  • Welsh Cup updates, European Play Offs and Reserves

    Welsh Cup:
    Welsh cup needs updating for 2021/22. To include:
    Cymru Premier sides enter tier 2 and are seeded to produce ‘David vs Goliath’ matches
    Coeffect set up for future years
    No extra time. Straight to penalties.
    Dates for the rounded are much earlier this year. (First round being 14th August, Second round being 4th September. etc etc)

    Cymru Premier European Play offs:
    With Wales having one less qualifier for Europe, then the European Play Offs at the end of the season are being used at qualification for the Scottish Challenge Cup instead.

    Reserves:
    No reserve leagues running. Doesn't look set up at all.

    @Abdullah Patel To add to this, it seems Welsh (and all non-Scottish) teams don't qualify for the SPFL Trust Trophy at all, so the issue is wider than just not having a playoff for it. They aren't in the 21/22 cup due to Covid but will return in 22/23 and onwards - another source for this here.

    As for the reserves mentioned above, a source for that (including the initial structure) can be found here, with further confirmation that they have continued into the 21/22 season here. Evidence that the league did in fact start can be found here on an official club website (as the FAW do not currently publish standings for the reserve leagues, just as they don't for the youth leagues).
