China in my Copa América 2024 group.

After some research I found that the Copa América groups are 5 teams per group, so 10 total, not 12.

2021 had 10 nations but it is expected that 2024 will have 12-16 teams from 2-3 confederations. There is often an "invited" nation from elsewhere - Mexico, USA, Jamaica etc

That makes more sense, that's pretty cool, thanks for clearing that up!
