I tried to seach for this but there is just too much info to look through...

If I tutor a player, do the tutor and tutoree need to speak the same language in FM10? It would make sense that they should be able to communicate for it to work but in previous versions it has often worked even without a common language...

What is the difference between a fitness coach and a normal coach. Guys I want for fitness coaching wont sign as a fitness coach, but I sign them as a normal coach and have them take fitness duties. What do I lose by doing this? Surely there would have to be something, otherwise what is the point of having specialised coaches?

As far as I know, they just want a higher salary when you take them as a coach, instead of a fitness coach. Same thing with GK coach, 1st team coach, youth coach... I might be wrong though.

I know in previous versions of FM, there were specific attributes coaches needed to gain 5*,6*,7* etc....but does anyone know the requirements in FM10 for 5* coaches in the different catagories?

Also, can anyone tell me, why at the start of my second season, has every member of my backroom staff started stating they want other jobs, and every club in the world approaching my staff??

Ive created 2 tactics using the "tactics creator" and both times it's set 3 manager shouts when i kick off, always the same 3 aswell (hassle opponents/get stuck in and pump ball into box)

How do i stop these shouts from appearing ? or are they default with the style of tactic ive created ?

Cheers.

When I started playing '10, I started making a number of tactics to choose from, like I used to in earlier versions (setting up Control, Balanced, you know...), which seemed easier with the Wizard. But then I realized I was supposed to switch strategies WITHIN the tactic. So my question is:

How am I supposed to, or rather, how do you guys sort your tactics? Should I just have one, where I've changed stuff like passing and pressing to fit my players and then just make changes in the strategies? Or do I need to create several tactics? I'm confused, which probably is a bit silly, but anyway...

I have never had this happen to me so this is just a guess.

Perhaps you have saved the tactics during a match with the shouts active.

During your next match remove the shouts and save the tactic again.

As far as i know the tactics wizard will never apply any shouts by default.

It seems to be a bug but it has only been reported once and it appeared to have solved itself after the user loaded another tactic and then reloaded the first one. The link is to the bug thread and SI offers some advice on possible solutions.

If the above doesn't help, you could submit a bug in the bugs forum.

I've been playing as the mighty Gers, switched to the EPL with 'the easily offended', tweaked the finances a wee bit. In my fantasy world of the Old Firm in the EPL Rangers were purchased by a rich suitar(if that is some kind of guitar I meant the other meaning that sounds like this word) - this person wiped the debt and gave some $$$ to spend. Anyhoo

If an orange is an orange, why isn't a banana a yellow?

I'm playing the demo as Real Madrid and sitting in 2nd place in La Liga and won group stage of Champions League. Could be doing better though. Lots of draws. Now both Kaka and Ronaldo state in consectutive notices that the discipline on the team needs to improve and they want to hold a meeting of players and coaches. How do I increase discipline? Where? What to do? And how to call a meeting? Totally confused by this. Help...

This comes with the attitude and personality of the players... and make sure that your TEAM CAPTAIN is the player with the HIGHEST INFLUENCE attribute in your team.

I'm after some brief tips on protecting a lead. I often find that I have a nice 2 goal lead at HT, but the amount of times I have thrown it away is mad..

I often switch to a counter attacking style with about 30 to go, and instruct the team to drop deeper and narrower. Thinking that by closing down the middle of the park they have to cross the ball and then out jump the bigger strikers. But they still manage to score in a variety of different ways. I set counter as I assume they are going to attack more to try and get a goal, therefore hitting them on the break makes sense? I don't really want to go completely defensive either.

Any suggestions would be great.

If anyone has any ideas how to lessen the oppositions goals at set pieces as well, that would also help out.. I seem to concede a lot that way too.

The shouts and tactical wizard originated from FML, SI's online game. In that game they have expanded it somewhat with styles of play. A style of play is basically several shouts used at the same time to create a style of play. One example being:

Compress Play - Compress play aims to compress the available space to restrict the ability of the opposition to

fashion goalscoring chances.

Shouts:

  • Play narrower
  • Push higher up
  • Hassle opponents

You could try that to try and keep hold of the lead.

It's been along time since i played FML and don't know if there are any additional ones but I've listed the one i know of in this thread in General discussion.

As for the defensive set pieces i only have one tip. If you have a big targetman that is good in the air set him to defend the first post. They seem to head away allot of corners.

One final thing, don't overlook team talks it can be the difference. http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=124078&highlight=teamtalks

Actually I'm new to FM2010.

In FM2010, how to train the player to play additional position?

Click on the player you want to start training a new position.

Select the training tab.

In the overview section in the upper left of the screen there is a line that says "new position".

Click the "not set" button for a drop down menu to appear.

select any position and the training will commence.

Are the player ratings the undeniable, objective truth about how a player played - or is there some level of interpretation allowed?

The reason I ask is due to a number of discrepancies between the match engine view of the game (or, rather, my interpretation of events) and the ratings dished out at half- and full-time.

The most obvious manifestation of this mismatching is a player, most often a defender, who makes a mistake during the game. I will accept the drop in rating for players who make mistakes, that's perfectly natural and part of football. The problem is in identifying the root cause of the mistake.

Concrete example: corner comes in to my 6-yard box and my keeper, who quite often comes to claim these, punches the ball. However, the ball goes about 4 yards to his right and lands at an opposing player's feet. He steadies himself and goes to slot home, but my keeper has recovered admirably and blocks the shot. Again, though, the ball isn't safe and is totally free in the box. My defender is slow to react compared to their other striker who, finally, scores. Result: my defender is blamed for the goal and his 7.x performance drops to 5.x. I don't honestly believe it was his fault, though, it was my keeper getting over zealous with coming to collect in the first place. My keeper finishes the half on 7.x and I have to try to maintain his performance, even though I want to tear a couple strips off him for his mistake. Similarly, I have to try to coax a performance out of a disheartened defender who hasn't done anything massively wrong but the ratings system believes has cost us a goal.

I have tried going against the ratings system but it just angers the players. It makes me question sometimes what else I can or can't rely on by watching the match.

If I set my striker's role to target man does this automatically mean I am playing with a target amn or does it just mean he is playing like a target man?

Similar question for midfielder, if I set their role to be advanced playmaker, will they be the playmaker for the team or do I still need to go to my tactics and set the player?

Yes.

On the tactics page click instructions and choose team instructions. There you will see who your primary playmaker and targetman is.

"Dwells on Ball" could mean a certain player is, so to speak, "in love with the ball", aka he doesn't pass it too often or too quickly, thus wasting some potentially dangerous situations (counters, through balls etc)

"Cut inside" means a wide player, especially a winger, tends to roam in a more central position, leaving his position uncovered and probably ending up in someone else's place.

Link to post

Dwells on ball is from my understanding just a tendency to hold up the ball. Cut inside is for wide players that have a tendency to move to the middle of the pitch. Cut inside is also a tactical instruction you can give to your players in advanced instructions. The role "Inside forward" has this by default so read that description if you still aren't sure.

Then it seems my coaches weare right.

The player with Dwells on Ball is Kevin Nolan which plays as an AMC and the player with Cuts Inside is Ryan Taylor which plays as a WingBack/Winger.

I need Kevin Nolan to be as supportive as possible so I need him to be able to pass the ball fast ... and I like my wingers to play as close to the touchline.

THanks for the answers.

Can anyone tell me the important part about defending a lead, I've tried everything, long passing, direct ... low mentality, putting in extra defenders and/or DMC's ... Every single match ... when I lead 1-0 or 2-0 I end up losing 1-2 or 2-3 ... It driving me nuts!

ps. I dont use Wizard or Modern tactics. I'm playing with Classic Mode which suddenly made everything SO much harder ... I win every match using the wizard and lose every match using Classic Mode :(

Noob question 1: I have no idea what benefits a player gets from being tutored/mentored, or who is suitable for the teaching role. Any pointers?

Noob question 2: I've got one player who is always complacent in matches even if I have a go at him, feels he was brought to the club under false pretences even though he's a starter in my eleven, and worst of all in the Assman's advice, can't seem to motivate himself to play for a inexperienced manager (me). What do I do with him?
