  • Huge sponsorship amounts

Grasshoppers and Lugano are 2 teams that start 2021/22 season heavily in debt.

In August 2021, they sign sponsorship deals worth more than 20 millions euros (duration just 1 year).

Both clubs have front-end "sugar daddy" status.

It just seems strange that owners don't just cover debt... they invest even more...much more....

I think a bit "too much" for the Swiss championship status.

    Is this normal ?

Our QA team will look into this a bit further @Xpert but sponsorship is the way a lot of high worth individuals who purchase clubs will do it this way. There is a very strict limit you can invest directly into a club under FFP rules, sponsorship allows some way around this. Those who are front end are looking to make teams competitive at the highest level so would cover more than just debt. It does stand out as a high amount though so we will be checking this.

Our team have investigated and have said this is expected behaviour for sugar daddy clubs, so nothing to worry about! :)

Thank you nonetheless for raising the point!
