Sheff Utd to take all three points.

Krisztian Kenesei opened the scoring with a bullet header in the 8th minute. Alan Wright converted a

39th minute spot kick after Kabba was fouled inside the box. We had more chances and could have went on

to score even more in the end, but we done enough which is all I ask for icon_biggrin.gif.

Saturday 17th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Crewe : 2-2 draw

This one could have went either way, instead it ended all square icon_frown.gif

Kenny Lunt (yeah I can think of another name for him that rhymes with lunt tbh) opened the scoring for Crewe in the 9th minute. The game was end to end stuff until half time, when finally Sheff Utd's Phil Ifill levelled the game. Crewe's Adie Moses get his ass sent off in the 45 minute not helping his side's cause. Sheff Utd pushed and pushed to take advantage of their numerical advantage and finally the breakthrough was made in the 74th minute when Ade Akinbiyi grabbed the goal \o/.

Things looked all bright and rosey in the Bramall lane garden until my defenders switched off and let Billy Jones in right on the final whiste to throw away two points angryfire.gif

Wednesday 21st September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Bristol City : Carling Cup 2nd Round : 2-0 win

Another efficent performance from the Sheff Utd saw them advance to the third round of the Carling cup. Alan Quinn grabbed the opener in the 6th minute. Both teams played decent enough football without creating anything in the way of chances right up until half time.

The second half had no incidents of much note, except for Gary Flitcroft's 55th minute goal \o/

Saturday 24th September 2005: Southampton v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-1 loss

This match was always going only to have one winner, and sadly it wasn't Sheff Utd icon_frown.gif

Kenwyne Jones opened the scoring for Hepburn's saints in the 35th minute. Into the second half and the saints doubled their advantage through Nathan Dyer in the 58th minute. Sheffield United pulled a goal back through an Alan Wright penalty in the 90th minute, but it was far too little far too late.

Tuesday 27th September 2005 : Sheff Utd v Q.P.R : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw

Dull 0-0 draw erm.........thats all there is to say (seeing as I wasn't here for this game and nothing happened in the match for me to even make stuff up)

Sunday 2nd October 2005 : Leeds v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-0 loss

We got well and truely hammered here then eh?

Richard Cresswell opened the scoring in the 9th minute as he took advantage of a mis-communication in the Sheff Utd defence icon_eek.gif, Cresswell was on target again in the 22nd minute, although it wasn't panic in the defence this time that allowed him to score, it was pure skill as he took on and beat three players before lobbing the keeper to make the score 2-0 to Leeds. Robbie Blake completed the rout on the stroke of half time icon_frown.gif

That was it really, come the second half Leeds knew the job was done and they were more than happy to contain us for the last 45mins.

Saturday 15th October 2005 : Sheff Utd v Burnley : Coca-Cola Championship : 3-2 win

Fans didn't have to wait long for the goals to start flowing in this one as Kriztian Kenesei grabbed the opener in the 2nd minute, when then had to wait until the 28th minute for another goal and this time it fell to Burnley as Danny Graham pulled them level. It was that man Krisztain Kenesei who struck again as he converted a 36th minute penalty to restore Sheff Utd's lead.Things went from bad to worse for Burnley as Leigh Rosier was sent off in the 68th minute. Kenesei was on target again as he made it 3-1 in the 69th minute. Danny Graham pulled one back for Burnley in the 79th minute but they were never going to threaten Sheff Utd's hold on the three points.

So there we have it eh? No one gave us a chance at the start of the season but yet we find ourselfs in a playoff spot \o/

If things keep up like this we should continue to stumble towards a playoff place icon_biggrin.gif

And yeah I do realise this is utterly late, but due to uni work and then my computer getting the electronic version of Aids, I haven't really been able to do it before now.

A new season is about to get underway and with everyone managing in the Championship, the boys of EFB are all looking forward to a busy season of head to head encounters, all looking to prove themselves against each other. Paul Rouch has bravely made it public that he expects nothing less than automatic promotion this season, how will the team perform under such expectations? Ladies and Gentlemen, its time to find out!!

palace_home.pngCrystal Palace Vs Southampton Southampton_home.png

6th August 2005

The opening day of the season and the games don’t get much tougher than a visit from Andy Hepburns’ Saints! Clear favourites to clinch promotion this season and very busy in the transfer market picking up the finest talent in the Scottish divisions, Southampton probably fancied there chances at Selhurst Park. Kenwyne Jones probably added to that feeling when he slotted away the opening goal in the visitors favour to put the south coast club ahead after only 5 minutes had elapsed icon_eek.gif Andy Johnson began to put some doubt in the visitors minds though when he smashed home the equaliser less than 5 minutes later which obviously had an influence in being named the Coca Cola man of the Match at the end of the game . Palace showed that they were able to match Southampton every step of the way and both sides were impossible to separate at the break as the went in tied. The second half saw the introduction of a young Scot signing, but this one was a Palace player, Richie Foran, and his appearance proved decisive as he scored the winner 7 minutes before the whistle to give Palace an opening day victory and bragging rights over fellow EFB manager Andy Hepburn icon_biggrin.gif

Sometimes EFB is like a number 17 bus, you wait ages to play a fellow EFB manager, and then two come at once (ooh err). After dispatching Andy Hepburns’ Southampton, Rob Perry rolled up at Selhurst Park with Cardiff! Palace looked in control early on and Andy Johnson was quicker to get on the scoresheet this time notching his opening goal at 8 minutes. Jon Macken doubled the advantage before 20 minutes had elapsed and Cardiff looked in trouble! But the manager had a reshuffle taking off the ineffectual Diallo and bringing on the hot prospect that is Cameron Jerome. This served to wake Zizi Roberts up and he woke up so well that he scopred two goals to level up the game before the interval! The second half was a very tight game and it must be said that when Andy Johnson scored his second goal in the 89th minute, it was a very cruel blow to the Cardiff team, fans and manager, with so little time to recover, which of course they didn’t. This meant that Paul Rouch had taken 2 EFB manager scalps in his first 2 gam,es of the season which was an excellent springboard for the new season icon_smile.gif Andy Johnson was once again nominated as the man of the match after scoring his brace icon_cool.gif

After two intense head to heads with fellow EFB managers it was a welcome relief to be able to focus on the next match without all the incumbent distractions icon_wink.gif Andy Johnson kept up his prolific scoring with the opening strike in just 10 minutes. New signing Michael Gottwald scored from the spot after 23 minutes after a foul in the area. In the second half Andy johnson put the eagles 3 ahead with his 5th goal in 3 games. Tom Soares completed the rout and made it 4-0 at the circle. A local derby with West London rivals QPR. It was a game that the Palace manager had stated he expected to win in the media, and his team did not let him down. The ever improving Tom Soares grabbed the first goal in what was an unusually quiet game for the prolific Andy Johnson. Michael grabbed his second of the season and the teams second and final goal of the game on the half hour. Ian Holloway told his team to go out and fight in the 2nd half but QPR’s Ian Evatt took him too literally and ended getting himself sent off. A surprisingly tight game in the Carling cup against lower league opposition. Andy Johnson was obviously fired up after drawing a blank in the first game and scored 2 in the first 5 minutes icon_eek.gif A ridiculous penalty was given against the Palace and the titties managed to convert it via Robert Walker just before the break. Johnson secured his hatrick and restored the 2 goal buffer after the restart but Junior Agogo (sounds like a hip hop star!) decided to make a game of it and pulled one back to make it a very nervous last half hour or so! The Eagles held on though and progressed to the 2nd round! No surprise with the man of the match award as AJ is suitable rewarded for his hatrick icon_biggrin.gif

Back to the championship race and Palace are lloking good with a superb 100% record! This game was a masterclass in taking your chances :thup : Palace were constantly under pressure from the visiting Yorkshire men, but on the few occasions they managed to break out of their own half, they managed to score! The scoreline flattered the home side but there were no complaints from the manager! A sign of Leeds dominance which was not apparent in the scoreline was the award of the Man of the Match Champagne to Gabor Kiraly, the Palace Keeper, who had been on superb form to maintain the required clean sheet! Marcus Berg showed great composure with his goal, on the break he sloted home 1 on 1. The second hald saw Danny Granville grab a rare gaol to palace advantage and Richie Foran converted a penalty to put a nice but undeserved veneer on the scoreline icon_eek.gif

If the last game was a masterclass in taking your chances this match offered two lessons, Lesson 1 was how to miss loads of chances as ably demonstrated by the Palace forwards throughout the 90 minutes of this game! Unlike the last game Palace were totally dominant and unlike the last game failed to make the most of their opportunities icon15.gif lesson 2 was about the tactical advantage of scoring the opening goal seconds before the final whistle! Yes, The Eagles finally hit the back of the net with a scrappy goal from Michael Gottwald with effectively the last kick of the game to secure the three points and the 100% record for August! Awards

Tom Soares deservedly picked up the award for the Young Player of the Month helping to put the Palace at the head of the Championship with a 100% record in all competitions icon_cool.gif The surprise was that the Manager Paul Rouch did not pick up an award, and Andy Johnsons many goals did not earn him either a goal or player of the month award icon13.gif

Motty Fact

Palace picked up the man of the match in every single game in August, now that is good!

Norwich's Start to the season .

sheffwed_home.png Vsnorwich_away.png

Pettigrew's first game in charge and the fans eagerly anticipated this game so they could find out a little bit more of what the new Norwich manager's style would be. The fans were not dissapointed with his show. After just 6 minutes Norwich's Adam Drury scored from a corner and 10 minutes later Jurgen Colin done the same to go 2-0 up after 17 minutes. 2 minutes after Sheffield Wednesday replied with a superb goal from Buxton. Norwich dominated most of the half and it paid off when in the 48th minute Duno scored a superb strike from outside the box but Buxton again replied almost straight away and the teams went in Norwich 3-2 up. In the start of the second half Robert Earnshaw lobbed the keeper from 30 yards to go 4-2 up. Sheff Wed then dominated as the Norwich players started to tire. Matthew Tudgay scored in the 68th minute and then Chris Brunt scored in the 86th minute to make it 4 all . The game ended this way and it was a fair result for both teams.

Final Score : Sheff Wed 4 - 4 Norwich

Man Of The Match : Robert Earnshaw

luton_home.png Vsnorwich_away.png

After Norwichs attacking display against Sheff Wednesday , the Norwich fans went into the game feeling very confident . The game was very even in the first half with neither team having a good attempt at goal. In the second half Norwich came out flying and Carlos Garcia scored after 63 minutes with a whizzing effort from the edge of the box. Norwich took control with Robert Earnshaw scored after 76 minutes from a Corner when he popped up to score from the penalty area. Norwich saw this game out and won comfortably.

Luton 0 - 2 Norwich

Man Of The Match : Carlos Garcia

norwich_home.png Vscoventry_away.png

Norwich went into this game favourites after they beat Luton in their last game . Norwich broke the deadlock after 21 minutes when Robert Earnshaw beat the Coventry defence with his fantastic spped and slotted it past the keeper to make it 1-0 to Norwich. Norwich controlled the first half and should of scored before half time when Robert Earnshaw skimmed the bar. Coventry then came out after half time looking the birghter of the two teams with substitute Don Hutchinson putting the ball past Paul Gallacher after 65 minutes and than again in the 85th minute to win Coventry the game. Pettigrew was very dissapointed with his teams second half performance and let the press know this after the match.

norwich_home.png Vsderby_away.png

Derby were yet to win a game but went into the game with Norwich feeling they were in with a chance after Norwich faultered against Coventry in the last game losing 2-1 . Pettigrew had given his team a hard time in the press recently after the teams poor performance. Norwich looked up for the game when they came out and missing twice in the first 15 minutes. Norwich's Rob Earnshaw scored right on the stroke of halt time with the teams going in 1-0 to Norwich. Derby never had a sniff at goal with Norwich controlling the whole game and Aythami tipped off Norwich's fantastic performance with a absolute screamer from 35 yards to make it 2-0.

Norwich 2 - 0 Derby

Man Of The Match : Rob Earnshaw

Boston Utd Vs Norwich League Cup !

Norwich went into this game feeling extra confident after their last win over Derby . Norwich controlled the first half without scoring but in the second half Norwich saw Scott McDonald get his first 3 goals for the club whilst getting a hattrick . He scored in the 49th , 57th and 69th minute. Scott McDonald certainly showed his worth with Robert Earnshaw being out witha knee injury.

Score Norwich 3 - 0 Boston

Man Of The Match : Scott McDonald

wolves_home.png Vsnorwich_away.png

Wolves were flying high sitting 2nd in the league just behind the unstoppable Crystal Palace. Could Norwich be a match for the mighty Wolves ??? Norwich started the game dreadfully with a first half hatrick from Tomas Frankowski to put Wolves 3-0 up and shatter hopes of Norwich moving up the league and close to an automatic promotion place. Pettigrew went mental at the players at half time throwing Bottles of water to football boots around the dressing room. The Norwich players came out fighting , obviously the gaffers half time team talk had done the trick . Leandre Gioda popped up with a Header and scored after 50 minutes . Robert Earnshaw then lead the line in attack for Norwich and scored in the 76th minute to make it 2-3 . Earnshaw was like a man possessed and scored a goal in the 86th minute to steal a point from a game Wolves should of finished at half time.

Score: Wolves 3 - 3 Norwich

Man Of The Match : Tomas Frankowski

Guys I have little time as it is to do match reports let alone describe how each match went. If I were to do match reports as you are trying to force me to do it would probably slow the flow of the game during the sessions because that will be the only time I'll be able to do them. Try getting up at 5:45am and going to bed at 12pm 5 days a week and juggle your social life around that time frame and you will soon find out that the way I currently lay my reports is better and before you say it I'm out most of the time during the weekend.

Browning shows lack of experience and players show lack of quality as Sheffield United plunge

downward

The last few weeks have not been good for all connected with Sheffield United as the club seems to have

pressed the self destruct button, the question now must be, can they stop this alarming slump and

quickly?

Heres a look at the abysmal run that has saw the club slide down the Championship table :

Tuesday 18th October 2005: Preston v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola championship : 2-1 loss

The mighty slide begins!

While we fancied our chances against Preston, they obviously had other ideas icon_frown.gif

Dave Nugent fired them into the lead in the 21 st minute to give them the goal their play had threatned

and if I'm being honest, deserved as well. We could have been three or four down by the time they half

time whistle was blown but good excellet goal keeping kept us in the match.

The second half was far better from our point of view as we pressed Preston hard in our search for an

equaliser and it finally came through Alan Quinn in the 76th minute. My players seemed to think they had

done enough for the day and switched off soon after this goal, this allowed Preston to grab the win with

a goal in the dying seconds of the match from Chris Sedgwick.

The moral of the story? YOU PLAY THE GAME UNTIL THE FINAL WHISTLE angryfire.gif

Saturday 22nd October 2005 : Luton v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-2 draw

Luton started the match brightly and it only took eight minutes for them to take the lead through Dean

Morgan, this seemed to wake my lot up and four minutes later we pulled level through a Paul Ifill strike

\o/ Ade Akinbiyi gave us the lead with his 35th minute strike.

In the second half both teams had some great chances and it would have been fair to say that the match

was finely poised and could go either way but yet again as the match was drawing to a close my players

switched off allowing Dean Morgan to grab an 89th leveller for Luton. Another 2 points thrown away icon_mad.gif

Wednesday 26th October 2005 : Sheff Utd v Watford : Carling Cup Third Round : 1-0 loss

We pounded and pounded at Watford's goal and created several great chances to have this match sewn up by

half time but sadly it wasn't to be. In the second half we continued our assualt on the goalmouth but

continued to be denied by a combination of poor finishing and great goalkeeping keep us at bay and yet

again my players swtiched off at the end of the game! This gave Gavin Mahon the oppotunity to get in

behind the defence and score the goal that knocked us out of the cup in the 88th minute.

Saturday 29th October 2005 : Sheff Utd v Coventry : Coca-Cola Championship : 1-1 draw

Another woeful lacklusture peformance from my lads here icon_frown.gif

Things looked bright in the 12th minute when Krisztian Kenesei opened the scoring for us \o/

Again the team went to sleep and the only miracle was that Coventry were unable to take advantage of our

slackness until the 70th minute when Dele Adebola broke clear of the last defender, rounded the keeper

and slotted the ball home.

P!sh icon_frown.gif

Tuesday 1st November 2005: Sheff Utd v Norwich Coca-Cola Championship : 1-0 loss

Norwich manager Sandy Pettigrew took it upon himself to speak out in the press before this game telling

them he "expected an easy win", sad fact is, his Norwich side were fortunate to win this one, well lets

face it though according to the msn grapevine Pettigrew himself is a Heart of Midlothian fan (who just

in case you didn't know, lost to a poor Celtic side last night icon14.gif) and he is obviously trying to

take a lead from his hero Mad Vlad. In reality this match was possibly the dullest match of the season

for 80minutes with both teams creating very little in the way of the chances, Sheff Utd had a few good

chances to win the game before the end (as did Norwich) before Ryan Jarivs managed to finally get the

breakthrough in the 90th minute.

Media sources reported after the match that Pettigrew had placed £50 on Jarvis as the first scorer + a

draw at half time + Norwich to win at full time at odds of 50000/1 winning himself a total of

£2.5million.

Saturday 5th November 2005 : Sheff Wed v Sheff Utd : Coca-Cola Championship : 2-1 defeat

Remember remember the 5th of November!

It's the day Sheff Utd lost yet another fecking game icon_mad.gif

With no love lost between either team this was always going to be a tense affair and it was!

Right up until the 41st minute when Chris Brunt broke free and opened the scoring, and before the Sheffield United players could compose themselves Deon Burton had given Wednesday a 2-0 lead with 43 minutes on the clock. Wednesday should have been out of sight before the hour mark but were unable to finish, Steven Kabba pulled one back for United in the 85th minute but by then it was too late to make any sort of comeback.

Saturday 19th November 2005 : Sheff Utd v Derby : Coca-Cola Championship : 0-0 draw

Crap 0-0 draw, we should have won but it would appear my strikers have gone on strike icon_frown.gif

Thats all I can really say about this.

So we haven't won a game in the last seven and are going down quicker than $2 hooker icon_frown.gif

This has to stop now or any hope of success this season will be gone.

So the Rookie manager who was sensationally announced as Ian Dowie’s successor at the start of the season has finally won the fans round! At last, Palace move in to top gear and Leeds are unable to keep up as the thoroughbred that is AJ runs amok and plunders a hatrick! Leeds did equalise after his first goal when Nathan Blake headed past Speroni to give the Elland road faithful brief hop but Palace were a class above and although Andy Johnsons hatrick earned him yet another man of the match award, Marcu Berg also had a great game grabbing a goal and assisting AJ admirably icon_biggrin.gif

29th October 2005

Some days no matter how well the opposition play, everything goes right in front of goal and the scoreline doesn’t quite match what the fans see! Brighton must have wondered what went wrong as the finishing power of Palace left a very embarrassed and humbled home side scratching their heads. AJ as early as the 4th minute neatly sidestepped the defence and slotted home. Brighton were level 4 minutes later, but then Macken struck a sweet strike from the edge of the box and nearly bust the net to re-establish the lead, 10 minutes later Macken was celebrating again as he headed the away side 3-1 up. Rihilati secured his goal bonus 2 minutes later and Johnson made it 5-1 with just over half an hour elapsed. A shell shocked did pull another one back when Kazim-Richards netted, but the second half saw Marcus Berg put himself on the score sheet and Macken crown his hatrick with a sweet lob to really rub it in for the south coast club!the roar of the Eagles drowning the shriek of the Seagulls icon14.gif

Where Eagles dare

The season is unfolding like a dream for the Palace fans. They must have feared the worst when Simon Jordan replaced the highly regarded Ian Dowie with a rookie no name, but the change has so far proved to be a very successful with Palace moving into November with an unbeaten record in all competitions still standing!!

palace_home.png Crystal Palace Vs Millwall millwall_away.png

1st November 2005

The Pikeys visit to Selhurst park was successful on and off the field. There was no fighting off the pitch between the rival fans, and the Millwall showed little fight on the patch as Palace steamrollered their way to yet another victory! Richie Foran scored the opener just past the half hour mark which sent the Palace in to the break a goal to the good! Danny Granville had to go off injured in the second half after a clumsy challenge from Millwall’s Matt Lawrence. Foran grabbed his second just before Matt Lawrence saw red and was dismissed from the field of play. Jon Macken sealed the win just before the final whistle and Richie Foran picked up the Man of the Match champagne for his braceicon_smile.gif

Another home game for the Eagles and this time it was Reading visiting. Reading shocked the hosts when they had the temerity to score the opening goal on 25 minutes with a nicely crafted move from Lero Lita! Palace responded well though and Marcus Berg grabbed the deserved equaliser just before the break. The second half was very even game with both sides going for the winner, but it was Palace that finally got the breakthrough as Andy Johnson scored the winner with just 2 minutes left on the clock, earning himself yet another Man of the Match Magnum icon_biggrin.gif

A much tighter and tougher game than the previous 3. Ipswich threatened throughout and Palace had to be at their defensive best, Marcus Berg scored just before the half, and it proved to be enough to give Palace the three points on the day! Rihilati was pivotal in securing the points as he held the midfield and defence together, which is why he was rewarded with the man of the match nomination icon_cool.gif

Marcus Berg maintained his recent goal scoring form to put the Eagles ahead late in the second half, followed by a Tony Popovic goal from the penalty spot to give Palace another win. Jobi McAnuff ensured that Palace had a clean sweep of all of the Man of the Match Awards for November with a creative midfield performance icon14.gif

After Norwich's late comeback against Wolves in the last game their fans were feeling rather excited at the prospect of playing a poor Plymouth side. Norwich started the game poorly and did not create many chances with the best effort flying over the bar with a shot from Robert Earnshaw. In the second half Pettigrew's half time team talk obviously had no effect on the players as they looked like they were happy with a 0 - 0 draw. Poor game and Norwich should of done alot better.

Score : Norwich 0 - 0 Plymouth

Man Of The Match : Hansey Aljofree

norwich_home.png Vspalace_away.png

Crystal Palace's Paul Rouch obviously came to Norwich playing for a draw as they sat with 10 men behind the ball at all times and just kicked every Norwich player in sight. Sandy Pettigrews attacking "Flair Football" had no affect on Palace's bunch of boring bruisers. After the match Sandy Pettigrew told the press he was not impressed with the manner Palace went about the game and thought the referee had a poor game as he did not book Palace players for persistent fouling . Paul Rouch had obviously had a few to many drinks by the time he went to the press conference as he talked about NOrwich defending the entire game, how wrong he was ... ...

Score : Norwich 0 - 0 Crystal Palace

Man Of The Match : Mkhonza

brighton_home.png Vsnorwich_away.png

Norwich had a point to prove after Paul Rouch's comments on Norwich's style of football . Pettigrew set out the way he normally does with an attacking 4 4 2 with McDonald and Earnshaw up front . The first half was slow and not many chances were created by either side as the teams went in at half time 0 - 0. Norwich came out looking fired up and ready to with with Jurgen Colin crossing a ball for Scott Mcdonald to place in the bottom right hand corner of the net . Robert Earnshaw then got on the end of a Colin corner to make it 2-0 to Norwich . The game ended 2 - 0 and Norwich won it quite comfortably.

Score : Brighton 0 - 2 Norwich

Man Of The Match : Jurgen Colin

Sandy Pettigrew then realized that he needed some sleep and will continue to do the rest on this on Sunday. Pettigrew was seen out on Friday night absolutely hammered and then also seen at a pub on Saturday. . . . . more news to come soon

Several of the Reading players are playing extremely well but one player in particular has been impressive, Vincent Pericard. The summer signing has emerge as 2nd placed top goal scorer on the Reading Books and the fans are enjoying watching his performances. Reading Boss Tony Hall is also pleased with his performances, especially is man of the match performance in the 4-0 demolition of Sheffield United who were just simply outclassed. Norwich did not dissapoint the travelling fans when Robert Earnshaw darted past the West Brom defence and slotted the ball home after just 9 minutes , Norwich then went on to dominate the remainder of the game with another goal from Jurgen Colin in the 54th minute . West Brom fianlly had a chance in the 90th minute when Jonathan Greening struck the ball from 30 yards to get a consilation goal as the game ended 2-1.

Man Of The Match : Dickson Etuhu

Yet again another new manager came to Norwich and went defencive trying to hold out for a draw and that he did Tony Hall's Reading came not really playing the lovely game of football and just sitting back soaking up pressure without attempting to attack. Pettigrew's Norwich were powerless to break down the 11 men behind the ball and even as the Norwich gaffer sent on an extra striker they still could not break down the back 6 of Reading. This game was a poor show of football as it ended 0-0 with not many chances going to either side.

Norwich 0 - 0 Reading

Man Of The Match : Bjarni Gunnarsson

Norwich went into this game favourites against a mid table Stoke side. Dicksen Etuhu for the first goal for Norwich after 23 minutes with a Header from a Robert Earnshaw free kick.Stoke then replied after 37 minutes with a counter attack and Bangoura getting onto it and scoring. In The send half neither team looked like scoring but than Dicksen Etuhu was the man for Norwich as he scored in the 84th minute with a typical header from the big man. Norwich will be happy with this win.

Norwich and Watford both fighting for a play off spot at this moment and time and this game was certainly always going to be eye catching. Watford were 3-0 after just 24 minutes with a hatrick from on loan star James Keene which shocked Pettigrew and his players. Robert Earnshaw then pulled one back after 37 minutes to give Norwich a glmour of hope. Norwich came out fired up in the second half and Sergey Kisliy scored 2 minutes into the second half to make it a tense finish but Norwich could not get another as Watford held out for their 3-2 win.

Norwich expected this game to be a walkover against a struggling Cardiff side. Cardiff against all odds scored after 3 minutes with a goal from Diallo and then again after 9 minutes from Lassissi. Pettigrew was clearly not happy with this and was shouting and screaming instructions at the team but they did not look interested. Scott McDonald then scored to pull one back after 30 minutes and then Danny Szetela after 44 minutes . The teams went in 2-2 at half time and Pettigrew clearly not happy . The press said they heard rumours of what Pettigrew's Half Time talk was like and he was said to of shouted "What the hell are you guys playing at its Cardiff not Chelsea , get your finger out your arse and go play bloody football before i fine you all". His half time talk obviously had no effect as the game ran out of time and ended 2-2.

Cardiff came into this game feeling more confident after the last game against Norwich ending in a draw but Norwich manager Sandy Pettigrew refused to speak to the media before the game .The first half was very tense and no goals were scored and not many chances created. In the second half Cardiff went 1-0 up after 58 minutes which enfuriated the Norwich manager . The Norwich players looked worried as they did not know what would happen if they lost but then Norwich's star man Robert Earnshaw scored after 70 minutes and then again in the 90th minute to secure a place in the next round for Norwich.

Norwich came out even more attacking in the second half and got their rewards for all theri nice play in the 90th minute when young starlet Ryan Jarivs stepped up and slotted the ball away to make it 1-0 and that was the end of play.

Yes folks, after a week away from it all Southampton manager Andrew Hepburn is back and ready to lead the Saints to the Premiership once again. Hepburn has been away on a well needed holiday and has come back looking brilliant and in the mood to do some damage with the Saints. He commented,

"Yes I have been away on a well needed holiday to Tenerife to fry myself and relax. I don't know how my team got on while I was away as I have lost my assistants contact details and did read any newspapers etc while I was away. I am sure he will have done pretty well but now I am back and raring to go. The first game I have back is against paul Rouch's Palace team, unbeaten and all that. Well they will not be unbeaten after my Saints team beat them i can assure you of that".

Stong words from Hepburn as he prepares his team to meet the league leaders and what a game it should be.

okay this is getting silly, can we stop criticising each others reports on the forum. Take it to mIRC. Commenting on the reports on here make this clan look silly and unprofessional.

Thats my two cents finished. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Your only saying this because we have banter with everyone joking about our reports but when it comes to yours well we actually mean it icon_wink.gif

before you even start tomorrow night Andy I can't change the way I doreports. For the 100th time I don't have time to write an essay which you are trying to force me to do. I only have time todo the reports in my format and participate in the Clan evening. I am not changing my social life outside the clan just because you all want a detailed report.

I'm sorry if I sound a bit serious here but I am getting tired of hearing comments that I should write it like how you write yours. I don't see what the problem is with what I do I write at least a paragraph at the bottom of each clan report stating how I felt I did and I even comment on a few matches sometimes in that paragragh. If its that stats you don't like I'll just scrap them and just put the scores and thats it. I just don't know why you all have decided to gang up on me and make remarks on my reports when I have never in my entire time in this clan commented or criticised any of your reports.

Also I realise its all bantor what you do on here and my last message was me just joining in and throwing my hat in the ring.

Reading Report

Session Dates: 4th & 6th April 2006

Results

championship.gif

derby_home.png Derby 0 vs 1 Reading Reading_away.png

Reading Scorer: Dave Kitson (52)

Attendance: 23,760

MOM: Nicky Shorey (Reading)

In a close run match watched by under 24,000 people Nicky Shorey scored the only goal in the 52nd minute. Derby had a rock solid defence in the 1st half but Vincent Pericard and Nicky Shorey teamed up and took the defence on with a one two one combination to allow Nickey Shorey to squeeze the ball into the net at a tight angle.

plymouth_home.png Plymouth 2 vs 3 Reading Reading_home.png

Plymouth Scorers: Hasney Aljofree (8) & Jon Hoyles (76)

Reading Scorers: James Harper (9), Kevin Doyle (38) & Dave Kitson (73)

Attendance: 15,491

MOM: Ibrahima Sonko (Reading)

Another close match, Plymouth scored the first goal with Hasney Aljofree in the 8th minute but were immediately pegged back by a 9th minute strike from unlikely scorer James Harper who rifled a shot from 18 yards out. Reading went 2-1 up in the 38th minute with a Kevin Doyle goal and then went 3-1 up in the 73rd minute with a goal from Dave Kitson, who was playing his first match after returning from injury. Plymouth scored another goal via a Jon Hoyles strike in the 76th minute but it was all too late.

middlesbrough_home.png Middlesbrough 1 vs 0 Reading Reading_away.png

Middlesbrough Scorer: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (67)

Attendance: 18,008

MOM: Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough)

Bit disappointed in being kicked out of the league cup but still we did play well and kept the scoreline at 1-0. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s 67th minute goal was unstoppable.

Reading_home.png Reading 0 vs 0 Millwall millwall_away.png

Attendance: 24,083

MOM: Tony Craig (Millwall)

Disappointing 0-0 draw in which we should have won had it not been for their goalkeeper was was on top form.

Reading_home.png Reading 0 vs 1 Wolves Wolves_away.png

Wolves Scorer: Jeremie Aliadiere (9)

Attendance: 24,067

MOM: Paul Wotton (Wolves)

Not at all a good game with the only goal coming from Wolves Loan player Jeremie Aliadiere in the 9th minute. Even though my side kept the scoreline down at 1-0 it was still a poor performance as Wolves controlled the whole match.

palace_home.png Crystal Palace 2 vs 1 Reading Reading_away.png

Crystal Palace Scorers: Marcus Berg (45) & Andy Johnson (88)

Reading Scorer: Leroy Lita (25)

Attendance: 24,995

MOM: Andy Johnson (Crystal Palace)

Afraid I was unable to end Crystal Palace’s unbeaten run although I thought we would do it after we scored the opening goal in the 25th minute with Leroy Lita scoring. However it was not to be because with the amount of good players in Rouchies side it didn’t take long for them to equalise but it did take them until the 88th minute to score the winner which was a bitter pill to swallow, I would have been satisfied with a 1-1 draw.

Reading_home.png Reading 2 vs 0 Brighton brighton_away.png

Reading Scorers: Kevin Doyle (6) & Vincent Pericard (64)

Attendance: 24,090

MOM: Stephen Hunt (Reading)

A much better game this time around although were were playing Brighten who are considered the poor side of the Championship. Goals from Kevin Doyle and Vincent Pericard in the 6th & 64th minutes respectfively were enough to beat Brighton.

crewe_home.png Crewe 1 vs 3 Reading Reading_away.png

Crewe Scorer: Eddie Johnson (76)

Reading Scorers: Vincent Pericard (69 & 90) & Dave Kitson (85)

Attendance: 7,739

MOM: Steve Sidwell (Reading)

Another good result and another two goals from Vincent Pericard whom the other clan members found a strange signing at the start of the season. Dave Kitson scored the third goal with Crewe’s Eddie Johnson scoring their only goal.

Stoke_home.png Stoke 2 vs 3 Reading Reading_away.png

Stoke Scorers: Luke Chadwick (45) & Josip Skoko (60)

Reading Scorers: Dave Kitson (28), Nicky Shorey (Pen 45) & Glen Little (75)

Attendance: 14,019

MOM: Glen Little (Reading)

Another close match but my tactics worked in the second half with bringing Glen Little on and he put the icing on the cake to score the winner. Although I am a bit disappointed with my defence conceding two silly goals.

Reading_home.png Reading 2 vs 1 Ipswich ipswich_away.png

Reading Scorers: Dave Kitson (41) & Vincent Pericard (90)

Ipswich Scorer: Dean Bowditch (47)

Attendance: 24,089

MOM: Dave Kitson (Reading)

What can I say but revenge is sweet, months ago Ipswich never gave me a chance and sacked me and today I taught them a lesson to never sack me because that decision will come back to haunt them. A goals from Dave Kitson and another goal for Vincent Pericard settled the game for Reading who dominated the whole match.

watford_home.png Watford 0 vs 3 Reading Reading_away.png

Reading Scorers: Steve Sidwell (15), James Harper (25) & Dave Kitson (55)

Attendance: 18.061

MOM: Ibrahima Sonko (Reading)

Watford were simply outclassed in this match, the midfield tore apart the defence of Watford allowing my strikers to take pot shots at the goal. The goals were provided by Steve Sidwell, James Harper & Dave Kitson.

Leicester_home.png Leicester 3 vs 1 Reading Reading_away.png

Leicester Scorers: Fredric Lundqvist (Pen 17), Iain Hume (75) & Elvis Hammond (81)

Reading Scorer: Vincent Pericard (30)

Attendance: 32,418

MOM: Fredric Lundqvist (Leicester)

Although Vincent Pericard scored yet another goal it wasn’t enough to save my side from a 3-1 defeat. My side was probably still suffering a hangover from the 3-0 drubbing of Watford in the previous game.

Reading_home.png Reading 4 vs 0 Sheff Utd SheffUtd_away.png

Reading Scorers: Vincent Pericard (27), Kevin Doyle (46), Nicky Shorey (Pen 61) & Scott Golbourne (75)

Attendance: 23,908

MOM: Vincent Pericard (Reading)

Have to feel sorry for Steff in this match, his side was just simply outclassed by my Reading Side. Vincent Pericard scored again, Kevin Doyle scored the second and Nickey Shorey scored from the penalty spot. Even Scott Golbourne who was playing in the under 18’s a month or so ago scored and it was his first goal for the senior side. Golbourne might be a good player for the future.

Championship Position at end of sessions: 3rd
