From the FAQ -

Every player in the game will have a current ability, a number between 1 and 200 that indicates the overall level of skill the player possess. Current ability can change depending on a number of factors such as injuries, game time and training.

Potential ability is the maximum value that the CA can reach. It does not change.

Player A has CA 100 and PA 200

Player B has CA 100 and PA 110

Player A is the brightest prospect all in all, as player B has almost “maxed out†and is near his peak.

You can easily find out the CA/PA of any player in the database through the Editor that comes with the boxed game.

What does a negative PA mean?

A negative PA is assigned to some players in the game editor – when you start a new game FM will assign the player a PA from the following ranges:

-10 = PA 170-200

-9 = 150-180

-8 = 130-160

-7 = 110-140

-6 = 90-120

-5 = 70-100

-4 = 50-80

-3 = 30-60

-2 = 10-40

-1 = 0-20
