The crucial assist by Kyris. A flowing move by the FMX stars to secure the win against Hull. Keep up the team work people

P.S: GCB. May I ask you to name Kyone as Kyris as I put his common name like that. There won't be any problem but I'll call him Kyris and people may confuse who the hell am I :)

Not a problem (post edited!) - I need to go back and look at common names as it is something I forgot before! :)

Thanks for all the congratulatory messages re: the wedding. Me and my new missus are very happy indeed and Saturday was the perfect day even without football at 3pm!

Round 1 of 6 in Boot Camp continues with Group B results now. I have edited the Man of the Match (as requested above) into the Group A post and will include it from now on!

If you’ve not done your predictions (only 16 out of 40 have) then you need to get them done. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting the manager you don’t want … You have until the end of July!

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 1 / 6 - JULY 9th 2008

With the addition of the FMX-Factor 2 players to their squads, excitement was reaching fever pitch at Hull City, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe United and Huddersfield Town as the opening round of matches in the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy approached. In Group A, favourites Hull City faced Scunthorpe United at the KC Stadium whilst group rivals Leeds United and Huddersfield Town were due to meet at the Galpharm Stadium. Group B was due to kick off with Barnsley at home to Sheffield Wednesday with group favourites Sheffield United at home to Doncaster Rovers at Bramall Lane.

BARNSLEY vs. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Oakwell, Barnsley

9229 spectators turned up at Oakwell to witness Barnsley’s game with their main rivals from down the M1, the Owls of Sheffield Wednesday. After their amazing cup run last season, Barnsley will be hoping to do well in this competition and a win over Wednesday would be a signal of their intent. However, Wednesday has a strong defence and with Sirus Lannock up front they could be a real threat.

Barnsley manager, David Moyes, selected all five of his FMX2 stars in his first starting eleven. Philip Almeida started at right back, Mark Cooper down the right wing, Bob McBob in the centre of the midfield, Gregory Peck in the defensive midfield role and Magnus Vestergaard up front with Marceo Rigters.

Wednesday manager, Bryan Robson, decided to start with all five of his FMX2 stars as well. He started with Wobill Luman in the goal, Matt Ferguson at left back, Lawrence Lazewski Jr. in front of him on the left wing, William Hall in an advanced midfield role and FMX-Factor champion, Sirus Lannock, up front with Marcus Tudgay.

As with both games in Group A, the game burst into life within minutes of the start. This time, with only 8 minutes on the clock, it was the Reds who drew first blood to the delight of the home support. Almeida played a long ball down the right hand side towards Cooper who got to the byline before crossing dangerously into the Wednesday penalty area. Wobill had to do something but will be disappointed with his parried attempt which fell straight to the feet of RIGTERS who stabbed home from 6 yards out. Barnsley 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday (8 minutes)

It was a very even game and it seemed likely to produce another goal before long with there being as much chance of 2-0 as there was of 1-1. The goal arrived on 23 minutes and it was Wednesday who leveled. A great tackle by Wednesday defender Tommy Spurr saw the ball drift out to Tudgay on the left side. He played the ball into LANNOCK on the edge of the box who turned well and drilled the ball low past Steele and into the bottom corner. Barnsley 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday (23 minutes)

It had been a superb response by Wednesday and it got better just twelve minutes later. A free kick on the left was taken by Lazewki Jr. who speared the cross into the far post where TUDGAY met the ball with a downward header past Steele for a very simple goal. In the space of 12 minutes, Wednesday had turned the game on it’s head and went into half time a goal up.

By this point, Cooper had been forced off the field with an injury although this turned out not to be serious in the end and he should be fit for Barnsley’s second game. McBob was also limping although he played on until the end of the game – this proved to be a strange decision by Moyes with McBob later ruled out for four weeks. Not good news when needing to make an impression in the FMX Boot Camp!

However, there was good news for Barnsley five minutes after half time. After a Wednesday attack broke down, Barnsley countered with Rigters running over halfway. He released the ball to VESTERGAARD on the left side who cut inside Buxton with ease and fired past Wobill to make it 2-2. The rest of the game continued to be a very even contest but there were no more goals and the game finished in a draw that Wednesday will probably be more happy with.

GROUP B FULL TIME SCORE:

Barnsley 2 (1) Rigters 8, Vestergaard 50

Sheffield Wednesday 2 (2) Lannock 23, Tudgay 35

FMX2 Player Ratings:

BARNSLEY: Almeida 6.7, Cooper 7.0, McBob 6.8, Peck 6.7, Vestergaard 7.0

WEDNESDAY: Wobill 6.7, M.Ferguson 6.8, Lazewski Jr. 7.0, Hall 6.8, Lannock 7.1

MAN OF THE MATCH: Marcus Tudgay (Sheffield Wednesday)

SHEFFIELD UNITED vs. DONCASTER ROVERS

Bramall Lane, Sheffield

After the draw at Oakwell, one of these team could take a firm hold of the group with victory in their first game at Bramall Lane. Recently relegated Sheffield United would face newly promoted Doncaster Rovers with United the clear favourites to win. A crowd of just under 9000 turned up at the Lane to witness the game, the lowest of the first round of matches so far.

United manager Mick McCarthy selected all five of his FMX2 players with Setven Jaa starting in goal, Fred Brookes Jr. at right back, Geevus Canvey in the midfield with Haowan Madridstas and Joe Tomkins up front.

Rovers’ manager Kevin Keegan also selected all five of his FMX2 players as well. He started with Hermann Schneider in the middle of the defence, Bryan Danielson protecting the defence in the defensive midfield role, Mark Millward in the more attacking midfield role and Havo Bigabelli and Tom Hamilton partnered in attack.

Every game in Round 1 of the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy Group Stages has produced an early goal and this game followed the same pattern with a goal for the home side on 10 minutes. Madridstas found TOMKINS on the edge of the box. A great turn fooled the defender and he gave Sullivan no chance from 20 yards firing into the bottom corner. Sheffield United 1-0 Doncaster Rovers (10 minutes)

Rovers were shocked and United were rampant at this stage, dominating the play and threatening to take Rovers apart so it was no surprise at all when United struck again on 24 minutes. A corner from Brian Howard was met by TOMKINS again with a six yard header that beat Sullivan and hit the defender on the line. However, it just had the power and the angle to creep over the line by inches giving the FMX2 player his second goal of the game. Sheffield United 2-0 Doncaster Rovers (24 minutes)

It was looking like a rout could take place but then from nowhere, Doncaster suddenly got into gear and started to play a little. A free kick from the right drifted out to Stuart Elliott on the left who pulled the ball across the face of the Blades goal but agonisingly inches away from the boots of the strikers. However, Danielson chased it down on the right and floated the ball into the six yard box where HAMILTON met it with a firm header into the net for a lifeline for the Rovers. Sheffield United 2-1 Doncaster Rovers (35 minutes)

United had dominated the game in the first half but Rovers had shown they could cause problems in the second half. It began evenly but the next goal came on 59 minutes. Hamilton had the ball in the Blades box and hit a drive at goal but Jaa made a splendid stop to set United off on a counter. Kyle Walker crossed the ball into the area from the right to MADRIDSTAS who controlled superbly before slotting the ball past Sullivan into the corner. Sheffield United 3-1 Doncaster Rovers (59 minutes)

The game seemed over but Rovers fought back again and got a deserved goal with quarter of an hour left to play. James Hayter and James Coppinger combined well to release Jason Price on the right hand side. He delivered a cross to the far post which was met by HAMILTON who slid home his second goal of the game to bring the game back to life once more. Sheffield United 3-2 Doncaster Rovers (76 minutes)

Both sides attacked, one team trying to kill the game but the other side trying to snatch a result from the game. Chances came and went and in the end, there were no more goals as United came through a tough game to secure their place on top of Group B.

GROUP B FULL TIME SCORE:

Sheffield United 3 (2) Tomkins 10, 24, Madridstas 59

Doncaster Rovers 2 (1) Hamilton 35, 76

FMX2 Player Ratings:

SHEFF UTD: Jaa 6.7, Brookes Jr. 6.8, Canvey 6.6, Madridstas 7.7, Tomkins 8.4

ROVERS: Schneider 5.0, Danielson 7.1, Millward 6.5, Bigabelli 6.4, Hamilton 8.4

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 2 / 6 - JULY 12/13th 2008

After the first round of matches in the group stage of the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy, it was Leeds and Scunthorpe leading the way in Group A after first day victories whilst Group B was led by Sheffield United after a narrow win. The pressure was on favourites and Premiership side Hull City as they travelled to Elland Road for a crunch game with Leeds whilst Scunthorpe, fresh from their win at the KC, could really signal their ambitions with a victory over League 1 rivals Huddersfield at Glanford Park. In Group B, it was time for the first Sheffield derby with United hoping to stretch their lead at the top but Wednesday hoping to take top spot in front of their own fans at Hillsborough. Both Doncaster and Barnsley knew that their match would be important as they looked to capatalise on the big boys from Sheffield having to play each other.

GROUP A: LEEDS UNITED vs. HULL CITY

Elland Road, Leeds

After their shock defeat at home to Scunthorpe on Day One of the competition, Hull knew that they needed to get a result at Leeds - more so after Leeds secured victory at Huddersfield and would go six points clear of the Tigers if they beat them at Elland Road. Hull could not afford to let Leeds get that far in front and Neil Warnock knew it. However, only 10356 turned up to see the game.

Warnock left out Az Toscani who had not recovered quickly enough from the game three days ago and left Ben Cee on the bench too where he remained the whole game. Jack Browne was on the bench again and came on in the 60th minute leaving just Owen Le Blanc and Moussa N'Diaye to start for the Tigers from the FMX2 players. Sir Alex Ferguson on the other hand had no worries about fitness and selected all five FMX2 players: Nicolev Cadu, Adam Fitzpatrick, Mitchell Williams, Darren Gilmartin and Robert Jones all in the first eleven.

Early goals seem to be the rage in the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy and it took just 9 minutes for another one to arrive. Leeds had had the better of the early stages but had to defend a Hull free kick. This was cleared easily to Andy Robinson who ran and ran and ran down the right hand side. He stood his cross up to the far post where JONES was rising to head home. Leeds United 1-0 Hull City (9 minutes)

The pressure was really on Hull now and they attacked in the knowledge that their hopes in the competition were looking weak at best if the result remained. Both sides had chances before the second goal arrived on the half hour and it was Hull who got it. Manucho won a corner off Richardson on the left and Halmosi's corner was aimed to the Angolan striker. However, the ball bounced loose straight to the feet of Daniel COUSIN who smashed home the equaliser from 8 yards. Leeds United 1-1 Hull City (30 minutes)

The relief on the Hull players was there for all to see but they continued to attack Leeds and carve out chances. However, they paid a price for not settling the game down just 9 minutes after the equaliser. Gilmartin picked the ball up in the centre of the pitch and slid a controlled ball through to JONES on the left side of the goal who composed himself before firing across Le Blanc and into the far corner from 14 yards. Leeds United 2-1 Hull City (39 minutes)

And that is how it stayed until the end despite Hull creating enough chances to deserve a point. Leeds snatched the victory to take them to six points at the top of the group and leaving Hull in desperate trouble at the foot of the table with 0 points and fading hopes. Their match with Huddersfield at the KC Stadium next will be vital to their chances of progressing to the Semi Finals.

GROUP A FULL TIME SCORE

Leeds United 2 (2) Jones 9, 39

Hull City 1 (1) Cousin 30

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

LEEDS: Cadu 6.7, Fitzpatrick 7.1, Williams 7.0, Gilmartin 7.5, Jones 8.4

HULL: Le Blanc 6.7, N'Diaye 7.6, Browne 6.7 (SUB)

MAN OF THE MATCH: Robert Jones (Leeds United)

GROUP A: SCUNTHORPE UNITED vs. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

Glanford Park, Scunthorpe

After their victory over Hull in the first game, Scunthorpe knew that a victory over their League 1 rivals Huddersfield would put them in with a great chance of reaching the Semi Finals of the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy. The Terriers needed to secure a result to ensure that they didn't lose touch after their defeat to Leeds at home in the first game. A disapponting crowd of just over 2000 turned up hoping to see Scunthorpe take another step to the Semi Finals.

Mark Hughes, the Scunthorpe manager, continued to select all his FMX2 players after their KC Stadium heroics. This meant another game for Zac Smith, Corporal Punishment, Kyris, Adam Holmes and their KC matchwinner, Liam Ferguson. Archie Smith and Cristobal Blanco had fitness concerns so Jose Mourinho left them out of the Huddersfield side but selected the other three FMX2 players, Ardas Nails, Demetrio Rotondo and Gervase Smith.

The first 20 minutes proved to be a scrappy, dull affair with neither side creating clear chances but the deadlock was broken on 23 minutes and it was the away side that broke it. Joe Skarz took the throw on the left and found G. Smith who cut inside, looked to shoot before playing the ball to Gary ROBERTS who smashed the ball past Z. Smith to give Huddersfield the lead. Scunthorpe United 0-1 Huddersfield Town (23 minutes)

Scunthorpe reacted well and began to create chances of their own but Huddersfield led at half time. The second half started evenly and it took a wonder strike to lift the game with Scunthorpe levelling the game up. Holmes started the move with Sparrow in their own half before combining with L. Ferguson and Hooper to set Kevan Hurst free on the right. His cross to the near post was headed away but Sam TOGWELL met it on the volley and it flew into the top corner of Smithies' goal. Scunthorpe United 1-1 Huddersfield Town (54 minutes)

The game was decided on 62 minutes in controversial circumstances. Scunthorpe attacked and the ball was played by Kyris into the feet of Paul Hayes who was viciously chopped down by a two footed challenge from Ardas Nails. Despite the pre-season friendly nature of the game, the referee had no hesitation in producing a straight red card for the Huddersfield defender. Worse was to follow for the ten men as Liam FERGUSON repeated his winning goal from the KC Stadium with a driven free kick into the roof of the net to win the game for the Iron. Scunthorpe United 2-1 Huddersfield Town (62 minutes)

Despite the efforts of Huddersfield, their ten men couldn't get through the Scunthorpe eleven and they suffered a second straight defeat whereas Scunthorpe marched on with a second straight win that leaves them joint top with Leeds.

GROUP A FULL TIME SCORE

Scunthorpe United 2 (0) Togwell 54, L. Ferguson 62

Hull City 1 (1) Roberts 23

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

SCUNTHORPE: Z.Smith 6.7, Punishment 7.1, Kyris 6.7, Holmes 6.8, L.Ferguson 7.3

GROUP B: DONCASTER ROVERS vs. BARNSLEY

Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster

Neither of these two sides managed a victory in their first games with Rovers losing a close game at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United and Barnsley drawing with Sheffield Wednesday at Oakwell. With the two Sheffield clubs meeting at Hillsborough, both teams had a chance to make ground on one of them, if not both, with a victory at the Keepmoat.

Rovers' manager Kevin Keegan started with all five FMX2 players retaining their places: Hermann Schneider, Bryan Danielson, Mark Millward, Tom Hamilton and Havo Bigabelli. Barnsley manager, David Moyes, would have to make do without Bob McBob who was out with a groin strain that will keep him out of the rest of the group games so started with just Philip Almeida, Mark Cooper, Gregory Peck and Magnus Vestergaard from his FMX2 quota. 5585 turned up at the Keepmoat, the majorioty hoping to see a win for the red and white hooped shirts of Doncaster.

The customary early goal arrived and there were two by the tenth minute. Millward found space in his own half and ran with the ball into the dangerous territory just outside the Barnsley area. He looped the ball over the full back to Bryan DANIELSON who controlled the ball, took a step forward and from a tight angle, fired the ball across the goalkeeper and into the goal off the far post for a well taken Doncaster goal. Doncaster Rovers 1-0 Barnsley (7 minutes)

The Tykes were shocked and immediately gave the ball away from the kick off, Peck the guilty player. From that point, Barnsley were struggling to clear their lines again and were hoofing it anywhere they could. Mills won a battle with Vestergaard on halfway and hit a long ball forward, Darren Moore completely misjudged it and it ran into the path of Tom HAMILTON who raced away to slot past Steele and leave Barnsley facing a mountain. Doncaster Rovers 2-0 Barnsley (9 minutes)

Rovers continued to dominate and it was always a question of 'How many?' rather than 'Would they win?' Surprisingly, it took Rovers until the injury time at the end of the game to add the third. Rovers' youngsters Greer and SHIELS combined well to get space in the area and the young striker fired past Steele to seal the victory. Doncaster Rovers 3-0 Barnsley (90 minutes)

The comprehensive win for Rovers leaves them in contention to qualify for the Semi Final stages but Barnsley need to get back on track soon with a victory to give them any chance. Rovers' did suffer some bad news though with Hermann Schneider forced off with fractured ribs that rules him out of the Boot Camp early.

GROUP B FULL TIME SCORE

Doncaster Rovers 3 (2) Danielson 7, Hamilton 9, Shiels 90

Barnsley 0 (0)

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

ROVERS: Schneider 6.8, Danielson 7.7, Millward 7.2, Hamilton 7.2, Bigabelli 7.1

BARNSLEY: Almeida 5.7, Cooper 6.5, Peck 6.3, Vestergaard 6.8

MAN OF THE MATCH: Bryan Danielson (Doncaster Rovers)

GROUP B: SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY vs. SHEFFIELD UNITED

Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield

The first Sheffield derby of the competition saw United travel across town to meet their old foes and their old manager, Bryan Robson, who the United fans had disliked with a passion. Wednesday were looking to protect a decent recent record over United and overtake their neighbours at the top of the group. A staggering pre-season crowd of over 25000 turned up to witness the Steel City derby that could be pivotal to both teams hopes for the competition.

Robson selected four of his FMX2 players in goalkeeper Wobill and outfield players Matt Ferguson, Lawrence Lazewski Jr. and Sirus Lannock with William Hall left on the bench until half time. Mick McCarthy rested Fred Brookes Jr., Haowan Madridstas and Joe Tomkins who were all struggling with fitness concerns but Setven Jaa and Geevus Canvey were fit and started for the Blades.

The game turned out to be a scrappy, even game and ended with one team taking a chance and the other team not taking any of theirs as the game ended 1-0 with a 12th minute strike the difference. Matt Ferguson took a throw in for Wednesday from the left wing aiming for Lannock but Bromby climbed high to clear with his head. Cotterill led the charge for United before finding Henderson who after a bit of luck found himself in space in the Wednesday half. His ball to SPEED was perfectly played into the Welsh veterans forward run and he had the composure to fire across Wobill into the far corner to put United in front. Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Sheffield United (12 minutes)

And that is where United remained. A very even contest with draw written all over it went United's way thanks to Speed's goal. The result leaves United clear at the top of Group B and with Hull's stuttering start, United have to be the favourites now to go on and win the competition. Wednesday need to react and find a win soon to stay in touch in Group B.

GROUP B FULL TIME SCORE

Sheffield Wednesday 0 (0)

Sheffield United 1 (1) Speed 12

Can I make a little suggestion that when people post, they could include their players name sometimes? It would help others to understand what the comment is for and who its about a little! I obviously know most of the players and users but had to look for who Striker465 was just then - I just picked you as an example by the way - whereas if he'd mentioned his player (Zac Smith - Scunthorpe keeper) it would have been easier to understand!

Just a thought!

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 3 / 6 - JULY 15th 2008

GROUP A: SCUNTHORPE UNITED vs. LEEDS UNITED

Glanford Park, Scunthorpe

The clash of the two early Group A pacesetters brought Leeds United to the small, quaint surroundings of Glanford Park to meet Scunthorpe United for the right to be top of the group at the halfway stage. With a six point gap between these two clubs and Huddersfield and Hull, both knew that a victory here could leave them with one foot in the Semi Finals even at this early stage. Mark Hughes, the Scunthorpe manager, selected all of his FMX2 players for the third straight game while Sir Alex Ferguson left out a tired Darren Gilmartin and used Mitchell Williams as a 60th minute substitute with the other three FMX2 players - Nicolev Cadu, Adam Fitzpatrick and Robert Jones all starting the game.

A crowd of 3017 was inside Glanford Park as the game kicked off and within 3 minutes, the majority of them had a goal to celebrate. It came from a Leeds attack with Becchio receiving a throw from Cadu and crossing dangerously into the penalty area. However, the ball eluded every Leeds player and Ian Morris ran away with the ball for Scunthorpe. A neat pass into Hayes was immediately played onto Liam FERGUSON who dribbled into the box and fired past Ankergren to give Scunthorpe the lead and leave them top of Group A for now. It was Ferguson's third goal so far and on the other two occasions, his goals have been the winning goals. Bad news for Leeds? Scunthorpe United 1-0 Leeds United (3 minutes)

The answer was ... No. It took Leeds just 9 minutes to level the game and it was that man Robert Jones who scored his third goal of the competition this time from the penalty spot. A Fitzpatrick free kick from the right was heading towards Becchio at the far post but he was tugged back by Matt Sparrow giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. JONES stepped up and despite the keeper, Zac Smith, going the right way, he was beaten down low to his right. Scunthorpe United 1-1 Leeds United (12 minutes)

Jones' brace in the last game had given Leeds all three points against Premiership Hull and he made it another brace before half time with his fourth goal of the competition. Again, it came from a set piece from Fitzpatrick whose corner from the left caused confusion in the Scunthorpe penalty area allowing JONES to slide the ball home from six yards. Scunthorpe United 1-2 Leeds United (32 minutes)

Leeds were dominating the possession and creating most of the chances and looked comfortable after going in front with Scunthorpe looking unlikely to find a way back apart from a couple of scares. Indeed, Leeds looked the more likely to add to their lead and they finally did so with six minutes remaining. Milne fouled Leeds' Grella on the edge of the box and from the right hand side, Jonathan Howson curled the ball over the wall into the corner past Smith's despairing right hand. Scunthorpe United 1-3 Leeds United (84 minutes)

That was how it stayed and Leeds took a deserved 3 points to keep up their 100% record and give them a foot in the semi finals at the halfway stage of the Group round. Despite the defeat, Scunthorpe will remain confident of getting more results to join them.

GROUP A FINAL SCORE:

Scunthorpe United (1) 1 L.Ferguson 3

Leeds United (2) 3 Jones 12(p), 32, Howson 84

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

SCUNTHORPE: Z.Smith 6.7, Punishment 6.8, Kyris 6.3, Holmes 6.9, L.Ferguson 7.2

Seriously, if you don't have time/can't be bothered, don't worry. You've already done loads today :)

I'll get it done. Maybe.

I dont know whether to give a shorter update for Rounds 4 and 5 so as to get to the excitement of the last group games and give a more in-depth report for that. But that's to come tomorrow anyway! Thoughts?

Sheffield United vs. Barnsley coming up!

EDIT: Forgot. Am off to see Harry Potter. You'll have to wait!

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 3 / 6 - JULY 15th 2008

GROUP B: SHEFFIELD UNITED vs. BARNSLEY

Bramall Lane, Sheffield

Game 3 of the Yorkshire and Humberside Trophy would be a massive one for Group B leaders Sheffield United and Group B bottom club Barnsley. United knew that a win would almost secure them a Semi Final spot in front of their own fans whereas Barnsley knew that a win needed to be found soon if they were to have any chance of making the Semi Finals at all. United manager, Mick McCarthy, left out FMX goalkeeper Setven Jaa for Paddy Kenny but used all four of his other FMX players in Fred Brookes Jr, Geevus Canvey, Haowan Madridstas and Joe Tomkins. David Moyes, the Barnsley manager, was still missing Bob McBob through injury but selected the other four FMX players at his disposal in Philip Almeida, Mark Cooper, Gregory Peck and Magnus Vestergaard.

The two teams ran out in front of just over 15000 spectators and it was United who started the brighter making several early half chances and it was no surprise when the breakthrough came on 13 minutes. A corner from the right was swung over by David Cotterill and it was met by Barnsley-born United captain Chris MORGAN with a thumping header into the back of Steele's net. Sheffield United 1-0 Barnsley (13 minutes)

In their last game, Barnsley had conceded an early goal at Doncaster and were hoping to avoid the same fate at Bramall Lane. Alas, they didn't manage it. Just three more minutes had passed when United made it two. A dangerous ball forward to Vestergaard was cut out by Kenny and good work from Howard and Canvey in the centre allowed United to free Speed on the left wing. The experienced Welshman ran down the line and crossed from the byline towards the far post where COTTERILL got the better of Souza and bundled the ball past Steele to make it two. Sheffield United 2-0 Barnsley (16 minutes)

Barnsley's confidence was on the floor and, as at the Keepmoat last time out, you feared that this could be a rout. They managed to steady themselves after the second goal for a little while but more bad news followed just after the half hour. Brookes Jr. and Canvey worked a series of passes before finding Howard in space. He drifted forwards and played a lovely through ball down the left channel where TOMKINS had made the run and he slotted past Steele into the far corner to make it three and effectively seal the victory for the Blades even at this early stage. Sheffield United 3-0 Barnsley (31 minutes)

Half time provided Barnsley with some respite but the scoreline did reflect United's dominance with Barnsley shotless in the first half. The second half saw United take their foot off the pedal a little and Barnsley finally managed to create a little and they got a small chink of hope on 76 minutes. Hassell's long ball found Rigters on the left hand side and he outmuscled Kilgallon at the byline. He laid the ball back to Van Homoet to cross and from a few yards out it was MIFSUD who got the touch to pull one back. Sheffield United 3-1 Barnsley (76 minutes)

A little bit of hope for Barnsley. It didn't last long though as United extinguished it four minutes later. Sun Jihai's throw in found Kyle Walker and he crossed the ball low to LUPOLI who turned and struck the ball home. Sheffield United 4-1 Barnsley (80 minutes)

From the kick off though, Barnsley showed the fight that couls still give them a chance in this competition and came straight back again. Kozluk and Devaney combined well down the left hand side before Devaney drifted inside to find MIFSUD again. The little Maltese striker controlled the ball on the edge of the area and fired past Kenny to pull another goal back. Could Barnsley keep going? Sheffield United 4-2 Barnsley (81 minutes)

The next goal would be key: if the Reds got it, the game would be wide open; if United got it, it would be game over this time. The goal came just three minutes later ... And it was now game over. Stephen Quinn found the ball in the centre in acres of space and looked up to pick out Kyle NAUGHTON. He composed himself before firing past Steele to seal the three points for the Group B leaders. Sheffield United 5-2 Barnsley (84 minutes)

That was the end of the scoring and a deserved win for United who dominated the game from start to finish. They are now almost secured a place in the Semi Finals and one more win may be enough to win the group. However, Barnsley now have major problems and need to pray that Doncaster don't beat Wednesday later.

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 3 / 6 - JULY 15th 2008

GROUP B: DONCASTER ROVERS vs. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster

With Sheffield United winning the game with Barnsley earlier, both Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers knew that this was a massive game in terms of gaining the advantage for second place. A win for Doncaster would see them go five points clear of Wednesday and Barnsley with three games remaining and manager Kevin Keegan used all four of his remaining FMX players to attempt to make sure of this with just Hermann Schneider missing with his fractured ribs. Brian Danielson, Mark Millward, Havo Bigabelli and Tom Hamilton all started the game. For Wednesday, victory would see them leapfrog Rovers and go second in the table at a crucial stage. Their manager, Bryan Robson, chose to leave William Hall and Lawrence Lazewski Jr. on the bench with Hall coming on on the hour with Lazewski who had to go off a few seconds before the end of the match. Wobill, Matt Ferguson and Sirus Lannock all started for the Owls.

In front of over 7000 spectators at the Keepmoat, Doncaster had the worst possible opening 8 minutes. First up, Wednesday took the lead after just 5 minutes. Spurr won the ball for Wednesday at the back and made a pass to Jermaine Johnson on the right. He teased the full back Roberts before delivering a cross from the byline. Rovers handled this well making the clearance but it hit their own man on the back on the edge of the area and rebounded into the path of LEKAJ who poked the ball past Sullivan. Doncaster Rovers 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday (5 minutes)

Worse news followed three minutes later. Already without Hermann Schneider through injury, Rovers lost their influential defender Matt Mills as well meaning that their first choice defensive partnership was now gone. How would they be able to cope with FMX champion Sirus Lannock now?

The game was very even and both sides were creating half chances but no more. The second goal came a few minutes before half time and despite the even nature of the game, Wednesday were the team that went into half time two up. A free kick on the right was floated over by Lekaj and he found Sirus LANNOCK at the far post and he volleyed home from inside the six yard box. Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday (42 minutes)

Just after the hour, Rovers stepped up the pressure as they sought a way back into the game forcing a succession of corners and free kicks but to no avail. Wednesday survived these and launched an attack of their own with Lekaj crossing from deep. This was headed out as far as Bragg who controlled the ball and found William HALL who stepped forward and drove the ball home from 25 yards past the right hand of Sullivan to seal the game for Wednesday. Doncaster Rovers 0-3 Sheffield Wednesday (64 minutes)

From the kick off though, Rovers produced a response. A ball down the left by Gareth Roberts found Coppinger who cut inside. His shot was blocked but Martin Woods recovered the ball and crossed from the left for CHAMBERS to head Doncaster a consolation goal past Wobill in the Wednesday goal. Doncaster Rovers 1-3 Sheffield Wednesday (66 minutes)

However, more Wednesday pressure in the 69th minute sealed the game. A succession of crosses had been cleared when the ball span loose to Lazewski Jr. on the left and he cut the ball back for Leon CLARKE to stab home from close range to end the scoring and win the game for the Owls. Doncaster Rovers 1-4 Sheffield Wednesday (69 minutes)

A massive three points for Wednesday that lifts them to second in the group, five behind leaders Sheffield United but one clear of Doncaster with a superior goal difference to boot. Doncaster will need to pick themselves up as they still have a chance and were unlucky to lose so heavily in this game which was quite even throughout.

GROUP B FINAL SCORE:

Doncaster Rovers (0) 1 Chambers 66

Sheffield Wednesday (2) 4 Lekaj 5, Lannock 42, Hall 64, Clarke 69

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

ROVERS: Danielson 6.6, Millward 7.0, Hamilton 6.0, Bigabelli 6.6

WEDNESDAY: Wobill 7.3, M.Ferguson 7.0, Lannock 7.4, Hall 7.5 (SUB), Lazewski Jr. 7.0 (SUB)

MAN OF THE MATCH: Rocky Lekaj (Sheffield Wednesday)

BOOT CAMP: GAME DAY 3 / 6 - JULY 15th 2008

GROUP A: HULL CITY vs. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

K.C. Stadium, Hull

With Leeds and Scunthorpe streaking away, neither side could afford to lose this game and if we're honest, a draw wouldn't do either much good neither. Premiership Hull knew that a victory was a must and Neil Warnock selected four of his FMX stars with just Moussa N'Diaye on the bench - he was to come on for the last 6 minutes of the game. Ben Cee, Owen Le Blanc, Az Toscani and Jack Browne all started, Browne for the first time in the competition. Huddersfield were probably the team who would be happiest with a draw but Jose Mourinho is not known for giving things up; he selected all five of his FMX players: Ardas Nails, Cristobal Blanco, Demetrio Rotondo, Archie Smith and Gervase Smith.

13750 spectators showed up at the KC Stadium showing the importance of the game and within 60 seconds most of them had a goal to celebrate. Toscani ran at the heart of the Huddersfield defence which backed off and allowed him to shoot. However, this was deflected wide to the right where Ben CEE was forward and he slammed the ball home to give Hull an early lead. Hull City 1-0 Huddersfield Town (1 minute)

Hull were certainly looking more confident now and on 15 minutes they made it two. Geovanni won a corner on the right which he took himself floating it over to the far post. Meeting the ball and jumping highest was BROWNE who marked his first start with a bullet header into the corner. Hull City 2-0 Huddersfield Town (15 minutes)

Huddersfield were struggling to cope with Geovanni and Toscani who were causing a threat every time they got the ball. However, the third goal was created by Bryan Hughes. He ran with the ball, played a one-two with Ricketts before playing the ball into the feet of Browne. His first time ball to TOSCANI was perfect and the Italian American rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to make it three for Hull. Hull City 3-0 Huddersfield Town (24 minutes)

The game looked over as a contest and the Premiership side seemed to be heading for a very easy victory. However, Huddersfield found their feet within moments of bad news. Gervase Smith went off injured (a sprained ankle which will keep him out of the remaining Boot Camp games) but within seconds, Huddersfield had one back. A long diagonal ball from Dominik Werling found Cristobal Blanco wide on the right. He drifted inside and laid the ball off to ROTONDO who placed a calm, controlled shot past the hand of Le Blanc and into the bottom corner. Hull City 3-1 Huddersfield Town (28 minutes)

The goal rejuvenated the Terriers who began to dominate and it was no surprise when they pulled a second goal back before half time. Gary Roberts' free kick from the right was perfect and CADAMARTERI stooped to head home at the far post. Hull City 3-2 Huddersfield Town (42 minutes)

Hull were panicking and they needed a calm head to sort them out. Fortunately for them, they had just that man in the little Brazilian Geovanni. It was Ricketts who won the ball from a poor Huddersfield throw in and he slid a magnificent through ball to GEOVANNI who calmly lifted the ball over Smithies and into the goal to make it 4-2 at half time. Hull City 4-2 Huddersfield Town (44 minutes)

However, Huddersfield were not finished and within a minute of the second half kick off, they were right back in the game again. Rotondo and Berrett played some good football on the left to find Cadamarteri who ran at the Hull defence. As he was looking to shoot, the ball ricocheted clear to Kiegan PARKER who slotted home from the edge of the area. Hull City 4-3 Huddersfield Town (46 minutes)

It was turning out to be a fabulous game of football and it was a brave man who would have bet on the outcome. The outcome became a little clearer though in the space of four minutes around the hour. First, a Kilbane throw found Ricketts who moved the ball on quickly to Hughes who struck the ball firmly into the corner of the net to restore Hull's two-goal advantage. Hull City 5-3 Huddersfield Town (58 minutes)

And their early three-goal advantage was also restored moments later. Barmby won the ball on the right for Hughes to find Dawson. His ball into the box found TOSCANI who placed the ball past the keeper to seal the three points for Hull. Hull City 6-3 Huddersfield Town (61 minutes)

Huddersfield would not lie down though and yet again, they threatened a comeback with another goal of their own. This time, Archie Smith was involved and he found veteran Booth on the edge of the box. His touch was perfect for CADAMARTERI who smashed the ball home. Hull City 6-4 Huddersfield Town (69 minutes)

That was, surprisingly, the end of the scoring and Hull secured a win that was very much needed. Huddersfield are now three games in without a point but with two excellent performances against Leeds and Hull, they have shown that they could have a say in the outcome of Group A yet even if they are unlikely to qualify themselves.

GROUP A FINAL SCORE:

Hull City (4) 6 Cee 1, Browne 15, Toscani 24, 61, Geovanni 44, Hughes 58

Huddersfield Town (2) 4 Rotondo 28, Cadamarteri 42, 69, Parker 46

FMX PLAYER RATINGS:

HULL: Le Blanc 6.8, Cee 7.9, Browne 7.6, Toscani 8.5, N'Diaye (LATE SUB)

HUDDERSFIELD: Nails 6.2, Blanco 7.1, Rotondo 7.4, A.Smith 6.9, G.Smith 5.8
