trekman
You need to install the latest patch. Then go to options\preferences then untick enable advert hyperlinks

phnompenhandy
2 points - as said, the patch adds a tickbox in preferences to turn off the link. Also in the Skinning forum you'll find some guys have made brilliant 'real' hoardings but they don't link to advertisers' sites.
Hamselv
You need to install the latest patch. Then go to options\preferences then untick enable advert hyperlinks That will only prevent you from accidentally clicking some of the advertisements – It won't stop the game from connecting to the ad-servers, which seems to be the problem here. Also in the Skinning forum you'll find some guys have made brilliant 'real' hoardings but they don't link to advertisers' sites. Adding some new hoardings might prevent you from seeing the adverts provided by the ad-servers, but to the best of my knowledge it still won't stop the game from communicating with them. So, unfortunately there is no way of playing the game online, and at the same time preventing the adware in FM09 from doing its job - Sad but true. Matt ex SEGA
The in-game advertising isn't actually active at present, it's using the default files from the disk. Just wanted to confirm for all the tinfoil hat wearers...
