Various Attribute Colours

I don't know if this is just me, but I find whenever a new version of fm is released with new skins or I download user-made skins, I am usually not happy with the attribute colours and I find myself having to go and manually create combinations that work. So as I've been trying to find some decent combinations I figured some other might find these colours useful too.

There are two main things that I want the attribute colours to do...

1. Make it easy to quickly identify what a players strengths and weaknesses are without having to scan their page for too long.

2. Be easy enough on the eyes that it doesn't feel like my eyes are getting a workout trying to read the numbers.

Whether or not the colours work with the palette of the skin is important but only secondary to those two main concerns.

To use these colours go to \My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010\skins\*Skin Name*\settings and open the "(skin name) settings.xml" in a word editor and replace the first four lines of <colour name=...etc> with the ones I've provided.

If you want to just edit the colours on the default skin I am pretty sure that the only way to do it is to use the resource archiver utility included with FM to extract the default skins from skins.fmf in the \Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010\data directory and edit that skin as if it was a custom one.

If you like, I can add my to the list?

I find it so easy to look at, and really does make the attributes look good IMO. :D

does anyone know where to find the numerical values for the player attributes? i want to change 15 to the excellent category. i can't find the list in any of the skin xml files. i thought it was located in the global panels or the settings file with the attribute colors. either way i can't find it this year.

by the way, here is my attribute scheme if anyone wants it:

I've found how to change the attribute colouring ranges now. It's in player attributes panel.xml not player profile.xml - just thought I'd update this in case anyone else was wondering.

Just open up player attributes panel.xml (you will need to extract the panels.fmf file with the resource archiver) and change <integer id="exca" value="16" /> to <integer id="exca" value="15" />

If you want to just edit the colours on the default skin I am pretty sure that the only way to do it is to use the resource archiver utility included with FM to extract the default skins from skins.fmf in the \Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010\data directory and edit that skin as if it was a custom one.

i have installed with steam and when i go to the sports interactive folder there is only uninstall FM folder in it and nothing else.so what i got to do?

I'm completely new to this so apologies if this is a stupid question but if i want to change the attribute colours, I have to change the 'code' as described above. But where is the 'code' located on my computer? I'm using the default dark skin at the moment.

Thanks

And Grayscale (this one is not easy to distinguish different attribute ranges but it might work for some who like simplicity) -default skin

<colour name="low attribute" red="153" green="153" blue="153" />

<colour name="normal attribute" red="102" green="102" blue="102" />

<colour name="good attribute" red="51" green="51" blue="51" />

<colour name="excellent attribute" red="0" green="0" blue="0" />

For a grayscale - or with any colour if you want a gradual 'bold' effect for higher values - it can be easier to use alpha values, to tinker with the values quickly to get just the effect you want:

<colour name="low attribute" red="0" green="0" blue="0" alpha="50"/>

<colour name="normal attribute" red="0" green="0" blue="0" alpha="90"/>

<colour name="good attribute" red="0" green="0" blue="0" alpha="140"/>

<colour name="excellent attribute" red="0" green="0" blue="0" alpha="200"/>

or for red

<colour name="low attribute" red="200" green="0" blue="0" alpha="50"/>

<colour name="normal attribute" red="200" green="0" blue="0" alpha="90"/>

<colour name="good attribute" red="200" green="0" blue="0" alpha="140"/>

<colour name="excellent attribute" red="200" green="0" blue="0" alpha="200"/>

etc.

This can work quite well to give an instant 'feel' with how 'bold' a player's attribute page is, or where the bolder/lighter numbers are concentrated (technical, physical, mental etc), without even having to think 'blue is good', etc.

(Alpha 100 is normal font weight, 200 is bold).

If you are using one of the default skins you'll need to download the base skins first and follow the instructions on how to install the skin and then how to edit the colours: [FM2010: TEMPLATE] BASE SKINS (for changing colours adding 2D pitch graphics)

I know I'm bumping an old topic, but I was recently linked to this page by someone, it could just be the thread I'm looking for. Now Davebyrd has re-created the old Flex Skin, and its exactly as it used to be except from the attribute colours, which used to look like this, does anyone have the the colours of the attributes so I can change the new Flex for it to look like the old one? If someone can do this I'll really appreciate it :)

Here's mine. Based on traffic light colours with Green for excellent, through Yellow then Orange to Red for poor attributes. I find this far clearer than using shades of a single colour.

<colour name="low attribute" red="255" green="0" blue="0" alpha="140"/>

<colour name="normal attribute" red="255" green="127" blue="0" alpha="200"/>

<colour name="good attribute" red="255" green="255" blue="127" />

<colour name="excellent attribute" red="127" green="255" blue="127" />

:D Nice spot. It's a FaceGen image I made of Bruce for a staff pic.

The player is actually meant to be a mate of mine (I edit a few of us in each year as 16 year old regens). He's been given that as his stock pic until he gives me a proper one to use.

I like the colours you use for the attributes, tried to get it working with the neue2 skin but doesn't seem to work? Any advice?

Also the Bruce Forsyth pic made me laugh!

Any file I can download so the attribute range of 'excellent' INCLUDES 15!? And preferable the color is red... I don't want to do the extract FMF stuff myself.. as I'm newbie and don't know exactly how to go about that stuff. Or do I have to do it manually myself?

Download and use the Base Skins they already have the fmf files you need extracted, though you'll need to adjust the xml files as explained above yourself.

Thank you, sound simple enough.

Just downloaded default FM base skin and edited the attribute thresholds in the player and non-player attribute panel. And my user data folder didn't have a 'skins' folder by the way, had to create it.

Gonna go try in game now, load that base skin and see if everything's as I want it.

Thanks.
