I've bought the following and am awaiting its delivery. its not a quad core but its a dual core penryn laptop

https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NNB-597

could anyone tell me how it is likely to far on FM. how many divisions/leagues i could run on medium database (i like to zip along in FM and knock out a season every 8-12 hours playing time.

cheers guys. (reading this thread im kind of wishing i had waited for the quad core laptops (rock etc)) I really hope i havent made a misktake!

You haven't made a mistake, FM won't use 4 cores FM seems to load only 2 threads, Vista can load as many as you throw at it.

It'll easily do 40 leagues at medium (maybe 30 large). It'll do somewhere between 6-9 hours depending on how fast you play it.

excellent. just the kind of answer i wanted. thanks mate. it's hard to gauge how many to run before a game starts. trial and error i suppose. 6-9 hours a season sounds a wholly bearable rate to me.

thanks for the info icon14.gificon_smile.gif

I haqve a quadcore machine and I run a large database with around 30 leagues from 22 countries and it take around 8 hours a season.

I am currently using this set up as QPR and have spent 1 day 11 hours and am starting the 5th season now but I would knock about 6 hours off as I leave it on when I go out some times.

I ran a holiday mode with 30 leagues from 24 countries and it took 1 hour 6 mins to do a season.

The real benefit of threading in FM comes when you run leagues with matches in full detail....are any of you Quad core users doing that?

Didn't think of that, thanks PaulC icon_smile.gif At least you can change the levels during the game. Something to get the use of my QX6700!

Just checked my game Detail Level. I'm not running all leagues in full detail but here's the info:

I wouldn't listen to a QPR supporter icon_wink.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Whos the QPR supporter? Certainly not me, I'm unfortunate enough to support Newcastle Utd, lifelong sufferer icon_wink.gif And thats why I'm playing as my favourite foreign team - Barcelona instead!

I've nearly finished my 1st season now on 1st April - I play it off & on as I'm in a CoD4 clan most days - so going off Xfire I've played it for 78 hours. I'm probably a slow manager whos methodical over every aspect of the game & constantly searching for players, mainly upcoming youth players. So compared to most people who play 10+ seasons, I'm pretty slow but next season I will have every in place to just concentrate on getting the results.

I know theres less to manage since I planned it doing it all in 1st season so I'll let you know how fast the 2nd season goes - should do it in 45hours this time. In the early Champ Man days, I charged through the seasons, but they give you so many things to do in FM that I can get sidetracked a tad.

Oh well, I've got Primera title in the bag after 29 games played with my marvelous "The Winning" 4-1-4-1 formation!
