Georgedcc
Pretty simple question really, in all my seasons so far on FM09 (about 15) I have never seen a GK either go off injured or get red-carded. Because of that I don't bother wasting a place on the bench for my sub 'keeper. How many of you have a sub 'just in case' or do you just take a risk? pedrofilipe.lourencosta
In my Dortmund game, Roman Weidenfeller picked up knocks in 2 games. i always select a keeper to the bench.

uusinjsh
no goalies on bench. had keeper sent off twice for handling the ball outside penalty area. in both occasions didn't have gk on bench and had a good laugh about my defender's gk abilities. Smallen
I only have have a sub keeper for cup finals. But mine has been injured in games a few times. Thankfully it's always happened late enough in the game to have no effect.
saulty2805
Every game without fail. Always have done. This I've always had a Gk on the bench, and always will.
Cardiovascular
Always. FM08 saw me get Scotland to the World Cup (!), I took 3 keepers. Craig Gordon got injured during a match, McGregor got injured in training after the Gordon injury match and the other keeper got a straight red after taking down a player. Had to put Simon Ferry in goals, needless to say, I got thumped
Berbatov9
I never do - and the game needs to punish more for doing this.

stevvy
Not me. If I can have 5 subs I go for a versatile defender, a midfielder for each position (1 centre, 1 left, 1 right) and 1 striker. If I can have 7 subs, it's exactly the same, except for having 3 defenders on the bench rather than 1 (1 centre, 1 left, 1 right).
Davidmarrio
i don't have a keeper on the bench and never regret it apart from when i had 3 injuries in 10 minutes so i used all my subs and then my keeper got injured which caused me to lose the game
danG59
i always do i had a keeper injured in the 1st min of match n had no keeper so i always do now.
marcftm
I generally like a small first team squad with a lot of good backups in the reserves so normally there's room for a keeper on the bench.
rinso
never have a gk on the bench, even with 7 subs..
Mojby
Always had a GK on the bench. But I always make sure I have 1 GK, 1 Def, 1 Attack Mid, 1 Def Mid and 1 Attacker and then chose from two others. If you cannot make room for the GK then you need to sort your squad out. It will be sods law that if I did not have a GK on the bench i will get an early injury or sending off in an important game so it is not worth the risk. I have had my GK injured maybe twice in 12 seasons so far on my FM2009 Super League game.
DanGLiverpool
Never have a keeper on the bench, with only 5 bench places, you need all the outfield players you can put in there. Hasn't cost me before.
bardock
I always have a back up, but come to think of it I've never had to use one on 09.

deltablue
Always do, unless one's injured or afterwards when sometimes I forget to reorganize the bench to get a proper balance among subs. Admitedly hardly anything happens to GKs but when it does it can all fall apart. On a similar thread a while ago someone said he didn't bother because it would only cost you a few points max but that can make quite a difference in some situations. Plus I sometimes sub GK's who are playing poorly which is another reason to keep one on the bench.
celebritykiller
Feel bad enough having a GK who'll only get 3-4 games a season anyway, to leave him off the bench would just be rubbing it in!
DennisIran
Dont have a GK on the bench. last game casillas got injured i just put zlatan on there and i still won 5-0 (playing with real third season built myself a super team)

Jops14
Always have a goalie in the bench, and always will. Its rare to lose you;re keeper, but it happens. I always have 1 GK, 2 Defenders, 2 Midfielders and 2 strikers (1 good backup and one kid who will be good in the future)
kevinM182
You must have a keep on bench if you're in SPL
leedsfan88
depends on the game and how many subs, if i have 7 subs then yes but if i've only 5 subs then it really depends on the match but with 5 subs i will only have a keeper maybe 5% of the time
Rushers82
When playing games where 5 subs are permitted I never do. Instead I opt for one defender, three midfielders and a striker. However, I do if I'm permitted to name 7 subs (also add in an extra defender usually). That said, in my current save of FM09 I have been playing for six seasons and have never had a need to replace a goalkeeper (and indeed I've had the same number 1 for that entire save). slipknot67
Usually start a save as Celtic manager so it's compulsory to have one keeper on the bench, but would still have one there just in case even if it wasn't in the rules.
rgb214
I too, always have a goalkeeper on the sub list.
Management
Definitely have one always... even if it ends up being my under 18 keeper due to injury. I will always have: 1x GK . . . 1x DC 1x FB . . . 1x DM 1x MC . . . 1x AM 1x FC
Fox2k
I only have a GK on the bench in important games.
muncherdave
My sub keeper has long filled the SB1 slot for as long as I've been playing CM/FM, but this year in my current Aberdeen save I noticed just how much I never need one, so he's been moved to SB7 where he'll still be on the bench for league games but for the cups I need all the outfielders I can get and they only permit 5 subs so I don't bother. It's really not worth taking the risk of losing a game in the league because I don't have one on the bench though.
philly_flyer10
Always, managers need shooting if they dont do it now, especially as even the CCC has 7 subs. GK FB DC MC W ST ST
Delvey
My bench: 1 x GK 1 x DC 1 x Wide Def 1 x MC 1 x Wide Mid 1 x Striker 1 x What ever I will need to change tactically depending on who I'm playing So.........yes, yes I do.
mastema
I use one if I'm playing a league with 7 subs. If I'm restricted to five, I use: 1 DC 1 DR/L 1 DM/MC/AMC 1 MR/L, AMR/L 1 ST If I have seven I'll add a goalie and a midfileder (DM or AM depending on my tactic). T3hB3n...
I always have one. You never know, y´know. Your goalie is the last line of defence before you concede a goal so you always need one.
Pompeyboy101
i always do, partly because u have to in the minimum requirements for a match in scotland, but also because my no.1 got injured in a game after 10mins and was out for 2 seasons! Arijit
I always use 1 GK in bench. Many of my players are capable of playing in atleast two different positions. Thus leaving me less worrid about golie space.
Lomedae
Never when I have only 5 subs, when you have one injured keeper in a match every 20 seasons or so I'll gladly take this miniscule risk in favour of having field options on the bench. With 7 subs I usually have a gk on the bench.
lucatonix
I have done on all my game saves apart from my most recent with Barca. Although i only have 1 keeper in the first team and 3 youth prospects in the under 18s

Spleen!
I always have a keeper on the bench, just in case something happens. I've had my keepers pick up knocks a few times in games, and I've had at least one sent off on FM09.

saberhagen83
Always have a keeper on the bench. Forgot one time and I got my keeper injured and had to play an outfield player in that position.
