Tiki Taka 2323. Possession and Gegenpressing Football

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Recently, I had been searching for a tactic that I wanted my team to play. After downloading various tactics here and share-download-fm-16-tactics/, I found out that I like a bit of "A", "B", "C', etc.

After inspiration from Fenech in his own thread(his tactic is one of those I liked), I decided to tweak and try to lump everything I liked into this tactic.

With some trial and error, I came out with this tactic. It's about the same as http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/448994-Pep-Guardiola-s-Barcelona-TikiTaka433-and-an-alternate-4231%EF%BC%8Cfor-any-patches with some slight variations.

Without further ado, I shall share with you guys the possession and gegenpressing tactic.

This is actually a Barcelona tactic from Pep's era.

One important part of the tiki-taka, is the collaboration of the defense and attacking, as the team is always in possession – in balance – as players will take up the roles of the other, provide cover and support in the ball circulation and the process of regaining possession as fast as possible. Here the transition phase is minimized as much as possible as it is seen as lost time by the help of utilizing an extremely high defensive line which gives you the assumption that the team plays the majority of the match in the opposite half.

Former successful FC Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola, who re-invented the false nine, once said;

“We want to emulate the amount of running players must do. When you win back the ball, there are 30 metres to goal rather than 80. I want Messi as far forward as possible.”

I wanna share this tactic for people like me:

  • High amount of possession
  • Comfortable when the ball is in opponent half
  • Gegenpressing
  • 1 touch passing

TEAM SHAPE

Barcelona has MSN, Real Madrid has BBC, Man Utd has MMM. :D

TEAM INSTRUCTION

NkWzyHU.jpg

  • The short passing play looks to retain possession not taking any necessary risk in your own half.
  • The lower tempo is necessary to ensure that the wingbacks gets time to move higher up the pitch.
  • Play out of defense ensures that the players will pass their way out of defensive third with short passes.
  • Working the ball into the box - I wants my team to wait for an opening or work hard to create gaps which they can exploit.
  • Low crosses - lack of height in the team.
  • Push higher up making sure the team press collectively high up the pitch.
  • Close down much more coupled with specific player instructions to close down more often and opposition instructions will ensure that the opponents will have less time to get control of the ball.
  • Tighter marking ensures that the players will stay in a close range of his opposite marker, making it more likely to intercept passes.
  • I prefer to keep a narrower shape than them without sacrificing the required width needed in the final third to create gaps.
  • Prevent Short GK Distribution - haven't seen much difference with or without.
  • Very Fluid - it allows the whole team to press as a compact unit.
  • Attacking - If you want to counter-press, you need to get men high up the pitch.

great article though .. regardless of which version of FM it was based on :brock:

Well, I been looking at threads after threads searching for the tactic that I want my team to play.

Basically, possession football is about the same.

I just need to know how to integrate pressing into it.

The other issue is that of course a great tactic on paper doesnt work as it should in the game ... always very frustrating!!

Agreed!

This tactic requires players of a lot of teamwork, work rate and stamina.

Coz they are instructed to press, press and press.

This is really interesting!

Could be something I want to try out when I am going to make a new save. Going with a low league team tho. And build around this tactic.

How is your pos stats? And do you only use this tactic? Or do switch home/away?

Possession is high 50s.

I only use this.

Home/Away will dominate possessions.

Ah... Hate when that happens :|

But please do tell me how it goes :)

Yea. Will update here if it works better than the one I posted.

Anyway, remember to let the tactic to be fluid.

You will be mesmerized by the 1 touch football. :)

Hey nice post and really well explained, very similar from the one of passion4fm web but i like your new ideas of Attacking instead of control or standard and you got slighly better OI's as they are more as i would have done, the preffered foot to show i mean, gonna try had really good success first with Arsenal and then with Las Palmas with passions tactic gonna see how it goes with your approach, will let you know, only got one little request could you manage to do a similar base tactic but with the IF's as midfielders and the wingback more at the back, i made sort of one but dont get constant results. i wanted to make it for keeping the ME thinkink coz through the season the performence in some matches drops. Nice thread! keep the good work!
