Season 1, testing the waters.

Premier Division - 6th

Fixtures

Positions Graph

Senior Challenge Cup - Semi-Final

League Cup - Winners

UEFA Europa League - First Qualifying Round

Premier Division: We were predicted to finish 4th but our form through out the season was up and down. We had some great wins against the likes of Sligo and Bohemians but Bohemians also embarrassed us by smashing us 6-1 at home. We only recorded 1 win against the top 3 in 12 games so it was no surprise we finished 6th but I felt we could of finished in 5th or 4th, for much of the season there wasn't a huge gap between 4th and 9th, but no one was in danger of relegation due to Galways dismal showing, losing 35 and drawing 1.

Senior Challenge Cup: It was going well until we managed to lose to First Division Finn Harps, who went on to beat Bray in the final so it wasn't that embarrassing, not really.

League Cup: Our saving grace this season, playing against lower division teams for the first 2 rounds and winning comfortably before beating Bray 1-0 in the semi-final and facing a good Derry team in the final, but they may as well of not turned up on the day, we showed we had the hunger to win and hammered them 6-1 which was a huge shock but felt great.

Europa League: Something we wont have next season because we finished 6th. We faced Olimpija Ljubljana of Slovenia, Darki Jankovic bagged a hat-trick for them in the first leg giving them 3 away goals and didnt give us much hope of qualifying for the next round, which we didn't after a 1-1 draw in the next leg.

Premier Division: Somehow we managed to win the league, we weren't exactly all that good over the season. We didn't strengthen our squad a whole lot, but I think all the other teams were weaker this season, going by newly promoted Cork's 3rd place finish. The second half of the season was very pleasing, after losing to Limerick at the start of July we didnt lose again for the rest of the season as we stormed home to a surprising title win and lifted our first title of the millennium.

Senior Challenge Cup: This was no good, but it was less games for us to play which helped us win the title.

League Cup: Same as the above, disappointed when we got knocked out but in the end it turned out to be a good thing.

Premier Division: It took us 7 games to get our first win of the season so that pretty much put us out of the challenge for the title at the early stages, so we were left fighting for a European spot. Our form didnt really pick up until well into the second half of the season as we went on an 11 match winning streak and then losing our final 3 games and finishing 6 points behind Dundalk, who grabbed the last European spot. But thankfully, Cork won the Senior Challenge Cup and because they already had European football, the spot went to the next team in the league which was us so we will be in the Europa League next season.

Senior Challenge Cup: A lot better than last year but it was very upsetting to lose out to another First Division side, who we really should be beating easily.

League Cup: Again it was better than last year but our hopes of winning it were dashed by a much stronger Cork City side who went onto hammer Derry 6-0 in the final.

UEFA Champions League: We had a tough draw in the Second Qualifying Round against Sherriff of Moldova, we managed to scrape through on away goals but we were very lucky. The Third Round draw was no luck for us either as we came up against BATE Borisov from Belarus, we gave ourselves a chance with a draw at home in the first leg but in the second leg we were outclassed and should of lost by more.

UEFA Europa League: Again we were given a tough draw, the opposition was Hertha Berlin this time and they beat us easily in the first leg but we managed to come away with a 3-2 win in the second leg which left me thinking why couldnt we do that in the first leg?

UEFA Europa League - Second Qualifying Round

Premier Division: This year was a total opposite to last year, we went the first 12 games undefeated and all together we only lost 4 games, all though the 5-1 loss to Sligo was embarrassing and let them back up close to us but we our name was always on the title. Highlight of the season was beating our rivals Shelbourne 6-1 and then defeating, another Dublin team, UCD, which was the first time we had a sold out stadium, to win our second league in three years.

Senior Challenge Cup: I noticed when I started Pats hadnt won this since 1961 which was a bit crazy so I wanted to put a end to it and finally this year I did. The matches leading upto the Semi-Final were easy enough and didnt cause us any trouble. We had a shot of revenge against Finn Harps, who knocked us out 2 and 3 years ago and this time we had a comfortable win and so we were off to the Aviva Stadium for the first time since I've been here. Mervue had beat Derry in the other Semi-Final which kinda made me uneasy due to our record of getting knocked out to First Division teams but it was another chance for us to get revenge for them knocking us out last year. I had expected Mervue to put up more of a fight but they didnt and we won 2-1 quite comfortably. It only took 53 years since our last Cup win, lets hope we wont have to wait so long again.

League Cup: It was great to knock Shamrock Rovers out in the Quarter Final, it was a firey game with 1 red card for each team and 7 yellows for each and it was finally settled by an own goal by Robbie Lynch who went on to get himself sent off 3 minutes later. We faced SD Galway in the Semi-Final and we won 2-1 but we really should of won by more but I wasn't complaining, another chance of silverware was on offer. We were up against our fellow title challengers Sligo Rovers, we grabbed the first goal before they equalised but it only took us 5 minutes to score the winner in an extremely close game.

UEFA Europa League: We were off to Moldova again this year to face Iscra-Stal Rîbniţa this time. We got 2 away goals in the first leg and them beat them with ease in the second leg and we were given a tricky draw against Young Boys of Switzerland. The first leg we just crumbled as they raced into a 3 goal lead but we managed to get one at the end to give us some hope. Our hope was wiped out in the second leg when our star striker, Martin Kocian got sent off but surprisingly we managed to take the lead before Wanderson got a late goal for them.

Premier Division: We didnt start off too good, 3 defeats in the first 8 matches had us playing catch up with Cork for most the season. After our third defeat against Shamrock Rovers we didnt loose again until Cork beat us 4-2 in the final third of the season, we had being winning that match 2-0 only for them to claw back. After that defeat I had doubted whether we would win the league, but thankfully for us Cork slipped up in their next 2 games and we defeated Shamrock Rovers with a miracle, heading into injury time we were 1 goal up and they got an equaliser in the 92nd minute and then I really thought we wouldnt be able to do it but Ørjan Eilertsen got the winner 2 minutes later and we went onto win all our remaining fixtures and lifting our 2nd title in a row at home against Dundalk, we won 3-0.

Senior Challenge Cup: We didn't want to wait another 53 years for another Cup victory, but this year it wasnt to be as Cork knocked us out in the Third Round.

League Cup: We made it to the Semi-Final without any disturbances. We were up against our biggest rivals this year, Cork City. Going into the 80th minute we were 1-0 down and didnt look like scoring any time soon and then Ian Daly got one in the 82nd minute and Alberto Palermo got the winner in the 86th minute, it was pretty shocking. We got put up against SD Galway in the Final and despite them going 1-0 up we won the match quite easily, putting 5 past them and lifting yet another League Cup.

UEFA Champions League: Dinamo from Croatia were our first opponents, a though draw but we made easy work of them by grabbing 4 away goals. Next up was Zestaponi of Georgia and I had this one marked as a easy tie, it wasnt and we progressed only on our 1 away goal. The next game was to get into the Champions League Group Stages, we were drawn against Levski Sofia. Despite Ian Daly getting sent off in the 4th minute of the first leg we went onto win 4-0 with Abdallah Yaisien getting an impressive hat-trick, we lost the second leg 2-0 but we were still going through to the group stages. I knew we had no chance of beating OM or SLB but I had a feeling we could pip København to the Europa League spot, which we did after a Martin Kocian hat-trick gave us a 3-2 win over them. We didnt really come close to beating the other two but a 3rd spot finish was the best we could hope for.

UEFA Europa League: We got placed against Portuguese giants Porto, and we were clear underdogs. We showed we were no pushovers in the first leg at home and we took the lead for most of the first half before they got one back and eventually won the match in the 84th minute. We took the lead again in the second leg before Porto got 2 goals to win 4-2 on aggregate, which wasnt bad at all, I had expected us to be hammered heavily.

Premier Division: The season started with us in unbeatable form and it wasn't long before we got into first position and stayed there pretty much all season, the only time we came off the top was when Cork had played 5 more matches than us but were only 2 points ahead. We were going for an unbeaten season until we lost 3 in a row, twice against Dundalk and once against Cork. I got worried that we would bottle it and crumble and Cork would over take us but we got back to winning way for the last 2 games and we ended up winning the title quite comfortably.

Senior Challenge Cup: After last years failure in this we simply had to do much better this year. We had a comfortable run to the final, we beat off mostly small teams, the biggest team we faced were Finn Harps, we had a former Saint Conor Kenna in defence, in the Semi-Final and we beat them 2-1 to face Drogheda in the final. The first half was scoreless but we scord twice in the second half to ensure we wouldnt have to have another 51 years of heartbreak before we won another.

League Cup: Dundalk, who turned out to be our bogey team this season, knocked us out in the Semi-Final, we should of won but we just couldnt put the ball over the line which was very disappointing.

UEFA Champions League: A easy draw to start with against Flora of Estonia and we had the tie wrapped up with 4 away goals in he first leg. Next up was Scottish giants Rangers, a interesting team for a Irish club to draw, I can only imagine how much the fans would of wanted us to win especially all the Irish Celtic fans. We were 1 up against them in the first leg before Ørjan Eilertsen scored an own goal which, in the end, Rangers won on as we draw 0-0 in the second leg in Ibrox.

UEFA Europa League: We were given a chance to get revenge over Young Boys of Switzrland and we did winning 6-5 on aggregate and sent us into the Group Stages. We were drawn into a tough group with AZ, Trabzonspor and Liverpool. We managed to win our first game against AZ 1-0 but that was our last win in that group and we finished last on 3 points.

Premier Division: Well we won the first 14 matches of the season in a row before a 2-2 draw with Sligo. during the second half of the season we lost 4 times which was a bit shocking but we were never in danger of losing the title and we won easily by 17 points. We broke the 100 goals for a season for the second time which is brilliant and was mostly down to Martin Kocian scoring a ridiculous amount of goals.

Senior Challenge Cup: The same as the league as we smashed past every team and straight into the final against our rivals Shamrock Rovers who, quite surprisingly, managed to beat us 1-0. Very disappointing not to win this, all we have to do now is win the Cup 24 years in a row to beat Shamrock Rovers, who have won it 27 times.

League Cup: We didnt concede a goal during this competition, and we walked into the final and we were given a tough match against Cork City but we walked right over them and won by an amazing 7 goals in a 7-0 win.

UEFA Champions League: The first two qualifying rounds against FC Inter of Finland and Zeljeznicar from Bosnia Herzegovina were handy enough and we were expected to win and we did comfortably. In the last qualifying round before the Group Stages we faced a tough task against Steaua București, we won 2-1 in the first leg away in Bucharest giving us 2 away goals but in the second leg we won 3-0 and went through to the Group Stages in style. We were drawn in a hard group, Chelsea, Lyon and Roma. I couldnt see us getting above any of them to get even a Europa League spot. In the first 3 games we were well beaten but we pulled off a shock by beating Roma 3-1 at home and the next game against Chelsea we put up a fight but lost 2-1 in the end. We finished last in the group but I didnt expect anything more.

Premier Division: We lost the second game of the season but that was just a slight bump. We were in unstoppable form after that, we won all our games except for 3 draws and 1 defeat. We won the league with 6 games remaining so it was always going to be us that won it. It was too easy this year, but I wont complain about that.

Senior Challenge Cup: The Quarter Final against Galway was the only match we didnt win by at least 5 goals, and we won that by only 3. This whole competition was too easy aswell, we beat Derry in the final 5-0 and we definitely put a end to the hoodoo between the SuperSaints and the Senior Challenge Cup.

League Cup: This was also too easy aswell, we beat all teams by 3 goals or more. We were in the final against non-league Cobh Ramblers and easily beat them 6-0. We are only 4 League Cup wins away from being record holders, so maybe in 4 years?

UEFA Champions League: We were given very handy draws in the Qualifying Rounds and we breezed through into the Group Stage where we were given a hard group, as usual. Juventus, PSG and Valencia, the only outcome I could see was us finished rock bottom and being the whipping boys. Despite good performances in our first 4 games we still lost but we weren't hammered. We beat Valencia 2-1 at home with a late goal from Lukasz Baranowski to give us a slight hope of making the Europa League spot. We faced Juventus in the last game who were in 3rd place, in a surprise we went 1-0 up in the first half and then we managed to get 2 goals before the 60th minute and we were 3-0 up and cruising into the Europa League First Knockout Round, Juve grabbed one back in the 67th minute leaving them with plenty of time to get 2 more and break our hearts but Francisco Javier Aranguren grabbed a goal in the 83rd minute and we sealed the win and got the Europa League spot. After losing our first 4 games its a bit of a miracle, all though Juve were very poor and the only win they got was against us.

UEFA Europa League: We were handed a very hard draw against AC Milan. In the First Leg we made more good memories against Italian teams as we won 4-0 and kept AC from getting an away goal. The second leg it was back to Italy with good memories of our last trip there and we were hoping to make more, Lukasz Baranowski got us an away goal in the 6th minute which ment AC needed 6 goals to win and then it got better when he got another in the 62nd minute meaning they needed 7 goals. Bjarne Pederson scored an own goal in the 77th minute and they grabbed a last minute goal to draw 2-2 on the night but we won 6-2 on aggregate. So in a huge shock we were off to the Second Knockout Round and playing against Dinamo Moscow. In the first leg we drew 2-2 giving us a though task in the next leg because they have 2 away goals. They got a early goal in the second leg which kind of killed off the game and took a bit of our spirit away and we never recovered and we were knocked out 3-2 on aggregate. It was kind of disappointing to lose to them after knocking out AC Milan but thats football I suppose.

As we stamped over every team we played we got to over 100 goals pretty quickly. Our attack was immense but our defending was equally as good, only conceding 17 goals. We only lost one game towards the end of the season which was disappointing but it was a season to be proud of overall.

Senior Challenge Cup: We reached the final quite easily, the only close one was against Sligo Rovers but we were never in danger of losing that. We faced Shamrock Rovers in the final in a sold out Aviva stadium and we showed our class beating them 3-0.

League Cup: We didnt concede a goal all tournament. We made easy work of all the teams we played, we faced Athlone Town in the final and we made easy work of them aswell, walking out 4-0 winners.

UEFA Champions League: The first draw against Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi of Finland was won quite handy, in the next round we faced an old opponent, Zeljeznicar Sarajevo from Bosnia Herzegovina and like before we beat them comfortably. The next round was another old opponent, Sheriff of Moldova, the last time we faced them we bearly scraped through on away goals. We lost 2-1 in the first leg but got an away goal, in the second leg we took a 1-0 lead and we were going through on away goals until a Bjarne Pedersen own goal in the 92nd minute put Sheriff 3-2 up on aggregate and put us into the Europa Leauge Group Stages.

UEFA Europa League: We were given a tough enough group with PSV, Young Boys and Metalist. We managed to get 2 wins and 3 draws, and despite only losing once we wernt able to finish in the top 2 so we were eliminated.

The last 4 games were a disaster, 2 losses and 2 draws and in all of them we played very very very poor, which was worrying because there were a lot of vital matches around this time.

Senior Challenge Cup: It was easy but the Semi-Final was a bit of a disaster as we drew 2-2 all with Limerick. But the replay was won easily enough, a handy 3-0 win put us into the Final against Drogheda. We were favourites and we showed it by beating them 3-0.

League Cup: Only interesting point in this cup was the final was against our local rivals Shamrock Rovers, we were losing 3-2 until the 70th minute and then we ran away with it.

UEFA Champions League: We were given handy ties in the Qualification Phases, which included a 9-1 win over FK Tirana as we glided into the Group Stages. We were handed a tough group, as usual. Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Dinamo Moscow, the only hope we had was getting over Dinamo into the Europa League spot. Our first game was a extremely unlucky game against Barcelona in the Camp Nou, Lionel Messi scored 2 penalties. The next game was a huge shock as we beat Bayern Munich, but we lost our next one against Dinamo and then we got a 2-1 over them after that with a last minute goal from Haydn Neill. Another unlucky match against Barcelona before we drew 4-4 with Bayern Munich and we climbed above Dinamo Moscow to finish 2nd in the group. We were drawn against Inter Milan, we were unlucky to lose 1-0 in the first leg.
