Reliving a Classic on Classic

Following the birth of my beautiful daughter, the only way I can continue to play Football Manager at anything like a decent pace is changing to Classic mode. Whilst I do much prefer the features of the full game, it does take a while to play. (Though the excellent level 8 database made by Magic Mastermind et al is set to return for FM16, so I may well revert then).

Anyway, I have had two epic saves in the past with Billericay Town. One on CM01/02 where I took them to the Premier League from the Conference and won the F.A. Cup and the other on an earlier version of FM where I got as far as the Championship from the Isthmian League before the new save came out.

Initially, I was running this save on holiday mode, holidaying a season at a time while surfing the internet. Then at season end, I spotted Billericay promoted to Conference South and with my baby on the verge of being born, I thought this was the ideal time to switch.

So here goes...

2018/9 - Billericay Town (Conference South)

Contract: 1 year, £450 per week

Board: Fight bravely

Media: 20th

Bookies: 2,000-1

Season tickets: 73 for £800 (??!!)

Value: £189,000

Something tells me this is going to be bloody difficult...

Our first win comes in match 6 after starting pre season with only 11 players at the club. It takes another nine games to win again.

At the turn of the year, we are in a dog fight at the bottom.

Defeat at Dorchester relegates us with five games left to play.

Oh dear. No Billericay epic this time round. I resign when the season finishes rather than wait for the automatic sacking at season update.

2019/20 - Cups

It seems in Classic I can't filter out competitions in the fixtures.

In the F.A. Cup, we beat Trafford and Daventry before losing to a team from the tier below us.

F.A. CUP FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND REPLAY - Histon 1e Southport 0

In the F.A. Trophy, we lose to a team that a couple of weeks earlier we beat in the league.

F.A. TROPHY NORTH FIRST ROUND - Southport 2 Stalybridge Celtic 3

Disappointing.

What an end to the season...

One game to go and four teams and take the final two playoff positions...

Vanarama%20Conference%20North_%20Overview%20Stages_zpsqc1yjz6c.png

On the final day...

King's Lynn 1 Southport 1

AFC Telford United 1 Chorley 0

Stalybridge Cletic 1 Ashton United 0

Tamworth 3 Altrincham 1

We conceded in the 87th minute and finish 7th. Damn.

2019/20 - Southport (Conference North)

Contract: 1 year, £500 per week

Board: Above mid table

Media: 7th

Bookies: 25-1

Season tickets: 213 (down 6) for £37,488 (down £1,056)

Value: £361,000

Sponsors: £30,000

A decent start and we're mid table and look promising for an improvement.

At Christmas we lie just outside the playoffs. Boston United are still undefeated and well clear at the top.

With ten games left to play we lie in 5th and form is good.

Then we blow it on the final day at already relegated King's Lynn Town (see above)

Even though you lost out thanks to Kings Lynn you must take some consolation in knowing that you hit the media expectation and beat the board expectations for the season and it puts you in a good position to strengthen for next season.

That is true, but when we played well, we played really well and were able to dominate games for long periods. It didn't happen too much though.
