I'm creating this post to address an ongoing issue that has been persisting since Football Manager 23, primarily concerning the Inverted Wing Back role on attack (and sometimes even on support/balanced settings).
In Football Manager 22, I was able to employ a tactic that functioned flawlessly with my IWB. It involved the following movement:
In FM23, however, I noticed a significant change. Both of my IWBs tend to stay wide during possession, overlap with their wingers, and refrain from entering the penalty area at all cost, which was a stark contrast to FM22.
For a visual comparison, consider the type of movement an IWB on ATTACK displayed in my FM22 tactic:
As you can see, the IWB, in this case, d'Ambrosio, positioned himself centrally and advanced high up the pitch during the possession phase. This dynamic, which had been available in the 2022 version, seems to have vanished.

Furthermore, I would like to highlight the potential movements and goal-scoring capabilities of an IWB on attack within this tactic:
All the goals presented here were scored by IWBs, not false 9s or 10s, underscoring the offensive prowess of this role. Sadly, it seems like that's no longer possible in the game.
In FM24, I have attempted to replicate the exact same tactic, but the IWBs do not exhibit the same positioning in the middle here my IWB are the 19 and 2 :
Please give it a go in FM22 and then in FM24 to witness firsthand the contrasting movements of the role, both in attack and support/automatic duty. This direct comparison will illustrate the issue more effectively.
