[FM13] Whitehawk Down

GreyedOutMan

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Having realised that my quasi-protest (moving to the Dafuge FM13 forum upon realising that FM15 didn't work for me) hadn't really caught on, I thought I might as well start up a new thread so I can share my adventures with the masses.

As you will see, my save started off slowly, but has gathered momentum, and in 2030 I've just been promoted to the Championship with Whitehawk. Click on a year to find the report. I will either link or post every report from now on. Any comments greatly appreciated.

Whitehawk | Season 2030/31 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 24th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

We started really well in the Championship and going into the 3rd round of the FA Cup against local rivals Brighton, I felt really good about the season. We lost that game. And then we didn't win again. Literally. For THREE AND A HALF MONTHS. A run of three points from eleven games saw a change of formation: I dropped the problematic DMC and switched to three at the back. It worked a treat, and 2nd placed Sunderland were dispatched 2-0 at the Stadium of Light. I wondered whether four wins from four at the end of the season with a new formation mightn't be the springboard for a promotion push next year, but it wasn't to be as we lost to Brentford next up. It's frustrating because I was looking like challenging for a playoff spot before the FA Cup 3rd Round. I'm not ready for the Premiership yet, but it would have been a real achievement to have reached the playoffs four years running in three different leagues! I forgot to take the screenshot of my position graph this year - but it took a major nosedive after the first half of the season!

Cup Runs. Nothing special here, although beating Leeds was nice.

Key Players

Patrick Lynch* - the leading creator was a player who was a bit-part player last year in League One. Big surprise. But he was good.

Nathaniel Judge - the only player to have played in every division so far, Judge has been a star, belying his age in the Championship.

Jim McCrink - made the step up really well.

Mickey Naylor - proved himself to be equally useful in the Championship!

Arturo Morandi - ridiculously, I picked him up from Juventus on a FREE transfer! His wages aren't cheap, but by god he's good!

Jack Smith - our bad run more or less precisely coincided with his long injury. If he's this good at 17 (which he was for most of the season), imagine what he'll be in 5-6 years!

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - Naylor and Ball inducted.

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Paid: £1,500,000 for Jack Smith from Newcastle, 26th July.

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £300,000 for Dion Sayer to Exeter, 6th January.

Highest Transfer Spending: £2,600,000

Highest Transfer Income: £575,000

Most Games Without Winning: 13 - 8th January to 12th April.

Most Games Lost in a Row: 5 - 19th October to 2nd November.

Highest League Position: 17th in the Championship.

Oldest Goalscorer: Mickey Naylor - 33y166d, v Sunderland (A), Championship, 15th April.

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

MARCUS BALL

A key part of the League Two promotion season, never quite cut it as a defensive midfielder, though, and I got so many top quality centre backs in that he is now surplus to requirements.

APPS: 139, GLS: 4, ASSTS: 4, MoM: 13, AvR: 7.20

Targets for 2030/31

Survival. SUCCESS with consummate ease. As soon as I signed Smith, I knew this would be a doddle.

Sign another four players of Championship quality. SUCCESS - written before the season began. Jack Smith was already a beast at 17, Neil Green had the physicals to dominate the midfield, and the others all had the potential to be stars. Then my scouts pulled up Arturo Morandi! And then in came Salva Arredondo on a FREE TRANSFER! Christmas came late! I'd add Gerster and probably Roisland to that list, too - this is a big yes.

Cup run to boost finances for a push for promotion after two seasons once again. FAILURE - but the spending I did this season was, with one exception, successful, and though I spent a lot, I feel the quality I have in the side is good enough to make it worthwhile - and so does my board, who have seen fit to give me another bumper transfer budget, they're clearly happy with debt! I was in debt for most of the season!

Targets for 2031/32 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Within 10 points of a playoff place.

Two new signings in key player roster.

Get £300,000 a year off the wage bill in cash sales.

Next season will be our last at the Enclosed Ground, with a decent capacity of 17,430 in a new stadium. Oddly enough, it will be called the Tsakiridis Arena. I would have put good money on the Finney Stadium, myself...although Tsakiridis Arena has a pleasingly absurd sound to it!

Whitehawk | Season 2031/32 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 23rd)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

I don't usually cover my coaching. However, getting Tsakiridis in as a coach was quite special, especially with the stadium, named in his honour, due to open at the end of the season. On the pitch, we did improve, although perhaps not as much as I would have liked. The ten games either side of New Year saw us exit the cup at Carlisle and pick up just five league points. Our good end to the season meant that was the time we surrendered a playoff place, realisitically. Just twelve more points would have seen us get a spot. But there was definitely progress this year and that is something (and this despite serious financial difficulties which the signing last year of Smith caused).

Cup Runs. Pretty poor this year.

Key Players

Fraser Calder - unexpected entry here - but definitely deserved it. But he's 31 and wanted a lucrative move elsewhere I reckon, so he'll be off now.

Nathaniel Judge - still as good as ever.

Jim McCrink - retains his place after a good year despite some stiff competition for his place.

David Powell - equal top scorer, did a good job this year after not really starting the season as an automatic first choice.

Arturo Morandi - looking like a pretty good bit of business.

Jack Smith* - fewer goals this year and fewer assists but a higher average rating. Named the Championship's Young Player of the Year. At only 18 during the season, he's definitely going to be a key player for years to come - IF I can afford him. I can't, at least until my new budgets arrive. May have to sell.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - no new inductees - but just look at my centre-back pairing. Tough to beat, that!

Key Records Broken

Most League Appearances: Nathaniel Judge - 575, overtaking Finney's 551.

Fastest Goal Scored: 14 seconds, David Powell v Birmingham City (H), 17th February.

Oldest Player: 34y51d - Nathaniel Judge v Burnley (A), 24th April.

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £525,000 for Johannes Gerster to Norwich, 8th January.

Highest League Position: 13th in the Championship

Highest Average Attendance: 4,829 - beating 4,584 in 2028/29. It will be significantly broken next year!

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

MILES DONALDSON

He was good, but he never managed to unseat Nate Judge permanently, and with money low, I wanted him off the wage bill and selling him freed up a couple of hundred thousand.

APPS: 92, GLS: 5, ASSTS: 11, MoM: 2, AvR: 7.17

MICKEY NAYLOR

Managed to get a healthy sum for him - a great player for me, but I had others coming in who were just as good.

APPS: 210, GLS: 19, ASSTS: 53, MoM: 16, AvR: 7.30

AHMED MEGRAS

He was my best 'keeper to date. But it was time for him to move on with others coming through.

APPS: 194, CONC: 252, ASSTS: 59, MoM: 0, AvR: 6.96

GUY RICHMOND

Has been in the shadow of Calder and others for most of his career but he was key in League Two and the first season of League One.

APPS: 168, GLS: 5, ASSTS: 25, MoM: 7, AvR: 7.03

GREG McCOURT

The main man in getting us finally promoted from the BSP and then surviving in league two. Gradually faded from there but still managed close to a century of goals for me.

APPS: 184, GLS: 92, ASSTS: 33, MoM: 17, AvR: 7.19

Targets for 2031/32

Within 10 points of a playoff place. FAILURE - just. 12 points away. One win would have swung it.

Two new signings in key player roster. FAILURE - none. But I do have faith that I've signed a few players who will be there soon.

Get £300,000 a year off the wage bill in cash sales. SUCCESS - Mickey Naylor £125,000, Jordan Beardsley £160,000, Matt Mahon £88,000, and then Arredondo and Gerster on top of that (the cash sales in themselves netted £1m there). £425k/yr added to wage budget with new signings but even with the single cash purchase, that's only 1/3 of the cash brought in with sales, let alone those savings in wages.

Targets for 2032/33 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Within 5 points of the playoffs.

Two new signings in key player roster.

Get Smith signed onto a long term deal.

Whitehawk | Season 2032/33 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 19th)

Table | | Squad | Finances | Transfers

The season started with the opening of the Tsakiridis Arena. A great moment for all concerned. But I'm hoping it'll be the first of several stadium moves in this planned long-term save (I'm talking centuries, not decades here people!). But overall, this season was not really one of progress at all. Losing my key player half-way through the season wasn't ideal but really, we should be doing better than we did. Maybe our best-ever FA Cup run was a distraction through March in particular, but the fact is that the only win we got between 12th February and 18th April, by which time it was impossible to do more than equal last season's points tally, was at home to (of all people) Newcastle. Great win though that was, it wasn't enough, and eventually I fell six points short of last year. Really disappointed: only my third backwards step and my first for nine years. My biggest for sixteen. And the problem is I'm concerned about how to move this forward now. We have cash, but I'm finding it harder and harder to find players to improve this team.

Cup Runs. Great run this year and I even took the lead against Middlesbrough. Would have loved a Wembley semi-final! But Middlesbrough actually went on to win the FA Cup, beating Sp**s in the Final - so that was worth it!

Key Players

Petter Roisland - Versatile and goal-scoring. He is my Frank Lampard!

Nathaniel Judge - unbelievable that he's continued to keep up his level. 694 senior appearances now.

Jim McCrink - not as good as he has been but he's still only 24 and can improve.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - I haven't been this excited about anyone since Smith. Only 18 but already a top top player.

Derek Callaghan* - Morandi's replacement is more than satisfactory.

Fraser Calder - how wrong was I? Leading assist maker despite his age, and now has the versatility to play in any of four positions in my formation.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - Powell and McCrink inducted. Close to getting rid of the anomaly, Michael Sant.

Key Records Broken

Highest Attendance (broken five times): 17,430 v Middlesbrough, FA Cup 6th Round, 5th March.

Highest Gate Receipts (broken five times): £525k v Middlesbrough, FA Cup 6th Round, 5th March.

Highest Average Attendance: 9,558, almost twice the previous record from the old ground!

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

ARTURO MORANDI

Had so many decent centre-backs and I knew I could get a fair sum for him so I let him go to Everton for a then-club-record £3m.

APPS: 83, GLS: 2, ASSTS: 2, MoM: 4, AvR: 7.21

JACK SMITH

Broke Morandi's record in January when I realised I couldn't keep hold of Smith. He just wouldn't even hear of negotiating a new deal.

APPS: 117, GLS: 45, ASSTS: 30, MoM: 12, AvR: 7.23

Targets for 2032/33

Within 5 points of the playoffs. FAILURE - 17. And only six above relegation.

Two new signings in key player roster. FAILURE - just one. And that, I suppose, is why we went backwards this year.

Get Smith signed onto a long term deal. FAILURE and I was forced to sell him. Still - it was enough money to keep us on a sound financial footing for several years.

Targets for 2033/34 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Erase the deficit from last year: 61 points.

Two new signings in key player roster.

Two players of Smith's calibre signed.

Whitehawk | Season 2033/34 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 17th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

At the start of the season, I managed to persuade the board to spend some cash upgrading the youth system. I want to get it up and running again before the Premiership so I get the occasional youngster through - who knows, one might be the next Jack Smith! But in the short term, the debt that remains from the stadium combined with that has and will continue to halt progress. I think, long term, it's worth it - but I had to sacrifice any realistic chance of promotion this year. I settled for buying some undervalued players who I knew I could sell on for profit within a year or two. It was a shame to have to make peace with a lack of progress in the season which contained my 1000th game, but there wasn't much I could do about it. But there was plenty my players could do: after an abysmal start, with just nine points from the first ten games, form massively picked up, and with the addition of a couple of players who really stretched my budgets, by the turn of the year we were just about in contention for a playoff place. However, a big spending spree plus very high wages meant that by that time, we were also £8m down on the season and in the red for the first time in nearly 3 years. It felt to me that this meant promotion was almost necessary: cost-cutting at the end of the season might make it even harder if we were still in the Championship.

We got close. Really close in the end: it was only the last three games when promotion was impossible that we dropped points and ended up as far as nine points behind sixth. And it was only the bad start to the season that cost us a place in the playoffs. It gives me hope, because I have managed to hold on to virtually all of this squad, and whilst we are in serious financial peril, all it would take is a slightly better season that leads to promotion and I would be OK.

I also brought in another Whitehawk legend in to coach. CFG is, oddly enough, a perfectly serviceable fitness coach despite not holding that job description.

Cup Runs. I could do with another big cup run, perhaps finally get to that Wembley semi-final that was so close last year.

Key Players

Wayne Burke - Finally, I have a decent DM!

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - At only 19 and with determination of 18, this guy can only get better.

Jean Amadou - Top scorer this season, chipped in with some assists too...

Matty Graham - An inspired mid-season signing, hoping he will score the goals to get us a playoff place next year.

Derek Callaghan* - Improving year on year, probably won us quite a few points himself.

Curtis Grimshaw - The most assists in the squad, should have been a regular from the start.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - no new inductees.

Key Records Broken

Highest League Position: 11th in the Championship

Most League Appearances (extended): 638 - Nathaniel Judge

Oldest Player: Nathaniel Judge - 36y49d v Colchester (A), 22nd April.

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

DAVID POWELL

Left last July after my season report. Generally, the bridesmaid rather than the bridge, but did a good job for us over a six-season stint.

APPS: 189, GLS: 78, ASSTS: 40, MoM: 13, AvR: 7.05

PATRICK LYNCH

Only really had one good season - the first in the Championship - but it was superb. 7,43 over 42 appearances.

APPS: 156, GLS: 21, ASSTS: 26, MoM: 9, AvR: 7.13

FRASER CALDER

Got better and better and his best season was in the Championship despite starting in the BSP but eventually he was just superceded by Championship-quality players.

APPS: 349, GLS: 44, ASSTS: 84, MoM: 18, AvR: 7.10

...and the biggest since Finney...

NATHANIEL JUDGE

The last of my BSS players. Amongst the first batch of regens at Millwall, moved to Thurrock and was rubbish, but became an absolute legend at Whitehawk. Started as a centre-back, later adapting to a right wing back and did well in both positions. Overtook Finney as the club's record appearance maker. What a player! And still performing so well this season that I was begging him to have one more year! Surely 19 "player of the match" awards in one season is some sort of record?!

APPS: 710, GLS: 16, ASSTS: 47, MoM: 85, AvR: 7.37

Targets for 2033/34

Erase the deficit from last year: 61 points. SUCCESS - and without 21 dropped points in the first 10 games, I think it's safe to say I should have been in the playoffs this year.

Two new signings in key player roster. SUCCESS - Burke and Graham.

Two players of Smith's calibre signed. FAILURE - an unrealistic target, on second thoughts. But I do have three players with 4.5* potential (one of whom has already hit it), and another four with 4* potential. I'm happy with the squad.

Targets for 2034/35 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Playoffs.

Top class right back.

Jettison at least £1m from wage budget (currently £5.75m)

Unfortunately my careless spending this season had an unfortunate side-effect: our youth facilities were meant to be getting an upgrade, but this was cancelled in May. In other news, Jack Smith has had a pretty awful season at Villa - just two goals in 23 games. I'm hoping in two years (when he is 23), I might be able to poach him back on a Bosman. Nathaniel Judge made it another Whitehawk legend to join the coaching staff after deciding to retire, whilst Fraser Calder, also just retired, becomes my first ever Under 18s manager after finally getting a youth crop this year. They won't be great, but they will need managing!

Google Cheat Engine 6.4 - it allows you to choose specific programs to run faster than everything else (presumably at the expense of the speed of everything else, but I've never noticed any difference). So everything in FM runs at 4 times the normal speed, which means no waiting ages for processing - and you just turn down the speeds during the game so that you can still tell what's going on!

Whitehawk | Season 2034/35 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 16th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

An odd season. The last eleven league games yielded 24 points and in any other year that would probably have seen us get into the playoffs. But we were so poor over Christmas (1 point in six games from 20th December to 3rd January), that it didn't and that was a real shame. But it was a year of change: big summer sales such as Negredo and Almond were joined by Jean Amadou in January. Promising young 'keeper Andy Brown came in at the opening of the summer window. He was joined by experienced striker Alan Smith to provide some back-up in the striker positions until I could find a longer term replacement but January saw the big signings: £40k for Agustin and £60k for Alou Diawara. They might turn out to be two of my biggest ever signings. Agustin took a while to get going but with 20 flair and 17 pace, he has the potential at just 23 to tear up defences in the Championship and the Premiership for years to come. One problem: Jimmy Lorentzon, who I was hoping would be my goalkeeper for 20 years, refused to sign a new contract despite continually saying he wanted to stay. Bizarre.

Cup Runs. Really good runs this year. Got home draws against two of the big boys: United in the C1C - which saw an absolutely packed Tsakiridis Arena for a largely toothless display. But the FA Cup was another matter. Fifth Round for the second time in our history, although that was mainly due to a couple of kind draws, no major upset here, and when I did finally draw a big boy, it was at home, which was irritating. We took the lead against Liverpool, and I was starting to dream - but by half-time we were 2-1 down. But with 2 minutes left on the clock, Agustin, my headline January acquisition, finally got his first goal for the club, and we got the chance to go to Anfield! Not that I thought we stood a chance, we drew United away in the 6th round, too - so if we could spring an upset, two lucrative games could be in the offing. Incidentally, that goal seemed to do something to Agustin - who scored a hat-trick against Peterborough eleven days later from AMC! In the replay at Anfield, we were 1-0 down at half-time despite having more shots on target than Liverpool. I knew another equaliser might make Liverpool's confidence bottom-out, so I told my players to keep at it and give it their all, and we were threatening at the edge of their box when Agustin was taken out, the ref didn't blow up, and we were caught napping at the back to concede again. I had no choice but to go for it. We did get another late goal, through Grimshaw, but this time, it wasn't enough. It had been a brave fight against the Scousers, but we were out. Whilst the possession stats are probably fairly key, the rest of the statistics were all in our favour.

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson and Kasper Rasmussen - I was getting frustrated with McCrink and Callaghan half-way through the season so these two came in and have formed an awesome partnership.

Derek Callaghan - because we sometimes played with 3 at the back, Callaghan and McCrink still got a fair few games even after that, and Callaghan did improve a lot.

Matty Graham* - he got the goals I hoped he would - the first to get 20 goals in the league since McCourt in 2027 and my highest scorer in a season overall since Carl Fenton-Goss got 31 in 2024. Other than that, no-one has got more than Graham's 28 this seaosn.

Dan Hewitt - has nearly left so many times, but really reminded me of his worth this season.

Agustin - he took a long time to get going but literally paid his wages for 18 months with a last-minute goal against Liverpool to give us the replay that netted a fair sum. Nine in 20 is not bad, and I think he will improve.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - developing really nicely, really exciting prospect.

JON ALMOND

Never really became a first team regular, although he played more and more with Judge fading away as he played the exact same positions. Managed to sell him for for £120k when I needed to raise funds for a signing I felt was important, which I still didn't have enough money to complete until January.

APPS: 220, GLS: 10, ASSTS: 11, MoM: 6, AvR: 7.12

JEAN AMADOU

Money was tight and he wasn't a first-team regular any more, so I couldn't resist a bid that is the second-highest transfer fee I've received at £2.5m. But there's no denying he did a good job for me.

APPS: 91, GLS: 38, ASSTS: 15, MoM: 6, AvR: 7.14

Targets for 2034/35

Playoffs. FAILED - our five game winning streak in February and March gave us that little glimmer of hope but a poor run during some tough games over the festive period (Reading, Everton, Birmingham, Plymouth, QPR and Newcastle) cost us too much to make up.

Top class right back. SEMI-SUCCESS - Gomez was left-back last year and shifting him over to right-back, combined with a rebirth from both Bassett and Lewis really plugged the gap and will do for now.

Jettison at least £1m from wage budget (currently £5.75m) FAILURE - during the period from September to January, my wages were down to about £4.8m - they rose again after January but unlike in previous seasons, all my highly paid players performed this year - although McCrink doesn't deserve to be (by £125k a year) my highest player and I'm looking to move him on now. My finances have improved in all sorts of other ways so actually the fact my wages have eventually gone up this year is fine - they're within reasonable limits.

Targets for 2035/36 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

70 points minimum.

Playoff place.

End the season in the black.

Whitehawk | Season 2035/36 | nPower Football League Championship (Predicted: 11th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

Although the second half of the season wasn't as good as my first crack at it (before my FM froze) when I secured a massive 52 points from the 23 games in the second half of the season, I still made it to the playoffs, although only by the skin of my teeth: a 3-1 defeat at 15th placed QPR on the last day looked to have left us in 7th, until Derby got two second half goals to beat Everton.

THE PLAYOFFS

Semi-Final, First Leg - Brighton at Tsakiridis Arena

Local rivals Brighton, who pipped us to automatic promotion the first time around, were first up. With the first quarter of an hour, returning striker Matty Graham had put us one up. I wanted the tie put to bed at our place, ideally, so I strove for more goals, but Brighton drew level and then took the lead just after the half-hour mark and I had to rethink. We had lots of shots and just after the hour mark, Graham restored parity and I had to get a couple more goals to feel confident. Petter Roisland grabbed a 3rd with twenty minutes left on the clock, but I couldn't open a two goal lead. 3-2 wasn't a bad result, however, and it meant avoiding defeat at the AMEX was all I needed to do.

Semi-Final, Second Leg - Brighton at AMEX Stadium

Within ten minutes we had the ball in the Brighton net but it was chalked off for offside. There wasn't another highlight in the first half. Although Matty Graham, inexplicably "looking very nervous" despite his first-leg hat-trick, was not playing well, everyone else was and we looked fairly comfortable. That worried me, with the knowledge that one Brighton goal ended our season. The players had to push on. Precisely on the hour mark, the problem got worse as Brighton took the lead. But 12 minutes later, Petter Roisland put us back ahead with a stunning goal from the edge of a crowded box. But with 3 minutes left, Brighton broke Whitehawk hearts with a headed goal from a corner. Extra time beckoned but we needed a goal. We didn't get it. But then I had a surprise - I had forgotten that away goals didn't count double in the playoffs, so we were five kicks from Wembley. Leikarnes...tick. Then Grant saved Brighton's first penalty. Never a good sign, that, when the opposition miss first. Graham had been dreadful all game but stepped up and I felt a bit better. 2-0. Brought back to 2-1. Superstar Agustin made it 3-1 and it was starting to feel like it was going our way. 3-2. And then it happened Georgiou stepped up and saw his penalty brilliantly saved. It was, effectively, sudden death. Grant couldn't get near Brighton's fifth penalty and Lewis stepped up with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He shouldered it, though, and the pressure was back on the Brighton kick-takers. McArdle. Goal. Would it be Callaghan to be cast as villain? After his many years' great service? No. 5-4. Then 5-5. I could barely watch. Diawara - he hadn't been brilliant this season. Come on! Yes! 6-5. But 6-6 followed. Then Dan Hewitt, the veteran, stepped up. I felt a horrible sense that this was his last kick for the club. It could have been - but he put it away. Once again they equalised. Tim Bradley, the right back I was looking for so hard....scored. Ntsoelengoe - great name. Great player!

WHITEHAWK GO TO WEMBLEY FOR A SIXTH TIME! Jimmy Grant pulls off a wonderful one-handed save.

Final - Aston Villa at Wembley

I literally put my suit on! I really did! This time I was prepared though - the first time around, Jack Smith was the architect of a Villa victory with a goal and a crucial tackle leading to a winner. But this time, I was determined to put one over on my former superstar. But on the half-hour mark, we gave away a penalty and Villa took the lead. But it wasn't a disaster - a few minutes later, Graham linked up with Agustin to equalise. In the dressing room I knew I was a goal and 45 minutes from the Premier League. Little happened in the second half until the final ten minutes when we laid siege on the Villa goal. By the end we had 18 shots and three CCCs. But we couldn't get the winner. Extra-time at Wembley. First half passed in seconds. Not a single highlight. But on 113, it was that man again! Agustin popped up out of nowhere on the near post from a cross and we were 8 minutes from the promised land. Did we make it?

Cup Runs. Annoying to lose to Forest when a date with Chelsea at Wembley beckoned. Would have been a big money-spinner. But I'll survive ;-)

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson* - an absolute giant at the back, almost a key tackle per game this season, hard to believe he's still only 20. The new Finney. I've had offers of over £10m, but I'm not selling when he's still so young.

Derek Callaghan - probably would have been moved on if we had got promoted, but did so well next to the Swede and will be a key part of the defence that should get us promoted next year.

Matty Graham - not as good as last year but still got 19 goals despite a long injury layoff.

Dan Hewitt - despite appearing so average, Tache is an amazing player. He played just 38 times, four from the bench, but made more than twice as many key passes (119) as anyone else, and had more assists (18) than anyone. Awesome. At 31, though, how much longer will he be so effective?

Agustin - the stats speak for themselves. 3 hat-tricks and 31 goals, as well as 9 assists. Fast turning into a club legend. 27 league goals gave him the golden boot. Disaster struck in June, however, as Stoke activated a release clause I hadn't realised he had and bought him for a cut-price £2m. Still - 2 years, 44 goals and sold for 50 times the price I paid for him isn't too bad.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - this guy will light up the Premiership if I can hold on to him. Championship Young Player of the Year.

Targets for 2035/36

End the season in the black. SUCCESS - in fact I made a large profit in the end.

Find a high potential striker.

Survive.

Cup Final.

My board have once again agreed to upgrade the youth facilities. The club is in a stronger financial position now, and this time it should go through. Would be nice to get some exciting youngsters through.

Whitehawk | Season 2036/37 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 20th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

I knew this season would be tough but within a couple of months I was thinking along the lines of "a year in the Premiership will give me the financial muscle to destroy the Championship". But then in December, I started to pick up some form with wins over Forest and Stoke and a draw against Spurs. This after 2 wins and 2 draws in the first sixteen games. The first three games of the new year yielded four points, and with a fairly high number of winnable games still to go, I started to dream. By the end of January we were out of the relegation zone for the first time. In February we got a draw at Lampard Arena (and no that isn't the new home of City or West Ham). Just one point in March made it difficult again, but with the last two games against Forest and Stoke, I knew I'd always have a chance. We did indeed win the Forest game (albeit by the skin of our teeth) and this was the table going into the last day. We were away to Stoke. Those two points in successive games against the two North London teams had turned out to be absolutely crucial in giving us a slight edge. Especially as I realised Southampton were at Henry Park - rather more of a daunting prospect than the Britannia (although Arsenal would disagree). By half-time I started to feel a little bit less anxious as Arsenal had taken the lead. They doubled it after 72 minutes and though we conceded with six minutes remaining, it didn't look likely that it would matter. We didn't get the goal that would have seen us stay up on points, but it didn't matter. Nothing changed at Henry Park and Whitehawk are STILL a Premier League team!

Cup Runs. We played Chelsea at Tsakiridis Arena immediately after our draw in the league away from home. It was a bit disappointing that we put up so little of a fight.

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson - ended up moving him to right back which cost him personally but did so much good for the team as Rasmussen (see below) was a lot better than Tim Bradley who had been our right back.

Derek Callaghan* - our rock at the back - probably not as good as Hermannsson for most of the season but his consistency saw us through.

Kasper Rasmussen - after a stellar start to the season, was unlucky to be moved to a position less natural to him but he did a job for us there, too - and the team was better for it.

Dan Hewitt - literally cannot believe he is in this list. He's been with me since the BSP and this was one of his best league seasons yet. Amazing.

Peter Hillman - signed in January, essentially as a long-term replacement for Hewitt. Did a good job in a few different positions and has a future for a few years at least.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - after a shaky start, he improved and made the step up eventually. Came 2nd in the goal of the season.

The team of the year

The historical best XI - Bassett becomes the first current player to be inducted for a long time. Still got an average AMC playing up top for this side....

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Paid: £15m for Pituca from Sunderland - beating just £1.5m for Jack Smith

Most Defeats in a Row: 6 - 24th August to 4th October

Highest Gate Receipts: £575k v Chelsea (FA Cup QF), 7th March

Highest League Position: 17th in Premier League

Highest Average Attendance: 14,853, smashing the 2035 high of 9,628

JIM McCRINK

Had been my highest earner for some years despite barely playing. Eventually I gave up trying to sell him and gave him a mutual termination fee of about half what I would have to have paid in the last year of his contract.

APPS: 275, GLS: 14, ASSTS: 5, MoM: 19, AvR: 7.23

MATTY GRAHAM

Only my 2nd £1m signing, the Welshman had one and a half superb seasons but faded in the promotion season as better players started to come through and six goals in the Premiership this season showed he wasn't worth an expensive new contract.

APPS: 131, GLS: 67, ASSTS: 34, MoM: 14, AvR: 7.22

Targets for 2036/37

Find a high potential striker. SUCCESS - he's played in midfield this season, but Juho Maenpaa could well be a long term solution up front, and Richter definitely has potential to be a star. Then I signed Pituca....I thought that, despite having overpaid, he would be a star. He disappointed. But he is still very young. My assistant rates those three as my highest potential trio in the squad. I'm sure one of them at least will really make it. Pituca spent the second half of the season at Braga and though he played very little, he scored four in four.

Survive. SUCCESS - despite burning the skin of my teeth.

Cup Final. FAILURE - although we did quite well, losing to Chelsea in the QF, I was a bit disappointed by the performance in that game though.

Targets for 2037/38 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

More than 40 points.

Striker with an AvRat of 7+ (Pituca's AvR on the Squad screen is his AvR from his loan spell, not with me).

Cup semi-final at least - I want my Wembley trip in a big comp!

Among my many many job offers this season were Sp**s! I just laughed and told them to watch out (I was six points behind them at that point). Also, although the youth facilities work was scrapped at the start of the season, the board spent yet another £1.2m to try again. Before, a waste of money, but now we have it to burn and I'm happy to know I might get a few gems through my academy at last. Surely this time it will be completed.

Whitehawk | Season 2037/38 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 20th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

No heartstopper this year. A final day defeat cost me three places and therefore a bit of cash, but otherwise, the last quarter of the season or so wasn't really particularly concerning because we were safe well before April. Still, three defeats to end the season wasn't ideal, even if two of them were away to Chelsea and Liverpool. My January transfer dealings were crucial - I was struggling with my goalkeepers to Schuster was important. Avalo and Casalnuovo managed seven goals, earning me six points in total between them because three were winning goals against Stoke (Casalnuovo), Watford and Norwich (both Avalo). I'm not convinced either is a long term option and after selling Agustin who was not cut out for the Premiership, I really do need to sort out my strikers as my £15m man, Pituca, has yet to live up to his price tag. He was my top scorer this year but didn't make double figures. That tells you a lot.

Cup Runs. Disappointing defeat to Sheffield United and I have no idea what happened at Hartlepool. I need some Cup success. Quickly.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. Currently, we're actually 13th in the country, which suggests that if anything we slightly underachieved this year. However, there are some players I'm hoping to get in over the summer who should push us to the next level.

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson - more of a fringe player this year but will probably nail down the right back position once and for all next year and he is still only 22.

Ralf Sanwald - his first proper season with me and he was superb, with 32 key tackles. My defence is Champions' League worthy.

Kasper Rasmussen* - has gone from fringe player to best player in the last two seasons, pushing Hermansson out to right back permanently. Second in the PFA YPOTY.

Petter Roisland - 53 key passes as Roisland establishes himself as a Premier League player a year late.

Peter Hillman - the former Liverpool player has been consistent for me. I wonder whether I will hold on to him though - he is 28 now and he's not setting the world alight despite a good season.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - stalled a bit since last year but still doing a good job.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - Leikarnes is inducted on the bench instead of Mickey Naylor

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £8,000,000 for Agustin, after buying him for £40k!

Highest Transfer Income: £12,250,000

Highest Transfer Spending: £34,500,000

Highest League Position: 15th in Premier League

Highest Average Attendance: 14,875

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

DEREK CALLAGHAN

Good though he was the previous year, when I got a bid of £4.5m for a 29-year-old, I couldn't turn it down. Quietly, he became one of my best defenders ever.

APPS: 204, GLS: 13, ASSTS: 3, MoM: 35, AvR: 7.54

AGUSTIN

Will always be remembered as the man who fired us to the Premier League. His 31 goals in 2035/36 was the catalyst, without a doubt. The only player so far to hit 30 goals in a season. But he just wasn't cutting it in the Premiership, with 13 goals in 51 games. Sold for precisely 200 times what I paid for him!!

APPS: 119, GLS: 53, ASSTS: 24, MoM: 10, AvR: 7.20

DAN HEWITT

Said goodbye to the last of my non-leaguers. And it's Porntache (credit Netflix's Orange is the New Black) who has gone. Seemed to get better with age - he was a crucial part of the team that got us promoted to the Premiership.

APPS: 372, GLS: 54, ASSTS: 87, MoM: 33, AvR: 7.22

Targets for 2037/38

More than 40 points. SUCCESS - 43 points.

Striker with an AvRat of 7+ FAILURE - this is the area I need to improve in. Pituca is getting better but too slowly.

Cup semi-final at least - I want my Wembley trip in a big comp! FAILURE - disappointing in the cups this year.

Targets for 2037/38 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Closer to Europa League places than relegation. This season we were 10 clear of relegation and 15 off Europa League so it's a good target.

One player to score 15+ goals.

Europa League qualification if possible. Through the cups ideally, but in the league would also be huge progress.

My youth facilities were upgraded and then immediately my board agreed to work on improving them again. So by November next year, I should be able to start producing some decent youngsters.

Whitehawk | Season 2038/39 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 18th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

This was a season of great performances and terrible ones. There was the wonderful win against Liverpool, holding City twice (we were 12 minutes from victory at the Etihad) as well as Newcastle, Chelsea and United at home, and the 7-3 win against local rivals Brighton, who got promoted last year. But then there was the 5-0 defeat at Henry Park, the same score at Old Trafford, 5-2 at Swansea and a repeat 5-0 drubbing by Arsenal back at Tsakiridis: yes, we lost 10-0 to Arsenal over the two games this year. But then the worst of the lot: 6-0 at home to Swansea. Who therefore beat us 11-2 over the season!

Cup Runs. The Palace game saw two disallowed Whitehawk goals and two very offside Palace goals. I feel hard done by.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. Eleventh now - up two places - so I'm hoping splashing a bit more cash this summer might help us catch up on the pitch.

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson* - re-established as the number one centre-back, and with his height (over 2m), he scores the odd goal here and there from corners.

Sebastian Olguin - a good signing, 54 key passes in 35 starts despite only 3 leading to assists: he's started well.

Kasper Rasmussen - finally paired with his fellow Scandi, the two have flourished.

Cafezinho - my record signing proved worth it straight away. 77 key passes and probably my most crucial player now.

Pituca - finally came to the party after a slow start. Won 3rd place in the goal of the season award and the most goals scored by a single player in a season for me for four years.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - played a slightly more defensive role this year and did it with distinction.

Emanuele Casalnuovo - 32 key passes as well as 13 goals, probably nailed down his place as Pituca's striker partner which was up for grabs in August.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - only Leikarnes and Bassett still adding to their tallies at the moment but Hermansson can't be far off.

Key Records Broken

Highest League Finish: 13th in Premier League

Highest Transfer Fee Paid: £18,500,000 for Cafezinho from Montpelier, 4th July

Highest Average Rating: 7.93: Pelle Hermansson in 44 appearances

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

KEVIN LEWIS

Sold for 30 times what I paid for him and he was never really a first-choice, although he did provide competition for Bassett which he didn't have at all after he left.

APPS: 117, GLS: 5, ASSTS: 7, MoM: 2, AvR: 7.11

WAYNE BURKE

Was desperately trying to scrape together enough cash for one last signing in January (which never materialised, so I was happy to see him go to Huddersfield for £700k.

APPS: 145, GLS: 0, ASSTS: 5, MoM: 0, AvR: 7.14

ALOU DIAWARA

Similarly in some ways. He was a first teamer but he was fading and getting £3.7m for him when he was pushing 30 wasn't bad at all.

APPS: 131, GLS: 5, ASSTS: 10, MoM: 0, AvR: 7.01

Targets for 2038/39

Closer to Europa League places than relegation. This season we were 10 clear of relegation and 15 off Europa League so it's a good target. FAILURE - although it was close (8-11 so a final day win would have swung it...)

One player to score 15+ goals. SUCCESS - in fact, two did. And they're both 21. Cause for serious optimism...

Europa League qualification if possible. Through the cups ideally, but in the league would also be huge progress. [/b]FAILURE[/b]

Targets for 2039/40 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Closer to Europa League places than relegation.

Strikers to score 50 goals between them (37 this year).

Top half finish.

My youth facilities were upgraded for a second time in two years in November, meaning that I was hoping for a decent crop of youngsters...but no. Not a single player of even 1* potential!

Whitehawk | Season 2039/40 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 16th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

A fantastic April where we won four out of five saved our season from being a major disappointment. I was never particularly worried about relegation, but I wanted to keep moving forward and secure more points than last year. I got to the last game of the season just one point behind that mark, but that one game was against Man City. Admittedly this was a Man City who had only won 14 games all season and were in danger of not getting any European football at all next year, but still...

On the day, we managed to get a 0-0 draw, meaning that whilst this season is not a step forward, it isn't a step back either.

Cup Runs. Lost to two big London sides away from home in the cups, and to keep two clean sheets against Chelsea was impressive.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. Some big spending over last summer saw us slip to twelfth - I think in order to start moving up again, we're going to need to get some European cash!

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson* - no goals this year and I'd like to see more but 12 PoM awards and a top season from the big Swede.

Kasper Rasmussen - almost as good as Pelle - he's stepped up with some goals too.

Fabrice Adam - improving every year, and has now become a really key player in the side with his 84% passing ratio.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - only Leikarnes and Bassett still adding to their tallies at the moment but Hermansson can't be far off.

Key Records Broken

None (is this a first?!)

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

None of any note.

Targets for 2039/40

Closer to Europa League places than relegation. FAILED - 13 away, and 9 points from relegation.

Strikers to score 50 goals between them (37 this year). FAILED - only 36, but I did change my formation to a 1-striker, 2-AM one, and this seems to have improved the side.

Top half finish. FAILED - probably a bit ambitious.

Targets for 2040/41 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Make a profit in the transfer market and pick up at least 2 new players with 4.5* potential or more.

Closer to Europa League places than relegation.

Pituca to beat his PB and get 25 goals in all competitions.

Whitehawk | Season 2040/41 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 16th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

This season started well. Then at the start of December, this happened. It was the first time we had beaten United in our entire history. I felt then that this season could be quite special. Victory over Liverpool and a point at Lampard Arena followed soon after, and suddenly we went into the New Year chasing a Champions' League place. By the end of January we already had our highest Premiership points tally. In the end, we fell away a little at the end of the season but getting Europa League football this year was beyond my wildest dreams. I'm thrilled. And by the way

. Without doubt my best season of this game: a huge step forward. And despite feeling a little flatter than I might have had this happened in different circumstances, WHITEHAWK ARE IN EUROPE!!! $£$£$£$£!!!! Please also note the team finishing 20th...just shows what happens when you get a bit big for your boots!

Cup Runs. Disappointing defeat to Norwich (who are NOT a London team) in the C1C, but an expected defeat at Arsenal. We're still not a big club. Yet.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. I said last year we'd need some European cash to start moving up this list again: mission accomplished! Eighth in this now, and whilst we're a fair bit behind the top five, I think with Europa League football this year, we should be sixth by the end of the season which means we ought to be getting European football every year. If we can sneak into the Champions' League once or twice...

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson - really is hard to believe he is still only 25. What a player he is.

Kasper Rasmussen* - has finally taken over his countryman to become our best player. What a season.

Hans Jorgen Leikarnes - had his best ever season, but look out for some bad news below....

Javier Piccoli - massive strides this year and should be my key player for the next decade or more.

Emanuele Casalnuovo - did the business when it was needed this year, one of the most important players in my side.

Nicolas Avalo - formed such an awesome partnership with Casalnuovo that Pituca's time on the pitch was severely limited. Both of them had points/game ratios of 1.64 - more than anyone else in the side for a decent amount of time.

Sebastian Olguin - the last of my trio of Awesome Argies (and I have another three up and coming, ready to be stars in this decade), and Olguin one of those who is improving every single year. There's a decent chance half of the Argentinian side will be playing for Whitehawk in a few years! Especially as I'm signing another in July!

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year

The historical best XI - Hermannsson pushes the man for whom my stadium is named onto the bench, here! Quite a few changes.

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £27,500,000 for Cafezinho from Valencia, 13th July. Cafezinho is my record transfer both in and out, now.

Highest Transfer Income: £52,000,000

Highest Transfer Spending: £50,000,000

Highest Gate Receipts: £605,000 v Arsenal, FA Cup 4th Round, 26th January.

Highest League Finish: 6th in Premiership

Highest Average Attendance: 15,728

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

CAFEZINHO

Was such an exciting signing but for a record signing, he wasn't exactly the awe-inspiring purchase I'd hoped, so when Valencia and Man City came in, I decided to sell. But I decided to take a little less to ensure he went abroad, so had to settle for just £9m profit on the player.

APPS: 74, GLS: 13, ASSTS: 16, MoM: 5, AvR: 7.27

TIM BRADLEY

Loyal servant and, including a loan fee from Sheffield Wednesday a year ago, I earned 25 times what I paid for him in transfer fees. Not bad.

APPS: 154, GLS: 4, ASSTS: 12, MoM: 3, AvR: 7.06

HANS JORGEN LEIKARNES

Not one I wanted to lose - but I dropped the ball and he agreed a move to Leverkusen on a Bosman on January 1st. Really disappointed since he had the potential to be a real Whitehawk great.

APPS: 326, GLS: 23, ASSTS: 70, MoM: 21, AvR: 7.29

FABRICE ADAM

Not only did I not want to sell Adam, I wasn't even aware it was happening until he had gone. I never got a message about a bid! Very frustrating indeed. And he left right at the end of the window before I had any real chance to replace him, at a time when he was becoming world-class.

APPS: 101, GLS: 2, ASSTS: 8, MoM: 8, AvR: 7.33

WAYNE BASSETT

Kinda thought that he would be moving in the summer but it turned out Turkey's deadline day is later so he left in February. Annoying.

APPS: 296, GLS: 13, ASSTS: 23, MoM: 3, AvR: 7.04

PETTER ROISLAND

One of my longest serving players remaining in terms of years, but he has been a bit-part player for a few years, to be honest. Released.

APPS: 244, GLS: 40, ASSTS: 38, MoM: 9, AvR: 7.13

Targets for 2040/41

Make a profit in the transfer market and pick up at least 2 new players with 4.5* potential or more. SUCCESS - I didn't make a profit, but I got a cash injection from my board so I didn't need to and it was only a £3m loss. I got a whole load of really high potential players in: I have 10 players with 4.5* potential or higher now.

Closer to Europa League places than relegation. EXCEEDED - we actually GOT a Europa League place!

Pituca to beat his PB and get 25 goals in all competitions. GLORIOUS FAILURE - he actually lost his place - Avalo and Casalnuovo have put his future at the club in doubt, to be honest.

Targets for 2041/42 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Sign at least one player who is first-team quality by the end of the season.

Qualify for the Europa League again.

Qualify for the Champions' League if possible.

Whitehawk | Season 2041/42 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 7th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

After a difficult start to the season, the man on his second stint at the club came to the fore. Jack Smith moved up front next to Pituca after every other striker had underwhelmed. He got six goals in December including a four minute brace against Liverpool that turned around a 1-0 deficit within the first ten minutes of the game! I had been doubting the sanity of resigning him from Villa for an inflated price and his first season back had been underwhelming too. But now, he was starting to fulfil his massive potential. He should have completed a hat-trick in the second half but the brace ended up being enough for three points. It was a golden period in the season which looked to be propelling us towards a Europa League spot again. However, in the new year, we went on a horror run including a 4-0 defeat at rock-bottom Bolton and ended up getting just 7 points from 12 games from mid-January through to early-April. Although we were never really threatened with relegation, it was a big step backwards in our debut season in Europe. In the end, it was our second-worst season in the Premiership.

Cup Runs. Our first Europa League outing ended in disappointment, after losing our first three group games. We nearly turned it around, and had we beaten Fenerbahce in the final game we would have qualified for the knockout stages. A disappointing defeat to Championship Hull in the FA Cup although we were unlucky to lose on penalties to Everton in the C1C. I'm well overdue a decent cup run, I think. Never been to Wembley in a major competition to date.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. We've dropped away a little bit but this still shows we underachieved this year.

Key Players

Pelle Hermansson - still doing his thing.

Kasper Rasmussen* - fell away a bit this year but still a superb player.

Pituca - 20 goals for just the second time in his career - which persuaded me that £23m was enough to let him leave for Henry Arena in the summer.

Jack Smith - major improvement this season to get into double figures. Played mainly in midfield but his run up front was impressive.

Jonatan Del Castillo - involved in 15 goals himself - a good player, whose passing is also excellent.

Sebastian Olguin - his passing is even better than Del Castillo's. Really made progress.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year. How someone who didn't score a single goal gets a berth up front is beyond me!

The historical best XI. Pituca inducted. Do not understand for one second why William Miller is in that side!

Key Records Broken

Highest Gate Receipts: £714,000 v Wisla, Europa League Playoff, 29th August

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

PITUCA

He was a big gamble when I signed him as he hadn't done very well at Sunderland. He did far better for me, and that is reflected in the profit I have made on his sale to Arsenal. But he also hasn't been prolific. Only three times has he scored ten league goals. Only twice has he hit 20 overall. He hasn't set the world alight. But I will have fond memories of him, and he did a job for us.

APPS: 198, GLS: 70, ASSTS: 34, MoM: 6, AvR: 6.99

Targets for 2041/42

Sign at least one player who is first-team quality by the end of the season. SUCCESS - Favano is back-up but good enough and has huge potential. Both Teti and French are upgrades on previous DMs and will give each other competition for the DM slot for years to come. Vinny Lovell has serious potential, as does Laurito - and they could easily play together in future. Forner was one for the distant future really, but he could very easily be a top top player for us.

Qualify for the Europa League again. FAILURE - but in the short term this really hasn't worked.

Qualify for the Champions' League if possible. FAILURE - we made seriously negative progress this year.

Targets for 2042/43 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

I intend to shake up the tactics a little bit in order to:

Qualify for the Europa League

Wembley trip

Qualify for the Champions' League

With no Europe this season, I've scheduled some away friendlies in most of the European mid-weeks, to raise some extra cash. Why haven't I thought of this before? Quarter of a million per game if you choose the top reputation sides available, on average. If it's only six times (i.e. the equivalent of a group stage), then what have you lost? £1.5m profit made with no real downside. I'll obviously rest most of the first team for those games anyway!

Whitehawk | Season 2042/43 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 14th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

This was the season my senior players really let me down. It was looking like we might push up towards a Europa place again when we were in decent form in January, but from January 10th to the end of the season we won only two games and avoided relegation on the last day by the skin of our teeth thanks to ManUre's 4-1 win over Sp**s! (Yes, T*****ham DID get relegated!!!!)

It's hard to explain why we've declined quite so much in the last two years - we got 59 points two years ago and here we are getting just 38, but I can't put my finger on why. But I do have a solution: young players with huge potential. I'm intending to start saving some serious cash with a series of big sales that I don't need to replace because I have youngsters who are good enough to keep me in the league. With that in mind, whilst obviously I'll be pushing to improve every year, I really don't mind if we hover in lower-mid-table for a while, because with higher potential players coming in, I'm hoping that in a few years, we will come good. I won't stick with it for too long, and I will supplement with big purchases when necessary, but the scouting hasn't worked out lately and some of the players I've paid big money for haven't really done the biz.

Cup Runs. North London did for me this year.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. We've gone backwards a bit due to some reckless spending on some flops lately.

Key Players

Kasper Rasmussen* - back to his imperious best. Is he now up there with the likes of Finney, Tsakiridis and Judge?

Jonatan Del Castillo - wasn't always a first choice. Would have been next year without a doubt but unfortunately Sunderland met his minimum release clause. Oops.

Sebastian Olguin - as you can see - I'm blessed in the MC positions - I need a bit more variety in the quality of my squad!

Hand was forced here - he had a year left on his contract and wasn't going to sign an extension. Shame, but I don't think he was a first team player for this season anyway.

SEBASTIAN OLGUIN

A difficult choice to make, but I felt that £14.25m was worth taking - although as I write this I'm starting to regret it because I've realised that his career trajectory was massively on the up - he had his best season this year.

Targets for 2042/43

Qualify for the Europa League FAILED miserably. It's quite sad.

Wembley trip FAILED, although both cup runs ended in North London - but it was North-East, rather than North-West!!!!

Qualify for the Champions' League FAILED

Targets for 2043/44 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Safe before the last day of the season.

At least two signings with 5* potential.

Make at least £20m profit in transfers.

This is one of my favorite career update threads. I'm loving your slow, methodical rise to the top. It's very refreshing to read a story that isn't back-to-back promotions all the way to the top followed by utter domination of everything.

Much appreciated. I never know if this is being read so keep the comments coming. As for the lack of back-to-back promotion - I assure you it's not through lack of trying!

Rasmussen has been an absolute legend. So was Hermannsson! But I've had so many awesome centre-backs. Finney, Tsakiridis, Judge..... I think Finney is still my favourite although he was usurped as the leading appearance maker and looked over when naming the new stadium. But what I can't work out is why my assistant, who has great JA, rates Kasper R as only 2.5*. He's been our best player for a long long time.

Whitehawk | Season 2043/44 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 15th)

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

In pre-season I made a big decision. I've decided to have a period of investment in youth. I intend to make serious gains in the transfer market through signing a lot of players with huge potential. They won't all work out but it should mean wages fall and transfer income rises a lot. I figured I wasn't making progress any other way so if I do this, it should mean that, if we can survive in the Premiership for another 3-5 years, we should have a really great side at the end of that when some of these high potential players start to fulfil that potential. I guess it's moneyball: and on that basis, I decided to offload Piccoli. He was one of my best players on paper but massively underperforming so when I got £29m for him, I was thrilled. But he left during one of the worst runs of my career. I had United first up in December. After that, I went on a run of games against Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton, Swansea, West Ham, Stoke, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Colchester and Everton before City away in early February. That run of games yielded WLDDLLDLWW and only 12 points from 30. A better run there could have seen us in the running for the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE let alone the Europa. In the end, despite a fantastic end to the season with 30 points from the last 16 games, it was mid-table we were chasing and nothing more. Still, it's progress: indeed, this was our second best points haul in the Premier League, and we were only three points behind Swansea who grabbed a Europa place (although it was through being runners-up to City in the C1C).

I've also cleared my debts and the club is in fantastic financial health. In other words, my policy of investing in youth is ALREADY paying off. A couple more years of this, and then I will start bringing in the occasional luxury player.

Cup Runs. In the C1C second round, it took five attempts to score a winning penalty. We were taking second, and FIVE times, my players had the chance to step up to take the winning penalty. Finally, after 14 penalties each, Favano scored the winning penalty and we had won 8-7. Our reward was Chelsea away!! Though we played well, I've still never won at Lampard Arena. A shocker against Stoke meant our FA Cup run was even more short-lived.

Estimated Values give a good estimation of where we are in the grand scheme of things. Reputation seems to take a while longer to catch up. We finished about where we would be expected to this year.

Key Players

Kasper Rasmussen* - what a player this guy is. I'm fairly sure he's now my best ever player.

Agustin Lopes - I think this guy was my signing of the season. Nailed down the DM position.

Agustin Markic - at the start of the season, I was unsure whether he or Marquinhos should be my first choice partner for Rasmussen. Markic is the man.

Simon Simpson - the Aussie was my leading assist provider, and second top scorer. Great season from the young lad.

Duarte Rego - the top scorer since 2039, and only the fourth player to hit 20 since 2036. Still only 22, I can see him scoring 30 a season for a while now.

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year.

The historical best XI.

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £29m for Javier Piccoli to Barcelona, 3rd January.

Highest Transfer Income: £77m although my transfer screen tells a different story...

Highest Average Attendance: 16,328

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

JAVIER PICCOLI

He was my best player on paper and only 23, but he wasn't really playing as well as I wanted him to and to get £29m for him was more than I thought I could get, so I was happy to see him go. I have players with the potential to be much better than him.

APPS: 173, GLS: 2, ASSTS: 14, MoM: 1, AvR: 7.10

Targets for 2043/44

Safe before the last day of the season. SUCCESS - 4 games to go.

At least two signings with 5* potential. SUCCESS - I'm taking it. Tanoh, Romanenko and Pirulito have all been 5* when they arrived. Plus 4.5* Lopes. They all lost half a star during January - is this because of an improvement in the rest of my team or just a re-assessment? I'm not sure. At that time I didn't have a single 5* potential player. By the time of the end of season screenshot,

Make at least £20m profit in transfers. SUCCESS - £36m, although in the finances that goes down to £23m. I'm getting some of it in monthly installments but I think I'm still getting some from previous deals too, so I don't know why the difference is so big.

Targets for 2044/45 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Europa League place.

Bring in players with more even potential than my current top players: the likes of Favier, Marquinhos, Rego, Grgic/Robert and Danesi.

Champions League place.

Whitehawk | Season 2044/45 | Barclays' Premier League (Predicted: 9th)

Agustin Lopes[/b] - what a player he is, I doubt we'll need a new DM for a long time.

Paul Zardes - missed the last month or so of the season and will miss the start of next due to a broken leg, but he had already scored 25 goals and ended up 2nd in the golden boot nonetheless.

Marquinhos - Markic wouldn't sign a new contract and is leaving: which means Marquinhos had the chance to cement his spot.

Simon Simpson - big strides forward from the Aussie this year.[/size]

(*= fans' player of the year)

The team of the year.

The historical best XI.

Key Records Broken

Highest Transfer Fee Received: £35,000,000 for Davide Danesi to Real Madrid (broken twice this season, £29m for Piccoli to Barcelona first).

Highest League Position: 4th in Premier League

Highest Average Attendance: 16,432

Valete (Or, key departures and their career stats)

DAVIDE DANESI

Good though he is, I have two left backs who aren't far behind him, and to get £35m for a full-back is ridiculous.

APPS: 131, GLS: 1, ASSTS: 8, MoM: 3, AvR: 7.01

AGUSTIN MARKIC

I tried to hold on to him, but I've found a far better replacement so it's not the end of the world although I would have liked a decent fee.

APPS: 101, GLS: 1, ASSTS: 5, MoM: 5, AvR: 7.31

Targets for 2044/45

Europa League place. EXCEEDED - nuff said.

Bring in players with more even potential than my current top players: the likes of Favier, Marquinhos, Rego, Grgic/Robert and Danesi. SUCCESS - The likes of Sosa, Clarke-Gleave and Manoel all have extremely high potential, so much that Rego and Grgic have dropped to just 4.5*. Lobo apparently has just as much but I'm not convinced. Several of my end-of-season signings have been 5*, meaning that of the top 5*s from last year, only Favier, Marquinhos and Robert are still 5*. I've also signed one player who is already 5* ability!

Champions League place. SUCCESS - this was almost a joke. I didn't think it was impossible but I never thought it likely!

Targets for 2045/46 - my top one will be a fairly attainable one, then one tougher one, and one "ideally" target.

Europa League Semi-Final after 3rd place CL Group finish.

Champions' League place again next year.

A Wembley final.

Why? My players were used to playing in those slots, other clubs obviously felt the same way, why shouldn't I replace the Europa League with friendlies?

Clubs don't do it in real life.

Nice turn around to get into the Champions League.
