The Rules:

  • Use only the latest official database.
  • Choose only England as the nation, and load down to Blue Square Bet N/S.
  • Use large database wherever possible, and make sure all 6 advanced options are ticked, this should give an approximate player count of 15,000.
  • Choose any one of the above clubs, the number in the bracket is the points multiplier you will receive for winning promotions and cups.
  • You can move between any of the 15 clubs at any time during the challenge, you can not manage any other club.
  • For points to be acknowledged, a screenshot must be sent along with a copy of the current game set up.
  • Sunday League Footballer as experience only.

Please try not to cheat, keep to the original database and if sacked by a club, continue with the game until you get a job with any of the other clubs.

Ways To play:

  • No restrictions at all, you can buy and loan any players at any time - crack on and see what you can do.
  • English only, apart from the players you start with, and the players that come through the youth ranks, you can only sign players that are English (x2 point multiplier).
  • Youth only, no loans or buying of players, you play the game with only the youths that come through (x 3 point multiplier).

Point Scoring:

Each of the 15 clubs have been given a ranking based on club reputation, fan base size and attraction of the area, these rankings are your first multiplier. For example if you choose Rotherham United, then whatever success you have will be multiplied by 10, then depending on how you play the game, you may receive another multiplier.

Example of points scoring:

I win the English npower League 2, get promotion via the play offs from the English npower League 1 and win the English Johnstone's Paint Trophy and win them all following the English only route - then I will recieve 80 points for the L2 win (80*10 = 800), a promotion is also classed as a win so, I get 100 points for the L1 promotion (100*10 = 1000) and then the cup win will net me (55*10 = 550). So that's 2,350 points for what I won, but there is also the double multiplier for following the English only route - so I would have a total of 4,700 points in total, all thes with one club - Rotherham.

Nice idea. As a Doncaster Rovers fan I should start with them, but I like a challenge. Also, If I got into the Prem in the first couple of season's, it would be a mammoth task to stay there with only Englishmen on a small budget.

Il be Harrogate.

I havent done one of these for ages. Is Photobucket best to upload etc?

Just for fun, I may also ONLY buy players that are born in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Il be starting out with the mighty Harrogate Town. I have spoken with chairman and fellow Doncastrian Irving Weaver over the phone (in real life) during my last job. It was at the time when he hired his son Simon as new manager. He must have real faith in my ability! ( :

I will make the challenge a little harder by only being allowed English players from Yorkshire and Humberside, to match the theme, unless their city/town of birth is unknown in which il take them as an English nomad.

Boardroom are expecting a Top half finish, with transfer budget set at

Il start with a balanced 4-4-2, and a back up controlled attacking 4-2-2-2, for when were on form and comfortable attacking a weaker side at home.

Have £3,500 to spend on players and £5,000 a week in wages, currently spending £4,430 in wages.

Thanks for having a blast mate, and also putting a spin on the transfer element, just as a head's up - you have started with automatic reputation. No worries though as we can have leaderboards for starting reps.

Looking forward to your next update mate.

Squad

I will be looking to sign just English players.

My current squad had 3 non English players within it. First teamer Kevin Gall (Wales) and reserve players Tomas Halvorsen (Norway) and Joey Spivack (USA).

I am expected to gain a respectable league position, 4th Quali. Round of the FA Cup and 1st Round of the FA Trophy.

Guys. Pablo Counago has just agreed to join my club. So call me a cheat, but he's one of my favourite players. Absolute goal machine and I cant pass up his talent. My rule is i am allowed a quota of one non-english player at any one time. The club have endorsed this to promote equal opportunities and not to appear to be discriminatory. ( :

Yorkshire & Humberside Challenge

Season 1, 2011/12- Harrogate Town

It was a terrible start to the life with Harrogate tbh. A few pre season games where we were clear favourites, were turned into nervy and uninspiring looking draws, due to conceding sloppy goals, plus trying to get my 17 new players to familiarise themselves with one another. This was largely due to my complete overhaul of a very very average squad, of which included a few decent journeymen, but on a far more generous wages than I was planning on paying them. Our first game vs Airbus, I felt we should be beating teams like that, friendly or not, but I suppose its difficult to gauge the difference in class between the Welsh Premier and the BSN. Perhaps they were better?? 2nd friendly against Macclesfield was a credible, but again, sloppy goals conceded were our downfall. Next up, a 4-0 slaughtering at the hands of Wycombe. The difference in class really showed, 1st half we looked ok, yet 2-0 down, 2nd half, we looked a joke. Further draws with feeder team, Harrogate Railway then FC United completed the teams summer warm ups.

1st game of the season saw us looking really good in spells, yet also like toddlers in some spells, against Boston Utd, away. The jeckyll and hyde nature of this and the run of games afterwards, all being down to a full re-vamp of the playing squad, all trying to find their rhythm and gel as a team. The positives were my striker force of Pablo Counago and Omar Kormoa look absolute world beaters, although due to injuries, its been a struggle keeping them up top together for a string of games. Other players shining include James Cronesberry and young midfielder Nicholas Barrett, whilst centre back Hassan Bacchus and right back Aaron Carter look like they could easily walk into any team in the division above.

Here's my sketchy form from the first pre-season game, then into our succession of 3 draws, before finding the winning formula for the first time, at home to Worcester. Most of the close looking games were actually dominated by us, raining shots at the oppositions goal and controlling possession, yet making silly positional errors you so often see when making wholesale changes to a squad before the league campaign.

Here are my results from a bit of a sticky period, into the good form we have found ourselves in just now, last game being a narrow but efficient 1-0 over league contenders Nuneaton.

<a href="http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa250/rocknrollpear/?action=view&current=fixturesandresults2.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa250/rocknrollpear/fixturesandresults2.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here is my summer transfer activity:

Here is the league table as it looks in November. Were sitting pretty in 2nd, a great start. Im more optimistic about us really taking a hold of this league as our team have now started to gel and look more of a unit at the back. Less errors, more wins and more points Is my prediction for this promising looking team.

I like R&RPears transfer idea, tempted by this as I always do a Grimsby save this time of year after I get bored of my custom database...

Good challenge, mate. I don't play quick enough to have a proper go. Interesting that doing the challenge with SUFC has only a multiplier of 1 whilst doing it with SWFC has a multiplier of 3. Based on reputation and club size? Ouch. The 'Massives' won't like that. And seeing as most of the people who are football fans are fans of the 'Massive' then you might have a problem getting many people to join!

That being said, the multiplier of 3 on 'Massive' Wednesday makes me half tempted to manage them. Getting them to win League 1 and the JPT is probably not too difficult. No more difficult that doing it with the Blades I suspect. However, I'd then have to avoid doing a Warnock and trying to take them down the league as far as I could!

It was the attraction that swung it mate - 'THE MASSIVE' arn't as big as they think they are.

The Blades have a bigger reputation after all....Up the Blades, Down the Pigs.

Until FM13 :(

You going to the pre-season friendly between t'Millers and t'Blades at NY Stadium?

Am going to have a go at your challenge, haven't decided who with yet. Huddersfield Town with a multiplier of 9 is interesting. I know they're marginally better than one of the other teams when it comes to taking penalties.
