whats wrong with steam? HELP!!!!

When i click on steam.......NOTHING HAPPENS!!! Whats going on? Ive tried uninstalling, which when i go to restart it says steam is open? no steam icon in my notification tray either!!! PLEASE HELP ME IM LOSING MY MIND!!!!!!!!

ctrl + alt + delete

Go to Processes and locate steam.exe, right click it and end process

You don't need to use steam to play the game, even if you've installed or authenticated through it.

but ive got the latest patch on steam, can i still use it without steam???

I've installed though Steam, do I have to run the game through Steam each time I want to play?
No you don't, you can create a shortcut to Football Manager 2009 without having to use Steam. Go to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Football Manager 2009\
and right click the fm.exe file and choose "send to desktop (create shortcut)"

right ive done that, now it keeps crashing when i load the game, ive had this problem before but it seemed to fix it by playing through steam........... what can i do???????

Steam may well be corrupted, if you can't get it to work may be worth uninstalling it and re-installing it, although you'll probably have to un-install and re-install FM as well which may take a while.
