Here's a quick 'where are they now'

Ben Amos - Bolton Wanderers

Sam Hutchinson - Sheffield Wednesday

Micah Richards - Aston Villa

Gavin Hoyte - Barnet

Robbie Threlfall - Free agent since 2014. Last played for Morecambe

Dean Parrett - Stevenage

Michael Johnson - Retired. Last played for Leicester on loan from Man City but was released in Dec 2012 over 4 years after he last played for the club

James Henry - Wolves

Theo Walcott - Arsenal (still)

Jose Baxter - Free agent, last played for Sheffield United

Scott Sinclair - Aston Villa

Taking that as all true

Jose Baxter :( old FM favourite.

Maybe not so much now....

On 16 May 2015, Baxter was suspended by Sheffield United after failing a drugs test.[18] In July, the FA handed him a five-month suspension (three of which suspended) for testing positive for ecstasy, which he claimed was ingested in a spiked drink.[19] He was suspended by his club again in February 2016

Did they not think Rooney would still be about by then? :D

Tbf it's easy to laugh but it's virtually impossible to predict these things. Somebody bump up the old thread where we all tried to predict WC18 (I think) teams

This is the problem with these things, they get all excited and pick an entirely different squad and comprise it of 'the kids'.

I remember posting on a bulletin board at the age of 18 with complete conviction that John Curtis would be an England regular, probably captain, within a few years and for the rest of his career. Should've listened to the replies.

To be fair you were not alone in that assessment. There were many people in football who thought the same at one time. He just came on the scene after the class of 92, & was thought to be the next one to make the breakthrough, which never came.

And Paul Jewell would be the manager.

I remember 'Football Magic', the one with the big red binders with bits about every club, from 1999/2000. They did a future England XI and guys like Lampard, Joe Cole and Carrick were in there, as well as guys like Nicky Weaver and Michael Ball. Don't know if that's incredible luck or if they have a good eye.

You can name an XI for just 6 years, managed by someone current like Alan Pardew, and it'll either be the 2016 squad who're under 27 or some of them mixed with young uncapped players who've had a good start like Antonio or Lingard. Either way, quite a few of them won't even be in the squad. It doesn't take into account players who aren't even professional yet. Watch in Qatar as young real life regen Robbie Cole scores the goals and Heineken Gascoigne stops them.

Then take into account the manager. If Roy stays, or someone like him is in charge next, there's no chance guys like Pickford, Tomkins or Adam Smith are going to earn one cap unless Man Utd or Arsenal buys them.
