dagurol
I know I said I wouldn't start another game until the patch arrived, but who am I kidding? I've gone for the mighty Gloucester City and of course had to sign a whole new squad. I decided to try and get players who are released by clubs in the Championship and League One,and that has paid of because after 9 games we're sitting ninth in the table with 13 points . We've only lost 2 games and in them we conceded some silly late goals. Thats a big improvement from my game with Stamford were I could hardly score and couldn't buy a win. But now I've found a solid tactic and some good players and things are looking good. Profile

Supermas2
Tiverton Town in the Blue Square Conference South End of Season 2008/09 Well, I suppose I will start the season review at the end. Final League Table We finished in 7th place in the Conference South, and while a good achievement, I am sure we could have bettered it, but for a very poor start at home. After our 5-1 win against Braintree in our first home league game, we only managed 2 wins in our next 10 home games. Far too many games were drawn at home, and despite our better home form from December to the end of the season ,we managed only 9 wins out of 21, with 9 draws and 3 defeats. Away from home we started fairly strongly, although in the middle of the season, around January-time, we struggled away from home, mainly due to the injury to our target man and our failure to find a new tactic. Overall, we were never in danger of relegation, but we always looked slightly to far adrift of catching the playoff contenders as the graph shows. Onto the players, and our Top Scorer with 17 goals in 28 starts in the league was 21 year old Andy Caton, although as you can see - his own form tailed off toward the end of the season. Despite his poor technical stats, his pace seems to mean defenders struggle to contain him. The club captain was another striker, and our target man. He is good in the air, and managed 14 goals in 31 league starts, although his contribution to the team was more than goals. He went through a bad patch after a hamstring injury, and this dragged his average rating down, but he came back into form towards the end of the season - and he is... Drewe Broughton. In terms of other competitions: FA Cup - 4th Qualifying Round (Lost 2-1 at home to Torquay) Setanta Shield - 4th Round (Lost 2-1 at home to Altrincham) FA Trophy - 2nd Round (Lost 2-0 away at Weymouth) Next season, I would hope for a better start to my home league campaign, and I think with the current bunch of players we should be able to push for the playoffs. I hope I can strengthen the squad, although it does seem to be hard to find any more good players (especially with the Medium database ) And one last result for Dafuge : From the reserve match Hope you enjoyed the read
jsar
Well after last seasons acheivements of a playoff and FA trophy win the chippenham faithfull where hoping that Manager James Leedham could pull of another magic trick with his first year in the Blue Square Premiership. Despite a media prediction that they would go straight back down and the boards asperations of only battling bravely against relegation Leedham desicded to tell the fans and board that his chippenham squad where in for the long haul and promised to avoid the drop. despite his confidence the pre-season results and first 7 games of the season left fans accepting that they would be back in the BS south next season and media moguls looking smug in there predictions. But from game 8 onwards the new players started to gel and a few scrapped 1-0 wins and a 7 game unbeaten run they started to claw there way up the table and finnished there first season in the dizzy heights of 13th place. Leedham blamed the poor start on the unwillingness of 2 season star striker Vicktor Illugason to spend another loan spell at Chippenham, and the time it took replacement strikers Kris Renton and Dean Oliver to find there shooting boots. John Morgan continued his fledging carrer with Chippenham making 40 appreances for the club and netting 5 goals. As well as making four more appearances for his national side and scoring his first international goal. Chippenhams Cup success last year led the fans to belive they may have a chance at another lucrative cup run this year but hopes where shattered with the bluebirds going out early in all 3 competitions in the early stages. I don't like that so I don't do it, that's not to mean that nobody else should either. I've signed a few of these islanders after taking them on trial first. All of them appeared in my player search screen, and since the player search screen is limited by your scouting knowledge I consider this to be a legitimate way of finding players. This is one of the LLM rules which I disagree with, I believe that the player search list is generated according to your staff's knowledge, so indirectly every player on that list is there because of your scouts and coaches. In a way, every player on that list has already been picked out by your scouts, whether your board will sanction a trip abroad to actually watch him play is another thing. Using the text box to search for players is something I would never do, but since it is not against the rules it is up to individuals to decide whether they want to use it or not. I quite like the way lots of people have their own personal restrictions on the rules in their games, creates some interesting discussions.

If they appear within the search network of available players and will come on trial then i see nothing wrong with attempting to attract them and see if they will sign. Surely the available players are related to your knowledge, including that of your staffs, and reflects who you may of heard of. For example, if you have a German scout signed then he is likely to have heard of more German players than you and therefore increase the number of players available to select from. I can see Jimbo's point regarding League differences and maybe a limit of 2 or 3 leagues difference in standard in future would be more appropriate. Let's face it you ain't likely to get a player from Chelsea reserves playing for a BSS team IRL are you! KUTGW guys and enjoy

There are no easy teams and no tactics that make the game easy and nothing but hard work brings you success, (unless you use the editor) . Loads of people play in their own little way and we all co-exist beside eachother in harmony most of the time. We had a bit of a an issue with people bringing in talented foreigners, but that was dealt with by the "scout or trial rule", earlier in this thread we had issues with, "unrealistic money spinning frendlies", abusing flaws in the game, and I personally have an issue with the loaning of quality players from the likes of Bristol City to some carppy little Conference North/South side, (someone remind me to request that in next years challenge we limit a loan player dropping down to a maximim of 3 divisions), and also this year there seems to be a prevelance of people using the "no club" search to check for talented foreigners, (Islanders), and then getting them in on trial to circumvent the existing rule. I don't like that so I don't do it, that's not to mean that nobody else should either. Anyone who gets anywhere near to completing this challenge without using the editor and without using a scouting tool deserves the utmost respect. I will spend a lot of time playing this game, (as I have done in previous issues), but let's be honest, whether or not I actually ever manage to complete this challenge is completely irrelevant as that is not what this is about. There is absolutely no competition between us and that is why we share info on tactics and decent players and we enjoy each others success. Gloating and bragging is allowed in this thread but be warned, the FM Gods see all and they always get their revenge. using no club to search for players would be wrong, but i should point out the islanders come up on the player search screen as they have english nationality and if its good enough for dafuge who admits to signing some. I don't really think it is any different to signing irish or scottish players after a trial who you also can't scout at the start yet i would imagine nearly everyone does. Only way to stop this would be to say only sign players you can scout no exceptions. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> My mistake. I wrongly assumed that people were signing the Islanders via the "no club" search. I've got no problem with that at all.

Alurny
My islanders are doing great! Especially Richardson and Campbell! james when signed James now I have made a tactic change after my previous working 4-4-2 diamond (wide) began to falter. I have reverted back to the good old 3-2-2-1-2 which kept me up in the first season. With the transfer window open it looks very bleak with regards to improving the squad, but in all honesty the FREDs are improving at a dramatic rate many clubs in for most of them now including Sheffield United and Prestion! Shaymoose_86
I'm ten games into my first season with Guiseley in the Blue Square North, and despite labouring for hours over my start-from-scratch squad, I've already released two players and signed another two...oops Still, inconsistency is the word, I've won 2 at home and lost three, and won 2 away and lost three, including a 4-0 spanking away at Burton Albion which led to me changing my system a little bit. If it is a bug, a few of us will lose our jobs and have to start again when the patch is released which should fix it, we will not use an editor to cheat. Sometimes the game dishes out a few surprises that we don't think are fair, like the St****s incident, we just have to get on with it and move on, without feeling bitter about it afterwards. Ok, some maybe a little bit of bitterness

johnnyquest409
My team is playing so inconsistently at the moment. In the league so far, we won just 2 of the first 11 games, then 6 of the next 7 games, and now haven't won in the last 5. We seem to be playing better football now, things just aren't going our way. If you're in your first season then things will settle down a little when the team starts to gel. I had some indifferrent results as the start of the season and things got much better when the team gelled and the strikers apparently developed a telepatich link, until Baidoo got injured of course Sometimes you do need to tweak your tactics a little to get back into the winning mentality, e.g. play a little more defensively at home to grind out a result. It was quite frustrating though, after our very poor start, I altered my tactics and suddenly we were brilliant, as I said, winning 6 in 7 league games, two of which were 5-0 and 5-1 away from home. Then suddenly it all changed again. I've been trying to tweak my tactics over the last couple of games, but so far to no avail. I think it might just be a case of our strikers not actually being good enough!
Alurny
Anyone know if there is a specific contract renewal date on this one? I got to March with no news yet! pepemandias
Professor Mandias - Wimbledon - Blue Square South. After doing the 06 and 07 challenges alone I decided to give it a try and post here my achievements. Since I'm not well experienced with lower league teams I had took AFC Wimbledon for this game. The manager screenshot is from November but I guess that'll be okay for you guys. Okay, let's cut the mambo jambo. The link with Crystal Palace looks really promising as I have loaned many players from them. Some free tranfers as well and even buying Cherno Samba due to adjusting my transfer budget showed that my team could really mount a serious challenge to the other teams going for the tittle. Here are some screenshots. Manager Profile. The Squad so far. Finances. Tranfers. I'm in November now playing a 4-1-2-1-2 wide with target man and playmaker. These are some of my stars players so far. Moses. Smith. Knights. Samba. Due to a excellent form I'm currently top of the league and have acchieved some great results in the cups (I don't understand why so many since I always play in Italy and Spain). League Table so far. Any requests for screenshot feel free to ask as I know that my team is playing far beyond expectations and this might raise some doubts. If I have made some mistake please let me know as I'd like to play this challeng like everyone else. Sorry for the long post.
