We needed to challenge for the title at least and qualifying for Europe would be a minimum requirement given the outlay. We started out quick with a 2-0 win over PSV to set the standard as we managed to win our first 9 games (including home wins over Ajax and Feyenoord 4-2 & 2-0 respectively). We would draw in Nijmegan 2-2 to end that run, but 6 further wins that saw us score 30 goals; notably 6-1 vs De Graafschap and 7-2 at Excelsior saw us head into a home game with ADO looking to go half the season undefeated. However somehow we failed to turn up and the team from Den Haag would leave the Gelredome with a 3-0 win. Incredibly we would bounce back from that to head into the winter break with a 6-1 romp over PSV at home. Yet for all that bad news, PSV would wind up as the story of European football when an Indian Businessman took them over and pledged a huge €135m transfer kitty to Fred Rutten for the upcoming January window. PSV would indeed spend over €20m in their attempt to gain Champions League football, but we had no concerns from them as we would win our first 4 games of 2012 to stretch our lead to over 15pts. Ajax would stop that run by scoring a late penalty to force a draw in Amsterdam, as we again went on a mini winning run to extend our lead at the top. Then things went a bit crazy, we would have a mini injury crisis and a standard trip to Heerenveen turned into a nightmare as we wound up on the wrong end of a 5-0 battering. I feared the worst, but the teams trying to chase us couldnt take advantage which meant that a home win over RKC would clinch the title, something we duly obliged with a 2-0 ending. We celebrated in style scoring at least 4 goals in each of our next 5 games (all won) before a final day trip to ADO saw us succumb once again to the Yellow and Green boys from Den Haag, as they completed the double over us with a 3-1 scoreline. KNVB Becker: A competition that I thought would bring us our only trophy, but in the end we had the luck of the draw to cruise through to a final against Jupiler League newcomers Almere City. Infact the only Ere Divisie side we faced were struggling VVV Venlo in the Semi Finals, who we dispatched 3-0. Our biggest win in the competition coming in the 4th round as we thumped AGOVV 7-0. The Final also provided little test as we survived an early scare at 1-1 to beat Almere 4-1 and clinch a dramatic double at the first attempt. We did win our opening 4 games, before managing to draw 3 of our next 4 against such luminaries as Roda JC 2-2, Heracles 1-1 and VVV 2-2... all 3 games at home. A 4-1 win in Den Haag to kill off our ADO hoodoo would be a false dawn as our defense fell apart in our next 6 games. A 4-4 home draw against NEC was followed up by a 5-4 defeat to Ajax. The rot stopped briefly as we stuffed Utrecht 5-1, but further losses to PSV and Heerenveen and a draw against Groningen left us 8pts off the pace. We did win our next 3 before the break, but Ajax still remained 8pts clear atop the Ere Divisie. We raided FC Twente for 3 players in January and this sparked our revival as we raced out of the blocks to win 5 straight and grind in closer to Ajax, with Luuk de Jong scoring 2 hat tricks and a total of 9 goals in his first 5 starts. Then Heracles stopped us briefly as we lost 2-0 to the minnows, before we raced back into contention with another 5 straight wins to setup a potential decider at home to Ajax in week 29. The situation had us 3 pts behind Ajax and with a slender goal difference advantage, a win and the title would be back in our hands to lose... however Ajax didnt give up easily and although they led twice, we managed to sneak the win thanks to a last goal from Bas Dost for the 3-2 scoreline. It wasnt over though and a 1-1 draw at home to PSV could have given Ajax the upper hand again but they managed to lose, meaning that 3 wins would seal the deal. There was work to be done and the team did it professionally as tricky ties against Heerenveen and at Groningen were won 2-0 and 4-3 respectively before we cruised past relegation threatened FC Oss 2-0 to complete a remarkable comeback and earn our 2nd Dutch Championship. Outside of us though the big story again would be PSV, not only did they spend circa €50m over the course of the season but they also went through 3 managers... Fred Rutten left just before the opening weekend to take the Dutch National job, so in came... Roberto Mancini! Yes the man managing the rich Manchester City was persuaded to try his arm in Holland, a big fee was paid to his former club but Mancini couldnt deliver and was duly despatched in February with the team struggling to challenge for European places. So with one big name gone who would be next.. well none other than his Italian compatriot Carlo Ancelotti who left the lucrative PSG job to try and reinvigorate PSV. The team from Eindhoven managed to finish 6th and claim a place in the Europa League via the playoffs... but unless more cash is chucked at the squad, the managerial merry go round could well continue. KNVB Becker: Our hopes of defending the Cup and collecting more silverware fell before Christmas as we went into the winter break on the back of a humiliating 3-1 loss to Ajax '2'. Before that we looked comfortable and on target to make the latter stages of the competition as we hammered Lienden 4-1 and FC Zwolle 5-1, yet the defeat to Ajax '2' left us unable to defend our trophy. Heerenveen would beat FC Utrecht to secure the cup. JC Schaal: The pre-season opener, not a major competition but something to open up the campaign with, but unfortunately for us Ajax looked the hungrier side and they calmly picked us off to win 2-0 and deny us our first JC Schaal in club history. European Champions League: As Dutch Champions we entered the tournament at the Group stage but as 4th seeds I wasnt expecting anything more than a chance to collect some TV money. We drew Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham... and the challenge to progress, even to come 3rd looked a tough one. Things started brightly although we fell to defeat at Inter as a 3-2 loss was only confirmed in the final minutes by Milito. Then we moved forward with confidence a 4-3 home win over Leverkusen was followed up by us cruising past Tottenham 3-1 at home to sit top of the group at the halfway stage. Our away woes got the better of us at White Hart Lane as Tottenham picked us off for a 4-1 win, before arguably the greatest night at the Gelredome saw us demolish Inter Milan 3-0 and with results falling our way, leave us needing jsut a point in Germany to progress. Alas Leverkusen again exposed our shaky defence on the road as we fell to a 4-2 reversal, yet if Tottenham and Inter drew we would still manage to qualify for the last 16 as runners up. The English side held a 2-0 lead at the break, before the footballing gods shined on us as Inter fought back to snag a draw and put us bumbling through into the last 16. The draw again proved a little unkind as we faced holders Manchester United. However the first leg would have the Gelredome rocking again as Luuk de Jong cracked home a pair in a 3-1 win to send the home fans into ecstacy. The return leg wouldnt be as fruitful for us as United showed their class to walk away with a 5-0 blitz and 6-3agg win. Yeah the first season exceeded my expectations, not just in winning the double but in the manor we did it. I think the second season bought me back down to earth, we needed alot more depth to cope with the amount of extra games that Europe bought and the Dutch teams worked us out a little as well... in the end we were lucky to collect our 2nd title, it certainly looked out of reach at one point. bennceltic Posted May 15, 2012 Author Share Posted May 15, 2012 Season 2013/14 Transfers IN: Daryl Janmaat €5.5m Heerenveen John Goosens €5m Feyenoord Jan Vertonghen €25m Ajax Gavin Robertson LOAN Manchester United Urby Emanuelson €4m AC Milan Transfers OUT: 14 (0 loans) raised €16.25m *Notable* James Rodriguez €11.75m Sevilla Piet Velthuizen €1.7m Galatasaray Royston Drenthe €2.7m Heerenveen Ere Divisie: Looking to achieve what would be an incredible 3 straight titles, we entered the campaign after yet again having been outspent by the tycoons of PSV who backed Ancelotti to the tune off over €40m including beating us to Twente starlet Leroy Fer as the team from Eindhoven meant business and looked hungry to succeed. We again spent well with the addition of Vertonghen the big talking point in Holland as we gave Ajax €25m for his services (fending off a challenge from various German sides and PSV). However arguably our best signing came late in the window as we snagged Emanuelson from AC Milan for a mere €4m as the Dutch international was homesick and was prepared to give us a chance. The season kicked off in style for us as we thumped ADO 6-1 in Den Haag before another 4 goals followed in a 4-2 home win over Heracles. We would win our opening 4 games before we hit a rut, beginning with a 4-3 loss at Ajax and followed up by a draw at Cambuur and then a 3-3 home draw with PSV. We managed to see out the year without any more defeats, yet good wins over Heerenveen and AZ (4-1 and 3-0) respectively, also saw us play out stupid draws in Excelsior 2-2 and another 3-3 home draw this time with FC Twente. With the winter break out of the way, we began 2013 with a bang. ADO again suffered at the hands of our attack going down 4-0, whilst poor old Heracles would end up on the wrong end of a 9-0 stuffing as only a late disallowed effort prevented us scoring double figures over the Almelo team. Back to back 1-1 draws would follow and that would leave us in a tight race with both Ajax and PSV. Next up came Ajax at home and we garnered revenge for the loss earlier in the season by hitting them for 4, a result that sparked a 5 game winning streak as we did just enough to stay ahead in the title race. A key game would come next in Eindhoven as a defeat to PSV put the title in their hands with 7 games remaining. Wins over Utrecht and Groningen ensured we kept the pressure on PSV before we coughed up a 2 goal lead to draw with Heerenveen and give the 'billionaires' a 3 point advantage with just 4 games left. Week 31 and we kept in touch thanks to a 5-1 romp over Excelsior before things took a turn in Week 32 as we eased to a 2-0 win over future cup opponents Volendam, PSV fell apart and would crumble 3-0 in Almaar as AZ did us a favor to put us top of the league on goal difference with just 2 games left. Our final home game would infact be against said AZ, but a Wilfried hat trick prevented them being spoilers again in a 4-0 win. We then travelled to FC Twente to finish things off, with the hosts looking to secure a Europa League playoff place. PSV held their end of the bargain on the final day by reeling off 5 in Den Haag but with our team on the verge of a memorable third straight Ere Divisie crown, we would again snare a 4-0 win and win the league by the virtue of 22 goals, thanks in no small part to our team scoring 105 league goals. KNVB Becker: After last years calamity in the Cup we were determined not to fall so easily and put together another run that could see us clinch a 2nd double in 3 years. The first 2 rounds were navigated with ease as we thumped Geldrop 8-0 before beating Almere City 4-0 (the side we had beaten in the 2012 Final). The 4th round draw was less kind as a trip to Amsterdam lay ahead and after a tough 1-1 draw we managed to overcome the hosts 4-3 in a shootout, thanks to some superb goalkeeping. The Quarter Finals also provided a tough test with a trip to FC Twente, however we needn't have worried as Rafinha hit 4 and Luuk De Jong 3 as we romped to a 7-0 win in Enschede. Into the Semi's and a tight 1-0 win over FC Utrecht setup a final with relegation threatened Volendam. We would race into a 3-0 lead by the half and looked to score a hatful, however a red card to young Chinese centre bank Yongzhe saw Volendam get a foothold in the game as they pegged us back to 2-3. Fortunately we had pace and experience on our side and as Volendam pushed for an equaliser, we would score 2 more thanks to star of the season Urby Emanuelson. A comfortable 5-2 win clinches our 2nd KNVB Becker in 3 seasons. JC Schaal: We collect our first ever JC Schaal as we defeated the Cup holders Heerenveen 2-1 in a nice little run out to start the season on a positive note. European Champions League: Another crack at the Champions League and a familar sight in the Group Stages as once again we drew Inter Milan and Leverkusen, however the other side to join us this time would be Portuguese 'cracks' Benfica. The competition started badly, we lost 3-0 at the San Siro before scrambling for a 1-1 draw at home to Benfica.. leaving me thinking that 3rd place would be a good return from such a tough phase. We then proceeded to split the games with Leverkusen, winning 2-0 at home but losing 2-1 in Germany as our 4pt haul from 4 games left us at the foot of the table. However things remained close as everyone seemed to draw with each other, leaving us in a position to sneek through if we could win our final 2 games. First up Inter Milan and although we went down early, Luuk de Jong continued to impress potential suitors with a double that secured a 2-1 win and our 2nd victory over Inter at the Gelredome in as many seasons. The last group game saw us travel to Benfica, the game looked tough on paper as we lost de Jong to injury from the weekends Ere Divisie fixture, however Bony Wilfried came in and fired home a dramatic hat-trick to secure a 3-1 win and top spot in the Group phase. Ironically neither Inter or Leverkusen could take advantage of the Benfica loss as the Portuguese side would follow us through on a measly 7pts and just 1 win. Into the knockout stages and we would draw Atletico Madrid. First up a trip to the Calderon and after going 3-1 up we would be disappointed to leave Spain with a 3-3 draw as Falcao led a dramatic comeback in the final minutes. At home the game proved to be as Atletico would take the lead, however we fought back in the 2nd half to snag a 2-1 win thanks in no small part to Willie Overtoom and his 30 yard rocket. Old foes would once again come to face us in the Quarter Finals as we stepped into unknown waters for the first time in the clubs history. English glamour side Manchester United again came out of the pot to face us, again we staged the first leg at home and for all our huff and puff we could only muster a 1-1 draw with Wilfried cancelling out a Rooney pearler. Off to Old Trafford for the 2nd leg and although we took what seemed like half of Arnhem with us, we couldn't hang on as after a goalless first half, United would race away to a 3-0 (4-1agg) win and leave us out but not disgraced in Europes premier competition. Just for a bit of cash? Thanks for checking in Paolo. de Jong is superb, its hard keeping him and Wilfried happy.... but luckily they are both injury prone, so they always get enough games! As for Rodriguez it was his minimum release fee... unfortunately he wanted it to sign originally and then would never discuss a renewal and once Sevilla came along, off he went. bennceltic Posted May 16, 2012 Author Share Posted May 16, 2012 Season 2014/15 Transfers IN: Giordano Biffi €15m AC Milan Jan Koprivec €1.2m AC Milan Paul Pogna €12m Manchester United Nobuo Yamamoto Free Transfer Hassen Mejri Free Transfer Transfers OUT: 9 (0 loans) raised €500,000 Ere Divisie: The club made various strides forward this off-season, improving the youth and training facilities whilst also adding another 12500 seats to the Gelredome, as we would have one of the bigger stadiums in the league with a 37500 capacity from November. Transfer wise we added more depth in key areas but once again were outspent by the ambitious PSV who laid out €50m to revamp their squad. Interestingly both FC Twente and Feyenoord also upped their spending spree as Dutch football enters an era of financial freedom. Our season started slowly with a goalless draw at Excelsior before we had Wilfried to thank for 3 straight 4-0 wins to follow as he hit consecutive hat tricks to announce his intentions early in the season. He'd add another pair in a 2-2 draw at Volendam before we gave PSV a thrashing in one of our better results 4-0. Oddly we followed that with back to back leage defeats on the road (De Graafschap & Heerenveen respectively), before a 3-2 home win over Ajax ignited a 4 game winning streak that included hitting NEC for 6 at the Gelredome. Another defeat followed as we tossed away a 2 goal lead to lose 4-2 at home to FC Twente as they made they move in 4th place. This only inspired us to hit a 7 game winning streak the covered the winter break, as both Fortuna Sittard and Excelsior would get hit for 5. A run of 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats left us in a precarious position come the end of February as the 3-0 defeat at the Philips Stadion to PSV hurt, and left us chasing a 2pt defecit. However we would get back on track to go undefeated for the rest of the season, averaging nearly 4 goals per game and collect 8 wins from 9 offered. The title itself would be won in week 32 as we rolled over Fortuna Sittard 4-1 thanks again to a Wilfried hat trick (8 total for the season) whilst PSV fell at home to De Graafschap. Wins away to AZ and Feyenoord again sealed a wonderful season as we clinched our 4th straight title and 3rd double in 4 years by 7pts. PSV would come in second but once again changed manager as Ancelotti failed to convince his suitors of his credentials. The big spending Eindhoven club would again poach another World Class manager and again it would ceom from Manchester City as they bought out the contract of Jose Mourinho, to bring the Portuguese genius to Dutch football. KNVB Becker: Looking for our 3rd Cup win in 4 years, we started out by jogging past amatuer's HSC'21 2-0, then things got more real as we drew PSV at home. This would be the biggest test of our defence of the cup, fortunately de Jong was on form and a hat-trick ensured we progressed 3-1. Own goals would be the order of the day in the next round as a pair of mistakes by AZ helped us past the Alkmaar outfit 3-1 and into the Quarter Finals. In this round we would meet up with Volendam once again as the team we beat in the 2014 Final would fall foul to us again this year, albeit in extra time as we made hard work of beating them 4-2aet. The Semi Final draw would throw up a local derby as we would face NEC a team fighting for their lives in the Ere Divisie. The cup proved a welcome distraction for them, yet although we went down to 10-men early, we proved to strong for the men from Nijmegan and romped into the Final 4-1. Yet again we would face a surprise finalist as Excelsior came past both Ajax and Heerenveen to make their first final, however it wouldn't be a day to remember for the minnows as we cruised to our 3rd success and retained the Cup with a resounding 6-0 thumping. JC Schaal: The financial behemoth of PSV finally collected a trophy as we lost our grip on the Schaal in a 3-1 defeat that had all the omens of a bad year ahead. European Champions League: After last seasons progress to the Quarter Finals we had hopes that we could repeat that and start to build a reputation on Europes grand stage. Alas it wasnt to be and in the end a miserable group stage saw us crash out in 4th place with just 4 points. We opened up with a 2-2 draw at home to PSG, before a 2-1 defeat in Zurich laid the foundations for our misery. Barcelona the hot favourites in our group would crush us 3-0 at the Gelredome, before inflicting my heaviest defeat as Vitesse manager 6-1 at the Nou Camp. Our hopes relied on winning in Paris, but the French had different ideas and chased us in a 5-3 thriller. With our European campaign over, we managed to salvage some pride in beating Zurich 3-2 at home, but we were quick to leave the field as there would be no European memories to come out of this campaign. As for Rodriguez it was his minimum release fee... unfortunately he wanted it to sign originally and then would never discuss a renewal and once Sevilla came along, off he went. If a high quality player insists on a minimum fee release clause again offer his agent extra money and he'll remove it. £500k-1m should be enough. Agent bribes are also pretty realistic/common Know what you mean about changing players though. Becomes a bit stale after a while if you have the same squad every year, especially at first when there aren't regens playing and therefore you know who's good/bad on FM. Out of interest is there any chance you could post the annual salaries for your game so I could compare it to mine with Feyenoord, which is in 2022/23? PSV once again spent big, another €40m went on new players as Mourinho wanted to etch his mannerism on the team, but we also had a solid pre season in the transfer market so all was to play for. We opened things up with a 7-1 roasting of Cambuur as goals became our agenda. We would add another 20 in our next 5 games including a 6-0 win over VVV, yet a 1-1 in Feyenoord and an incredible 4-5 reversal at Groningen slowed us down. The wins kept trickling in as a 7-1 win over Go Ahead saw Wilfried notch 6 goals in a game, in what proved to be an incredible run of 29 goals scored in 9 consecutive league games for the enigmatic Ivorian. However in the midst of his blitz our worst performance of the season saw us collapse 7-3 in Eindhoven as PSV took collar of the table. Next up we would let slip a 4-1 lead to draw 4-4 in Volendam as our defensive issues outshone our offensive qualities, something that Cambuur would show us up for to end 2015 as we drew 1-1 in Leeuwarden. Things tightened up in the new year as 6 straight wins kept PSV honest at the top, before we hit a glitch by drawing back to back games with Twente and Roda JC respectively. This put PSV in charge and meant that to overhaul them we would have to win every game we had remaining, including the home encounter in Week 30. We would keep on the right track as an 8-0 win in Tilburg over Willem II would see us complete a remarkable double over them after slugging them 9-1 earlier in the campaign. Next up, PSV at home. We started well and bar a late rally we never looked out of control and a 3-2 scoreline would flatter PSV as they could have taken a bigger licking. But a win is a win and with 3 games left, the title was ours to lose.... which we did (or did we!) as next up a trip to Amsterdam saw Ajax do their old nemesis a favour as we flapped to a 4-2 defeat meaning we needed a helping hand with just 2 games left. Luckily PSV had a hectic schedule, not only did they have the Cup Final to win, but also a tough Europa League Semi Final with Spartak Moscow to endure. They would stumble on their final home game 0-0 vs FC Utrecht to leave us in with a shot, as we grinded our way past Volendam 2-0. It meant that any slip up by PSV in Alkmaar on the final weeked would mean that a win by us over ADO Den Haag would see us crowned Champions. In the Gelredome infront of another sellout of 37500, the nerves would take hold of the team as a disallowed goal followed up by a missed penalty by Carreno left us wondering if the gods were really shining on PSV. However news would filter through that AZ had taken the lead and with that we gained some momentum putting a pair of goals in by the half to see us sit top of the tree with 45 minutes remaining. The 2nd half became a bit of a cake walk in the end for us as ADO were reduced to 10-men and we would go nap, as Wilfried would score his 60th league goal of the campaign (70th total) to wrap up the 5-0 win, but with all ears tuned into Alkmaar, the loudest cheers would be the confirmation of AZ's 2nd and 3rd goals as PSV collapsed... and the sweet sound of the Helicopter arriving at the Gelredome with the trophy ensured wild celebrations at the final whistle for all involved with Vitesse. KNVB Becker: Our hopes of retaining the Dutch Cup for a 3rd straight year would end embarrasingly before Christmas as we faltered in the last 16, losing away to Jupiler League side SC Veendam 2-1. Interestingly the Cup Final would see a 'derby' as finally PSV would clinch some major silverware under their billionaire ownership as the Eindhoven giants would see off Jupiler League side FC Eindhoven 1-0, as the minnows forced their illustrious city rivals into extra time to clinch the trophy. JC Schaal: Yet again we faltered in the season opener as PSV would clinch back to back JC Schaal's with a 2-1 win, leaving us looking over our shoulders in defense of our major honours. European Champions League/Europa League: As the title suggests we failed to make an impact in the Champions League yet again as a tough grouping of Bayern, Real and Lech Poznan saw us fall short in 3rd place. However we can look back on a 1-0 defeat in Poland as the key result for us, as only on the final day did Real overtake us for that 2nd place as we had beaten the Madrid 'aces' 2-0 at home and garnered a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu. However 3rd place did put us into the Europa League for the first time in my reign. We drew Ukrainian outfit Metalist in the last 32 and after a tough 1-0 home win, we put the tie to rest by trouncing them for 4 in Kharkiv to setup a last 16 meeting with German cracks VfB Stuttgart. With the away leg first we hoped to keep things respectable, yet without the injured pairing of Wilfried and Emanuelson we managed to romp home 4-0 and all but secure out Quarter Final place. We did just that the following week as a 3-1 win in the Gelredome saw us glide through 7-1 on aggregate. The Quarter Final draw was a little unkind for us as we drew the holders and biggest club left in the competition, Liverpool. (Intrigingly Ajax and PSV also made this stage of the competition). At home we played them off the park but could only come out with a 3-2 win as Gerrard belied his years to notch the crucial away goals. Over to Anfield and although we had our moments, it was never to be and a 2-0 win for the hosts saw us fall 3-4 on agg. to end another campaign in Europe. bennceltic Posted June 24, 2012 Author Share Posted June 24, 2012 Season 2016/17 Transfers IN: Darko Jevic €8.5m FC Utrecht Fahri Turhan €15m AZ Alkmaar Wesley Dijks €18m AZ Alkmaar Darko Katalinic €2.5m Split Hamid Jafari Free Transfer Gino Koning €5m PSV Eindhoven Transfers OUT: 5 out (2 loans) raised €2.4m Ere Divisie: With our status ever increasing the board again decided to expand the Gelredome by 12500 seats meaning that come November we would be playing in front of capacity crowds of 50,000. This expansion didnt dent our transfer budget as €33m went into the bank of AZ Alkmaar as we raided them for a pair of teenage prodigies, as again we broke the €40m barrier for transfer spending. Outside of Vitesse, the big news was the leaving of Mourinho after he came so close to knocking us off our pedestal, yet in the end only collecting a Dutch Cup winners medal. PSV scoured europe for their next incumbant and found him in the form of ex-Ajax man Michael Laudrop as the Dane was seen as the ideal replacement to continue the progress PSV had made. Our season started with a bang and come November we had amassed 13 straight wins to start the season and looked in a healthy position to waltz to our 6th straight title in our 125th anniversary year. However the 'old guard' of Dutch football put a quick stop to our rampage as a 2-2 draw at Feyenoord and another draw at home to Ajax sandwiched our first defeat of the campaign as we lost to PSV, giving Laudrop's team the edge at the top. The team rallied though and we ended 2016 with our best ever win, a 10-0 romping over rivals NEC in Nijmegan as Wilfried would score his first of 2 'double hat-tricks' this season in the blitz. We would continue on with this form into the new year, before a draw with Roda JC slowed things up and ensured PSV remained close. Then Wilfried's 2nd '6' of the season came at home to Willem II as our perennial hammering of the Tilburg side saw us hit 9 again, as Wilfried would score at least a hat trick in 4 straight games, totalling 17 goals. Then in week 28 we put the title into PSVs hands as a 2-1 loss to FC Twente knocked us off top spot for the first time in the season, meaning that we had it all to play for, including the Week 32 clash at home to PSV being the potential title decided. 5-0 and 8-0 wins over ADO and FC Utrecht respectively set us up nicely for the PSV game and although they pegged us back twice, a pair of late goals ensured a 4-2 win and put the title back into our hands with just 2 games remaining. First up we had to win in Amsterdam, which we managed 2-0 as Ajax had already packed their bags for their summer break, whilst the title was officially won at home in front of 50,000 fans as De Graafschap were dispatched 4-1 in fine style. PSV pushed us all the way but we recorded Dutch top flight records of 90pts and 136 goals scored (including a +113 GD). KNVB Becker: Once again our season would end up missing a piece of silverware as the KNVB Becker would allude us once more as we again fell in the 4th round, this time at home to Ajax as although we led twice, we would fall in extra time 3-2 leaving the home fans disappointed at our efforts once again. Surprisingly the Cup would end up in the hands of Jupiler League 'eventual winners' Sparta Rotterdam as they beat FC Groningen 1-0 in a drab encounter. JC Schaal: We finally got our hands back on this season opening trophy curtesy of a 5-0 hammering of PSV. The Eindhoven giants were put into turmoil just days before the game as Jose Mourinho upped sticks and went back to Inter Milan, leaving PSV managerless for the game, giving us the perfect chance to collect the Schaal for the 2nd time. European Champions League: The holy grail for us looked like it would be holy hell, as the group draw placed us in with last years foes Bayern Munich, English Oil barons Manchester City and the minnows of Maccabi Haifa. First up we welcomed City to the Gelredome and the pundits would look on scratching their heads as we demolished the English giants 4-0 to spark a wonderful campaign in Europe. We would wind up topping our group with 5 wins and a draw, as a further 3-2 win in Manchester and a 4-2 home win over Bayern confirmed our status as contenders in this years competition. The draw for the last 16 ensured we would be heading back to England as Arsenal came out of the pot. A 1-1 draw at the Emirates served up only as an appetiser for the Vitesse fans as back in Holland things went wild as we crushed the 'Gunners' 6-0 (7-1 agg). As fate would have it we would again be heading to London in the Quarter Finals to face Chelsea as the English wanted revenge for our efforts in this years competition. We looked in good shape as we led 3-0 at home at half time in the 1st leg, only to let Chelsea in via the backdoor as the game ended 3-2. Then at Stamford Bridge the Blues would take the lead, leaving us chasing the tie. Fortunately Wilfried remained on form and a pair of goals from the Ivorian marksman put us through to face Atletico Madrid, who themselve had just conquered city rivals Real. The Semi Finals would be cruel. Cruel in the sense that one team dominated for 3 of the 4 halves over the tie, have a 4 goals advantage from those 3 halves and be in a position that the other team would need at least 5 goals in 45 minutes to make the final. Well the latter would happen, infact a 6 goal blitz in the 2nd half at the Gelredome would arguably be the best ever comeback in European football history. That comeback was masterminded by none other than Vitesse's Wilfried as his 2nd half hat trick helped Vitesse to an improbable 6-1 win in the 2nd leg of the semi final, after losing the 1st leg 3-0 and being 1 down at home in the 2nd leg at the break... the Cup (it was said) had our name on it! Yet it wasnt over, there was a Final to be played. Scotland's Murrayfield would host the 2017 Champions League Final as we faced another Spanish outfit in Valencia. The Final would prove to be a one-sided affair as Vitesse wouldn't let this moment pass them by, with Wilfried scoring another hat-trick to take his season tally to 79 as Vitesse condemned Valencia to a 4-0 defeat and seal a remarkable victory for the boys from Arnhem.
