MrPompey
I think this is more associated with a striker holding up the ball waiting for support ?
Neji
I think this is more associated with a striker holding up the ball waiting for support ? Indeed. Why would you want your DM to hold up the ball?
Carl87
I think to allow wide players to get in positions etc. My wide men do tend to find a lot of space when I've set Nigel de Jong to hold up the ball more often, what normally happens is he holds up the ball and this in turn allows my LB and RB, who are both attacking mentality, to get forward and make themselves available. MrPompey
Indeed. Why would you want your DM to hold up the ball? I think you would call this "puts foot on ball" e.g. slows the game up, waits to make the killer pass
TheSBH
Hold up ball is for Target Man If your def mid do it the opponent will take the ball and score a goal

Hold up ball is for Target ManIf your def mid do it the opponent will take the ball and score a goal or it could be crouchy picking up the ball and holding up in the air as no-one else could reach it
Neb
You tell your DM to hold the ball up to let the rest of your team to get into position. A bit like makelele used to do for chelsea. Its useful if they have 'dictates play' or 'holds up ball' PPMs. If they are able to pass accurately, then they you can use them as a playmaking 'quaterback', who sits deep and fires passes all over the place. LAHoward
too risky for dm to hold as there are many strong opposing targetmen that would see this as taking candy from a baby in your own zone.
Neji
A DM slowing the game down is the last thing I want. I want my DM to be breaking up play then thinking abou getting it forward quickly.
