Football Manager 2010 Gold Demo Links and FAQ - LOOK HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the immediate availability of the FM 2010 Gold Demo. That’s right; it’s here, earlier than expected!

All of us here at SI believe that FM 2010 is our best game yet, but we know that you will be the judge of that and welcome your feedback. So let us know what you think of it on these forums.

We have always worked closely with the community to help us shape Football Manager, but I’d like to take the opportunity on behalf of everybody at SI to thank all those involved in the beta testing programme and to all of you for continuing to support us.

Over the past 12 months we’ve taken some risks by changing the way we work in an attempt to deliver you better games from the get go. We think we’ve achieved that starting with FM 2010 and we intend to go from strength to strength.

Onto the FM 2010 Gold Demo and all the details. The demo comes in two flavours, both “Strawberry” and “Vanilla”.

The strawberry demo will be available from a variety of places starting with Steam (PC only with Mac to follow soon), then torrents, then direct downloads, and these will be listed below when they are made available. The vanilla demo is available exclusively via Mirror Football.

The vanilla demo includes:

Quickstarts for the following countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

Language packs: English only

Stripped assets: including no player pictures, club logs, competition logos, sounds, etc

It is available exclusive through MirrorFootball -

PC & Mac - Vanilla

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/football-manager-2010/ and is around 275MB.

The strawberry demo includes:

Quickstarts for the following countries: Brazil, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Northern Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Wales

Language packs: Danish, Dutch, English, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish

Full assets: including player pictures, club logos, competition logos, etc for where we have the license. Full pitch textures, stadiums and sounds.

If you are using the torrent route, we would greatly appreciate if you could seed the demo as much as possible to help others get it too. :)

FAQ

General Questions:

Where can I download the FM 2010 Gold Demo?

We have three different options in regards to downloading the demo:

1. Direct Download - Click on the following link to be taken to a download site: Vanilla Download - From here you'll be able to select the Demo and download it directly to your system

2. Steam - You can download the demo direct from the Steam network, and it will download into steam much like when you buy a game

3. Torrent Download - Click on the provided links to download the 'Torrent' of the demo. To use the torrent you will need to have a 'torrent downloading' program referred to as a 'client'. Further instructions can be found below:

How to use a Torrent:

Find a torrent program that will suit your needs, the most common clients are Utorrent, Deluge, Vuze and BitTorrent. There are plenty of other clients available as well.

Follow the instructions on downloading and installing your chosen client. Download the torrent via the link provided

Usually, the web browser's file download manager will ask what to do with this file. You want to open the file with your torrent program.

If it doesn't open that way, just save the .torrent file to an easy to locate place. Then open your torrent client and use the "Open Torrent" feature (Most torrent clients support click & drag).

The download will start automatically. You may now go and do something to pass the time, because torrents do not require your attention and will download in the background.

What is the difference between the 'Strawberry' and 'Vanilla' Demo?

The Strawberry demo contains all the sounds, player pictures and logos within the game. Because of this additional content the file is larger and will take longer to download. The Vanilla demo is a stripped down version of the game, which runs exactly the same but is just a smaller download file.

If you have a relatively slow internet connection we suggest it's probably best to download the Vanilla version.

What are the minimum specs for running the Football Manager 2010 demo on my system?

PC

OS - Windows XP/Vista/Windows7

Processor - XP - 1.4ghz or faster Vista/W7 - 2.0hgz or faster

Memory - XP-512MB Ram, Vista/W7 - 1GB Ram

Video Card - 128MB minimum. Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 or greater; Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater.

Earlier cards may only display 2D Match Viewer Mode and are not supported.

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.

Mac

Intel Processor, OS X 10.5, NVidia Geforce 7300 GT / ATI X1600 Radeon

Please note, if you system doesn't meet the requirements, the game may work, but we/SEGA do not offer support on these machines. We suggest people who aren't certain if it'll work do indeed try the demo first before buying the game.

What leagues can I run via the Demo?

In the demo you can only run 'quick start' games, which only run one league and a small database.

The demos include the following:

Vanilla

  • PC and Mac
  • English language
  • England, Scotland, Wales and NIR quickstarts

Strawberry

  • PC and Mac
  • All Euro Languages
  • England, Scotland, Wales, NIR, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey quickstarts

How do I install the FM 2010 Gold Demo?

After downloading the demo you will have to open the file to begin the installing process. This can be done by double-clicking on the downloaded icon. Once this is done, just follow the simple on-screen steps to install the game. Once installed a shortcut should appear on your desktop. Just double-click this to run the game.

How do I update my Graphics Card Drivers in order to make the game run better on my system?

This of course depends on your graphics drivers.

Some computer manufacturers insist you download drivers from their own sites. Please refer to the website of your computer manufacturer for downloads and any potential troubleshooting.

Here are the websites of the largest graphics cards and chipset manufacturers:

Nvidia (Gforce/Legacy)

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

ATI (Radeon)

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Intel (Onboard Chipsets)

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

There are other manufacturers of graphics card drivers. If you can not find drivers for these cards they may have been discontinued. Please ask in this case as we may still be able to help.

I don't have Java installed on my machine and I'm having issues with the Demo Installer

The installer we use makes use of Java and therefore it's important to ensure you have the latest version, particularly if you are experiencing problems during the installation process.

1. Uninstall any version of Java you have first.

2. Visit this website: linkext7.gifhttp://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

3. Find the correct version for your Operating system and download/install from here.

Where else can I download the demo from?

If you've been having difficulties downloading the game from either of the two links, we will update this FAQ with further links where you can download the demo from. Please bear in mind, when the demo is first released there will likely be quite a high demand which could slow the download process

Technical Issues:

In the preferences it says my graphics card is five-star, yet the match engine is running jerky - what's going on?

We’re aware of an issue in regards to the star system which doesn't always show correctly - we would suggest if you find 3D is running jerky to put it on the lowest setting and try running the game without the crowd loaded.

I've downloaded the demo and it states it is an unknown publisher/select a program to open this file with and I cannot run the demo

In this circumstance, you need to re-name the file with .exe at the end. Doing so will allow the demo to run correctly.

I'm trying to download the Demo via Steam, but it just keeps refreshing the page instead of downloading

We’ve found that logging out and closing down your Steam account, then logging back in will help with this issue.

I get the message "FM2010 Demo d3dx9_41.dll not found"

You need to update your DirectX, this can be done from HERE

If you continue to have issues with DirectX, there are further links below:

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

or for the full package

DirectX End-User Runtimes (August 2009)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-442d8712d553

If neither of these work, some people have reported success downloading from the following site:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_41

Error: Cannot run game: Failed to set up graphics system.

Fix: Please download the following update from the Microsoft Direct X SDK: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

When downloading this file please use the Firefox browser as some people have encounter difficulties when using Internet Explorer

You should also check that you are running the latest graphics driver, you can do this by visiting the computer manufacturer website, or by visiting the graphics card manufacturing website.

Also if you are running Steam, make sure this is not running when attempting to install

When launching the game you receive the following Error: "FM.exe application error. The application has failed to initialize correctly (0xC0150002). Click on OK to stop the application."

This can be resolved by updating the Microsoft Dot.Net framework, please visit HERE

You are receiving the error: 'FM2010 could not run as 'facegen' was unable to initialize!'

Please ensure your graphics drivers are up to date, this should solve the majority of issues regarding the facegens.

You are receiving the error: 'This application has failed to start because saAuditMD.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem'

Please download the file from HERE and place in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010

My PC won't let me install the game

If you are having trouble installing the game please make sure you are on an Administrator account for your PC. If it is failing on an administrator account it would be worth creating a completely new account and trying again.

I'm using Windows XP64 or Vista 64 bit and the game won't install

If you are having trouble with Windows XP/Vista 64bit then you should change compatibility mode to 'Windows XP', do this by right-clicking on the game icon, clicking properties and changing the compatibility mode to 'Windows XP'

XML Parsing Errors

Whenever I load or attempt to start a game. I get this message:

'not well informed (invalid token) at line 1 of profile. '

It means one of your 'Profiles' has been corrupted. Shut down FM, delete the cache files and this should solve this issue (but you'll also lose stored profiles that are selectable from the drop down menu when you start a new game).

Details on how to delete your cache files can be found above.

Other XML Errors

"not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of last_saved_game.xml"

The game says it cannot be loaded

This can sometimes be resolved it by defragmenting the hard drive.

Open and run Disk Defragmenter by doing the following:

Windows XP

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “My Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2009 installation.

4: Go to “Tools”

5: Click “Defragment Now”

6: Click “Anylise”

7: Click “Report” – Check to see if the saved game that is not loading is listed as having missing fragments.

If it does have missing fragments then move the save to an external source (USB Memory Key, External Hard Drive) and try loading the game fro there. If the game works from the external source then running a full Defrag on the Drive should allow you to load it again. If not then your game is probably corrupted.

Windows Vista

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2009 installation.

4: Select “Preferences”

5: Select “Tools”

6: Select “Check Disk”

7: Select “Start”

If the Save Game was showing any missing fragments then try to load the game again as Check Disk would have attempted to fix the problem. If that does not work follow the steps from Windows XP. Copy the file to an external source and attempt to run it from there. If successful defrag the Hard Disk and then try again.

I want to see the new animated nets on my Mac, but I'm still getting the old ones

Unfortunately the new animated nets are not working currently on the Mac. This is something we are aware of and are looking into.

Quick Questions:

Will I be able to continue my save game once I buy the full version of Football Manager 2010?

Yes, all save games will be compatible with the full version of the game.

How long does the FM 2010 Gold Demo last?

As always with our demos there is no 'real life' time limit on the demo, however in-game the end date is dependent on the league you're running - it'll end roughly six months after the start date.

How do I uninstall the FM 2010 Gold Demo?

The demo can be uninstalled like any other program by going to your computers 'Control Panel' and depending on the Operating System, go to either 'Programs and Features' in Vista and Windows7 or 'Add remove programs' in Windows XP.

From here you can select the game and begin the uninstall process.

On the Mac go to install location, the default location is 'Finder' -> 'Applications' -> Sports Interactive. Once you find this folder, drag it into the trash can and then empty it to remove the game from your system.

I've uninstalled the game, but the FM 2010 shortcut icon still remains on my desktop

This occurs when running the FM 2010 Gold Demo on Microsoft Windows Vista. Simply right-click on your desktop and choose to 'Refresh'. The shortcut icon will now disappear.

I think I've found a bug in FM 2010, what should I do?

In this situation, we would very much appreciate it if you could inform us of the bug in our 'Bugs Forum' which can be found HERE

This way we can look into the issue and try to get it fixed for any future patch or future version of the game. Remember though; please do a search before creating a new thread as it may have already been spotted!

Can I use my tactics and training routines from FM2009?

Unfortunately you cannot use FM2009 tactics in the new game, however you can load your old training routines.

I really want to try out the new editor, where is it?

Unfortunately the editor is not included with the demo; you'll have to wait until the full game! Sorry!
