Having not received my copy yet, I'll try to help without a lot of knowledge of your system.

Can you say what your graphics card is?

There is a list somewhere of the graphics card specs. It's a bit late in the evening for me to check but I'm sure one of the stalwarts here would be able to tell you whether it is good enough

Hi, thanks for the tip, just tried a couple of downloads, unfortunately not compatible with my system! Will try again tomorrow from Intel, if no such luck, might have to order a new graphics card! I've been playing FM since I had an Amiga and I've never had any real problems apart from today and reading everyone else's issues as well, its a complete disaster. I've just got in.

Was having the trial expired and then unable to connect to internet error in SoftAnchor.

Here's what I did. Dunno if it's fluke or what but.....

Shut down steam. Navigated to my steam folder and found the steamapps folder. In that is a folder called common and in that is an FM09 folder. I clicked on the exe and it brought up the Soft(W)anchor window as usual.

Then I typed in my key in lower case. This time my firewall (COMODO) threw up a dialogue box asking me if I wanted to let FM.exe connect. I said yes (obviously) and it worked! Hallelujah!

Give this method a try and see what happens. I've been trying since 5pm so there is hope...

i did the manual way like Ir0n duk3 posted, steam a on my xp would not have any of it but my vista pc just romped away installing it. now all i need to do is get my network drive sorted and move my save game to my older xp pc then i can start muli-tasking again......mining on eve-online and playing footy manager ftw

Just to check, that is a card on the intel 865 chipset? The graphics might be too old to use the 3D but there is a link to download a directx 9 SDK update that *might* enable you to use the 2D. It is a very old card though if I'm right so I can't guarantee anything. One of the SI people is more likely to know than me.

sorry if this has been asked already, but I won't be getting my boxed copy of the game until tonight, can I download the patch now in the normal way, and still activate the game with steam and then update with my downloaded patch, or do I have to let steam download/install the patch?

good luck with STEAM mate, I tried to authenticate it with STEAM and 7 times later no luck. 1st time with UNILOC and bingo, instant success. I have boxed copy & I also downloaded the patch the normal way. So yes, you can do it that way but give UNILOC a go 1st, just hope it isnt down like it was yesterday

My graphics card didnt work with the Demo and mine is Intel also. But with the release day patch, all is well and the 3d match engine is simply awesome !

Dont touch any driver updates yet until you've installed the patch and ran FM09 to see if that fixes it, it my just save you a few moments of your time later on

This is actually the best security protection I've ever seen in a game. Those who bought it, can't play it.

I disagree! Its good but not as good as that employed for Sim City 3000 World Edition - I got that home and low and behold there was no disk in the box! May I respectfully suggest that SI employ this protection for FM10, it was very effective.

Hi guys. Cheers for eventually get it fixed, I admit I was raging yesterday after 7 straight hours of refreshing pages etc but I know you were trying. I phoned this morning but after the 3rd activation number it said my authentication number was invalid, however I tried the same number on my PC (which is below min spec) and it worked fine authenticating over the internet. I dont have the internet on my laptop though. Could you tell me why its not working when I phone?

I bought the game through STEAM yesterday morning and spent an hour or so downloading. I then had the cannot connect to internet errors all day until half 7 last night.

I'll talk you through what my problem is now.

I then click OK and nothing!

Where do i go from here??

I'm running the game on my laptop with XP, have downloaded Direct X SDK to see if that was my problem, no luck there. I've just ran out of ideas and my 13 year old step son is absolutely gutted!

really struggling inserted disc installation started then if wanted to do authentification through steam or over phone chose steam option, had to create account put all details in then it said creating account. nothing happened for a good half hour coundn't do anything.

Solution to a common error!

If you're seeing the following message: "The application failed to initialize (sic) properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application."

Try installing the latest .NET Framework form the Microsoft downloads ste. it took an hour or so to download via my dial-up connection but it fixed the bug I had with Uniloc and I've managed to get my game up & runnin, saved, exited and back into it again with no problems. If only I could've done that at some point yesterday during my day off! Watch out Premiership, here come the Rovers!!

Ok so I have walked into a retail outlet & purchased a game for £30 of my hard earned cash, I checked the minimum specifications on the box and read the blurb, NOWHERE did it say an Internet Connection is required for play, NOWHERE, furthermore this "phone activation" people keep talking about, I cannot see a mention of it in the manual, whoever has found it I would like to know how, not that it matters as from reports on here is goes to a battery replacement company in another country, an international call!

If the later is correct, and I cant say as I cant find the number then this is the massive, elementary mistake! Either way I think trading standard would be very interested to hear about a product you require internet connection to use which doesn't notify you on the box, ok so you can phone a mysterious phone number IF you know it exists, but don't expect the software to tell you this.

Furthermore you update the activation "SERVER" (Not even Servers, but server!) and this pulls the phone activation down too, just how stupid are you guys? Surely one of these is the fallback method, they should be seperate, if one needs updating the other should be working until this is complete!

So to sum up I have brought (sorry, been miss-sold) some computer software at an over inflated price to get home to find out I HAVE TO HAVE INTERNET to play one way or another, because lets face it even if you do want to use the phone to activate you seemingly have to find out the number you need to phone off the internet as it is not in the packaging, so you phone up the activation number which unless you are lucky is an international call to find out it cuts you off half-way through the process, so you re-try & re-try, eventually you give up & go down to the library to pay to use an internet connection to find out what the hell is going on!

You are by now a further £5 down at least (and this is not including your travel money to library or net cafe), you still cant play the game have no constructive answers from the support team.

So for the sack of argument lets consider a couple of scenario's.

1. A University student purchases this game tonight on the way home, gets back to learn he requires an internet connection to activate, having been unable to find the activation number he goes down to Uni to use a computer and locates the number required, at which point he phones it using his PAYG Phone, failing a number of times he is now out of credit, only he can't buy more as he just spent his money of a game. What does this Gentleman do SI?

2. Times being tight (credit crunch n all) a customer gets his last £35 notes out of his pocket to pay £5 to get to town & £30 to purchase a game gets there and realises both Call of Duty 5 and FM09 came out and he wants them both, realising he cant get both goes for the one which is most likely to be money well spent and a place to waste some hours away, only he now experiences the same troubles! What is this person supposed to do SI?

Excellent post. On a lighter note i took the day off work and did eventually get to play the thing after approx 2 hours, patching included - and I know I was one of the lucky ones. At one point for light relief I did "spank the monkey" and I can tell you it was the least w@nk part of the morning for me! In fact as a piece of constructive advice, being told not to log on because the poor serverwervery is unwell (ah didums!) would have been less useful that being told to "go self pleasure myself"

I keep imagining every time the bloody annoying (in retrospect) advert for FM appears on telly that the guy in the suit is actually frantically trying to establish an internet connection & type illedgible misprinted codes into a warped DRM puzzle game.
"Why do you put yourself through this?" the man from the press asks.
"Its what I do" comes his reply.

Bad show all round SI , ... except for the game - those still not playing take note - when you eventually do it is surprisingly the best FM yet.

Keep the faith but do not let those responsible for this fiasco go unpunished.

I can't find anything with the same problem. But I appear to have the Authenticated through Steam but now when I click launch it says it can't run the game as it failed to load the garphics system or accasionally that it is already running.

Downloaded fine. However after first friendly it kept freezing.

So I downloaded patch via torrent (3 hours). Opened up via 'open containing folder' and it asked me to download. The downloading (said there were 171 items to download) took 5 seconds!

So I assumed it has done it as on main screen it says football manager 9.1

However its still freezing! and only way I can come out of it is ctrl/alt/delete and task manager!!!!

I have Mac and when I play FM09 and look at players I cannot see what positions they are playing. I only see lots of numbers. Where its supposed to say name of club it shows numbers as well. Playing in windowed mode with OSX 10.5.5. Any fix for this?

Unfortuantely there was no way for us to have forseen this problem and rest assured we are working incredibly to get this fixed asap and I will update you as soon as I know.

With respect, someone in your organisation is or should be responsibe "to have forseen this problem". I suspect SI had little / no involvement in the decission process leading to this debacle. I was angry before I got the thing sorted earlier but I'll wager no one is more annoyed than the Collyer Brothers. Maybe next year your product should be released through:

My code doesnt have any 'o's but it has seven '1's or 'i's which as we all know are basically impossible to distinguish....

i get that this isnt sega/SIs mistake but what is annoying me is that when i enter what i think the code is into the mistake checker thing it just keeps telling me that it is 'unable to find my code', regardless of whether i change all of them to '1s' or 'i's or have a mix of both....

im told that there was an error with the installation and to check the install log. when i do the message

Damn right, it is simply not good enough that they just say all Mac users will have to wait til Monday to play the game because they didn't get the patch signed off in time. If you release a product and there are problems with it and it is still on the shelf, you work and work until you have fixed those problems.

As tiger stated, a bit of overtime on Saturday would have been a good idea to get the patch signed off. It's like I mentioned in an earlier post it feels like I've gone into a fancy restaurant and ordered their biggest, juiciest steak only for the waiter to come out of the kitchen and say "I'm sorry sir, but you will have to wait until Monday to eat your steak as our chef has gone home for a pot noodle and a w^nk!"

Had a few issues with the Uniloc log in.

Eventually found it wasnt just the 0 and o. There was also a character that could of been a I or a 1.
However it was shockingly a T lol.

Im at university and so when im living away from home I work and play over my laptop but this weekend im home and have bought the new FM only to have this stupid code problem,
Ive uninstalled the game and reinstalled via the other options and have downloaded steam and signed up but i still get the same dam unable to connect problem,
Ive tried the phone activation method as well only to get onto the 3rd response key for it to tell me that the first key I entered was wrong,
Just tried installing the game on my home pc for it to work fine but still no luck with it on my laptop even though the product key is right,

This whole things a joke, id like to think someone with some power to help me will message me with a solution but after the last 24 hrs I cant see this happening, will play the game tonight over my PC and if i have no success by Monday ill return the game

I tried for 18hours yesterday to get on and again this morning before work and now am back from work still the same, SoftAnchor saying 'unable to connect to the internet' I really need help with this now, it's really frustrating me to see folk who have been trying less time than me get on and be playing the game yet am still sitting here.

Hi guys. Cheers for eventually get it fixed, I admit I was raging yesterday after 7 straight hours of refreshing pages etc but I know you were trying. I phoned this morning but after the 3rd activation number it said my authentication number was invalid, however I tried the same number on my PC (which is below min spec) and it worked fine authenticating over the internet. I dont have the internet on my laptop though. Could you tell me why its not working when I phone?

The same thing has happened to me repeatedly. I really dont see the point in offering this as a way of entering the code if it is impossible to work. Surely it was tested? I also find it embarrassing that they are picking and choosing what posts they are replying to. I wonder how many customers are now going to use rival games for their managerial needs?

Unbelievable... Once again a releasedate at SI got postponed.

So (unless they decide to delay it again) it'll be released on Monday then.. right?

You can't, the demo should play anyway restricted to 6 months play. If it asks you for authentication it ain't the demo

Bit ****ed that Steam dictates where the install goes tbh.

I'd like to use Steam, but it forces the game onto my system partition.

It activates on Soft Anchor, I click "OK" then nothing happens.

everything goes fine on softanchor until I enter my code and it tells me I have a error 51 - how do I fix this?
