I think in general FM lacks of randomness.
For instance most of the football leagues (if not all of them) saw their number of clubs changing of the years, and as I love playing at FM for at least 5 years in every game, I think making things/rules changing could add even more interest to the game. The same could apply for foreigners rules (some leagues are talking about creating the 6+5 rule for instance), a wider or more restrictive Europe area, creation of a European super championship, putting back the Champions League to 2 group stages, renaming the Europa League, changing the countries tax rules (heard about the 75% tax that could be applied any time soon in France for what people declare above 1,000,000€ per annum?), ...

Apart from that I totally second for the youth academy, and to be honest I've been waiting to do so since the very first time I played at CM!

This. I seriously can't imagine FM13 without those features that adds more tactic flexibility...

completely agree with the ai management improvements

very often they spend big on players and don't use them

The ability for you to turn off the ass mans Team talk thoughts pre match and at half time . If i am doing the team talks i do not need him telling me 99 times out of 100 that we should do it for the fans .

Also at staff meetings we should be able to block the constant Player Y does not like the training schedule or Player X should be changed from key player to back up . And no i do not need telling I should hire X,Y or Z coach when i already have the full quota of staff i am allowed

We should also be able to shout from the sidelines to tell our team to time waste more instead of having to go to another screen to do it

Also we should be able to set starting tactics and save them to tell the team to get stuck in from the start every match . Its amazing how many times i have to tell my team that within the first 15 minutes of a match

To see all a players games played and goals under history not just their league appearances .

For the match engine my one big wish is that they sort out the stupid animation where a striker falls under a challenge and the game gives an offside decision instead , also the offside to be given when the ball is played not when the player offside reaches the ball 50 yds later

Remove the message from the bottom of the screen that the player booted the ball into row Z . Half the time the ball barely crosses the touchline

It would be great and would make the game more realistic if a manager camera is added. You will be able to see the game as you were in the bench, not as a fan in the stands like sideline and touchline...
A second suggestion is to add a manager rating in the end of the game in order to see how your performance was during the game.

Not sure if any of these have been mentioned, but
    a) goal keepers can be glitchy as anything sometimes, especially when a defender tackles the striker and he lets the ball roll is
    b) the feature in fm 2011 where on team report the AM gave you ideas for players for weak positions, i would really like that back, because especcially in long saves it can be hard to find good players
    c) the game should rely less on players with speed, ive found that the player can have every other attribute to me very average, but if the speed is high then they are world class
    d) regens, although they are a great idea, can be a bit over powered, there is a regen in my Afc Telford save, called McManus who plays for city, and is scoring 60 plus goals a season, he is completely unstoppable...
    e) the players need to have more common sense when it comes to things like penalties, far too many times i have saw my CB step up to take them when i have to listed taker, instead of my striker who has a PT attribute of 20, and blaze it over the bar ever time

I'd like to see interviews for jobs introduced. The process of applying and being offered the position just isn't realistic.

    Sorely lacking.
I quite like these ideas, could add a bit more variety to the game. Built-in "Challenge" modes, like in FMH, would also be interesting. Or maybe go the Civilization IV route of including a selection of the best fan-made patches/mods/challenges with each official patch.

Certainly at least some form of negotiation needed for job offers, with advance discussion of targets and expectations, priorities, etc.

I second splitting player ability into distinct physical/mental/technical categories. This would go a long way towards producing true variety among regens (currently, all regens put a huge chunk of their ability in physical attributes due to their heavy "CA cost" weighting meaning you never get technically gifted or highly intelligent players with modest physical attributes), fixing representation of older players (mental attributes should continue to increase after 30, not drop like physical attributes), fixing representation of younger players (again, since physical attributes take up so much CA and are all weighted as important for nearly all positions, most 16-20 year-olds have unrealistically low physical attributes to ensure they don't all develop into 20 Acceleration, 20 Pace, 20 Strength Olympians), and reducing the game's over-reliance on "PA inflation" to ensure a decent population of regens.

    Other ideas:

    1) Bring AI managers over to the tactics creator system and base their transfer targets and squad selection decisions on the "important attributes" of the roles they use rather than just CA/PA in general.
    2) Fix the defensive behaviour of AML/AMR so 433 and 4231 formations work as intended.
    3) Fix the defensive behaviour of centrebacks in formations that use 3 defenders so they provider more cover on the flanks.
    4) Fix the defensive behaviour of wingbacks in 531-type formations so they don't simply act like fullbacks who make lots of forward runs.
    5) Fix the movement and positioning of single-striker/AMC combos so they don't just stand right on top of another most of the time.
    6) Fix the reputation system so good players don't spend months out of contract and promising younger players are more willing to go on loan to smaller clubs.
    7) Make club boardrooms more likely to hire SUCCESSFUL foreign managers rather than allowing Mick McCarthy and Owen Coyle to fail their way into the top 4.
    8) Make club boardrooms more likely to hire managers who fit the club's tactical identity (represented by the club's tactical preference).
    9) Make retired players more likely to adopt the tactics and coaching style of favoured staff when they become staff (your own retiring players could even copy your formation and philosophy).
    10) Make AI managers pay attention to homegrown rules.
    11) Make AI managers more likely to give playing time to high-PA youngsters and more likely to reward good performances with more playing time.
    12) Use "personality archetypes" for regens to prevent illogical hidden attributes (high pressure-handling/low-important matches, high-professionalism/low-consistency).
    13) Use a bell curve for distributing non or low-weighted attributes during player creation. Among regens, there are too many extremes and not enough normal, balanced personalities.
    14) Make regens playing certain positions more likely to receive high ratings in certain non or low-weighted attributes. For example, DMCs should have a higher likelihood of high Aggression and Bravery.
    15) Decrease the importance of Professionalism in player development. Later in the game, there are very few high-quality regens with problematic personalities as Professionalism is such an important aspect of meeting your potential. It should be a key component, but there still needs to be room for players like Tevez and Balotelli to come into the game.
    16) Hire someone to do a thorough analysis of tactics used by managers in non-British leagues and clean up that area of the database. In FM12, Juventus play a 4-2-4! That's unacceptable!

    Some fairly radical ideas:

    1) Change the position familiarity of system so players can operate in a wider variety of formations. For example, ML/MR should be able to play as AML/AMR and vice-versa. AML/AMR/DMC/AMC/WB/SW should be used solely for determining attribute weighting and modifying ME behaviors. They should not be considered wholly separate positions. This would also improve AI squad building and prevent certain managerial changes from having a disastrous effect as key players going from, for example, 433 to 442 wouldn't suddenly become useless as they lack "positional familiarity" in a closely related position.
    2) Eliminate redundant hidden attributes and replace them with averages based on other attributes. "Consistency" shouldn't be a separate attribute representing some magical, unexplained quality but simply another consequence of professionalism and determination. "Important Matches" can be represented by pressure-handling and professionalism. This would be another fix for the high number of illogical "personalities" among regens.
    3) Replace Potential Ability with a "development rate" attribute that makes some players improve more than others. This would make a player's potential less an arbitrary limit and more a reflection of how much they benefit from training. This is discussed in more detail in this thread.

And some fairly pointless ideas that I would like to see:

    1) Manager avatars in the 3d match engine complete with customizable appearance and animation sets (i.e., you can have a more stoic avatar who just sits and watches or a very excitable avatar who runs around yelling all the time)!
    2) Trophy ceremonies in the 3d match engine!
    3) Facial hair for regens!
    4) More distinct facial characteristics among regens in general (currently, they're all just too pretty and symmetric, we need Ribery-type regens) and more skin tones for regens of African descent

And reduction in the frequency of dead-ball specialist centre-backs would be nice, too.

the cost of players is way to unrealistic. In 2012 to buy Mario Gotze £98 million is a bit much. wages need to be sorted also. Most players want stupid money. transfer budgets were strange to say the least in 2012.

iirc the Xbox version of CM3 never sold that well & as it's a console the hardware is focused towards graphics processing rather than cpu & ram which is counter to FM's main requirements.

Basically it'd be slightly better than the handheld version but a mere shadow of the PC version.

Randomly I would like to see Henri Lansbury with a postion of maybe awkward goalkeeper as he trains there in training as well as outfield. Also Wayne Rooney does occasional. Would like to see the players that do this in training have some sort of GK stat and postion rating.

If by 'pointless' you meant 'essential'! It would massively improve immersion so you don't feel you're a mysterious guiding spirit with an inbox. I'd also like to see in-match options for manager reactions. I want to be able to berate the fourth official, shout at the opposing manager, give the full back on my side of the touchline a rollicking, and sulk in the dugout.

They could even add manager-going-ballistic options as DLC. Unlike player animations, they wouldn't even need people to come in for mo-cap. Think of the profits, SI!

Oh god, it just occurred to me they could have you import your own mo-cap data for your manager avatar! Or you could hook up a Kinect and have the game replicate your reactions in real-time! The possibilities are endless.

Edit: Of course, you can also be sent to the stands/suspended for persistent misbehaviour. Players can react differently. Please, someone, make this happen!

Can't say I'd want to see any of that sort of thing, tbh. For me, it's needless bells and whistles. What I would like to see, in that vein, is a) the option to send yourself (and players!) on a language course to help when moving to a foreign nation (or just when dealing with lots of foreign players with a common language); and b) the option to pump some of your own money into the club - I realise this probably never happens IRL (and might actually have some sort of legal/tax issue) but it could be fun to, after years of success at big clubs, drop down to a lower league and pump a couple of million into the club on the proviso that it's used for transfer/investment/infrastructure/etc.

    Another very minor improvement:

Rather than naming newgens by randomly selecting names from the existing player database, have newgen names drawn from an organized list for each nationality with each first and last name having a frequency rating and, in some cases, an ethnicity prerequisite and even attribute prerequisites for nicknames. This would create a more realistic distribution of names, prevent the eventual existence of 500 different players named "Hulk" and prevent weird name allocations that don't make any sense (for example, blond single-nationality Norwegians named Kwame Mohammed Yang). Additionally, allow players to edit and expand the name lists with the database editor.

Yes, would definitely be an improvement. The naming as it stands isn't too bad, with bizarre combinations being uncommon until you're quite a few years in, but definitely a feature ripe for tweaking and improving, as you say.

A revamp of MLS contracts. Having to pay agents directly would land you in jail in the United States or Canada on bribery charges. Agents take a set rate, a percentage of what their client (the player) makes in wages. That way, they are negotiating the best deal for their client and, in turn, themselves. I always find it funny that I can lower player wages but raise the agent's a little and have a contract accepted without being arrested

i really love the idea of actually having a job interview for jobs, would make it feel so much more authentic to a football management game, some of the questions could be things like what sort of goals are you bringing etc

Default My FM13 suggestions (aka. what I miss in FM12)

    - Transfer fees
Although I generaly agree with player fees, there are some fees that are really ridiculous. In one of my games, totteham buy Park J.S. from Man Utd for arround 10M € and next season they are not willing to sell him for less than 120M €. You can find this really anoying if you manage high profile club, and can't get players like Mario Gotze or Modrič for les then 150M € eventhough they would be avalible in real life for less then a half of this value.

I propose some ratio between Ability/Rating and transfer value.

    -Contract negotiation
I know some players can be really attached to their club and wouldn't want to leave their clubs, but they would also listen to your offer and not just refuse you without even entering negotiation.
Example: Even if a player is really attached to their club he would surley agree to go to another club if you 4x of his current contract, and offer big bonuses.

    - Loan repayment

If you are managing a club, and don't plan to spend wage/transfer budget, you could be able to talk to the board and tell them to pay off debt rather than have transfer budget you don't need.

    - Transfer budget:
Limit number of 12,18,24,36,48 monthly installments and/or deduct them from next years transfer budget. Because now you could buy 300M € worth of players with 25M € budget.

    -Taking vacation
Something is got to change about taking vacation. Every summer i take vacation on FM at least 2-3 staff members sign with another club, which is really anoying and make vacation useless.

    Not so important:
    - Personal contract negotiation

First of all, I know your contract is rather pointless aspect of the game, but it's there, so why not to try make the most of it...

Now it's just wage and lenght, but it could also include wage hikes for winning european competiton. Or buyout clause which other teams would have to pay to offer you a contract, before your current contract expires. This would give you your objective value to the team.

    -Retiring legends

Option to organize "farewell" matches for retiring long-serving club players, and invite other club legends to participate. And option to retire jersey number if you and/or fans think it would be appropriate.

I would like opinion from other players on my suggestions.

Sorry for my bad english and cheers

Installments are taken out of the next budget.

Retiring shirt numbers might be in but just rare. One problem is if you get 200 years in the future you could have lots of retired numbers.

I agree with all that except with retiring jersey.

I knew there's a reason for retiring a jersey but I had to look it up - the breakdown is below. The link is also at the bottom.

Retiring a jersey is reserved for someone who died while currently serving at the club. So it would have to be for a legend who had to retire because of an injury - so not to get backlash from FM fans for whatever reason.

Only Bobby Moore's jersey number was reserved, and only in Britain, due to great service to the club.

Players like Zola who was No. 25 at Chelsea has not been reissued - but that's at the managers discretion.

Internationally only Marc Vivien Foe and Diego Maradonna have not been reissued as numbers.

    It doesn't work right.

That's why in 2015 I have Sabadell in Champions League Semi Final.

Match Analysis Report: Should show where each player received the ball and from where and whom the pass was made.

Player Interactions: The players could ask to be played in different positions or using different instructions. Example: Hazard feels his talents are being wasted by not running with the ball and being told to hug the touchline too frequently.

Assistant Analysis: I would like to see more in this department. In addition to highlighting what a player isn't feeling comfortable with it should highlight instructions that simply aren't working. Example: Our wingers are cutting inside too often and congesting the penalty box. I really feel that SI could use the assistants feedback to help players understand the match engine better.

Tactics analysis: Expanded to highlight possible strengths and weaknesses beyond the goal and assist map. Examples: average no. of tackles, interception, through balls, crosses etc. made from each player position or role.

Football Manager is the best manager game but need to innovate, and today I see some things that could make a HUGE difference from others FM, like those below:

    1 - Match Engine:

Would be pretty real if we could see more NPC interactions, in example:

    - managers should integrate dugout with substitutes and physio/medical chief
    - manager shouting and gesturing to the players (based on shouts actions)
    - 4th referee showing extra time display and substitutions display
    - supporters waving flags or photo flashes
    - player impacts/collisions

    2 - User Interface

    - when creating a Manager, option to choose (or randomise) his personality and physical attributes like weight, height, skin colour, hair colour, if he would be wearing formal suit or sporting (this option is mandatory to apply more reality to the game in case we are able to see the manager interaction with players on-field, as I've mentioned before)
    - Board objectives like aiming to make money selling players or achieving trophies

    3 - Finances

    - UEFA Financial Fair Play system could be added to the game or something like it. It's very unreal if richest clubs never get bankruptcy even if you spend £100 millions in 48 monthly payments every year. In this case, club or manager should be penalised with demission and have lowered reputation.
    -

    4 - Career

    - the possibility to build your career from manager to Chairman or Football Director.
This should allow players to take charge of the bussiness of football, like modernizing the club, hunting new partners of sponsorships, interacting with managers suggesting players to buy or formations to addopt and all those thing that a Board member must do help club achieve its objectives.

    5 - Multiplayer / Online

    - Anti-cheat or hack.
It's kind impossible to detect if a savegame was modified by the server/host. There should be something that could alert players when data was tampered by someone using hacks like FMRTE.
Also, it's nonsense have password protection to a manager profile since you could access any profile just using "sportsinteractive" as master password.

You need to find a new clan if you're worried about other players in your online game cheating.

Why? Is it something so hard to be made? Even if you trust, there will always be doubts.
And a Anti-Cheat program or at least an ingame message should exist.
Once the network play option was available, the SI should have done an anti-hack system, similar to what happens with all multiplayer games.

A savegame converter, just an application that would take a save-game formatted from FM2012 and convert its format into one that could be read, and hence played, by FM2013. I think SI would sell more copies of each edition if people felt like they could carry on old saves.

the game need a better Training system.

the FM one, is just... so ridiculous..
even very very bad management games have a better training system than FM.
    what a shame.

£190k/w is certainly the figure all the papers and media are quoting for his current salary. I don't know about the loyalty bonus and fee but, in fairness, do you? Might seem outrageously high but do you actually know it's wrong?

I would like to change the approach to the game as a typical English manager with control over transfers etc. I would like to have several positions in the club you can take.

U16/U19/reserves coach: You just finished your footballing career and are making your first steps in coaching or are a very low reputation manager. You have been hired by a club to coach the U16/U19/reserves. You don't have any control over transfers or players going up or coming down from the first team (you could suggest youth players you have found). You do have full control over training to polish your rough diamonds. Separate goals are set by the board. League position, player development, etc. If you do your job right your reputation goes up and you can be hired for the first team of your club or another one.

Coach: In Belgium often the person in charge of training the team and selecting formations does not always have much control over transfers. This is done by the director of football. It would increase difficulty if you would have absolutely no power over the transfers or could only suggest: I would like a right winger with >16 pace, >15 acceleration and 12 crossing. If you set your requirements too high he would return empty handed as they all were too expensive. Or he can make suggestions for you to approve. When you have gained reputation with the board you could challenge the director of football in order to kick him out and combine the two jobs (as it is now), or they could fire you where you stand.

Director of Football: You do all transfers, scouting, sponsorship deals, organize youth camps, friendlies, merchandizing, etc. but you don't have any control over day to day running. This is done by a 'manager' you hire which you select on the basis of his preferred formation, style of play, training attributes etc. If you think he sucks and want to take over again you can fire him (costing the club money). If the board feel that your transfers and financial control has been rubbish they can fire you or if you have been great a bigger team could hire you.

Chairman: You have full control over the club. Who you hire/fire, build a stadium, training grounds, youth camps, organizing events, even provide a cash injection to your favorite team. You could be a chairman chosen by a thrust of supporters, be a business man in charge of a club with share holders who want to see financial profit, or just a bored Saudi sheik who wants to show to his buddies he can win the champions league with Oxford united because he has the money.

Including the excellent idea of an interview to try to get the job you want, I this could give a whole new dimension to the game adding a sort of roll playing idea and relieve some of the comments that the game gets boring after a while. The option of instant results is probably a good option if you are the director of football.

An extended overview of your stats Financial control, scouting ability (hired a good coach, player), patience, discipline, ... together with an extended description of what type of person you are (bargain chaser, youth player developer, sucker for discipline) would be great. An overview page with your career history including your overall reputation history would be a nice addition too.

Additional staff members would be nice as well. Psychologist for the Ballotelli's, Doctor, commercial manager, youth scout, ... This including more options to extend your clubs facilities with more specific things (school for youth players, a new fitness room, restaurant, hotel, medical center, stores in your stadium, etc.) This way you could reach a hand to the fans of simulation games.

This all without forgetting to improve the core of the game as there is the AI etc. I realize it requires a lot of coding so I wont expect it before FM 2014 but I think it is important to be innovative to keep players interested in buying the game each year.

Sports Interactive will reveal the next Football Manager in the fall which is said to contain a less conservative design than past iterations.

Assuming this is the de-facto suggestion thread, a few things I'd really like to see that I doubt have been mentioned:
    • Allowing the user to import and export custom views for the squad selection and other screens.
    • Expanding the 'Average Position' option in the analysis tab so the user can overlay the opposition's average position over their team's.
    • The ability to create a more detailed manager than we can at the moment (place of birth, more than one favoured club etc)

I don't see why it'd mean that, especially as they've said repeatedly that they aim to make it more simulation than arcadey. I'm presuming it means it means a bold change of some aspect of the game. Quite an intriguing statement actually.

I'd like it if there was some sort of interaction straight after a big sale, especially when the fans are annoyed. I just had to sell my best striker, a club icon, for £8.5m when he was rated at little over £3m. He had a year left on his contract and wouldn't sign a new one unless I offered him £32k a week. Normally I wouldn't think that's bad for a 30 goal a season striker, but he was in £1.4k and my max wage is £4.3k. He wouldn't budge on what he wanted so I cashed in instead of losing a goal machine for free. Fans went nuts though. Would love to be able to come out and say why, then I don't have to be reminded every month that my fans are annoyed that I sold him. Personally I thought it was a good deal considering I'm East Fife.

I'd like to see this one small improvement. In the "team policy" screen I want to be able to specify the coaching staff member that does the opposition instructions and also to specify the staff member that does team talks. At the moment it simply defaults to your assistant for these duties. Well my assistant is not the best option for either but I do have coaches who really excel at one or the other and that's who I want to take care of these things. Yes I know you can select manually right before the match but I'd like to simply set it once and move on.

Technically the thread should be called wishlish 2014. Anything suggested in here has zero time to be implemented or changed in the upcoming title.

    Picky, picky :P
And the thread started in February - 8 months might not be long enough to implement any of the major overhauls that have been suggested but time enough for some of the smaller changes, especially given how many tweaks and fine-tuning SI manage to make between demo and full-release, and between full-release and first patch. I have faith
Course, whether they actually think any of these suggestions are good ideas is another matter entirely xD

This is with regards to PA of late bloomers. IRL sometimes you get players who plays for a lesser team or second division and doesnt have much of a reputation. All of a sudden after being with a good club, or playing in Europe or gaining some experience they develop into world class players at the age of 25-26. For example: David Villa played in Segunda until 22-23. He only made his mark after 25-26. Some of the best clubs (Including Man Utd) are looking to sign Guillherme Siqueira of Granada, and Michu of Rayo Vallecano. Siqueira had such a fantastic season he was even named in the La Liga Best XI for 2011-12. Siqueira is 26, and before his recent success he played in Segunda and also Serie D. So his transformation is fantastic.

How does SI give PI for such players. In FM 2012 Siquera has a PA of 150, Michu has 136. Even Benat (Betis) who is being scouted by the likes of Inter and Valencia has a rating of 148. Now SI researchers probably wouldnt know much about the ability of these guys when the game was launched as they came into prominence after a good season.

Which brings me to the all important point. Is it possible to have variable PA's? This means a players PA may increase through good training, experience etc. Likewise a player with high PA, ability might drop due to injuries, disciplinary problems etc.

This could totally change the game for the better. Think about it, when a player becomes 2.5 or 3 star from 3.5 or 4 star, you are likely to sell him and get someone with better ability. But what if the stars of a 25-26 year increase. You do get late bloomers and developers of football. Unfortunately FM2012 doesnt address this.

Look fwd to some feedback on this

Really like stefjanssens85's suggestion. In Spain it is the Sporting Director who makes the decisions in the transfer market-sometimes working with head coach, sometimes without-depending on the reputation of the head coach.

So it will add a twist in the game if you have to battle with SD to sign players. But then again when you cant make bids, offer contracts it takes out a huge chunk of the game.

I would really like to see variable PA. I think it was briefly mentioned in an earlier post, but it's definitely true that average-seeming players can turn into superstars after just a single season, and that players with the world at their feet can end up going nowhere. Likewise, I'd like to see players sometimes turning out to be better suited to positions they're not familiar with, and quickly adapting to their new position. Gareth Bale is probably the most obvious case of this recently - a fairly promising but rather average young full-back who never looked comfortable defending and often made the wrong choice is then tried out as an out-and-out winger and over two seasons develops into arguably the best (or at least one of the best) wingers in the modern game, being chased by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. And who can forget that Alan Shearer and David Beckham both started their youth careers as goalkeepers?

Been able to request a upgrade to the corporate facilities.
I would like to see more roles for the STL & STR positions instead of just putting every striker as a inside forward something like a "wide poacher" etc.
Philosophy should play more of a important part in the game for example Barcelona & Ajax only hire managers that are known for there attacking football, there youth setups focus more on technique and creativity etc international football would be more interesting if certain national prefer different styles say if you dare play defensive football as the Brazilian national coach you will get criticized in the media more then you would say if you were the national coach of Italy. It would great if you could reshape a less prestigious nation view on football, by dominating the league or having a high level of success on the international stage.
Been asked to recommend managers to the board when leaving a club if you have had outstanding success at.

AI should use the TC and should be able to build a sensible squad around their primary tactic.

In TC, I'd like to tweak some settings and still have them react to shouts. Say, tweak passing two notches down, but still have it react to "Get ball forward" or "Retain possession" shouts. Also, custom player roles meaning creating own new presets.

I would definitely like to see clubs having more of a personality and culture than they do now.

Would also like there to be certain clubs capable of going beyond the usual 0-20 on certain parameters, such as Ajax and Barca when it comes to youth recruitment. Ajax and Man Utd both have a 20 for that and as impressive as Utd's youth policy is it's not even in the same league as Ajax's. Likewise, there are players who are simply far better at what they do than the next best player out there. Maybe a special "21" value that's a significant step up from 20, and that you can't achieve through training or investment but that a player/club might start with. This is particularly needed for youth setups because Ajax in the game produce the most pathetic youth candidates - I'm at 2018 in my current Ajax game and had maybe two players from my youth team who've progressed to the first team (not including youth players I've brought in myself), where the real-life Ajax tend to get 1 or 2 players a season who break through from their youth ranks into the first team.

I tell you what would be amazing to introduce, I dont know whether anyone has seen but Microsoft are bringing in a phone/tablet app that relates to the game your currently playing. i.e playing SKyrim you could have the world map open in front of you on your tablet, whilst playing the game on the TV. Now an FM tablet app im sure wouldnt be massively difficult (im not a programmer I have no idea) but would be very useful in game to have tactic screen on a seperate device in front of you, that way you could make tactical changes on the fly without ever leaving the ME.

That would be pretty neat. Or having it compatible with multiple-screens so you could have the match playing on one monitor, and the tactics screen on another.

Heck, while we're dreaming, let's hope for both!
I'd also like to see an official Android app that's a remote link. I know you can get remote desktop progs but it'd be awesome to have one that's just dedicated for FM2013

I love FM12 it's amazing, but as ever in all games, there is loads of room for improvements:
    1. One idea is to incorporate the iPhone/Android app to the Pc/Mac game, so you can play the same save of football manager on the go,although I understand it would be a hard undertaking in code.
    2. Don't you just hate it when you apply an instruction in a game whilst watching it, and it skips the gameplay despite of the position you are on the pitch, so that could be fixed.
    3. Changing the kits every year and designing them yourself.
    4. Take an even bigger role in financing and even choose sponsorships yourself, which could also appear on your kits and around the stadium.
5.You could possibly build your own stadium, seems cheesy, but you could really go into great depths with it,
    6. Furthermore press conferences are quite poor to say the least, after most of the season, you already know the types of questions that will appear, and the options you can choose get really repetitive over time, so a little more diversity could be good.

Although in reality these are minor things, but they could make the whole experience even more interactive and addictive, cant wait for FM 13 keep up the good work guys!

Some nice ideas fro The Hand of God. And one thing I think the players should be more clever like a real person. He can make his own decisions as to tactical aspects. Like mentality and his movement or try to roam around or get away from his marker. Or drop deeper or get forward. Especially those who possess high tactical and mental awarness. In a word they can change positively their own tactical instructions. Not negatively receiving commands from his manager like a robot.

One thing that desperately needs to be implemented is greater consistency in player reactions. Fine, players like Tevez are stroppy buggers who'll change their mind at whim and go from "I'm never playing for the club again!!" to "I'm completely happy here and loving live!" over the course of a tea break, but there's far too much of that sort of thing going around in the game.

Related example - Jermain Defoe, at Spurs, had slipped down the pecking order (as per real life ) and requested to be transferred so he could get first team football. Then, after a long-term injury to my 1st choice striker elevated him to a regular starting role, he asked to be taken off of the transfer list, and I obliged. Couple of months later he complains that I broke my promise to sell him, and asks to be transfer-listed!

I think that's starting to cross the line from Football Manager 2013 to Director of Football 2013 :P

FM13 through OnLive or similar platform would be my number 1 wish - processing speed would be cut down enormously thereby allowing larger databases, more leagues etc.

Hi. this might get a bit long winded its a bit of a confusing one to explain

for me there needs to be the addition of a "personal transfer centre" sort of a planner for transfers. basically so you can tie things into one to keep in budget, make sure youve not gone crazy making offers (im sure everyone does this). my overall aim is to give yourself a bigger picture of what the consequence's of in goings and outgoings may be.

it would incorporate your squad, your assistants views on the squad (not that you have to take his views) you will have areas of the team that are stronger than others, maybe sometimes this doesn't fit on how you want to play, take my team leeds united for example, over the last few years when grayson was manager we were known as a team that would score lots of goals, but let just as many in aswell. so you'd might want to change this. at the moment, especially if you only have the time to play a little bit every now and then for me it would be nice to refresh my mind on who ive bid for id also like this to take whatever its likely to cost off the budget. now if you have a tight budget and don't want to be going over it.. your going to have to sell so you can also from this take a few of your lesser players or even one of your regulars/top player if you think its going to benefit your team more and in turn it you would get a better idea of what you can and cant bring in. also youd be able to choose who are your 1st choices for players in the position you want to buy for and also what position you would prefer most of them players, so say i want a CD & CM i can afford 60% of the transfer and wages of these players, you can then choose players you would then like to offer to other clubs, to make funds available so i would have to sell player A, b ,c to get these two in or something along those lines. to me this would be perfect for championship and lower type games so you can plan what you are going to do. another example be.. if you take over a club who has had a manager like say neil warnock, the guy loves to have a few strikers he had loads at qpr and sheff united at times. but you play with one up top, your not going to need all these 6 strikers your going to want maybe 4 at the most so you have two who you can get rid of, you might not get full amount for these players but if you say it puts 75% of what you could get for them in a different section you have an idea of what you have to play with so with that 75% i could go out and look at a specific DM for my 3 in the middle.

i would also like a bit more interaction from the youth and reserve team managers (properly setting someone to this role in the contract would be better) then they are responsible for this, they could send you emails...

Youth team manager - (Youth Player) would benefit from reserve games/(Youth Player) would be able to step up to train with the 1st team but ease him into matches or hes ready to go straight in hes that talented and has a good head on him.

similar with reserves, getting a report from the reserve manager that (player) has been playing well recently showing a bit of form maybe include him. or the other way round you send to them (player) is a bit off form play him for 60 mins or ease (player) back in from injury over (number) of games.

the players also react to this depending on their attitude. i feel as if in the interaction asking someone to play in reserves is a bad thing. but if you could give more of a reason why they would maybe feel good about it.

    thanks

This has been mentioned a coupla times in this thread - definitely an addition we want to see! Would make so much more sense than having a random selection just resign and become unemployed, as currently happens.

Default Tip for FM2013 - Be coach for the U21-team (Clubteam)

    Hi!

Is it just me who would be able to coach the U21 team? Say in Manchester United or whatever, not just a national team.

I think it's a great idea for FM2013 to add that type of coaching. Is there anywhere i could mail someone responsible about this from the FM2013 crew?

    Cheers.

    Being Assistant Manager
This is a way to make FM different and difficult. I think starting as an assistant manager would be very interesting and more enjoyable. And when the manager go on holiday or etc. you can prove yourself to everyone..

    Managerial Abilities
When creating a new game, our managerial abilities can be identified by AI with some different scenarios. For example, a training match will start on second half, the score is 0-2 and our mission is getting the match by scoring 3 goals. or according to a scenario it's second leg of a draw, 0-0 is enough for qualifying and our mission is just securing 0-0.. etc..
after a few training matches like that, the AI can identify our abilities and teams can offer us contracts by looking our abilities.

sorry for my poor english i hope i explained what i want to say..

I'd like to see greater discussion of a player's role at the club to be brought into contract negotiations. For instance, if you're talking to a D/WB/M L player, they might specify that they prefer playing as a wide-midfielder or a wing-back rather than a full-back, or you might talk to a AMC/ST who prefers to play up front rather than in support. Depending on their versatility, you might have to offer a much better contract if you want to play them outside of their favoured position. This could also be a part of negotiations for your own players when offering contracts, such as "Boss, I'm not entirely comfortable playing as a defender, and I'd only be interested in signing a new contract with the club if you promise to play me in a more midfield role".

Related to that, I'd like to see the option to explain to players why you're not offering them the squad status they want in their contract - e.g. "Right now, I still see you as an understudy to [Player], but he's not getting any younger and I can see you getting a lot more first-team action next season". I'd also like to see more reasons for requesting a reduction in wage demands; currently it's only an option if the club is in dire financial straits, but it should also be an option for when the player's demands are just way above budget, or a ridiculous increase on their current wages, or totally over the top for the role they play at the club (such as youth players demanding £30kpw when they've not even made their first team debut).

Both of these types of interaction could be under a new category in private chats - "Contract", which would then incorporate termination of contract and requesting that they reduce their wage demands. And I think we should be able to have private chats with players for whom we've had a transfer bid accepted, rather than our negotiations being limited purely to the contract table.

Job Interviews! Example, Aston Villa. They had no manager, and they called Paul Lambert, Martinez and Ole Solskjær, everyone had a conversation with Randy Lerner about what the board expected, and what they would bring to the job. Villas-Boas got the spurs job because he seemed like the right man, After talking with the owners.

It could be like a press conference, but the questions are related to how much finances you believe is necessary, what approach you take in the transfer-market, if you want to bring any players from your last club, same with staff, and maybe you get a brief guide about the facilities and what the board expects, what they seek in the future.

This one's been mentioned several times, now. Which isn't a criticism! I think it's excellent as it shows how popular an idea it is
Contract negotiations and player/board/staff/press interactions all need a mass of improvements. Not total overhauls, just added feature, variety, and options to flesh out what is currently a good and essential but somewhat bare-bones part of the game.

Totally unrelated to the above, I'd like to see the game's journalists be slightly more on the ball. They frequently ask bizarre, redundant, or just plain nonsensical questions, e.g. asking me if I feel that the lack of a large transfer fee relieves the pressure on a player I've just signed for £35 million. Sure, I'm playing as Madrid, but even by their standards that has to count as a big-money signing!

I agree... and mostly with retiring jerseys for a player if he plays a long and an exceptional time in a club... also if I might add I would like to see a preferred kit numbers for new "regen" players

I cannot understand people asking for interviews to get manager jobs. You do realise how bad the press conferences and player interaction is? It's completely random. The interview would be the same, Pointless.

The interview is a more realistic to get a job than applying and just get offered a contract, and given the amount of money in the transfer budget. This way at least you as manager feel you've made an impression (or not) and given the board a decision to make, instead of just throwing contracts around. Hopefully it is nothing like the press-conferences, although the set-up could look the same, but you interact with few people, and they may not see eye-to-eye with you. You could also get some media-speculation if the media get the information that you're talking with other clubs.

Resting day: Now you have the option to rest one player, or the entire squad. How about resting only those who have played the match? I know fairly many managers rest the players that played the match for one day, but the remaining squad do not get that spare day. It's tiring resting 14 men after every game, so I feel it should be an option (either in team-policy) or after the game that says "Rest players who played in last match".

I'd also love a little more fan-interaction. We do have a supporters spokes person who comments on player performances, tranfers etc, but there should be more, through the media and on the stands. You all know how the supporters are. Two matches lost in a row and some start moaning about the manager (in top clubs). Media and fans should be more impulsive. Also I know a new trend is to ask the manager about a quick word in the half-time. "How do you see the match so far?" "Any substitutions in the half time?". You can send your assistent or another coach, just as you want.

In the match you get the assistent feedback about tactics, facts and statistics. I think you should be able to change as perhaps one of my coaches are better in giving feedback, while the assistent is just a motivating guy with no tactical insight.

Board meetings. You don't participate, but you're asked if there's something you want them to bring up during their monthly meeting. Instead of you having to come to them, you can put up suggestions like; Feeder clubs, improving facilities, staff increasing, youth setup, stadiums, financial improvements, potential transfer-dealing you'd want the money to buy etc. Then you get a mail on the afternoon about dis/agreements on your suggestions. The personalities of the board members should be decisive in the meetings. Going back to the first idea. I think you should be able to tell the board that you're interested in holding talks with another club. The board might say "Okay, as long as it's just talks" or "We don't like putting the job in a risk and we feel you either tell them "no" or cancel your terms with us". The board should also come with questions to the manager if he is interested in another job. "Do you see your future here?" "Are you looking to bring any of the staff?" "Are you looking to bring any of the players?". You can promise to not make any enquiries about the players (Rodgers made that promise to Swansea)

Just some ideas, up for discussion.

First off what i would like to see is in stead of Re-gens there should be some kind of youth academy.

The regens destroy the game for a lot of people after a few years you get de-tached with the new regens you have no personal attachment to them as you do with real players.

So what id like to see is bringing players up from the beginning you get your players play youth leagues and the more they win the more attribs you unlock and basically upgrade them. Also it would be nice to be able to create your own youth team from scratch how tall skin colour whatever.

Another thing that is super annoying is the set abilities for example if I have a player which is playing a great season for me his abilities should change for the better and not just be pre-determined .

Given that massively improved player/staff/etc interactions have been mentioned about a dozen times in this thread alone, I think it can be taken as given that the requests for job interviews are on the basis that the interactions have been improved. Kinda thought this went without saying, but there ya go
That's also kind of the point of suggestions for improvements... would be a seriously short thread if people went "Well I have an idea of something I'd like to see, but the existing programming it would rely on is flawed so I won't bother saying anything!"

More options with player resting, more and better interaction with fans, the media, and the board (TynesideManager - on the basis that interactions as a whole are improved first :P), would all be welcome improvements.

I personally have no problem with regens but I would definitely like to see youth academies implemented, and I know there's a lot of folks out there who would as well. Within that, I think names and ethnicities of regen youths in the academies should be tied not just to the nation but to the region/city the club is in - London clubs, for instance, are more likely to have players of African or Middle-Eastern descent than clubs in, say, the south-west of England, while clubs in the Midlands and West Yorkshire are more likely to have players of South Asian descent. Being the manager of Tottenham and having just one token black player in your season's youth intake is pretty unlikely!

Not sure about that level of control over your youth creation (choosing height, etc.), as this is not something a real manager would have any control of. Well, not without falling foul of employment discrimination laws! xD Though it would be excellent to have a say in the creation of youth academies in other countries, similar to feeder teams - "I think it would really help the quality of players coming into our youth team if we set up an international academy", and if the board agree then they come back to you a few weeks later with a suggestion of 3 or 4 countries/regions, or if you've been at the club long enough then they offer you the chance to pick one yourself. Leading on for that, the board could even agree to create a new club in another country, to act as a feeder team, much as Ajax did with Ajax Cape Town and Ajax Orlando (I'm sure other clubs have done it as well but that's the only example I know of), though obviously this would have to be a pretty hard thing to get and only possible if the club has already maxed out its domestic youth facilities and options.

I'm not sure what you mean. Player stats do improve over a season with the right training, so long as they haven't reached the limit of their potential.

If he is playing great for you why would you need his attributes to increase? There are hidden attributes that matter too and it is unrealistic to bump up a players attributes if they are playing well. Just like in real life if a player plays well, that is playing above what people would expect of him, it just means they are in good form and in a good place mentally. It doesn't mean they can suddenly pass and cross better than they did yesterday. And if your player has good PA he will progress faster over time as well, if he is playing well, has good morale and isn't exhausted, not to mention there are many players who have 1-2 maybe 3 seasons of outstanding football compared to the rest of their career prior and post.

I love it when I get a player who doesn't look much in the attribute department playing out of his skin on a fairly consistent basis. It lets you know he probably has some outstanding hidden attributes and is reliable.

An example is in fm11 I had Ljajic at Fiorentina and even though he was young and his attributes were consistently average, he outperformed everyone and made a habit scoring late goals for me. Lucky for me he made this kind of form his norm over the 5 seasons I was at La Viola

There's a certain special joy in finding an average player who runs rings around players who have much better stats

Got a re-gen striker in a new game in the Scottish Div 3 - 29, pretty mundane stats, assistant rated him as only being 2*, yet he scores every time he plays and he's got a better goal to game ration than my 4* first choice striker! Thankfully (sort of!) my first choice striker keeps getting injured, so they both get plenty of play time.

I always find that the match engine needs ballboys. It gets annoying when a player has to take the ball from the other side of the pitch just to restart the game with a goal kick. Am I not the only one with this concern?

    Sorely lacking.
Something I've been wanting for ages. The ability to 'export' a team from one save to play a game against some elses team.

    I'td be like FM Pokemon!

No, at least one other person has mentioned the desire for ballboys.
Er, I mean, the desire for ballboys being represented in the game >.>

Getting close to the time when SI usually make their first announcements about the new version!

So how about posting your favourite 3 suggestions from this thread so far?

    For me, it's:
    1) The Youth System - I love the new way it's being handled, and I'd very much like to see it expanded upon so that instead of just getting a dozen or so 16-17yo trialists each season there's a full set of U17, U15, U13, etc. teams so that you can watch the youngsters progress through the ranks until they get to a stage where you'd consider offering them a professional contract. I'd also like to see the backroom staff expanded for youth teams so that there's youth development managers and the like, as in real clubs, rather than just "Youth Coach", which is very much just a junior coaching position in FM. When you look at the phenomenal youth systems of clubs like Ajax in real life, they're severely under-represented in the game. I'd also like the player to be able to speak to the board about looking at specific countries for youth players, or even to have youth academies, independently of affiliated clubs, so that you're not just having to rely on affiliates to get youth players from other nations coming through the ranks. You could maybe have scouts divided between Senior and Youth, with Youth Scouts touring schools and youth teams in regions and recommending players for the various levels of the club's youth system.

    2) Player Interaction - Interactions in general need a serious overhaul, but players are the ones we interact with the most often. I also feel there's quite a few obvious dialogue options that are missing. Such as when players ask for a new contract, there needs to be an option to say "I gave you a new contract 7 months ago! You need to wait a bit before you can be demanding another new contract!" (or something along those lines). When players complain about your team-talk, there's no option to say that you feel they deserved the kick up the backside you have them, you have to either back down or deny there's a problem. When players have concerns about a new signing playing in the same position, the only only "pacify" option is to say that they're still "first choice", which is ridiculous when it's a Back-up or Squad players; perhaps another option that's "Don't worry, they aren't pushing you down the pecking order" and "Don't worry, I plan to use them in a different position to you".

    3) Job/Contract Negotiation - Some form of "interview" with the board, in which you'd negotiate with them as to expectations as well as salary. Expectations to be more than just competitions that season - 5 year targets, financial targets, expectations as to youth and transfer policies. In the case of a new job, being more optimistic about expectations would give you a better chance of getting the job but would also make them much less patient if you fall short of your predictions. Also, rather than it just being based on reputation, the club would maybe "interview" several candidates and then factor in their interview performance with their reputation to pick a winning candidate, so you might not have the best rep out of the five managers going for the job, but if they like you from your interview discussion you could still get it.

I would love to try and convince players to come based on long term goals etc, rather then the reputation system.

That's a good point, it's not just boards that can be swayed by an ambitious manager, players will sometimes go to smaller but ambitious clubs. How often do we see a signing in the transfer window and think "Wow, how the heck did they persuade him to join them??"

REAL set piece editor. Would really appreciate. And lower league stadiums, with seats only on one side. And player's entrance on the stadiums. Much work ahead for SI.

few other bits of sillyness need stamping out.
former club favourates talking about your players and possible dangers.... when then manage another club in another league? they should be watching thier own.
and some funny injury ones where you player gets taken out by a red card foul, yet the injury report says stretching or jumping for the ball.
oh and players who are injured during the match, but continue with strains and other muscle injures you would bring them off for.
