Banbury going well.
Got Coventry as a parent club and got three fantastic youngsters off them - A striker, Attacking mid and a right winger. Also signed heaps of players and gone miles of my wage budget Julian Alsop will be used as my big target man upfront haha, although i have micheal charles as a great backup! My other good players and Tony Sculley, James Younghusband, Joe Dolan, Ashley Bayes and Fabien Wilnes!! Mon the Puritans! |

Awful pre-season so far, only scored 1 goal and lost all 4 games.
Have signed this young Welsh LB who looks promising, and my assistant views him as my best defender. Only one issue...he's only 15 and doesn't turn 16 for another 11 months so cannot play this year |

Monday 25th April 2011 is a sad day for football. Gilbster is without warning sacked from Hendon town after almost 3 seasons in charge. My only consolation is that my trusted Assistant manager has decided to follow me out of the club.
Will post again later with a new club. Although I have some other saves on here ready for a sacking, I think I will try a medium database instead just to get some more speed out of the game. I hate longish processing times. |

Playoffs Update
Team: Mangotsfield United Division: Blue Square South Year: 08/09 Pre-Season Prediction: 22nd Final Position: 3rd (Playoffs) Heya folks. Promised an update on my Playoff shenanigans, so here it is! (By the way, can't believe how quickly this thread is moving. Think we could have a record for participation this year?) Playoff Semi Final Leg 1 After finishing 3rd in the league, I was up against the mighty St.Albans in the semi of the playoffs. I was quietly confident of beating them, despite knowing that my star striker Green(who had almost single handedly got me here) would miss the 1st leg through injury. After 28 minutes though, it all went a bit Pete Tong, and Albans took the lead through their prolific striker Lee Clarke. No fear I thought, win it 2-1, and with Green back for the 2nd leg, we'll hammer them! And so when Hopkinson equalised for me after 35 minutes, and Frost put us in front on the stroke of half time, I was feeling rather smug... Of course in true FM style, St.Albans took centre from my 2nd goal, went up the pitch, and got a contentious penalty. 2-2, Clarke again. I was fuming. Read the team the riot act at half time. And it worked. Within 1 minute, we were 3-2 up, with big man Thorpe scoring a screamer! However with just 18 mins left, Clarke popped up once again, to level it at 3-3, which was the final score. Leg 1 Now, in my fit of rage, when questioned about the "dodgy" penalty after the game, I lambasted the referee... not my cleverest decision. And so it was, that I kopped a 1 match touchline ban for the most important game of my season so far... Playoff Semi Final Leg 2 So knowing I was banned for the 2nd leg, I was pretty much resigned to losing, as my Ass Man had all the managerial ability of Aggie the Tea Lady at St.Johnstone... How wrong I was to doubt though... Leg 2 Spankage!! Despite missing a pen, we managed to hump St.Albans 4-1!! I was ecstatic! Playoff final here we come!! The Big one... The Playoff Final I was to play Ebbsfleet, the team who had only just fell away at the end of the season to finish 2nd, and I was dreading a humping to be honest. And when they took the lead through Kerry 7 mins into the 2nd half, I thought the worst. But once again, my boys came back. Stepien scored just 7 mins later, and with 6 mins to go, he scored an absolute screamer to put us 2-1 in front! As time ran out, my a*se was making chocolate buttons, but Ricketts picked up his 2nd booking in injury time for Ebbsfleet, and we saw out injury time to secure promotion!! Blue Square Premier here we come! An excellent first season, and proof that even real men, who pick real teams, can still succeed!! |

Hey ScottishSteven congrats mate
Just curious if you have a parent club or not? I'm managing the mighty Mangotsfield and i've got Bristol City; had the choice of both city and rovers though! |

A little update.
I've now reached august 2nd and I finally got my team ready. I signed 22 players on free transfer in the last month (my only option as I didn't have a transfer budget) plus 1 assman, 6 coaches, 1 physio and 2 scouts. It's all looking good (well....goodish). I can't post a picture of my most valued player as they are all valued at £1k. So far I've played 4 friendlies (2 more to go before season start) 1 win, 1 draw and 2 lost. I'm £112 per week over my wage budget. Media predictions are 17th in the league. I've made a link with a parent club: Barnet (League 2) and I have a feeder club!!! All my players are english except two: an irish defender and a gambian/french striker (he was released on free from Leicester, I then scouted him and offered him a contract). Of all the players my scouts have scouted only one was not a "sign at any cost" player. Probably makes sense since I didn't have any players so every player would be good to have. |

Yeh, I have Cardiff as my parent club. I originally had Chelmsford, but they were gash. So about Christmas I changed them. Made a massive difference. I had the option or Bristol Rovers too, but thought Cardiff had the better players available to me. |

Some counties in europe this year have odd knowledge of brazil or cameroon, don't know why since they have no connection There appears to have been some confusion with the researchers over knowledge, in the researchers database (or whatever they have) it seems to be called Preffered Transfers, rather than actual knowledge, so for the researchers it seems to have meant what Nationals do certain Nations like to sign, rather than Person from Country X should have knowledge of players in Country Y and Z. Apparently it'll be fixed for the patch. I'll join the challenge once my game arrives |

Just had my First Match
Had a squad of 11 players, one got quite badly injured in the first half, had two central defenders playing in center midfield. Finding it hard to find any free reasonable center mids. |

They only sent one player cookie, and he turned out to be my strongest player. A lad up front called Matt Green.
Other than that, I only got a left back off them, that didnt have too much of an impact. This season they have gave me 3 lads, Green again, a centre half and a centre mid. Hopefully they will help keep me up, although Green isnt playing anywhere near as well as he was before... |

Oh, and surely this is becoming more than just a coincidence now??
Bath Again?? And also, surely the idea of a fan day is to boost your own attendances?? So why in the hell have my board decided to have our 1st ever one for the AWAY match to Halifax??? |

****************** Banbury United ****************** Well with Banburys 1st game of the Conferance South ahead against Lewes, It was a fantastic result. We conceded Eearly on and it looked terrible, our star 16 year old who netted 2 in 2 games off injured Lee Moore gets his debut, signed on a free transfer he bags two!!! http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...0Manager/2.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...0Manager/2.jpg With a gritty defensive performance to cap things off Marcus Gayle breaks through in the 94th minute and sends a 25 yard screamer into the net. capping an excellent day for united |

in on this.
I started yesterday with Chippenham but I used the savegame from the website, and after looking through posts here it seems the same players, same parent clubs keep coming up which won't be as interesting. Also did the reserves tournament thing (with english clubs), didn't know it was frowned upon. Soo i'll start again tonight with my own savegame. |

Boreham Wood March 2009 update. Conference South.
(H) Wood 0 Braintree 1. (A) Wood 0 Merthyr 1. (A) Wood 2 Ebbsfleet 1. Semple, Gilroy. (H) Wood 0 Dorhester 2. Current league position 6th Despite producing the best performance of my tenure, to hand top of the table Ebbsfleet their first league defeat of the season, (scoring twice past this bloke in the process), we drop out of the playoff zone after 2 narrow 1-0 losses and a 2-0 hammering by 2nd placed Dorchester who are now in pole position at the top of the league. With only 5 games of the season remaining we sit 2 points behind Merthyr and it will be tough to claw the points back as 3 of our 5 remaining games are away.
Dorchester 84 Ebbsfleet 83 Crawley 67 AFC Wombles 64 Newport Co 62 B/Wood 60
2 Two of our 5 remaining games are against Crawley and Wombles so me aren't out of it yet. The smart money is on the top two teams being promoted anyway. They are considerably better than the rest of us. With 5 games left we still have a chance of promotion. If you had offered me that during pre-season I would have bitten your arm off to accept. It's squeeky bum time. |

end of season 1
whitby town finished 2nd in BSN, lost in play offs semi to kings lynn. Team played solidly all season, apart from Kettering who were class above, would have been very close thing. Playing game last season(FM07) as Whitby definately helped, knew who was good to choose as feeder club('Boro) came in useful as 2 quality loaness joined up well with youngsters. Hines and Barbers led the line well, and an homage to Jimboka1971 target men stylee worked well. Finances a struggle as wages just under £3000 per week(way over budget) and board constantly not happy(media prediction 18th!), despite having 120k in bank(thanks to good cup runs) 2 fans days resulted in 1-0 victories but poor games and little benefit. Wonder how others got on with this feature? Usual brilliance of challenge Dafuge, hoping new budgets may relax purse strings a little, and this season will probably put kids in Setanta and FA Trophy comps. Played nearly 60 games this season. |

September Update

Harrow 3 - 0 Bishops Stortford Hutchinson Ephraim Jailow Braintree 3 - 1 Harrow Ephraim Havant & W 4 - 4 Harrow Ephraim (3) Hutchinson Harrow 1 - 1 Tiverton Osano Harrow 4 - 1 Sutton Maher (2) Barron Ephraim Harrow 1 - 1 Edgeware (FA Cup 2nd Qual. Round) Moore (OG)
Had a stumble, 3 games in a row without a win, but you have to ask questions of your defence when you score four away from home and still only manage a draw. Awful result against Tiverton, worse result against Edgeware. Needing an own goal to struggle to a replay against some nobodies that don't even have a ****ing league. Disgraceful and I let them know it. Ephraim cup tied for the match, probably the main reason I struggled because as you can see, he's awesome. 6 goals this month, just fffb. |

aahaha, this game is just utter ***** sometimes. Seriously. Replay against Edgeware. No highlights in the first half. 2 highlights in the 2nd half, their goal and my red card. I was playing two in defence for half an hour, how can there be no highlights, especially on extended. Utter, utter ******** tbh.

I thought that my 1st rount Santana Shield game was an epic, how about this:
Match Stats I swear that my players must have hit every piece of woodwork on the pitch. The right winger hit 3 pieces. The 3rd round pitches me against Chelmsford, who I managed in this challenge last year. I am disapointed that we couldn't capatilise on the man advantage, but more diapointed that the ref didn't play the advantage for the professional foul that saw a Basingstoke DC go for an early bath after 10 minutes. The "press" also thought that the match was breathtaking. |

Margate appoint rookie to fill the vacant managerial position
Well, after two days of trying to get Ramsgate or Tonbridge Angels, manager Simon Davis took the position at Margate. With a ground size of 2100, no budget and no players to speak of the challenge ahead is enormous. Profile

Well getting closer for me to take up the 08 challenge though right now I am unsure if I will jump straight over as I am quite enjoying my Gateshead 07 game in Dafuges and seem to have built a conference winning squad for 09/10 :P So looks like League 2 here we come, but then I wanna be playing with everyone else lol...Oh the messed up mind. I spose I could try and get Gateshead again seen as I have enjoyed them so much...

After trying to get a different Kent or Sussex team I eventually resigned myself to being Margate. Like most others in here, I think given the chance I'll jump at the earliest opportunity in order to take over one of the over Kent clubs. |

Chippenham Town End Of Season Update 09/10
This season has been one that Chippenham Town fans deffinatly wont forget. After a respectable 8th place finnish in the 08/09 season rookie manager James Leedham decided to go out on a limb and promise to make Chippenham Town Title contenders in for the 09/10 season. His ambition payed of with a small wage budget increase allowing him to bring some new talent to Hardenhuish Park. After some long negotiations with Parent Club Reading and some of last years Loan players he managed sot re-loan star player Vicktor Illugason once again. Unfortuantly the promise of regular football wasnt enough to tempt Cherno Samba and Hal robson-kanu to spend another season at the park. After a promising start to the season Chippenham found them selves at the top of the table. Dispite this start and a 12 game unbeaten streak, the lack of wins caused them to drop down 6th place and from there the started to slide further finding them selves in 9th place with only 6 games of the season to go. After speculation about Leedhams Job saftey ge knew that those last 6 games where going to have to count and they did, recording 6 wins in 6 games and scoring 17 goals. Despite not challangeing for the title they did find themselves in the play offs with every chance of gaining promotion to the Blue Square Premiership. League Position Graph League Table The Play of semi final was against 3rd place Newport county and the first leg was away at the Newport stadium. In this tight game the two teamswhere only seperated by a goal from Chippenham favourite Vicktor Illgason in the 94th minute. First Leg The second leg was at the Park and with a slight lead, chippenham where the favourites. Craig Mcallister fired home in the 16th minute only to be answered 6 minutes later by john Mcaliskey. Luke Ruddick then hit the net again for Newport and all seemed lost for Chippenham, But the bluebirds werent finnished and in the 96th minute Craig Mcallister netted again to give chippenham the win 3-2 on aggragete. 2nd Leg Chippenhams rivals in the final where 5th placed Billericay. The pundits couldnt tell these two teams apart but said if they had to go one way or the other Chippenham had the edge. Chippenham once again looked to Vicktor Illguson to win the game for them but despite many chances and the Iceland manager Sverrisson looking on, he couldnt hit the back of the net and it was up to new signing John Morgan Of the British Virgin Isles to answer Louis Bells 42nd minute strike which he did with a dramitic 86th minute goal. Neither side managed to find a goal in the last few minutes of the game or the extra time the followed and the game went to the lottery of a penalty shoot out. Despite being named as the BSS's "Worst Signing of the Season" Jack Smelt became some what of a hero in those last few minutes saving the first 3 shots from billericay meaning third choice penelty taker kevin nicholsons goal won the final and promotion for Chippenham. Play Off Final In the cup competions CHippening had poor runs in the FA cup and Setanta Shield going out in the 3rnd Qualifing and 4th round respectivly. Despite this there cup run hopes where not dead and they stormed there way to the final of FA trophy after a nail biting semi final against coca-cola league 2 side cambridge, with a 0-0 draw aaway and a 2-1 win at home. This left them facing Blue square premier 3rd place team, Burton Albion. In what was once again a close game watched by both the iceland and Virgin Isles managers, Vicktor Illguson once again shone and netted a last chance 90 minuteute goal. FA trophy Final In othe chippenham News Vicktor Illugason won the BSS player of the season as well as being the leagues top goal scorer and Manager James Leedham came second in the manager of the season competition, new signing and first choice goal keeper Jack Smelt was unfortuantly voted the worst signing of the season. Player of the Season Manager of the Season Season Summary All in all a season to remembered in CHippenham, and we look forward to what James Leedham and the team can acheive in the Blue Square Premiership next season. James Leedham's acheivments where rewarded with the addoration of the Chippenham Town fans and a new contract until 2013. Is this the best start to the challenge yet?
My 1st competative game with my 100% new squad which is getting paid a total of £1,012 per week. Gotta say I thought I might have a not bad squad but this result has blown me away |

Suprisingly Lee McEvilly hasn't done much this season, but this makes up for most of that
Was 2-1 down on 83 mins aswell, great comeback in the end, the title is in reach now |

I still can't get Ramsgate or Tonbridge and reckon I am closing in on 500 restarts - god I am sad!
I have however just got Prescot Cables!! Think I am probably the first one - if so I'd be happy to provide the file. Yes my copy is 100% genuine!

Well I have downloaded a Prescott save from the site, but if you upload yours as well that could help as I have no idea how genuine my current one is...thanks John I decided I wanted Prescott a while ago, now trying to fight off the Gateshead pull. As my 07 challenge is going well. So I think I might just take Prescott and try to get some of the Gateshead players...

Boreham Wood April 2009 summary. Conference South.
(A) Wood 1 Stortford 1. Caddick. (A) Wood 1 AFC Wombles 1. Semple, Gilroy. (H) Wood 1 Basingstoke 0. Gilroy. (H) Wood 1 Crawley 0. Bailey. (A) Wood 0 Eastbourne Boro 1. Final league position 5th We kicked off our last league game of the season in 5th but were soon down to 6th as we conceded an early goal. We went back up to 5th as other results went our way before dropping again, this time 7th. We were unable to get the result we needed, (despite battering Boro for much of the game), but lady luck smiled upon us and both results went our way and we moved back up to 5th and therefore secured an incredible playoff spot. Our prize is a 2 legged knock-out against Ebbsfleet who look like they should have been champions. It was us that robbed them of their title as we handed them their first league defeat about a month ago, only to see them lose to both the Welsh clubs since then. One of their top strikers, (Luke Moore), is injured and I am hopeful that the 22 goal man will miss both legs. This is where I earn my money............ The playoffs await |

As promised last night, my half season has just come around and thought i'd do my half season review
Mangotsfield United - January 1st 2009 - Conference South As originally mentioned, having had a nightmare trying to get players of any sort of quality, I did eventually manage to prize a couple of defenders my way, but not much in the way of a strikeforce. As you can see from the past position graph my season started slowly, with barely no goals scored, but hardly any goals conceded. I made my team play to their defensive strengths, and trying to catch teams on the break. Having had a little whing |

Bedford Town - Blue Square South Pre-season 09
So i was trying to build on my relative success of last year, but a lot of quality, including my keeper went back to my parent club, petervorough, where they were released. and no longer interested in lower league football... So I ended up with a couple more loanees and about 10 free tranfers. I felt I had really built on my success, but these were my results: Bedford 0 - Peterborough 5 Ok, so I never expected to win, but it was a pretty poor performance. 1 shot on target. Bedford 0 - Lewes 2 Much closer, but then it should have been really. I never looked like scoring. 2 shots on target. [B]Bedford 0 - Corinthian-Casuals 2 My own little feeder club kicked my butt. I had one shot on target. Dunstable 1 - Bedford 0 Oh. My. God. No shots on target. Bedford 0 - Kettering 4 And my nightmare is complete. I dominated this one with 5 shots on target. So to summarise P 5 W 0 D 0 L 5 F 0 A 14 And only 9 shots on target in 5 games. I've got my first game of the new season away at Welling in 4 days. I'm over wage budget and worried... |

I made my team play to their defensive strengths, and trying to catch teams on the break. Having had a little whinge last night about being unable to sign no players on loan, a little bit of perciverience payed it's due and rewarded me with him and him Since the signing of these two players, you can see the uprise in my teams fortunes as now conceding even fewer and with artus scoring for fun from the attacking midfield role. Seems hard to believe that two players can make so much difference to the team but this shows differntly. My current squad doesnt compete in terms of quality of some of the other teams, but a strong work ethic in the team makes sure we're still competing even going into the new year. Cup competitions were nothing to shout about with early exits in all, with manager concentrating solely on the league. Hopefully it'll be onwards and upwards for Mangotsfield and their manager Michael Sergent, and another review will be along tomorrow with an end of season review, with positive results *fingers crossed* One can always hope eh?? Thought I would post this for Jimbo,A Certain Mr Wilson and wanted to see what he thinks I should do, have got a fair idea though!! Hope everybodies having fun in the challenge, as I know I am, and cant wait to get cracking again in the morning |
