Can't work this out, suggestions?

I've been a long time lurker on the forums and I've had moderate success with this year's version of the game and tactics (read all the stickies on the site, i.e.), but I can't get this formation to work out right. It's only preseason but I am concerned that I'm not getting the ball into scoring positions enough and also am not holding enough possession against weaker teams I've scheduled against. I believe the problem to be in the midfield but after trying a combination of roles, I can't figure out where I have gone wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to play an attractive style of football using shorter passing but I know that may not be possible with my squad and am more than willing to adjust. I want to be solid defensively but also have an attacking presence and so far I am getting neither part right.
