jimbowmanuk Posted July 2, 2012 Share Posted July 2, 2012 The Magical Magyars I had a go with this on FM11 here is the Link [FM11] The Magnificent Magyars Updates on the career will follow a similar way Hungary were considered the greatest international team of the 1950's, going on a 4 year unbeaten run until they lost the 1954 World Cup final 3-2 to West Germany, a team they demolished 8-3 in the group stages only a few weeks before. An attack spearheaded by Ferenc Puskas made them a difficult team to defend against. However things of late have not been rosy for Hungary with them failing to qualify for a major tournament since 1986. I have been hired as the unanimous choice to bring back the glory days of old, where a team was feared the world over. The FA were pleased that I was competitive though, but they do want improvement otherwise I'll be replaced. So I now have a few friendlies before the Euro's Qualification to test out a more conservative tactic. It's quite tight though, you could very easily end up 1st or last. Do both 1st and 2nd placed go through to the Euros? (it's the first edition of the 24-team Euros). Last time was the 1986 World Cup I believe? Yeah there isn't much talent coming through either with no improvements to clubs facilities at all during this save, I also keep getting informed that only 57% of players in the league are Hungarian Nationals so that doesn't help. 1986 is correct I mention it in the opening blurb, was hoping I qualified for Euro 2016 to end 30 years of Hurt!! jimbowmanuk Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 2020 - Pre-Tournament Friendlies Malta 0-1 Hungary Created several chances but couldn't find the killer instinct in front of goal Hungary 1-0 Moldova Again the finishing was awful, our defence played well as Moldova didn't have a shot at goal Hungary 1-1 Macedonia Another hatful of chances but finishing again is woeful Hungary 4-0 Luxembourg Finally found that scoring feeling which had been missing in other games Manager's Thoughts for the tournament Well I'm not confident after the poor finishing in the friendlies, at best I can hope for a result against Russia, Germany will no doubt beat us and I hope to keep the scoreline respectable in our 1st game against France Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
jimbowmanuk Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 Euro 2020 - Belgium - Group Match 1 So our familiar foes France are up 1st in the Championships, and we start brightly trying to take the game to them, both teams are playing well but neither can break down the others defence to have any real chances in the 1st half Half-Time : Hungary 0-0 France Match Stats Hungary Player Stats The 2nd half started pretty much the same as the 1st with both teams trying to find a way through, as the Hungarian legs started to tire Mbiwa pounced on a chance for France on the 69th minute to put them in front, after that they seemed comfortable to keep possession as the game closed out. Full-Time: Hungary 0-1 France Match Stats Hungary Players Stats Current Group Table So defeat in the 1st game but a respectable performance, hopefully the next match against Russia will be more rewarding. jimbowmanuk Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 Euro 2020 - Belgium - Group Match 2 Russia is the next team on the agenda and we'll be looking for a victory in this match, the match started at a hectic pace and that quick speed enabled us to hit them on the break with Racz scoring an easy tap in, both teams went in the hunt for the next goal but as half time approached it wasn't coming Half-Time : Russia 0-1 Hungary Match Stats Hungary Player Stats The 2nd half was another of high paced play as Hungary went searching for the cushion goal while Russia searched for an equaliser but some great goalkeeping at both ends meant the score wouldn't change Full-Time: Russia 0-1 Hungary Match Stats Hungary Players Stats Current Group Table So the final game against Germany approaches and a draw may be enough to reach the second otherwise we could be coming home. jimbowmanuk Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 Euro 2020 - Belgium - Group Match 3 Germany who had all but qualified with 2 wins out of 2 were our final match where we were hoping to take something from the game, unfortunately they were far too strong for us and took the lead in the 16th minute, before doubling it on the 38th. Half-Time : Hungary 0-2 Germany Match Stats Hungary Player Stats We started the 2nd half with more vibrancy looking to take something from the game and were rewarded in the 68th minute to get ourselves back in the game, but with 10 minutes remaining out Keeper was off his line and a superb chip from 25 yards out restored the Germans 2 goal advantage Full-Time: Hungary 1-3 Germany Match Stats Hungary Players Stats Final Group Table Remarkably enough that win against Russia was enough to qualify us for the 2nd round where we will meet Holland. Quite lucky to get through with 3 points but definitely deserve it after beating Poland in the qualifiers (twice!) now Russia in the Euros! That's a very big break for hungarian football. jimbowmanuk Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share Posted July 11, 2012 Euro 2020 - Belgium - 2nd Round Holland were our opponents for the 2nd round match, and despite being the better team we couldn't find a way through so we finished the half goaless Half-Time : Holland 0-0 Hungary Match Stats Hungary Player Stats The 2nd half was going pretty much the same as the 1st until the Referee decided to show his 1st card of the match, a red one at that, in the 54th minute. This changed the whole complexion of the game and Holland started knocking at the door, and we rewarded soon after. A dodgy penalty was given against us but our keeper saved it to keep the tie alive, but no team could find anymore and so it finished with the one goal and Hungary were out Full-Time: Holland 1-0 Hungary Match Stats Hungary Players Stats So Hungary go out in the second round, I was very pleased with the way the team performed, and now we can concentrate on the World Cup Qualifiers.
