Well, without further ado;

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press;

I'd like to present to you;

THE NEW COWDENBEATH MANAGER

MR BARRIE JONES

I'll admit we took our time about making this appointment; It was a hard choice with so many quality candiadtes out there all expressing an interest, but we've decided to take a chance on a local talent. We want the community to rally round this choice

So again, I give you

The new Cowdenbeath Boss, BARRIE JONES..

Barrie: Thanks Gordon; Its always good to be here at Central Park, its a dream come true to be here as the manager. I'm here with the intention of showing this division and the three above it the Cowdenbeath are now a force to be reckoned with in Scottish football... with this in mind I instructed the Chairman to start negotiations with Raith Rovers and Livingston for loan deals with Iain Davidson and Kevin Howe respectively and I'm delighted to say that we've managed to presuade both of them that their careers will be revived with a stint at Central Park. Two new signings today, and I hope we're not done yet...

English Manager Defeated but Optimistic

The new Queens Park boss, englishman Tony Hopkins was gutted but pleased with the teams first game under his control despite their challenge cup ending at the first hurdle. With the board not giving Hopkins any money to allow team strengthing during pre season the new boss was not overly optimistic about the teams chances for the season, especially having no previous experience amongst the Scottish leagues.

However in the first round cup match against Ayr the boss was pleased with the overall team display as they dominated throughout but could not get the ball into the net and disaster struck when in the 76th minute Ayr's first shot on goal went in leaving the team to now focus on a good league campaign.

Boss Hopkins was quoted as "being more than pleased with how my first game in Scotland has gone, and despite no cup run on the cards this year I can promise the fans that the team is primed for a good league campaign.

peterhead 3 east fife 2

ross mcgregor casually took a holiday for the first game of the season and left his assistant to take control. despite a good performance the loss resulted in the sacking of assistant shaw who was offer a new post as coach. he was instantly replaced "shaw was crap and wasnt capable" mcgregor stated. new signing alex burns scored twice for east fife and looks to be firepower which will only add to east fifes title hopes!

Berwick have installed David Muckersie as their manager. He has been given a huge transfer budget of £0 to bring in a team that can gain promotion to Division 2. He wasted no time in signing players. He has signed:

Gary Fleming - £0

Jorg Stiel - Free

Andy Ross - Free

Stuart McLean - Free

Craig Young - £0

Mike McDermott - £0

Steve McGlinchey - Free

Graeme Holmes - Free

Ryan Wilkie - Free

Ally Mitchell - £0

After playing 3 friendlies he has assessed what needs to be done.

Friendly 1 - Berwick 1 - 3 Grimsby

The first game under the new manager was an okay performance from the Berwick team but 101 seen Grimsby go ahead in 7 minutes with Ian Little getting a goal just before half time for the home team. A quickfire double from Gary Cohen was enough to end Berwicks hopes of winning this game. Grimsby had the most possession in this game.

Friendly 2 - Carnoustie 4 - 3 Berwick

A very disappointing game for Berwick losing to poor outfit Carnoustie. Paul Donnelly fired a double in the first 12 minutes to put Carnoustie 2-0 up. Graeme Holmes got his first goal for Berwick on 31 mins to reduce the score to 2-1. Martin Ross scored a double before half time to put the score to a humiliating 4-1 at half time. The response was great from Berwick and Steve McGlinchey got his debut goal in the 56th minute. Sean Simpson scored in the 66th minute to take the scoreline to 4-3 which was the final score.

Friendly 3 - Berwick Rangers 1 - 0 Stenhousemuir

David enjoyed a victory over rivals Stenhousemuir who have been tipped by their manager as the best team in the Third Division. Things look on the up for Berwick Rangers and their new players look to have the ability to do a job for Berwick. But can they seal some of the players on a permanent deal rather than loan deals even though the have no money. This is the key to their success. This match sent a warning to the rest of the Third Division. The only downer was Grant McNicoll getting injured in the 53rd minute.

Challenge Cup 1st Round - Berwick Rangers 1 - 2 Gretna

Gary Felming equalised for Berwick in the 17th minute after Deuchar put Gretna ahead after 5 mins. The game stayed level until the 67th minute where James Grady scored. The game ended 2-1 to Gretna. Davids team did well in this game narrowly losing out to a great Gretna side. Berwicks players didnt look out of depth even though some made their debuts in this game. If this game is anything to go by then Davids side are contenders to go up this season.

Central Fife Times

Blue Brazil show skill, tenacity and determination

Well, one good-ish start to the season later and Jones's Blue Brazil are beginning to look like they could mount some sort of a run this season, Despite a few early setbacks due to injury (Gary Fusco and Ian Mauchlan), the 'Beath are looking good. the running of Dene Shields always generates hope in the fans, and his finishing is creating nothing but sheer joy. Kevin Howe on the left-wing is looking like a world beater, and Livvy must be kicking themselves for letting him out on a seasons loan. Markus Paatelainen has been versatile for Jones, starting the season up front before switching to the right wing after the injury of Mauchlen. His replacement in the front two is Andy Jackson, and the yound livewire looks like he might be hard to dislodge. Mixu Paatelainen is still out through injury and has played no part whatsoever from a footballing aspect this season but his skills are on display on the training ground, and you can see them coming through in the young strikeforce that Jones is playing. In departures it seems that the problem of Economics has led Jones to dispense with the services of Ryan McCallum to East Fife with little more than a seel-on percentage involved. More on that as we have it....

Stenny are off to a flyer with 3 wins from 3 Michael moore has looked every bit the goalscorer and all is well with the warriors league form the only disapointment on Sunday was a 4-2 defeat by Dundee in the League cup icon15.gifstill if stenhousemuir keep up this form they will be no stoping them.The next game is a big test when they play Berwick Rangers who have already beat them pre season

Berwick have signed two players since the Gretna game where they narrowly lost.

Neil Jablonski - loan (signed just before Alloa game)

Darran Thomson - loan (signed after Alloa game)

Darran has been signed on a loan deal to deal with the injuries but is not needed anymore. Neil Jablonski is doing well for the Wee Gers

League - Arbroath 1 - 1 Berwick

Arbroath were favourites to win this game which was an evenly contested match. They went ahead on the 32nd minute thanks to a Mathu King goal and Berwick equalised with Gary Fleming on the 42nd minute and the game finished like this. A pretty good start to the league but an injury in the 23rd minute was unwelcome for Berwick. Graeme Holmes is injured.

League Cup 1st Round - Alloa 0 - 2 Berwick

Alloa, in division 2, were clear favourites to win this game but an upset was on the cards after Berwick future signing, Darran Thomson, was sent off after just 18 minutes which gave Berwick a free kick outside the box. This was converted by debutant Neil Jablonski. Berwick went on to score another through a Jay Shields penalty. The game finished 2-0 which was enough to see Berwick through to the 2nd round.

League - Berwick 2 - 0 Queens Park

Queens Park went into this game suffering an 8-0 defeat at the hands of St Johnstone in the cup and Berwick heaped more misery on them after going 1-0 up inside the first 60 seconds. The Steve McGlinchey goal was then doubled by Kevin Haynes on the 24th minute mark and Berwick totally outclassed Tony's side in this game. The media comments before the game hyped this game up to be an upset with Queens Park winning but thanks to the majority of the possession Berwick cruised through this despite the scoreline.

League - Elgin 2 - 1 Berwick

Elgin went ahead through a Pat Scullion and Berwick equalised through Steve McGlinchey and the scoreline stood at 1-1 at half time. Elgin scored another through Gary Wood after 76 minutes and Berwick couldnt get an equaliser again. The manager has told the team this kind of result is not good enough if you want promotion. He expects a better overall performance next match.
