Just got to 31 2022 December on my first save.
The only significant players to run their contracts down to 6 months were Messi, Ronaldo and Gaya. For all other players, clubs managed to negotiate an extended contract in advance, and not even on crazy wages.
I know Villa just did this with Douglas Luiz, but one would expect a decent number to hold out to put pressure on the negotiations. Reiss Nelson for example, was easy to come to terms with before he reached 6 months (although I have integrated him into my squad).
Tielemans is a bit of a shocker - no way he's going to resign before January. If the response is, well you should declare an interest/scout/unsettle them - well no, because another club should be doing that too. But yes, the keenest club that's pulled out all the stops should get a bit of good will in player negotiations.
